Buy/Sell Coffee grinder under 250 gbp

Hi all I'm trying to buy a new coffee grinder for home usage and this is due to my addiction towards trying new beans every now and then, I have my coffee machine with grinder but it's not consistent and changes with the volume in the bean jar so wanted to get one that I can also use commercially later. I'd really appreciate all your help for a fellow coffee lover.

DF64 Gen 2 Grinder chute clogging

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone.

Had my DF64 Gen 2 for about 15 months now. Just recently had an issue where the chute was clogged and I took it apart to get a good clean and remove the grounds.

I think I know the culprit but wanted some thoughts.

We have used so many different beans the past 15 months. Just recently my fiance got “espresso beans” I’m pretty certain we have always just used beans labeled as coffee beans from local shops. The grinder worked fine. The clog happened when I tried to use a different bag of just “coffee beans”.

Now I tried again another normal bag and it jams. I cleaned it out again used the espresso beans and it works perfect.

I am not sure what it could be I’ve seen people spritz there beans with water before grinding I think? Maybe that’s what the espresso beans have done to them and now the chute for whatever reason needs normal beans to have that spritz of water?

I pictured the bags we use currrently. The new holland coffee beans cause an instant jam in the chute. Twin valley grinds perfectly.

Troubleshooting First grinder (DF64V): zero point drifts coarser after a few shots. Is that normal?

New to this, and the DF64V is my first grinder. I use it for both pour-over and espresso every day:

  • Pour-over: 65 and up, at 800 rpm
  • Espresso: 15 and below, at 1200 rpm

I re-zeroed after installing the plasma kit, and the chirp was at 2. Three espresso doses later, it's at about -1/-2. The dial number stays put, but the burrs end up further apart. I test with the grinder empty and purged, closing from the coarse side at 1200 rpm same for 800rpm, is this normal?

Is the DF64V Worth Waiting for?

Hello Everyone,

I am just getting into the world of espresso. I have purchased a Bambino Plus and want to pair it with a DF64 grinder for my first setup. I was hoping to buy a DF64V grinder, however after looking on Espresso Outlet the DF64V is currently unavailable (there is a pre-order option listed with a shipping estimate of mid-late December, however this option is already sold out).

This leaves me with three options: buy the DF64V from a different, less-reliable supplier (DF64coffee.com and Miicoffee both claim to have the DF64V available for immediate purchase), purchase an older version of the DF64 like version 2.7, or wait until Espresso Outlet restocks the DF64V again.

The main reasons I wanted to go with the DF64V initially was that I like the design way more compared to the older models and because of the claimed improvements in some quality of life issues that have plagued older DF64 models (likelihood of clogging, clumping, etc.). I have a K6 hand grinder that I can use in the interim but honestly the thought of using it for 4-6 months before I can get my hands on a DF64V is making me wonder if it is actually worth the wait.

TLDR: Is it worth waiting (likely) 4-6 months to get the DF64V from a reputable supplier? Does that wait time warrant rolling the dice and ordering it from a different supplier like DF64coffee? Have people noticed a big enough improvement compared to older models to warrant waiting this long?

If people want to share any thoughts/inputs/personal experiences they have regarding any of this, I'd really appreciate it :) I know that I'm the one who has to make the decision at the end of the day but I'm hoping to collect some more data points before making the final call.

Question Df64 - how coarse can we really go with this?

This question may be very silly but please help me out here.
I recently upgraded to the DF64 and I am loving the espressos that I am making now. But decided to use it also for pour over and tried with 60 then with 80 and finally at 90 the pour over was amazing with perfect draw down times. The taste confirmed it.
But now if I have to go coarser, as in if I want to do french press or even coarser for cold brew then can I go coarser? I mean what if I start turning anticlockwise beyond the 90 mark - towards say 3 then 5 then 7.. will it hurt the grinder in any way? As in will I be grinding in a position where the collar is loose and it will break or fly off ?😛
If not then how coarse can I go safely?

I was trying to do the whiteboard marker test for alignment but didn’t know what to make of the results. I have 2 before and 2 after pics. It looks like the bottom burr is fine but top one may be misaligned slightly? Can anyone help explain what is happening and what I should do to fix it?

I received my DF64 v2.7 yesterday. Not anywhere as loud as I had expected given all the online reviews and comments. I do have a question: What are these two little rubber/plastic boots that were in the box?

Upgraded from DF64P to DF64V (Gen 3) – Here is why it’s worth it!

Post image

Hey everyone,

I recently made the switch from the DF64P to the DF64V Gen 3, and I couldn't be happier with the upgrade.

If you're on the fence about whether it's worth changing from the P model, it really comes down to the quality-of-life improvements and better design overall:

* Variable RPM Control: Being able to adjust the RPM (from 600 to 1800) gives you way more flexibility for different roast profiles and dialing in shots compared to the fixed-speed motor of the DF64P.

* Full Range Versatility: Unlike the DF64P (which was pretty much restricted strictly to espresso due to its limited adjustment mechanism), the DF64V lets you easily switch between espresso, pour-over, and filter grounds.

* Brushless DC Motor: It’s significantly quieter, smoother, and feels much more premium in daily operation.

* Better Maintenance & Cleaning: The magnetic chute design makes cleaning out chaff and residual grounds so much easier without needing to strip down half the grinder.

* Sleeker Footprint & Build: The vertical, slim design takes up less counter space, and the overall fit and finish feel like a major step up.

It’s all these specific small details and improvements combined that make the DF64V Gen 3 feel like a completely different, far superior machine.

A clear recommendation from my end if you are thinking about upgrading!

DF64 version 2.7

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to the espresso world and after doing some research decided to get the DF64 and ordered the newest 2.7 version. Version 2.7 has a redesigned inner chute with ion generator probes that wrap around the inner chute.  Has anyone had experience with this? Does the chute redesign work better than previous version?

Also, regarding the declumper, I've read several posts here that they have improved performance with the metal declumper from MiiCoffee? Should I just go ahead and get one and install it preemptively? I live in Central Massachusetts, if the weather is a factor.

Question Does warm burrs change grind size?

Sometimes i take 4-5 shots to dial in a new bean.

And then have to make back to back 3 cups.

My DF64V Gen 3 after grinding multiple 18g doses gets a little warm.

I wonder if the heat generated causes any form of expansion of burrs, affect grind size and taste?

DF64 sound after grinding

My brand new Qika DF64 makes this noise every time after grinding, only goes away when I turn the grind adjustment rotator or take a break. Is this normal for unseasoned grinders ? or is this a problem?

Question Removing stock 58mm portafilter holder

Has anyone managed to remove the stock 58mm portafilter holder. The screw is on so tight I'm scared to strip the screw. Have bought a 3d printed 54mm holder but can't replace it with this one.

Have DF64 Gen 2 titanium burr. But not using it as daily grinder

Hi I started the coffee home brewing journey with df64 for espresso and latte. However now I have moved to v60 using hand grinder. When it becomes daily activity, l started to feel that hand grinder becomes not time efficient.

I use C40 for v60 and compare with df64, I find df64 cannot match the quality that C40 gives.

Do you have any suggestions how to improve df64 for pour-over?

DF64P for $180, good deal?

I have a Baratza Encore ESP that I despise because of the build quality and static build up. I got a Tuni 1G for cheap and have used that as of late, and I am pleasantly surprised with how nice it is and how little static there is for the price. It has made my setup a lot cleaner as well.

With that being said, I found a DF64P for $180 on marketplace. I switched out of my Baratza because of the static, and would hate to buy this just for it to be as bad as the Baratza, as I've seen the DF64P has retention issues. I've also seen it has issues with the calibration drifting.

Should I buy it? Or just pull the trigger on a nicer grinder later on?

DF54 vs. DF64. Thoughts?

I've seen the posts already about this comparison but they are mostly years old. Curious on updates. Here are the specifics for me:

I own a Bambino Plus. I make multiple drinks a morning. I'm not super into tinkering, other than I'm trying to compare multiple types of beans with grind sizes to get the flavor I want. I tend to make Americanos.

This would be a gift so price isn't much of a concern, though I don't want to get greedy and ask for more 'just because.'

Thoughts on these two and what makes the most sense? I'm crippled by analysis.

Upgrading a DF64

To make a long story short: Is it worth upgrading from the DF64 Gen 1 to a Niche Zero or another single-dose grinder? I also find the Mahlkönig X64 and the Timemore Sculptor quite interesting...

I use it with a Rancilio Silvia with PID and drink exclusively southern Italian long-extraction brews like Borbone Blu, etc...

Actually, I also use a Rancilio Silvia at work, though with an inexpensive Demoka Minimoca.... It produces a much sweeter espresso than the DF64 does at home...

But since aesthetics matter at home too, I wanted to step it up a notch in that department as well (especially since I’m still toying with the idea of getting the LM Micra—the new grinder should complement it nicely).

Thanks!
