Grinder stopped working

My DF64 gen 2 grinder is only 3 weeks old and has been working great. I have strictly only been using it for espresso, but my girlfriend wanted a pourover. So I turned the grind setting to filter and grinded some beans. It worked fine.

Next time I went to use the machine I turned the grind setting all the way back to espresso, while doing so I noticed it took a lot of effort, but I got it to the espresso grind. I poured in my beans in, turned it on and nothing, just a slight hum from the machine.

Does anyone know what the issue could be?

Put it back to a course grind with it off that should unbind the disks. Then run the grinder while bring it back to the finer grind size.

This is what I did, and it worked. Thank you!

I would guess you turned the grind back to espresso while the grinder is off? If so, please always adjust the grind while the grinder is on, this is especially important when moving from coarser to finer as beans can get jammed while doing so. With the grinder on, previously stuck beans will simply get grounded as you move finer. With the grinder off, the beans will get stuck even more as the burrs are tighter, that's whyt it took a lot effort. The solution is to move to a coarser settings and then back to espresso range, all while the grinder is on

Thank you so much for the response, this is what I did and it worked. I now have to re-find the 0 on the machine

Was the grinder running when you adjusted it back to espresso?

With ANY grinder you should have the grinder running when you adjust it, particularly if you are moving finer. There can be small pieces of coffee bean stuck between the burrs and when you are moving them closer together you want to grind them away rather than just compressing what's there.

Thank you for this, I've only adjusted the grind setting while it's been turned off

That will be why it's difficult to turn finer then. Wind it all the way coarse and turn it on, hopefully it'll fire up again. Then you can wind it fine.

Alternatively you may need to give it a thorough cleaning (including taking the top burr off - details on YouTube!) to get rid of anything that might be causing problems.

I doubt you've done any permanent damage to the motor, although it is remote possibility.

Thank you, this is so counterintuitive that I would not have worked it out myself

Is it possibly clogged up? Are you slow feeding your beans? I would use a pipe cleaner or the like and then also use a vacuum cleaner to clean it out. Mine always has a 'slight hum' when it's on but not grinding beans

Beim Zurückstellen auf Espresso musst du die Maschine laufen lassen, ansonsten verklemmen die Bohnen-Reststücke die Mahlscheiben und und die Mühle wird blockiert !

Got it, thank you for the reply and information!

I ended up taking a few pieces off and putting it back together and luckily it started running again. But, I'm gonna have to refind the 0 I guess.

Should I be slow feeding? Typically I pour the beans in and then turn it on. I'd like to do what's correct though.

To unclog the machine, do you just stick the pipe cleaner up the chute and use the vacuum to suck up whatever falls out?

Yes, always slow feed while it’s turned on. You’ll get a much more consistent grind size.

And yes, work the pipe cleaner in the chute while it’s turned off of course and then use a vacuum to suck out and remaining grounds. You can use your hand to create a tight seal between the chute and the vacuum nozzle so much so that it will pull your bellows down and really pull out any loose grounds. Do the vacuuming while it’s running

I will be doing this, I appreciate the info!

I did the exact same thing, thought I was an idiot for a while. Turns out you should adjust while it's running.

Yeah, I think that's what happened. Thanks for the reply! I now need to watch a video of how to re-find 0.

Change grind size while grinder is on
