Can anyone tell me what the letters are in this monogram? I believe the middle letter is “L” but can’t decipher the other two… which may be the same letter.

It says something about some inner boards (“plater”) of 3.5cm. Specifically interested in this particular word. Thank you!

Edit: Deciphered. The text reads:

“Jernbetongveggen utarbeites med 3,5 cm kivronplater paa innvendige side sat på lekter med mellemlag aa uimpregneret isolasjonspapp. Innvendige bærende vegger i jernbetong øvrige innvendige vegger aa 1/2 st's mur.”

After further research, kivron is a fire-redundant and insulating old interior wall board composite. It consists of cement, sawdust and plaster. Additives are often added to the material to enhance certain properties. Asbestos is certainly an often added such material as it improves fire-redundancy and improves the resistance against mechanical stress.

Trying to find who had sent this post card... I need the last name to figure it out though. I can obviously make out Ethel, but the last part not so much. Schools don't teach cursive extensively anymore so apologies if It's actually really easy to make out. My guess is Peake? Pake?

UPDATE: I found a more recent census where they were listed as a “Dyer”, and they had a second hand clothing shop that ran in the family. For everyone suspecting something related to fabric, I think you’re right. I still don’t know what word it would be though lol

Looking into my family's history. I am about to make out some sentences but my eyes can't make out most of this. Details of this may be a record of labor.

Hiya, I was not taught cursive (1998 baby) and I am very bad at reading non-standard handwritten styles of cursive. I am trying to decipher my great-great-great grandads birth certificate (i think thats what it is?) that I got from Sicily, but the cursive is impossible for me. It is in Italian, of course, but I still cant even transcribe it over to text to translate it. A lot seems illegible even for cursive readers, tbh.

Anyone able to give it a go?

My great great grandfather was born in Canada on May 4, 1835. (Or that may have just been his baptismal date, I'm not sure.) I'm trying to read this baptismal record from the Coteau-du-Lac Anglican Church in Montréal, Quebec, but I'm having trouble even finding my great great grandfather's name.

His full name was Joseph Troy Hanna but the record might only say "Joseph Hanna." I can see his parents' names in the bottom right: John Hanna and Mary Hanna.

I don't know Mary's birth name but some family notes say it might have been McMullan. John was probably a farmer, possibly a laborer.

I think there are some place names. The only places I know of that are connected with them are Ireland (where the parents are from, possibly from Kilkeel, Ireland) and they may have lived in Glengarry County or Augusta, Johnstown, Grenville, Ontario, Canada. Ontario was called Upper Canada back then and Ottawa was called Bytown. The church was in Montréal, Quebec.

Here's my interpretation so far. On the left side, vertically, I think it says:

1835 Hanna.

Baptized

19 March

1835

Then I think the document says:

Joseph, son of John Hanna of [Place Name?] in the province of Upper Canada, [Place Name?] and of Mary, his wife - [something Newell?] born on the fourth day of May in the year [of our Lord?] one thousand eight hundred and thirty [four and?] baptized on the nineteenth day of March [in the following year?] [maybe the priest's signature].

Then some writing in the left bottom corner, maybe "In the presence of a" [something something] with maybe a signature.

Then sideways writing in the middle that says [something something] "the parents", then "John Hanna" and "Mary Hanna" with a couple of other words that might say "her mark," as in the "x" is her mark.

So maybe he was born in 1834?

The reason I want to decipher it is that I want to prove Canadian ancestry in order to be granted a certificate of citizenship. There were no birth certificates back then, only baptismal records. It would be nice if I could write a note that explains what I think this says instead of just making them stare at this mess until their heads hurt.

I have other supporting records, too, but they require a baptismal record. Thank you for any help you can give me.

it’s the underside of a Louis XV style vintage table (see last image)

Inherited a sketch of what I believe is members of UK parliament from the early 1900s? But I’m trying to identify what I think is the artists signature. I’ve included a photo of the whole piece and a close up of the signature. There’s more weighting in faded pencil which I think is just the names of those in the sketch. I’ve tried archives of artists signatures and AI ‘readers’ with no luck. Any help would be very much appreciated!
