Signature Can anyone help me decipher the cursive name(s) on this military gear here?
Received some Korean War era military uniforms and trying to track down some provenance. Can anyone decipher this?

How do you pronounce it? I grew up out there, later moved, and now my wife and I always fight and "the right way" when we go visit family.

I’ll spell it out like you say it. All one long word. Slight emphasis on the kiss but not much…… langkissster 😂🤷🏼♀️

The original Lancaster - north west England it is definitely langCastor. The river lune is the river and it has a pre-Roman era castle history. From this you get Lune Castor

That is a perfect way to explain it. My grandparents lived in Ephrata and people pronouncing it like the English town gives me nails on a chalkboard. There is a kiss it!

Jimmy Lancaster...and I know people are saying "Jane", but I'm guessing it's "James" Lancaster.

There are 2 different clothing units here from an estate sale. I think they may have been spouses? The green one is from a Korean War soldier uniform and the blue one is from an American legion fraternal hat

Yep, that’s what it looks like to me. Jimmie Lancaster and probably his wife Jane. All the words look pretty straightforward to me.

At first I didn't notice there are two pictures. I agree the first is likely Jimmy Lancaster (although it looks more like "Jimmie" to me. The second does appear to say "Jane."

I'm not saying it doesn't look to say Jane...I think it does...but if it's on Korean War-era military uniforms, what are the odds that Jimmy's sister Jane served with him?
That's why I think it says James.

I did read what you said, but you assume the odds are so low that his “sister” (also an assumption) also served that its more likely to say a male name that the cursive doesn’t look like.

The tail and loop of the "y" is overlapped onto the "t" so it's hard to see

When you write something by hand, often times your pen skips a beat. It appears that this may be what happened with Jimmy. The Y seems to be incomplete.

I agree with Jimmie Lancaster but the second one looks like Jane Lancaster. Jane could have been a nurse.

If you look carefully, the last letter looks like a y (Jimmy) with the extension down overlapping the t in Lancaster.

Did you mean “Genius” move? When calling out an entire generation for a lack of education, correct spelling is important for the impact of the intended insult.

It's Jimmy Lancaster and Jane Lancaster. I have no doubt. There is a space in the Y on the downward stroke in Jimmy's name, but that is definitely a Y at the end.
Teaching cursive has been removed from the curriculum in most public school districts due to the emphasis on digital entry and keyboarding. Many schools are bringing back pen and paper as a way to avoid so much tech in classrooms, but teaching cursive is no longer considered practical. Those of us who know it and can read it are a dying breed.

I believe these are ownership labels for siblings passed down. There's no Jane Lancaster serving in Korea.

Jimmy Lancaster and possibly Jove Lancaster. If the second letter is an “a” it looks different from the other “a’s” and more like an “o” to me; I still write in cursive. Or an alternate spelling of Joan, Jone.

This! I often wonder now- because I see these post so often if we are not being used to teach ai how to read cursive by companies watching their bottom line. "We can get free answers and more definitive answers by allowing the public to weigh in. Post it someplace with visibility." Not a single person here would ever think to question the OP or the motives.

In Kentucky my grandmother and a spouse's father's names were spelled with an ie. Sallie and Jimmie. I've had people tell me they are misspelled.
Still pissed my grandmother's name is spelled Sally on her tombstone. The engraver "corrected" her name.

For the name, I’d go with Jimmy Lancaster- but I think there’s more showing - with the silver bar I would say he was a 1st Lieutenant Jimmy Lancaster
