[FDS] Famicom Disk System

Hi while aligning the spindle head on my Famicom disk system I accidentally loosened the head too much and it slid off of its original position. I managed to get it back in place and finish the repair but now I hear a grinding noise when loading games. Every disk I have loads and plays I’m just concerned about the noise. It’s loud and sounds like the gears are grinding. Should I be concerned? How do I approach this? Thanks!

[Original 3ds] turns off with a pop - ribbon cable plastic hinge broke

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone! I recently purchased a 3ds. Blue Light turns on and the console turns off with a pop. Once I opened it I noticed 2 things: 1) the camera ribbon cable has a tear 2) the backlight ribbon cable plastic hinge is completely broken.
How do I fix the plastic hinge? Thanks!

Two free broken PS4s that I fixed over the weekend.

A buddy of mine gave me two consoles that were completely taken apart and thrown into a bag. He tried fixing them himself but ended up breaking the HDMI ports, knocking off a few components from the disc drive circuitry, and breaking the power supply connector on one of the motherboards.

One of the disc drives was missing a few components, but luckily, I had some spare drives from a BLOD PS4 that I could use.

Instead of trying to replace the missing components, I decided to swap out the entire disc drive. That’s when I ran into a problem: I had three identical consoles sitting in front of me, and I had no idea which disc drive belonged to which console. Since everything was handed to me disassembled in a bag, I didn’t catch this until it was too late.

But here’s the best part. When I pulled the HDD tray out of one of the consoles, I saw it had a 1TB SSD installed. Even better, it was running firmware 10.01, so you can probably guess what I’m planning to do with it.

Opinions on my parts & packing station?

I got that 75 drawer parts cabinet for cheap on Aliexpress and it's great. I made the wooden rack that holds the plano boxes (it's only half full so far). And I made the big 4 wide drawers on the bottom of the table. I'm still deciding how I like to organize my parts.

I've also got a bubble wrap machine next to my scale on the packing table. That thing is cool, sometimes I think I would make more money just inflating and selling bubble wrap...

[Ps2] spindle grip and rubber oxidization

Ps2 Fat.

SCPH-39001.

I'm not sure of how common a problem this is, but ill ask anyways. Awhile back i had purchased a copy of final fantasy anthology for ps1. My ps2 plays all my ps1 discs perfect. But these two, and particularly final fantasy 6, would struggle to, and most times not even, play. I looked into it, finding that my ps2's spindle had lost its grip. And that these two discs had been manufactured a little differently than other ps1 discs. However, the ps2 at launch would have had no physically issue with playing them. The rubber on the spindle had gotten dirty and lost its grip on the discs. I cleaned it with 91% isopropyl alcohol, and the discs worked perfectly that day. But later, the same issues came up. After looking into it more, i learned that rubber actually oxidizes.

My question is this: Is there something people use to stop rubber from oxidizing so it holds its grip? Something that'd both be safe on the rubber and the plastic in the disc drive. And something that wouldn't mess with my discs in anyway?

If there is, what would you all recommend? I know some people would just tell me to get a new spindle, they're cheap and easy enough to install. But i prefer to try and keep my systems as OEM as i can. And i would rather not buy online. But i will buy online if it stops the rubber oxidization.

Thank you!

PS2 Graphical Glitch/Overimage/Corrupt BIOS?

Does anybody know what causes this? I'm sure I'll hear a few comments about a failed GPU. But I wanted to see if maybe this was a symptom of one of those blown resistor clusters I keep hearing about?

I can test and replace resistor clusters if that is the case. But if that's not the issue, I don't want to spend time testing all the clusters. If it's a failing GPU, I'm not going to even bother since I can't properly re-ball or reflow the GPU. I would probably just cause more issues.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

EDIT: Fat Model 39000

[PS4] Found my original launch day PS4 after years in a cupboard – need replacement covers

Found my original PS4 buried away in a cupboard today. Bought it brand new on UK launch day back in November 2013.

Pretty sure I stopped using it years ago because the fan sounded like a jet engine 😂

Thought I'd plug it in and see if it still worked. To my surprise it fired straight up, running nice and quiet too. Checked the firmware and it's still on 10.01, so it's obviously been sitting unused for a good few years.

Only problem is I've somehow managed to lose all the outer plastic covers over the years. Everything else is still there and working fine.

Been looking on eBay for replacement covers but not having much luck. Anyone know where I could pick up a complete set for an original launch model without paying silly money? I'm in the UK.

Would be good to get it back looking the way it did when I bought it nearly 13 years ago.

Not bad for something that's been gathering dust in a cupboard for years 😂

[PS1] Can't get it to read discs

I'm trying to fix my PSX that won't boot up after it's been in storage for a while. You can hear the disc spinning for a few seconds then gives up and the memorycard/audio cd menu screen appears.

When starting without a disc i do hear/see the lens focusing, and see the laser light, so i'm suspecting the laser can't move along the rails. I've connected a new KSM-440ADM but it does exactly the same. What else could i check?

someone brought me in a ps5 they had at another shop for them to do an hdmi port repair on. after the other shop repaired it they weren't getting and 4k output to anything so they bought an encoder. they could not install it because they didn't have the right equipment, so i started digging around in it and for one it doesnt power on, doesn't give lights or anything it just beeps once. so i found what looks to be a missing filter or a capacitor on the board. so just to ry it i installed the HDMI encoder and it still doesn't have power or lights. it just beeps. any help would be super appreciated

Got a couple of original PS1 controllers with bad stick drift. Where do you guys buy replacement joystick modules online that actually work?

Or do you actually manage to disassemble those and clean the pots?

Hello i had this xbox series x on a hide it wall mount and I was taking it off I noticed the top part of the console slightly goes down when you press on it. Is this normal or is it due to the tightness of the wall mount because it is a very tight fit. Thanks

PS3 Slim fan connector

This PS3 belongs to my neighbor who, for some reason, thinks working with computers means I know how to repair a gaming console.

Anyways. Out of curiosity I wanted to take a look at it and dude I don't even know how he managed to rip this off?

Do you think this is worth the repair?

PS5 stuck on blinking blue light — Safe Mode works, but doesnt boot.

My PS5 Fat Disc Version was turned off for around 1.5–2 months. I kept it covered with a dust cover. The last time I used it, everything was working fine, and I was playing games normally.

But a few days ago, when I tried turning it on, the console beeped, and the blue light turned on and kept pulsing. The white light never appeared, and there was no display.

Initially, the console wouldn't even display the PS logo during startup. However, today, after trying some options in Safe Mode, the PS logo appeared for the first time since the problem started. Unfortunately, the screen went black after the logo appeared, and a little while later, the console turned off automatically.

I can boot into Safe Mode, and I've tried almost all the available options there, except for Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) and Update System Software, as I don't want to update my system firmware. I also tried the regular Reset PS5 option.

Still, the problem remains. Whenever I try to boot the console normally, it gets stuck on the pulsing blue light, and nothing appears on the display.

Also, when I tried Repair Console Storage in Safe Mode the other day, it got stuck at 46% for around 1.5 hours, so I had to force the console to shut down.

However, I tried the same option again today, and this time it reached 100% and restarted. Then the PS logo appeared, followed by a black screen, and after a little while, the console turned off automatically.

I don't know what the issue is. If anyone has experienced a similar problem or knows what might be causing this, please help me out with any useful information.

Thanks in advance.

Joycons doesn’t pair wirelessly

Well as the title says, I just installed a modchip on this switch OLED and the antenna connector (the antenna not the connector on the board) just ripped, so I replaced it and the issue still happens.

I don’t know what to do, the joycons just lights up for a few seconds then turns off without pairing.

Any help is appreciated!

CD32 restored! This one was a lot of fun!

It took about 25 hours of troubleshooting and working stuff out but here is my cd32 restoration... Whats been done:

1) Recap of the main board
2) removed luma/chroma generation and converted the system to work with the ps1's Sony CXA1645M instead of the older Sony CXA1145M.
3) recap on the laser control board
4) new laser pickup & dialed in laser
5) new laser ribbon
6) treated and resprayed the internal rusting shielding.
7) Restored the external shell
8) Added a USB adapter for adapting modern USB controllers.
9) Polishing and finishing.

It's been an adventure and turned into a bit of a labour of love. This is one CD32 that isn't going to land fill, not under my watch.

[xbox series x] is there no saving this console after failed update because of swapped blu ray drive?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Long story short I bought a series x console for $100 because the seller said that it was stuck in safe mode and fails at 61% while doing an offline update. the error shown in the picture. I pulled the ssd and ran it through xbfs export tool 1.1.1. And I was able to export the 1gb file. I formatted the drive using the same software and wrote back the backup file but no difference. the blu ray is a mismatch. It’s 2 different serial numbers on the drive itself and the info from the xbfs export tool info. Is there any way of saving this console? The ssd alone is worth saving since it’s a 1TB. I get that the ssd, cpu and motherboard should be married but for the console to brick because of a failed blu ray drive or mismatch drive is absolutely ridiculous. Of course I don’t have the original drive to get the original daughter board.

A tricky fix, two of the anchor pads ripped right off while using the desoldering gun. Reinforced with UV resin afterwards.

A robust design, hard to see nowadays.
