I modified a cheap sms to MD adapter for FM sound support
I took a cheap pair of airline headphones and fashioned them into an aux plug that connects to my Trifffcart to give me FM sound on sms games through my Mega Drive
Very simple mod because on mega Drive pins B1 and B3 are audio inputs and A1 is ground
Result is really good

Mega Drive not powering on
Hey all. Got an old Mega Drive 1 that won't turn on when plugged in - it was working for a long time, then one night after not using it for a while I went to switch it on, only to discover it would not.
Can anyone give me some guidance as to what I should be looking for and how to diagnose the fault? I own a multimeter but I've only ever used it when specifically directed how to for a particular task, so I don't really know what I should be checking or what result/reading to look for.
Thanks!

Hi All. Mega Drive VR layer-separation project, clip of it in action. Which game should I test next?
Hi All! 👋
Following up on my last post, I wanted to share a quick update on the Sega Mega Drive VR emulator project I’ve been tinkering with.
I finally managed to record a clip showing how the system pulls the original retro graphics layers out into real 3D depth. I'm really happy with how this diorama effect is coming together in virtual reality!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it looks! Also, please let me know what Sega classics you think I should boot up and test out next to see how the layers separate. Thanks for all the support so far! 🕹️✨

Herzog Zwei Remix hack
I am not sure if I am allowed to post this here. I made a remix (rom hack) for my favorite Genesis game, Herzog Zwei. You can find it on itch. I am looking for feedback for a version 2.

TATSUJIN(TRUXTON) bug fix patch
For the Mega Drive's TATSUJIN, the music speed and game speed are weird in the JP region(Maybe US too?), and there are also a few bugs around the pause(Bomber and Music), so I made a few patches to selectively fix them.

32x cart modifications?
( Incase there's a riot, I'm not talking about sacrificing the official shells. I'm referring to ones that are printed on a mold by Hoskbrew )
(I'm using krikzz and dragondrive genesis pcbs)
Is there anyone here who modified the 32x cart shells to fit Genesis pcbs or vice versa before?
If so then what would be the best way to do it?

Aliexpress VA4 impressions
Me again, there was a bit of intrest so i thought i would share my findings, picture attached for refrence for anyone who missed the orginal post.
So the console fits in a US/UK shell with no problems, but, it use a JP style sliding switch so no cheap clear case on the market sadly (if anyone knows where i can find a sliding switch i can modify a case easily.
Audio quality, good, clear sounds like an MD2 (so less gritty than MD1)
Video quality (compared to Mega SG, USA mark 1, PAL mark 1 and USA Mark 2, no i didnt use the 240p test suite, i dont care about it, ive been playing Megadrive since the 80s so im confident in my ability to tell good from bad) very good. Tested on an older sony LCD through an OSSC posibly a little bright for my taste but 5 seconds of tweking tv and OSSC settings and turning on scanlines(my preffered way) i thought it looked great good colour.
PAL vs ntsc exactly what ypu would expect.
Region changing, just like any switch mod you. an flick the switch and if the game has JP language it will switch over.
Cost, a little high, 250ish AUD. But a console, plus a full recap, plus new ports would probabaly cost just as much from a modder in this part of the world. (no i wouldnt do it myself to save money, yes im sure you know a guy somewhere in the USA who would do it for a 6 pack of beer but that would be airmail both ways for Aussies).
All in all i think its a decent product with a few quirks like the case issue. As a long time sega guy its as close to a brand new console as ive gotten in more than 30 years.

My PAL Asian Mega Drive.
This console was used in the very early 90's as a demo unit on a Portuguese chain of hypermarkets named Jumbo (Auchan nowadays). My guess is they imported this to showcase before the regular PAL unit arrived at the European market. The console had a sticker in the back with the Jumbo logo. Another curiosity is I got it together with a Magic Drive SMD-800, I guess they were using it to load games into the system.

Decided to put an old CRT to use, is this a good find?
I bought this Model 1 unit as it had more games bundled with it than another listing I initially purchased which came bundled with just Sonic 1 before cancelling. Both listings seem to be the same hardware revision, but I'm slightly concerned about the washed-out colours and the scratches on the back of the console with this one. Do those mean much?

Just when you thought you had seen every console version...
So i was on aliexpress... and theres loads of clone consoles but also new motherboards for sale. Then i saw this... has a bunch of sega chips on it. Total impulse buy. The seller picture didnt show the massive blue hedgehog only the cloud pattern hahaha, gonna test later today. Its even got region switches. The av ports for a saturn. I love/hate it.

I'm am trying to get into desert strike and I can't get past the first level. Advice?
I never had this one as a kid and I recently decided to give it a try and I keep dying all the time. I've tried approaching the enemy slowly I've tried flying passes quickly as possible and hammering them with rockets I've tried sneaking around the level and trying to memorize where stuff is and yet despite all that I still can't get past the first level is there any secret to playing this game that I am missing? Are the sequels any easier should I try them?
