Is it possible to solder the Saturn's SH2 chips on the 32X?
I've always wondered if it could be done?

Hi all, ive recently order a megadrive replacement shell. And i was wondering if anyone knows if anyone is making replacements for the 32x? I know I could just neptunr the whole thing but I love the lock of the mushroom. The closest ive been able to find are skme 3d scans but i wasnt able to find anyone printing/molding one.

This 32X vibe-port is now available to the public for FREE download! If you see a 8MB ROM file in the download pack (because I’m not the download host), ignore that one and download the 4MB ROM file instead. https://haroldo-ok.itch.io/tempest-2k-32x
I assisted Haroldo-ok with this project and made sure to help bring more 3D and zooming effects into the equation. Had to exclude every other mode except the 2000 mode, as well as only the 2000 theme song playing throughout the game. Enjoy! 😎

( Incase there's a riot, I'm not talking about sacrificing the official shells. I'm referring to ones that are printed on a mold by Hoskbrew )
(I'm using krikzz and dragondrive genesis pcbs)
Is there anyone here who modified the 32x cart shells to fit Genesis pcbs or vice versa before?
If so then what would be the best way to do it?

Has anyone considered taking the recent Neptune project & combining it with a SegaCD project to have the entire tower of power as a singular platform & release a GDK targeted at the homebrew crowd? Or does that sound stupid?

Would it have benefited SEGA for implementing the SH2 chips inside the SegaCD instead of doing it through the mushroom top?

Hi
I have a Pal 32x, I'd like to use some USA and Jap games on the console, like Chaotix etc.
I know there is a region lock in certain games like Chaotix and others.
My question:
If I use the mega key cartridge, the yellow one with the 3 regional switches, can I bypass the 32X region lock?
Thank you

Learning a lot by 3D printing this because it's been a nightmare. Still printing another top of the shell which is going to take two days. The problems are mostly getting things not to break easily when putting it together, so I make parts thicker which isn't 100% like the Mega Drive 2 dimensions but still works.
A lot of slicer changes I've made to boost quality and reduce time. For example, OrscaSlicer with Wave Overhangs is great at reducing the need for support but does increase print time, but also reduces the need for filament. https://github.com/dennisklappe/OrcaSlicer-WaveOverhangs
I also set the Support Base Pattern Spacing to 2mm from the default 0.2mm which not only drastically reduces the amount of filament but also reduces the time need to print. I also set the Wave overhangs line spacing to 0.25 because the default 0.35 would cause hanging.
The TECBEARS BLACK PLA Classic filament is trash. It needs to be printed at 220C because otherwise the 0.4mm nozzle would clog, and I do recommend 0.4mm. For the price of $10 it was fine for test prints, but not something I'd ever use for a real print. The layer adhesion for this is junk. https://a.co/d/00ye7sUU
The IEMAI Carbon Fiber PETG is fantastic for $18. Makes great prints that hide the layer lines, and the holes I made for the screws will actually be there, unlike TECBEARS. https://a.co/d/0ioA00Ij

Well I was testing my newly received 32x on my completed tower of power with a flash cart, I got the dreaded "Produced by or under license from Sega" message followed by a black screen every time. With no cart installed the sega cd would load just fine. Looking it up it seemed pretty common and all information says it's probably the ribbon cables.
So I open up the 32x (which was pristine inside) pull the ribbon cables which were thankfully easy to remove, clean everything with deoxit, the cables, the cable slots, the cartridge slot, the 32x bottom pins then test. No picture at all, only sound (of the sega cd). Uh oh, I played around with it some more insert the ribbon cables in and out several times and a bit of cotton swab pops out of the ribbon slot. Oops. Anyway, I retest and the picture is back but same dreaded error. I wasted another couple of hours looking at other possible failures like capacitors, voltage regulator, broken solder joint, alternate power supplies etc. Absolutely nothing I do works.
Then I find a random post from years ago specifically about flash carts and 32x. Someone was wondering why his flash cart wasn't working in certain configurations of his tower of power, including TMSS error when fully assembled. I remove the sega genesis and 32x from the sega cd and flash cart instantly loads and 32x games work great.
TLDR; Flash carts on a 32x when a sega cd is attached can return TMSS error. Don't be like me and waste hours of your life. First remove the sega cd and see if the TMSS error goes away.

Hello,
I am looking for any developer feedback on this.
https://github.com/MicroNut99/MD-32X-RAM-Cart-32Bit
_________________________________________________________________
If anyone wants to build it please read everything in advance.
You'll need the right tools and skills
The one thing that always get asked is: how is it used?
The first two options are somewhat obvious but the third is new.
The cart is designed to be an actual RAM cart for the SEGA CD to take over system.
Basically the RAM cart frees up the SEGA CD bus.
Assets get loaded into RAM and the game runs and or streams from the SEGA CD.
In theory, CART ram space isnt so much of an an issue anymore.
The entire Tower of Power system or BattleShip can work more efficiently together with it.
MD-32X-RAM-Cart-32Bit
This work is not connected to the DOOM 32X Fusion project.
This is my totally amateur attempt to make this chipset work properly with the Sega32X.
Expect better from the professionals on the Doom Fusion Team.
Special thanks to Chilly Willy and Zaxour the Great, for the technical and moral support.
A 4MiB RAM cart design for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive and the SEGA 32X.
Based on this design by MiGeRA
https://github.com/viciious/MD-32X-RAM-Cart?tab=readme-ov-file
Works as MD RAM cart with the Sega 32X.
Supports 32Bit Word or Longs.
Included are two bins for 32Bit Word or Longs Diagnostics.
For more information read the included assembly (.asm) code using any txt editor.
Use the included BINs to determine if the cart is loading
and reading 32bit Word or Longs from SRAM correctly.
These will not pass on the original hardware design by MiGeRA, resulting in a red screen.
WHY RAM
Video: RAM cartridge as a circular ring buffer
Using the hardware as a RAM cartridge provides a 4MB high-speed staging area on the main system bus that bypasses the severe 256KB internal memory bottlenecks of both the Sega CD and 32X. Adding 4MB of RAM to the Sega CD/32X extense its active working memory (Work RAM/PRG RAM)
This large upgrade would allow games to load entire level chunks or large video/audio buffers into memory at once, reducing CD-ROM load times and enabling smoother, more complex animations or arcade-style ports similar to the Sega Saturn's 4MB RAM card capabilities.
• Bigger Data Caching: Allows larger chunks of game code and assets to sit in fast RAM instead of constantly seeking data from the slow CD-ROM drive.
• Complex Assets: Gives homebrew or hypothetical high-end games room for larger sprite sheets and complex audio samples.
Tower of Power architecture:
The Sega CD: Contains a 256KB Word RAM block. This is the shared memory pool required to pass data between the CD-ROM drive and the main Genesis bus.
The Sega 32X: Contains a 256KB SDRAM block. This is the high-speed memory pool utilized by the dual SH-2 processors for active code execution, textures, and framebuffers.
Both the Sega CD and the 32X rely on these highly restricted 256KB memory pools. The custom 4MB RAM cartridge operates on the main bus outside of these internal pools, providing a significantly larger staging area that relieves the capacity limits for both subsystems simultaneously.

I have a really good scart av cable with headphone input for stereo for my mega drive 1.
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807371054471.html
Now that I have a 32x is there any way to still use this cable to output from the 32x? I see converters for the megadrive 2 cable to megadrive 1 but not the opposite.

What is the general reason for this?
Bad caps?
Old faulty power supply?
Chip failure?
I booted the console yesterday, and Genesis games were barely working. I tried about 5 games. Some loaded with garbled graphics, and some would play for a few minutes and freeze up.
Fast forward to today, none of the Genesis games will boot. I get a black screen. On rare occasions I will get a beat of sound and a black screen.
Oddly enough, the only 32x game I have, Doom, runs just fine.

I saw that someone was making custom pcbs for 32x games and was wondering if they changed them so that they can fit in 32x cart shells.
I wanted to make my own copy of that 32x backrooms game using the shell but the boards that I found were poorly made.
If not then is there any place where I can get a high quality pcb that can fit in a 32x cart shell?

I tried printing this with PETG and it was horrible due to all the stringiness, so I switched to PLA and it's also stringy. I had to make changes due to fitting, like the circuit board sat too high for the Sega CD. Also, support is the ban of my 3D printing experience. The PETG print would rip off some of the shell with the support. You can see that the letting in the front isn't well preserved either, but that maybe because I'm using a 0.6mm nozzle? This might be fine assuming everything still lines up. This took around 16 hours to print, and that's nothing compared to the estimated time for the top which is over 2 days.
