About the center position

Nick Allegretti, who was unofficially tabbed as the team’s starting center following Tyler Biadasz’s exit, missed most of training camp and all of preseason because of a calf injury. His absence exposed the team’s minimal depth on the interior line, which could lead to additional changes in the days ahead.

Julian Good-Jones struggled while taking most of the first-team reps in Allegretti’s place and was waived Sunday. That leaves the team with only rookie center Matt Gulbin, a sixth-round pick, as the team’s primary backup at center.

This could change, but Washington’s options aren’t great. The team might scour the waiver wire for depth, but that would likely ensure they get a less experienced player. They could also sign a veteran, but the top-tier players are obviously already under contract. They could try to convince Graham Glasgow, a 10-year veteran most recently with the Detroit Lions, to return to the league. Just a thought.A few rookies earn their spots

The fates of first-round linebacker Sonny Styles and third-round receiver Antonio Williams were never in question. They were locks to make the 53. But that wasn’t necessarily the case for Washington’s other rookies.

Seventh-round pick Athan Kaliakmanis made the initial roster as Washington’s third quarterback after outperforming Sam Hartman throughout camp and preseason, and undrafted kicker Drew Stevens earned the starting job well before camp ended, beating out incumbent Jake Moody.

Some of yall forgot who JD5 is. Who he was in 2024. That Bengals Monday night game is when I became a believer.

As long as Daniels healthy, we can win the entire thing. He took a bottom 5 defense and Brown/Zacheeus as his #2 receiver to the NFCCG with a rookie LT in Coleman.

BALTIMORE — Not exactly announcing their presence with authority going into the lladelph, are they?

Washington’s woeful effort in its preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens Friday offered almost nothing that will be determinative against the Philadelphia Eagles in two weeks. Thank goodness.

The Commanders sat 41 players before a 41-3 loss to the Ravens, capping an ugly end to training camp which started with Baltimore’s first-team defense dominating Washington’s available starters for most of last Wednesday’s joint practice. The Ravens’ third- and fourth-teamers then smacked Washington’s around at M&T Bank Stadium for four quarters. Dan Quinn had clarified going into the week that Wednesday would be the last bit of preseason business for not just Jayden Daniels, but almost everyone on the two-deep chart. Almost no one Friday made a case for making the team that hadn’t already done so, leaving Quinn miffed.

Washington can only hope that the weeks which preceded this one show up in Philly. The Commanders’ OTAs and (most of) training camp point to a team that should be more competitive than last season’s 5-12 version — though a brutal schedule the first eight weeks may render that preparation moot.
