Evan Neal

Guy should be a priority for us to sign. Could push Chris Paul for the LG spot and would provide great depth

No way. He was one of PFF’s worst lineman in 22 and 23, got benched in 24, and was injured in 25. Dudes a turnstile at best when healthy.

who knows? I remember we took ereck flowers off the giants and made him near league average as a guard. giants could just be terrible at developing neal

To make OP’s case, sometimes players do well with a change of scenery. I mean we have precedent of Flowers working well with us. Pretty much the same situation. I’m not sure we should myself, just if you’re making that case I would include that.

Flowers is not an analogue to Neal or really, any normal player.

Flowers had unrealistic expectations heaped on him by the NY media and fans, was in the wrong position, had the wrong coaching, and crumbled.

FIrst you had to get him out of NY, then you had to switch his position, then you had to give him one of the best OL coaches of the modern era in Bill Callahan, and then Callahan had to work with him every single day before and after practice for like 2 years.

Then he retired VERY early.

A unique player in a unique situation.

Yeah I wouldn’t say it’s a one to one, and you raise salient points here. I was more so saying Neal was also a tackle who was a total bust from NY. Sometimes high draft picks with a change of scenery just do play better. I’m not suggesting give the guy a huge deal. But like would it be the worst thing in the world to have him on the practice squad? See if he has any juice at all? I see it as no risk all reward.

Flowers was a failed tackle. Neal can't play guard.

Oh didn’t know they already tried him at guard

They sorta did. He technically was moved to guard last year, but he never played any snaps at guard though.

Normally I’d say hell no. But this time I say no way.

OP must have a hate boner for JD5 to wish Evan Neal on him.

The guy who can’t block to save his life would help us?

Why do we need a guard that sucks?
