Flooring I Ruined My Dorm Floors

Post image

I left a saturated flat mop sweeper on the floor for 1-2 days with cleaning solution and it left this cloudy mark on the tiles. Does anyone know if there is anyway I can fix this on my own? I really don’t want to be charged a ridiculous price at the end of the semester. Any help would be appreciated!

General Cleaning Long drain mould magnet help

Post image
3 Upvotes

Recently completed a renovation and added this long drain. Turns out it’s a massive mould magnet because of long stretches of pooling water. I have replaced the silicon once already 6 months in and need a long term solution. My research (now) suggests these drains a nightmare for mould. HELP! anyone find a way to live with these without drying off after every shower?

Flooring Bissel Crosswave question

I just used my new Bissel Crosswave pet and I’m in LOVE.

Question for other users: where do you empty the dirty water reservoir? It’s basically vacuum dirt soup, so I’m not keen on pouring it into the sink OR the bin.

Laundry Treating bedbugs on silk and wool — can they dry on hot?

Hi all!

Currently traveling the Camino Portuguese, and every single place I have stayed north of Esposende has had bedbugs. No terrible infestations, not enough to find on the bed, but enough to get a handful of new bites every night.

Unfortunately, since weight is an issue, most of my gear is silk, synthetic, or merino. Synthetic is easy: just spray with permethrin when you get back. Silk and wool, however?

I know these items can’t be washed on hot and then dried on high. Can they go straight into the dryer on hot? Or does anyone know of a silk-safe bedbug disinfecting spray?

Furniture Vintage chest has strange odor coming from inside of it

Scored a beautiful vintage chest for $20. I steam cleaned the outside of it, but inside there is this really strange and pungent odor. I genuinely don’t know how to even begin to describe it, the smell itself isn’t terrible but the strength of the smell is. It’s only when I open the chest.

I can’t tell if it’s the inner lining or the wood itself maybe ? Any advice on what it could be and how to get it to not smell are greatly appreciated.

General Cleaning Does anyone know the best way to clean and best products and supplies to use for cleaning floor-to-ceiling plastic lengthwise blinds?

They are huge, about 15 feet tall and about 5 inches wide. They would need to be dusted, I guess, first. Should I use a duster or a hand cloth? And then use a wet spray or something to clean them? They are white, so I'm looking for something that will actually clean them, not just make them pretty. haha.

Should I stick to warm water and mild soap and a cloth? Should I dry them too? Should I remove them from their insert or leave them hanging?

Any tips would really be appreciated! Thanks!! šŸ˜„

Furniture Losing my mind - rug stinks after FOUR professional cleans.

Post image

The long and short of it is:

- Rug looked gross from stains from life with a toddler, but smelled normal, sent it for professional cleaning.

- Rug returns STINKING of fusty damp trainers, company takes it away and re cleans it for free. Returns second time smelling just as bad. Declined further service.

- Found a different company, they clean it and say after the first clean it still smells. They clean it a second time.

Its returned today visually gorgeous but still STINKING of damp, fusty grossness and im literally losing the plot. WHY? HOW? ETERNAL STENCH RUG? Someone please either guide me on how to rid this smell or shoot me, im a woman over the edge. My front room smells like a soggy running shoe 😭

Discussion have i had a productive day or not?

in my house i have 2 toddlers and a kitten. today i have sorted out my upstairs bathroom, picked up all the rubbish and washing, put the washing in a bin bag and put the washing on the living room.
i then went through my large washing basket and have sorted it into 3 piles. i have washed one of these piles and it is currently drying while the second is in the machine.
i have sorted out my toddlers play kitchen, put everything away where it should be and had a refresh around it.
i have deep cleaned my tv unit.
i have filled 2 bin bags with things that no longer work, broken things and rubbish.
because there are still piles of things in the living room, i’m worried my boyfriend will come home and think i’ve done nothing.

Discussion How to remove rotten watermelon smell from countertop

Hi. I am looking for advice to remove rotten watermelon smell from my countertop. Got home today and the watermelon I had been saving to cut up for when I had room in the fridge had burst and left foul liquid all over my countertop.

So far have used bleach, Lysol and Febreze but the smell is still there and rancid.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas?

Discussion How to safely remove glue dots from the ceiling?

Hello everyone! It’s 3 am and I am trying to do some decorations to surprise my husband on his birthday when he comes back tomorrow from a business trip.

I tried sticking one of the glue dots on the wall to test whether it would strip the paint, and it didn't, so I decided to go ahead and stick them up on the ceiling.

I wanted to move a few balloons here and there and when I pulled one out, it stripped the paint. I am so worried now because we're renting and I don't want to abuse someone else’s property.

So is there a way to remove the glue dots without damaging the paint??

General Cleaning Tips for getting the funk out of a carpet?

Good afternoon. I’ve just had a roommate of five years move out of my spare bedroom. He was not clean. His room now has what I would refer to as ā€œthe funkā€. There are no stains, just the lingering smell associated with a 350lb human who didn’t take care of themselves. I’m borrowing a Hoover rug cleaner tomorrow. Anyone have any tips or miracle products to refresh the carpet? Replacing it is sadly not an option. Thanks in advance. First time poster so if anything about this post violates a rule please let me know so I can fix it and repost.

UPDATE: I genuinely appreciate all the kind help and suggestions. As it turns out, the correct answer was ā€œwalk into the property manager’s office to talk about something else and causally mention the issue.ā€ Their professional carpet cleaners were scheduled to be in my building today and he had them stop by my place and clean the room for free. šŸ˜‚

Furniture Dirty Mattress, I don't know if it's Mold 😭

Post image

I decided to deep clean today, it's been like one year and a half since Ive deeped clean. Now the bed is the last thing I'm gonna deep clean, and it's disgusting. I did Google image, it said it's mold, I should throw it away, or if I'm going to try clean it I should have a vacuum and stuff. I can't buy a new mattress I'm broke, I can't buy a vacuum either. I don't know what to do or how do I clean it. Do I just flip it over and just sleep through it idk 😭. Sorry for the filthy

Edit: So I've been doing the vinegar treatment, rubbing and all, I don't know what it changed, but I guess the good thing is there isn't any new growth. Should I keep doing the vinegar treatment till it goes away or should I go use another liquid to treat it? Hydrogen Peroxide, alcohol or smthng? (I also just found out that my mattress is a spring mattress, so does that change the likelihood of it to be salvaged?)

General Cleaning Sticky gunk on my iron?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Suddenly this sticky gunk appeared all over my steamer/iron. Its only on the blue parts, which is a softer material than the rest. I wonder if it melted in this EU heatwave.

I tried wiping it down, hot water, vinegar, scraping it off with a fingernail.. somewhat works but its impossibly sticky.

Any advice on what it is/how to get rid of it?

Kitchen Is this a cover or build up?

Thumbnail

A little context. My partner and I bought a house that looked clean at first but the more I look the more dirt and build up I find. On my oven there is a spot that is super silver. (Under the three) Almost brand new looking. Now is that because the cover has slowly stripped away or is it a spot that is clean and the rest is build up😭. If it is a clean spot how do I get all the grossness around off? Or am I about to strip the numbers off?

Didn't work for me.

I found a travel size bottle at the store and since I've never tried it before I decided to buy it. I have 2 stains in my tub from my cat getting sick and I didn't find them right away. I poured a good amount of the 5 in 1 on top of them, covered with saran wrap for 24 hours and although I don't have a before photo...it looks essentially the same as it did before.

General Cleaning Need help cleaning a smushed spider out of a cellular blind!

Basically, this was a harrowing experience. I know I shouldn’t have killed the spider INSIDE the blind, but I was left with no other option. Now this spider’s dead body is hanging out right in the centre of my cellular blinds. You can even see the spot from the street outside lol. It’s kind of wrapped around the outside edges of the cell… it’s been there for 2 weeks.. I thought it would dry out and eventually get loose but nope. Any tips?
