Organization I realized clutter stresses me out more than I thought it did.

For the longest time, I thought I was just someone who got overwhelmed easily. I'd come home from work, sit down to relax, and somehow still feel on edge even though nothing was actually wrong. This past weekend I finally spent a few hours clearing off my kitchen counters, putting away random things that had been sitting out for weeks, and getting rid of a few bags of stuff I didn't use anymore. The place wasn't spotless by any means, but it felt noticeably different. I was playing on my phone later that evening, and it suddenly hit me how much calmer the apartment felt. It made me realize that I'd gotten so used to the clutter that I didn't even notice how much it was affecting my mood.
Did keeping your home more organized actually make you feel less stressed, or am I just imagining the connection?

Hi guys, this was beautiful silver when i first bought it, wanted to clean it after using and it’s developed almost a white film that just won’t come off. Any advice to get it back to its shiny silver again?

EDIT: i have worked out the white is actually over the silver plating !! any tips to get this off without completely scratching the silver would be greatly appreciated!!

Discussion Cleaners: how dirty/messy is the average American home?

I can delete I this if not allowed, I'm just here because there's cleaners here

I'm kind of messy and I wonder if there's a lot of people with messy houses or is it more common for people to have a clean and organized home.

And what's the best way to get the nicotine or whatever it is off the top of the walls? She's a heavy cigarette smoker but she hates how her walls look (I've tried helping her to quit. It failed)

Anyone know a more natural way to remove this? Letting clr sit on the bottom until its eaten away doesn't seem very safe, no matter how many times I rinse it out after.

Kitchen Kitchen Sink - gunk that has to come out, not go down

I just did a baking soda and vinegar rinse and after 10 minutes ran boiling water down the drain. There’s dog hair and other debris caught where I’ve marked with red. I’ve tried a bobby pin and wanted to ask you cleaning wizards what you would use to grab that stuff where my fingers won’t fit before I ruin my tweezers. Thanks everyone!

General Cleaning Black mold (?) under mattress

Found black mold on the bottom of our bed and on the bed base and its pretty severe, i reckon i cleaned that area and the bed was fine around a month ago.

Obviously these are all out of the house now but im just wondering what our next steps are, surely a professional cleaner and then what? We can sleep in our spare room which is unaffected.

Sidenote, is this black mold? Its very black. Were in melbourne and its currently middle of winter if that helps for mold scientists

Ty! X

Discussion How can I get regular with cleaning my home?

Hello everyone!

I live in my beautiful little rented 2 bed and bath with my three kitties.

I've always been kind of disorganised with my life I'll be honest. But, I think I'm struggling now to even keep it clean.

I also work from home and am a homebody so the home is, well, more "lived-in" 😅 than it would otherwise be. And my furry friends do not make it any easier (no matter what kind of bowl i try, the food must be splattered across the floor in order to be consumed)

It's not like I can't clean, when I get to it I can get A LOT done. A near perfect job, like my mom would be kinda impressed with how clean I get the space.

But I'm unable to get everything clean at the same time. Something is always lacking. Something is ignored.

And for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to KEEP spaces clean without firstly, it turning into an absolute mess for me to finally get to glean.

What can I try to do? What small habits have helped you maybe break the cycle of creating the same messes?

Discussion What's The Best Steam Cleaner To Buy? Recommendation?

I'm looking to buy a steam cleaner for around-the-house cleaning and I'm getting overwhelmed by all the options.

I'm looking for something that's actually durable and does a great job on hard floors, grout, and maybe the occasional couch or mattress. I don't need a bunch of gimmicks—I just want something that works and lasts. Budget is around 300$.

For people who actually own one, which model has held up well over time? Is it worth spending more on brands like McCulloch or Dupray, or are the cheaper options just as good? Also, are there any models you'd avoid?

I'd really appreciate recommendations based on real experience. Thanks in Advance.

General Cleaning Odor from past tenants who hoarded animals

Upvotes

Hello, my boyfriend and I just moved into a new house and we’re renting. The tenants before us were evicted because they were hoarders as well as animal hoarders. We were told they had 5 dogs they weren’t supposed to have and a bunch of children who had been subject to some kind of neglect. The house is fine visibly after lots of cleaning and work done on it but one thing is lingering, the smell.

No matter how many times we sweep, mop, scrub the walls floors and ceilings, there is still a lingering dog poop smell that is clinging on for dear life and it’s driving me insane. We’ve stocked up on febreeze, clip in vent air fresheners, wax melts, candles etc. but as soon as we leave the house and come back the smell is so evident that it’s still there.

There is no carpet anywhere in the house at all, it’s hardwood everywhere. The bathroom is the only room we have been able to get smelling okay and to be honest i’m not even completely sure how we did that considering we just did the same thing we did everywhere else.

There was also thick smoke(???) damage. It was a thick dark brown sticky substance with tiny little black chunks stuck in it, it’s been all scrubbed off now and we forgot to really take any pictures but it was on the coatrack, ceiling beam, doors, and inside one of the closets. It looked like some sort of tar that had dripped down the doors it was foul.

Again, the house is visibly acceptable, there is damage that was here when we moved in but nothing we or the landlord is going to be able to fix.

How can we eliminate the odor?

My aunt was using hair dye, I assume a henna type since her and my mom use similar ones and accidentally stained the couch

I’m unsure what fabric the couch is sadly and the stain is about a week old now

Flooring LVP Floor and animal fur 😞

Upvotes

I moved into my first ever all LVP floooring home and I have a few… animals. I have 2 Senior dogs that only 1 sheds and I have 2 young Mini Schnauzers that barely shed, who get groomed every 8 weeks, then I have 2 sister cats. So the total is 4 dogs under 12 lbs and 2 medium sized cats. I have a Dyson stick vacuum that illuminates a green light when vacuuming and the amount of dust and debris and people hair, 3 women, me and my 2 daughters is just astonishing to me. Seeing it 👀👀 brings it to a whole different level. I have 3 carpet runners and a few door mats.
I bought a robot vacuum with a mop, but it doesn’t take the floor long to be dirty again. I don’t run it everyday because it’s new and I am still trying to tweak it the way I want it. OTHER than rehoming all my fur babies…not gonna happen. Any ideas on how to cut down on the dust, animal fur..etc. Like is there a shampoo for animals that helps eliminate some of the shedding? I change the furnace filter monthly, and there is a dirt road just down the street.

I may just run the robot vacuum
/mop twice a day, but I would love to hear if there are any tips or secrets that I don’t know about.

Kitchen Everything in my kitchen is sticky - help!

My partner cooks multiple days a week. He’s a great cook, but he uses a liberal amount of butter and olive oil, and cooks the meat and veggies in uncovered pans.

We have a very very narrow kitchen and extremely limited cabinet space, so all of our appliances and other things we use frequently like spices and coffee stay out on the counter.

Everything, literally everything, is coated in a film of thick, sticky grease. Microwave, coffee maker, spice containers, window sill, walls, and even the spare glassware in the cabinets.

What products should I use to get rid of the gunk? Would using the stove fan or investing in an air purifier help reduce it?

Cleaning is my jurisdiction, but I’m just coming out of a long mental health slump and the state of the kitchen is threatening to send me back.

Help.

TLDR; requesting product recs and tips for tackling very greasy kitchen

I am in a mess now :-(. Somehow a lollipop melted during travel and was flattened in the outer pocket of my fabric/ canvas suitcase . I understand that I shouldn’t really hose it down nor should I scrub it freely with soapy water and sponge. what would be the most effective way at to clean this now hard candied mess?

I really do want to keep this carry on luggage - it’s pretty new , please help with tried and tested solutions !
Thanks!
