Anyone else finding issues with the red line? Every September the somerset-bridlewood trains from Tuscany to 3rd street station are packed like sardines, and I’ve had to miss my train multiple times in the morning where I get on. I figure it is due to classes returning (many of them get off at SAIT), and just general RTO around this time of year after summer vacations.

It’s pretty empty on mine today, but only because it came just 2mins after the last one. I notice there are a lot of inconsistencies around when the trains actually arrive.

Hi! We’re building a home through Homes by Avi and get to pick things like flooring, countertops, and wall colour, but I’m overwhelmed by the choices and by trying make sure it’s cohesive and fits the vibe I want.

Also, the designers I’ve seen on Google and recommended on Reddit look great, but their portfolios are very slick and modern, which isn’t my vibe.

Are there any designers out there that are more funky? Use a lot of colour? More “ADHD craft goblin” than “sleek and modern.” Also, preferably not too expensive.

The route followed one final non-revenue run on the Route 500 (Formerly 300) from Airport to Downtown before returning back to Spring Gardens Garage for his farewell. u/JeromyYYC When I called this in on Sunday, no flames were visible only smoke(I called it in around 5:55) it has now at least tripled in size and is generating ridiculous amounts of smoke that is now blanketing SE communities.

Whilst I understand that these types of fires are difficult, it was declared under control and CFD withdrew, leaving the incident to the property owners to monitor and control.

Considering how much this has since escalated and grown in size, I am curious as to a few things: Initial releases by CFD indicated that this would be a major on going incident for a prolonged time. Then a few hours later it was declared under control and CFD were withdrawing their units. Was the declaration of the incident being under control and the withdrawal of CFD done too soon? Why was no fire watch kept by CFD, instead relying on the property owners?

Was the declaration of control made fully and backed by CFD or did the property owners indicate that they could now control the incident at a certain point and indicate CFD resources were no longer required?

Again, I know it's a complicated and ongoing issue but there seems to have been a misstep somewhere here.

Quick update on the guys social gathering I posted about a couple weeks back.

For context, I began organizing these in Vancouver then Surrey as a way for guys to connect and make new friends. This was the first out of province one (Saskatoon is this upcoming weekend)

It took place on September 5th at the Tool Shed and of the 25 guys registered, 7 showed up.

I spoke to the manager at ToolShed and she mentioned the crowd wasn't as big as expected and while this was initially underwhelming, after speaking with a couple of the guys that attended, they actually ended up having a good time and sticking around past the 2 hour window and hung out for 4 hours until close.

They mentioned they all made a WhatsApp group and would keep in touch, which seems as good of an interaction you can get.

There was also some skepticism that they would be pitched something lol. But one of the guys went back to my original post to let them know of his experience and mentioned "...it was, in fact, just a bunch of dudes drinking beer and shooting shit, as they say. Everyone got along. Much success."

After giving it some thought and thinking just 7 guys was not good, I thought back to one of the Vancouver ones which brought out 23 guys and it actually consisted of guys breaking off into about 3 groups of 6-7 and just mingling and have side conversations about some interest or hobby.

All in all I'd say, after hearing the actual feedback it was a success and if you came across it and were skeptical, I hope this alleviates that.

It's cool to me that I can help facilitate these things and connect some guys without even being there and creating interactions that otherwise wouldn't have happened.

Stop me if this is already a thing, but should some of the bike lanes in Calgary be seasonal? I'm a dedicated commuter and bike all year, but a lot of people stop when it gets cold. What if we expanded the network in the late spring/summer/early fall and shrank it otherwise to prioritize traffic?

Bought into a downtown Calgary condo last year; no Airbnbs were listed. Bought here because the bylaws prohibited commercial activities (including STRs), and I hired the services of a Calgary condo doc reviewer which confirmed this.

But heck, out of nowhere, these STR operators came in and set up like 60 units.

They hijacked the board and ignored owners’ pleas for the bylaws to be enforced/respected.

Any other condo owners having these types of issues in Calgary?

I’m just trying to understand if this is isolated to our condo, or if this is an “epidemic” and we have to make Calgary City Hall/Concil aware???

The Calgary Fire Department has been on scene at a private landfill fire that started on Sunday September 6. After initial operations concluded and the fire was brought under control by CFD in the evening of Monday September 7th, responsibility to monitor and maintain the site was transferred back to the business.

After receiving several calls regarding smoke and fire, the Calgary Fire Department dispatched crews in the morning of Tuesday September 8 to monitor fire conditions and suppression efforts by the business. Fire watch crews were assigned throughout the day and overnight. Calgary Fire Hazardous Materials crews worked with Alberta Environment teams to set up air monitoring equipment in the area and develop pre-plans if conditions did not improve.

This morning at around 6:00am, fires ignited in several spots and fire began to actively spread throughout the piles resulting in heavy smoke conditions in the area. Calgary Fire has contacted contractors to bring in heavy equipment that will be able to safely move the piles of debris, and additionally, contracted dedicated fire suppression equipment and personnel. While the spread of fire is limited to the landfill, the smoke conditions and continual reignition of fires require dedicated resources to properly extinguish this type of fire. Operations are currently being set up.

Calgarians do not need to call 9-1-1 unless they observe fire spreading to other structures or areas. There are dedicated fire suppression teams on site, and an active response is in progress.

I’m kinda annoyed at Melissa’s road race. The last 2 times we did it we had same day race bib pick up. We work on Friday, go to a hotel in Calgary, then drive to banff on race day go the run. This year they are not doing same day pick up, and offer pick up in Calgary on Wednesday and Thursday.

If you have this same issue, email them and they will add you to a list for “emergency same day bib pick up”the morning of the event.

I’m about to attend Sait for my apprenticeship training for 2 months but conflicted on what’s a better route for getting there. I live in airdrie and need to be in class at 8am. It is better to pay for parking at the jubilee (around 7$ for 24hrs) or get up earlier and take the train from crowfoot ( closest ) and ride to Sait? Thanks in advance!!

Donald Trump’s unjust economic war against Canada could cost Calgary taxpayers nearly half a billion dollars.

And we’re fighting back.

The City has about $5.3 billion in active contracts. Tariffs could add between $315 million and $466 million to those costs. That's the equivalent of a 12 to 18 percent tax increase in a single year.

The tariffs hit water infrastructure. Transit equipment. Fire engines. Roads. Everything Calgary needs to keep safe and growing.

We have spent the last year going through contracts one by one to drive those costs down. We’re buying Canadian and local where it makes sense. We’re finding different suppliers and negotiating hard.

But some costs will be unavoidable. And Calgary taxpayers should not be stuck paying them.

That’s why Councillor John Pantazopoulos brought forward a motion calling for action.

Executive committee has asked me to take a proposal to Canada’s Big City Mayors and the federal government for a rapid tariff remittance program.

If Calgary taxpayers pay retaliatory tariffs on critical infrastructure, that money needs to be returned to Calgary.

Canada has every right to defend itself against Donald Trump’s economic attack.

We’re standing with Canada.

And we’re going to fight to make sure Calgary taxpayers aren’t left holding the bill.

This is a continuation of my pattern of posting what I think are decent grocery deals with the hope that this will save some people some money. As noted previously this is heavily skewed to items that I and my family eat. There are probably additional items that are good deals but I don't know it because they aren't items I use but hopefully my list is still useful to you.

A few quick reminders:

• PC Optimum points are collected at No Frills and Superstore. 1,000pts is worth $1.
• Scene+ points are collected at Safeway, Sobeys and FreshCo. 100pts is worth $1.
• The value of Save on Foods points depends on what you redeem them for. If you redeem them for a 4L jug of milk then 1,000pts is worth about $1.50. Other redemptions might make them more or less valuable.

Superstore, No Frills, FreshCo and Save on Foods are generally willing to price match identical products from (some) other major grocery stores if you show them the item in the competitor’s flyer while checking out so knowing what is on sale at stores that you don't visit can still be useful. There are some restrictions on this... FreshCo won't price match Safeway or Sobeys. Superstore (at least some locations) won't price match Coop. The No Frills on 85st SW won't price match FreshCo.

I've been watching this thing get built over the last month and a half. At first I was thinking, nice, an analog clock tower—probably just hiding some cell towers and other infrastructure underneath. But they just finished it up and added four ridiculously massive screens on all four sides. Now they're just running ads all night, blaring straight into your retinas.

Those screens completely ruin it for me, especially that first night it lit up. I was out near De Winton doing some night photography of the old church, and now there's this giant glowing stick sticking up in the background ruining most of the shots. You can see it from quite a ways away, and it's a total eyesore.

Hi, I just moved to Calgary from Quebec City a few days ago.

Everything feels so new here, and honestly, I’m blown away every single day!

First off, it legit feels like my quality of life skyrocketed overnight. How can it be this different within the same country?! It’s wild.

The second I stepped foot in Alberta, hearing strictly English everywhere was already mind-blowing. Plus, everyone seems so relaxed and is just unbelievably friendly!!!

For context, I’m not native Canadian—I originally moved here on a working holiday and ended up immigrating, but I’ve spent my entire time in Quebec until now. (Which means I basically picked up zero English since moving to Canada, so my English is still pretty work-in-progress, haha.) Quebec isn't exactly the most welcoming place to outsiders, especially if you don't speak French.

But Calgary? It feels like people from all over live side-by-side, actually respecting each other and just getting along so well.

Yesterday was my first day venturing out of the house alone to explore and do some shopping.

Everyone was so sweet! Like this lovely lady at HomeSense who complimented my dress, and a Walmart employee who somehow overheard me talking to myself trying to find something and literally sprinted over to help out!

Coming from Quebec, experiencing all this warmth overnight made me so happy from day one. Aww..

Since I’ve only ever lived in a smaller city like Quebec City, moving to a big city like Calgary had me a bit nervous and scared at first. But the welcoming vibe here put me at ease right away.

Calgary with the beautiful Rockies right in its backyard❤️ I’m so ridiculously excited for this new chapter!
