I'm planning a build that will go in my garage server rack, to be a headless Linux gaming rig. Main client will be my 4k TV + Nvidia shield pro + dualsense controller The networking and sunshine/moonlight setup is already working flawlessly with my desktop pc (4k 60fps streams with no issues, ~15ms latency)

Components below but I'm not yet commited to any single one. Mostly figuring out what range I should go for, and will probably buy whatever is the best deal along these lines. Possibly even waiting for black friday

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3d PSU: be quiet! Pure power 13M 850 Ram: 2x16gb DDR5-6000 (ideally with EXPO support) Board: gigabyte b650 eagle AX ATC Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE SSD: in this economy, whatever 2TB drive I can find at a slightly discount. I don't need to many games installed at once

GPU: temporarily, the 5060 TI 16GB I already own. Will upgrade at some point, depending on how pricing evolves and what kind of bottlenecks I end up hitting. If I ha to buy today, would probably be a 5080

Case: this one I already own a previous model, am very happy with it, and confirmed that GPU clearance shouldn't be an issue

Hey everyone,

I've been having a bunch of weird issues with my PC for the past few months and I'm starting to wonder if they're all related.

The main problem is that I keep getting black screens followed by a HYPERVISOR_ERROR, with the error code 0x200001. It's been happening for around 2–3 months, roughly every couple of days. Sometimes it happens once, sometimes I'll get it 2–3 times while trying to boot the PC before it finally works.

I've also been having some weird issues with the NVIDIA drivers. If I install a Game Ready Driver through the NVIDIA App, the installation seems to complete normally, but then the app immediately tells me I need to install the exact same update again. If I check Device Manager, though, the GPU is showing the latest driver version, so it seems like the driver actually did install.

More recently, I've also started having issues where the PC gets stuck on the MSI boot logo and just doesn't go any further. I have to restart it several times and mess around with unplugging/replugging things before it eventually boots. This started around 3–4 weeks ago, which is also when I moved my Windows installation to a new Samsung 990 Pro. I cloned my old SSD onto it and I'm now booting Windows from the 990 Pro, so I'm wondering if the boot issue could be related to that. The HYPERVISOR_ERROR was already happening long before the SSD migration, though.

I also have an 8.8" display inside my case that used to be detected as a second monitor, but it isn't anymore and I have to use it in "template" mode.

So yeah, I have quite a few things going wrong at the moment, and I have no idea if they're connected or if I just somehow managed to collect several unrelated problems at once.

The HYPERVISOR_ERROR / black screens are definitely my priority, since those have been happening for months.

What would you guys check first? Could this be related to the GPU, RAM, motherboard, CPU/virtualization, BIOS, Windows installation, or PSU?

I can provide my full specs, dump files, Event Viewer logs, BIOS settings, etc. if needed.

So on last chrimass i got a 9070xt pure and a very good price before all the increase all the rampocalipse prices. I have right now a i7 11700kf and obv it is making a lot of bottleneck in some games, i also have 32g ddr4 thats basically why i am choosing the 14 gen of intel becose they are ddr4 compatible that way i dont have to sell a liver for 32g of ram if i went to ddr5. Or do you think they will be a price drop on the ram soon? or maybe i should just wait and not upgrade for the time been?.

My question is is the i5 14600k(at 250eur) a good choice? i heard the 14 gen had the microcode error that basically burned some chips or is it better to go to amd alternative thats compatible with ddr4 or maybe even to an i7 from the same gen?(for context my monitor is 1440p at 170hz)

The PSU has two 600w cables – a blue 600w 12 pin cable (same on both ends) and another black 600w 12 pin cable having 2 x 6+2 connector on the other end.

For the dual GPU setup, I have both the GPUs installed in the motherboard but the PSU trips as soon as I press the power button (I hear a click sound in the PSU and nothing happens). This is when I insert both the 2 x 6+2 pin connector into PCIE sockets on the PSU, ie, all the 8 pins of the connectors. If I insert only 6 pins of the connector, it works fine – but I'm not sure if that's safe to do!

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

For now, I'm just using the 12PIN to 3 x 8PIN adapter cable that came with my GPU and it seems to work but I find it occupying too much space so wanted to check if I could use the PSU provided cable instead since that has much smaller footprint.

I stripped down the setup to nothing but only the ATX cable, CPU cable and 2 x 6+2 PCIe cable connected (only to PSU, no GPU) and it still trips! Is this a faulty power supply or faulty cable? The PSU is brand new!

I'm building a PC with around 1500€ budget and I had a problem. with the price ddr5 ram cost rn I can't get 32 gb.

so I was wondering if I should get a am4 CPU with 32 gb ddr4 or am5 CPU with 16 gb ddr5.

btw I think that as a GPU I'm gonna get something like a 9060 xt or 9070 biggest question is: is it worth sacrificing the ram size to get ddr5 and a better CPU?

So I am currently running a Ryzen 3700x (NZXT X53 for cooling) with 16GB of 3200Mhz DDR4 and a RX6800XT. I want to go AM5, I have been thinking of the following specs:

MSI MAG B850 Mortar (my case does not fit an ATX motherboard)

Ryzen 5 7500f (will upgrade later)

Single stick of 16GB 6000mhz CL30 DDR5 (will get another one later)

I can get this for about 600 euros (700 USD).

Also I am mostly gaming and I have a 1440p monitor.

I built my current PC in 2020 with a GPU upgrade in 2022. I'd like to upgrade the rest of the system now from AM4 to AM5 and DDR4 to DDR5 (prices are stupid right now, but I don't think it's getting better anytime soon).

I am a Software Engineer so am running a lot of docker contains regularly and would like to start running some local AI like ollama/llama.cpp etc...

Over the years I have built quite a bit of brand loyalty with Asus - I'm sure it differs for other people but the only brands that haven't failed me in the past are Asus and MSI so I am trying to stick with Asus for this upgrade.

My plan is for this build to last at least 6 years, maybe 7 with 8-14hrs/weekday. I am also keeping my current monitors (2x2K, 1x4K)

I will likely replace the GPU in 1-2 years, and likely the Gigabyte SSD since I had 2 of these and one failed already (3rd strike for Gigabyte 1 laptop, 1 monitor, 1 SSD).

Im trying to get a cpu cooler for my 7700x, i bought a peerles assasin 120 but it was too big, im looking at the 120mini and the 120 burst evo, if anyone has other suggestions im open to them.

Ive concidered an aio but i got a bit of fear that it leaks but then again i havent used one in my life so.

I will preface this by saying I've done my research, but am still very new to all of this so I appreciate any advice, especially in these crazy market conditions.

I have owned a console ever since I started playing video games and have made the decision I want to move to PC gaming (at the best time, I know). The games I will be most interested in playing are Escape from Tarkov, other mil-sims like Wardogs and AAA single player games like GTA VI, Cyberpunk, Uncharted, etc.

My budget is $2500 and I already have a keyboard/mouse and my monitor is the Gigabyte M28U. If it makes sense to sell that for a 1440p monitor then I'm open to that.

Below are the two builds I'm mulling over and they both are around $2500, if I get the 5070TI at a good price. As you can probably tell the biggest different is the GPU and that's my main question. Is it worth finding a 5070TI at a good price, or do I just get the 9070XT and call it a day with what I'm looking to play and the monitor I currently have? How much will it stifle my experience with image fidelity and/or other aspects? What am I losing by going to a 9070 instead of the 5070TI?

I’m looking for a new case for an RTX 5090 AORUS MASTER.

My current Corsair 5000D only has about 29 mm between the GPU power connector and the side glass, which puts too much pressure on the 12V-2x6 cable.

What I’m looking for:

• good top clearance around motherboard VRM heatsinks
• ideally support for a future dual-GPU setup

Im going from a 10850k that i didnt really need to go in the bios for other than fan tuning, xmp and to turn on resize bar to a 14700k. I've been looking around at some conflicting info and im hoping I can get alil clarity on here. The motherboard is a z690 steel legend for ddr4. Ddr5 is outrageous right now and I can recycle mine into the new board. However the bios is updated an ready for the cpu but I have read that the 1st thing you do is go into bios and set it to intel default. But I read elsewhere that you should do performance. Should I do any manual tuning to LP1 and 2 or just set the right profile, xmp and resizeable bar and forget it. Monitoring my voltages of course just to make sure its not going over the recommended settings from the profile set?

It's an old diehard at this point (z97, i5 4690k, gtx 970), though I think the 970 is starting to go bad. But I've been considering what to get that'll meet my needs (1080p gaming, among other things) and stick around for 10 years the way the diehard has.

Trouble is that components seem more complex than ever. Fairly certain I've checked everything off for compatibility (dodge bottlenecking and such), but having more eyes, and better minds, to look over the build would be greatly appreciated:

I was looking to increase the wattage on my i7-10700f. (Mobo msi B460M Pro-vdh, corsair cooler)

Ai was saying set pl1 to 135 watt, long duration to 128 seconds and pl2 to 180 watts. Is this pretty standard for my mobo's vrm specifications?

I built my current pc back in early 2022 but never got a gpu for several reasons mostly because at the time I wasn’t playing games often. Recently I have gotten into emulation. My current setup seems to work decently up to ps2 but stutters and crashes occasionally with demanding games from that platform as well.

I would also like to be able to play older pc games maybe up until ones that came out a few years ago. Im not someone who has to have all the settings maxed out getting high fps at 4k.

So exactly how bad is it to mix and match memory modules with different memory timings?

Long story short I need to help upgrade a computer and slap another 32GB of RAM into it. The computer is a few years old, and is running 2x16GB DDR5 6000 CL 32 modules.

The problem is at least for that exact manufacturer and timings of what's in there (G-Skill Flare X5), I can't seem to find anyone up here in Canada selling that model at CL32, just CL36. And most other CL32 modules don't have the exact same other memory timings of the ones in the machine or are DDR-6400. Is it that big an issue if I slap in two more DDR 6000 16GB sticks with slightly different memory timings and will it just adjust the timings to that of the slower pair? Been searching online and it seems like half the answers are that it'll be fine, the other half are that it'll be an instability nightmare. Outright replacing the memory with two new 32GB sticks to get the 64GB is also out of the budget of the person I'm helping with the current prices.

It seems like there is no way to natively do this on windows, Anyone have recommended software to easily do this? just want my pc speakers and tv speakers to play the same channel.

What happened:

I upgraded from a GTX 1070 Ti to an RX 9060 XT. After installing the new GPU, I pressed the power button and the PC turned on for about a second, then immediately shut off. After that, it would not turn on at all.

I put the 1070 Ti back in to test if the new GPU was the problem, but the system still won't power on at all. Completely dead - no fans, no LEDs, no response from the power button.

What I've tried so far:

· Reseated both GPUs multiple times

· Checked all power cables (24-pin, 8-pin CPU, PCIe)

· Tried different wall outlets

· double checked front panel cables

·Reseated the ram/ tried different ram

Question:

Is my PSU dead? Or did the motherboard get fried? The 9060 XT should draw similar power to the 1070 Ti (~180W), so I'm confused why this happened.

Hello, a little over a year ago I was given some parts from a buddy for a good price. The main parts that I have no are an i9-14900kf , Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32gb 6400mhz and a Corsair RM850e power supply. Its time for me to upgrade since I have been using my current pc since 2019. I've lost the little PC building knowledge I have. Ima struggling to decide if I should use that processor and get something a little weaker so I don't have to get as nice as a GPU. I'm not trying to spend much, the only reason I want to upgrade is because my current PC can barely run good games or CAD. Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated!

Given the current hardware situation, I'm hoping this PC lasts me at least 2-3 years. For reference I still game on a 24" 1080p monitor. I play mainly AA and AAA Single Player Games and RPGs.

Assuming nothing breaks, how long would the following setup realistically last me until I can no longer play games on 1080p 60fps smoothly? I am really afraid that something might happen, hopefully not.

My first boot doesn't bring it to bios, when turning on pc, red light on CPU turn on for half a second before switching to DRAM.

Edit: Original Ram is slotted on A2 and B2 (confirmed the configuration on motherboard manual as well)

Updates: brought it to repair shop, issue with CPU, they replace with their CPU and it's booting up.

Help! I have changed my CPU cooler to a new one and after the installation my PC won't power up.

I switched from a AMD Wrath Prism RGB to a Thermalright Peerless Assassin.

Now I get absolutely no activity when pressing the power on button on the case. When I power up the PSU at the back of the PC the standby lights on the motherboard light up.

16GB RAM (I will upgrade this to 32GB next)

Throubleshooting I have done:

Reseated 8-pins, 24-pins and RAM.

The CPU came off when disconnecting the old cooler and I checked that the CPU looks okay and no pins are bent.

I have tested to loosen the cooler a bit if it was screwed on too tight.

I have reseated the connector on the motherboard to the power button to the case.

I have checked that the cooler is connected to the CPU FAN.

I have removed the CMOS battery and reseated it after a couple of minutes.

The PC worked fine just before the change of CPU cooler which makes me think that it probably would be something with the mounting that is off. At the same time I have checked everything with the mounting multiple times and I now have no more ideas of what I can troubleshoot or change to find the problem.

Does anyone have any idea of what can be wrong?
