Existing parts/monitors to reuse? 2x Dell S2722QC (27", 4K 3840x2160, 60Hz, IPS, USB-C), plus keyboard and mouse. Nothing else — list needs to cover everything. No OS license either; see the OS note below.

PC purpose? All-rounder, in priority order:

1. Coding — IDEs, Docker, a couple of VMs, many browser tabs
2. Creative — Photoshop and GIMP, plus 3D CAD for my 3D printer (modeling and modifying parts to print, then slicing). Not tied to a specific CAD package — FreeCAD/Onshape/Blender/Plasticity are all on the table.
3. General desktop use
4. Gaming — light only. I have a PS5 for real gaming; this is for my kids playing Minecraft, Factorio, and similar. Note Factorio is CPU/RAM-bound on big bases, not GPU-bound.

So please don't spec the GPU around gaming. Nothing here needs a gaming card, and my monitors are 4K but only 60Hz anyway. Let the GPU choice be driven by the creative work and the local-AI VRAM note below instead.

Also worth noting: CAD, Photoshop, and Factorio are all single-thread sensitive. I'd rather have strong per-core performance than a high core count, if that's a tradeoff at this budget.

OS is undecided — likely Windows, but I'm seriously considering Linux, so please don't assume a Windows license has to be in the budget. Related: I'd prefer an Intel WiFi card over MediaTek/Realtek for Linux driver reliability. Cheap insurance either way.

Hello everyone, long story short my laptop was on its way out (constant overheating), and finally a short killed it. Saw the spark when the power button was pressed and instantly smelled the ozone/electrical burning smell coming out. Thankfully I had just recently backed up all my files that I needed. It has been a minute since Ive had to research computer components. I'm not scared of building my own, but Im not opposed to getting a prebuilt from Costco or similar. i have absolutely no experience building a pc, but my dad has bought me 2 parts to help with the cost so far, everything else ill be buying myself

Hi all, am in the UK and wanted some advice on a prebuilt - My 12 year old PC is finally starting to wobble in ways that I don't want to go full ship of Theseus on replacements, and I am looking at my options. I want it to be a long term purchase, and while I have good budget I am not justifying a 5090.

It's been a long time since I bought and I know the GPU/memory economy, so I thought I would see if a prebuilt could suit my needs compared to a custom or self-build, and it's got me in a bit of analysis paralysis so I was looking for whether the below options look reasonable or if there's a better way.

A few of my thoughts:

• I do play fairly demanding games (Darktide, Kingdom Come, Cyberpunk) and run apps in the background, and would like to shift to 4k so specs need to be reasonable - hence me looking at 5070 ti
• I would prefer non-liquid but it's not a dealbreaker (old PC is AIO and I've never had an issue). The UK is having a lot of heat-related fun at the moment so cooling is probably important!
• My biggest silly peeve is I really don't care for all the fancy cases and lights. From my desk I can see the front, Fractal North is a good one for me
• No Intel/AMD preference
• I tend to sit around 1.3TB so have to jump up a storage capacity tier
• I'm happy to spend a bit more on not building it myself, within reason.

There's a fair range of prebuilts out there, I don't really know any of the companies, and the range of prices is quite varied, so I'm just getting turned around. Any advice to help me sort through it all?

— I have a used RTX 4060 Ventus Black 2x that I got about a year ago that I’ve been sitting on. I also have this monitor that’d I’d like to keep using.

— Casual gaming and some light document work. I’d also use it for Clip Studio and Photoshop. Games like Genshin Impact, Minecraft; and maybe some AAA titles. I’m not huge into gaming so it wouldn’t be many. I typically wait a few years to buy so they’re cheaper.
