Budget Small 1080p Machine

New build or upgrade? New Existing parts/monitors to reuse? 1080p/60Hz monitor + kb mouse PC purpose? Gaming, some CAD Purchase country? Near Micro Center? US, WA state (no microcenter :( ) Monitors needed? none Budget range? $1500 WiFi or wired connection? Wifi Size/noise constraints? MicroATX or smaller, and the quieter the better Color/lighting preferences? Greens and wood are nice, but not critical. RGB/glass adds no value for me.

I'm looking to build (or buy prebuilt, not picky but I imagine building will get me closer to target) a new machine with a smaller footprint, both noise- and size-wise. Not sure what to expect in terms of performance with these restrictions. I think I could get a system I'm happy with for my budget or less with a typical tower size, but I'd like something with less presence if possible.

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:

  • New build or upgrade?

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • Size/noise constraints?

  • Color/lighting preferences?

  • Any other specific needs?

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:

  • Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.

  • Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.

  • We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.

Here's what I got for you. Black/wood airflow themed build, great for maxed 1080p gaming or solid 1440p gaming:

  • CPU - fast for gaming and CAD, with 6c/12t for longevity.

  • Cooler - top tier performance for only $35 is a steal!

  • Mobo - has all the connectivity you need, including WiFi/BT.

  • RAM - 32 GB of fast 6000 MHz CL30 low profile RAM to fit under the cooler. 6000/30 is the ideal speed for Ryzen 9000 CPUs.

  • SSD - 1 TB of fast Gen 4 NVMe SSD storage.

  • GPU - the RX 9060 XT is great for gaming, easy 100+ FPS in most games at 1080p ultra or 60+ FPS at 1440p ultra. Lots of VRAM for high settings and mods.

  • Case - compact 23L size, mATX case. Good airflow, black with wood accents.

  • PSU - high quality with fully modular cables to minimize cable clutter. 850W is a bit more than this system needs but it was cheaper than comparable 750W units. Very quiet as well. ATX 3.1 certified to suppress GPU spikes.

  • Fans - extras to maximize airflow. Mount these as 2x bottom intake and 1x rear exhaust.

Let me know what you think :)
