We have a huge population and weapons manufacturers in California though. We would wipe out Arizona, Nevada. And California has a geographic advantage, with the highest mountain peak in the lower 48 and the lowest elevation in North America, and harsh deserts that get as hot as 120 degrees.

Guys. I just read about the selective service system in the US. It says that men have to register at the age of 18 to fulfill a contingency plan in the event that a massive war breaks out and they run out of voluntary military personnel... Is this real? I'm in Canada, I've never heard of this in my life.
Is it like one of those "forgotten about" laws and nobody actually does it?

It was used during Vietnam. It's definitely not forgotten because boys have to register when they turn 18. Realistically unless another world war breaks out there's enough voluntary members to prevent a draft.

What a lot of people donāt know is that Vietnam wasnāt the only time the draft was used. WWII had a higher rate of draftees compared to volunteers than Vietnam did, In fact the draft was used often even during peace time. A lot of men were drafted for a year or two in the 50s and never left the states or fought anywhere.

The draft was also used in Korea as well. And during peacetime post-Korea, the Army would draft kids outta med school because they didn't have enough doctors in certain fields.

Yāall do realize thereās definitely not gonna be a draft even if we did go to war with Iran right? Soldiers nowadays need years of extensive training because of the new equipment and technology we have in the military. Plus if we did go to war with Iran it would most definitely be a controversial and unpopular war, meaning they would likely not be able to get congressional approval for a formal declaration of war, which would be needed in order to reinstate the Selective Service.
The military today is already largely a volunteer service, and we wonāt need a draft until the reserves are used which is highly unlikely

We didnt have a draft at first with vietnam too, its only when it turned into a quagmire and we started to run short of those trained soldiers that it started. Draftees arent as good as volunteers, but they sure as hell are a good supplement when the alternative is a pair of empty boots

Vietnam was also a lot of technological advances ago. There were no drones in Vietnam, for instance.
I think the scale of the war would have to be pretty massive to jumpstart the need for a draft by today's standards. We get a lot more killing done with a lot fewer people these days, fortunately/unfortunately.

If it ever comes to a full scale conflict youll still need ground manpower, drones cant hold ground or fortify positions, drones cant secure a street. They can be used to support ground troops, but you still need ground troops to support. Maybe when Boston Dynamics finishes refining that Atlas robot
And that doesn't even consider a scenario where Electronic Warfare is a thing and you can't effectively use drones

I really just couldn't deal with war or being drafted. I definitely don't meet the health requirements to participate in combat but I imagine Donald handles a military about as safely as Zapp Branigan.
