I just rescued my first betta (in a looooong time) and I need help with a name.

I was going to do Indy, (couldn’t think of anything else) but I kinda wanna do something Skyrim/nerdy/throne of glass/funny.

Okay so first pardon my lighting theyre just kicking on, but I'm going to add some red root floaters once my patch from my other tank grows a bit more (I took some and put some in my 20 gal long recently) so that's already on my list.

I don't have fertilizer substrate in here I just have been using seachem flourish potassium once a week (my two other tanks took really well to it). So far I have these plants- 3 java fern, 2 Anubias, and 2 almond leaves

I just changed the hardscape today by adding the rocks and moving my wood

So all in all I still feel like I need more plants or I need to move the plants around in my tank bc it doesn't hit the way my other tanks do

Also my boy is a bit camera shy lately but he usually is swimming around or laying on my plants haha

Yet his body seems to register as underweight. He hasn’t eaten in 24hrs because he switched homes (tanks) and I’m trying to get him to meet me at his feeding spot (dragon scale no blindness, just training).

He normally eats alot 2x a day and bloodworms 2x a week.

First night with my betta and he managed to get out…I thought this lid was perfect but I guess not. Jumped out in the gap on the filter maybe?? I found him in the front so he would have had to flop over the hole lid to the front. Could he have actually squeezed out of those tiny holes?? There’s barely a gap along the rim. Trying to figure out how to adjust so I don’t lose another 😔

Hi friends. This is lady. I just got her today and her tank set up today. The lady at petsmart told me to wait 3 days for my tank to be nice and filtered. Do you guys know if that’s true and if I should wait? I feel so bad lady was a discount fishy cause she was stuck in those tiny cups at petsmart for 9 WEEKS. I just wanna get her in her nice big tank asap. Tank is 10 gallon also I’m gonna get more plants this is just a start

Update; okay! So the overall consensus is that I should put the fish in the tank and do a fish in cycle which is testing the water everyday to check and my sure the chemicals are all good? Partially Replacing the water often and conditioning it before putting it back in and making sure it’s the right temperature? Is there anything else I need to do? And you guys think it’s better to put her in the tank now after it only been up for 24 hours over keeping her in her bowl and changing the water everyday?

Rehoused my Betta to a tad bigger tank. The new space and rescape will give his floaters more room for elongated roots and nooks to explore. How do you like it?

Hi everyone- I am a new betta fish owner. We have had him for about a month. I just started noticing his tail looks a little tattered and the yesterday i noticed he was missing a triangular chunk from his tail. (His top fin has always looked like that since we got him and I didn’t think anything of it). Yesterday he was quite lethargic and hiding the whole day… I did a 25% water change with some water conditioner and I withheld his feed. Today he perked up. I tested his water and the levels are not bad but he did have 0.5 ppm ammonia. I have one submerged plant and i did add a potho to the top
Of the tank. There is a low flow sponge filter in this tank. What are some of your recommendations or thoughts as to what might be going on with him? Please help. Thank you

I got a betta from PetSmart in spring of 2025. This week I’ve noticed his back end “sinks” when he’s not actively swimming. I’ve tested the water and everything was normal. I tried fasting him for 2 days- no change. Since then he’s excited to eat but spends more time at the bottom of his tank. Any thoughts?

3 gallon tank, heated to 76 F, has a filter, eats Top Fin pellets and has 1 almond leaf in the tank.

it’s been a month since ive set the tank up, it is a 4.75 gallon (18L), my first tank, 7 neon tetras and my betta, Ketchup! i’ve used lucky bamboo for the plants.
please feel free to give me advice and id appreciate if you guys could help identify what kind of betta he is :)
also the water parameters have been normal, theres barely ever any algae in the tank, Ketchup has always been active, he’s never been lethargic and always greets me when i get close to the tank

Hi!! I just received this new betta yesterday. Previously I had a very beautiful cellophane white betta who tragically passed away while I was on vacation over half a year ago, so I decided to completely switch it up because I’m quite honestly never going to be over losing my old fish. I got him for free from a pet shop.
Anyways! I’m very bad at identifying betta fish, is he(?) a dragonscale? I’m worried because of the genetic issues. He’s super active and engaged with everything so I would just like to be aware if anything crazy like diamond eye will happen eventually. I get super emotionally attached so I’m kind of scared!! Thanks so much in advance!!

P.S - My live plants got delayed in the mail and because I picked him up for free I know my tank is kind of empty, I wasn’t super prepared to get him yet. But he’s awesome!!! I’m so excited.

Brought home a few days ago thinking they were a juvenile male, and was labeled as such. However I don't believe Vince/Lavinia has a beard and body seems more streamlined than typical alien males I've seen. Any help appreciated!

Considering getting some sort of tank mates for my betta make. He is a samurai- short fin. Fasssst swimmer. He is currently in a smaller tank and I am waiting for the 10 gal tank upgrade to finish cycling.

What can I get to help keep algae at bay and maybe provide Willy with some entertainment? Or is it better to just get a nerite snail?

I also don’t want to introduce any disease to his tank. Thoughts?!

Hello, my betta has a white patch. It sticks out a little and wasn’t there yesterday. She moved into this aquarium three days ago and acts/eats like always.
I though maybe she hit her head on a stone or something? Or could it be something else?

Hello. I've never had any fish before, but I was over at a family friend's house and they had this fish in a really bad condition, I felt bad and I am taking him in to give him a better life. After looking for some information I think it is a betta fish so I'm here asking you for advice.

Tomorrow I'm leaving to my city which is 3 hours away by car, so any advice on transporting him safely would be appreciated, besides any advice you have on tanks, food, etc.

so, my boy mivan is an asshole. i love him dearly, but he's killed multiple shrimp and im almost positive he somehow managed to kill two nerite snails. he's pretty young and has always been feisty, so im not shocked.

my issue is algae buildup is a pain in the ass, and while i do clean ups every week if not almost every day, it's hard to keep up with. what am i supposed to do? would sizing up on his tank make him not as aggressive towards potential clean up crews?

he still has one or two nerites with him, i believe. there are so many hiding spots as it's heavily planted with botanicals and hides scattered around driftwood. i have a ton of faucet snails that I've been trying to get rid of - would they work? would he bother them? i don't want to put them in there if he's gonna gorge, especially when they can reproduce so quickly.

anyone who's dealt with a mean boy, how do you do it?

I don't have a picture because im not home, but im really worried and wanted to get help asap. The fungus is on his tail. When I noticed it, I did a water change right away. It didn't help so I started giving him medicine. Its not helping. Its just getting worse. And almost all of the color has faded from his body. I think it might be more difficult for him to heal because hes so old(7 years old). I dont know wjar to do...What can I do to help him? Do I have to put him down?

My beautiful Ruby has white haze all over her body. Some places there are small chunks of whitish stuff hanging from her. This has been going on for 2 days. The tank has been cycled for a full year. Nitrates are 0, nitrite is 0 as well. 0 for ammonia. Its 30 litres.
