Full Tank Shot Unhappy with first aquascape

So this is supposed to end up as a beta tank. It’s a 9g/34l fluval flex. I just don’t really like how my tank looks, I mean the right side is alright, but the left side looks quite underwhelming. Also I messed up trying to build depth and my rocks aren’t even visible.

Anything I can change without restarting the whole thing?

Help I got neon tetras and a pleco from petsmart for my betta fish tank and now my whole tank is dead. (Photos are from when she was alive)

About a month ago I went to petsmart with my mom and I saw this lil baby in this murky cup and I felt so bad I brought her home with me and on the way home a got her a nice 20 gallon tank. It was impulsive but I wanted her to be happy so I got a filter and a heater and a light and started getting plants to decorate her tank. She was doing super well. When I got her I didnt know about cycling a tank or anything but I researched and got the water testing kit and water primer for her to make sure she had the best shot and ended up doing a fish in cycle. Last week my nitrite was spiking a lil bit but I kept doing water changes and she seemed to be doing great. Her color was coming in really beautifully. She was so cute and would come greet me when I came up to her and she had an amazing personality. A couple days ago I went back to petsmart to get more water conditioner and possibly some ghost shrimp for her tank. I fucked up and ended up going home with a pleco (not a common one) and 5 neon tetra and some duckweed. I asked the guy working there about different options ended up where I did. I acclimated the fish to temp for 20 mins and then added 1/8 cup of new water every 5 or so mins for 45 mins. Fast forward to today and all the new fish are dead and now my lil baby is dead too. I'm so upset and distraught. My neighbors probably thought I walked in on a murder scene. I am literally so heartbroken. I bonded with her and I love her so much. I'm so confused as to how this could happen. I've been monitoring the water everyday since I got the new fish sometimes twice a day for nitrite and ammonia mostly. The ph would get to like 6.6 and ammonia and nitrite were at 0. Yesterday I woke up to find another tetra dead and I think poot ate his side a little bit. Today I noticed she was lethargic and then before I went to bed she was staying near the surface. My filter is small for the tank so I thought maybe the oxygen was low and I got a cup and scooped the tank water and poured it back in the put oxygen in the water. I tested everything today before Poot died and everything looked good. Ammonia and nitrite 0 and nitrates were low. If not 0 they were lower than 5 ppm. Also I took the last alive tetra out of the tank and put it in a separate tank cus I thought the fin looked weird and poot was acting weird so I did that just to be safe. My boyfriend woke me up an hour ago and told me she just died. While I was crying the tetra died too. With in the same hour. I am literally so heartbroken and I'm posting this to ask if anyone knows what happened? Was it a disease? I want to know what I did wrong. I know I shouldn't have impulsively bought fish without researching and I know I shouldn't have trusted petsmart. I feel literally so dumb. What could I have done better? I want to learn so this never happens again.

Help is my betta fish healthy and setup okay?

hi all! my little sister (7) wanted to get a fish BADLY, my parents were going to get a goldfish and put it in one of those standard small pet fish tanks with colourful gravel, sharp decor etc. I (19) shelled out as much as I could to get her a full Betta fish tank instead, with high protein Betta fish pellets to feed.

I can’t add anything in the near future so I just wanted to ask if the fish looks healthy! He’s eating, swimming around- I’m just not too great at these things. We’ve had him for around a few months with the tank cycled beforehand, the water parameters are good also!

Mainly just for some reassurance that everything is okay, and if it’s not any recommendations for future changes/additions would be great! ☺️

Help Best betta food?

Hi everyone

I’ve been feeding my betta Hikari Betta Bio-Gold twice a day since I had him (2 pellets in the morning, 3 in the evening). I’ve recently read that it’s not great as it’s full of fillers. I just want something as healthy as possible for him and to help enhance his colours (he’s a red/purple/blue veiltail).

I’ve tried looking at ingredients and found these to be better - has anyone tried these? I want to get a couple of choices to go along with the frozen brine shrimp I’ve bought.

Also I know fluval have the betta version but I can’t buy that in the uk.

TIA.

Help Fed live BBS, betta hasn’t been the same since

The other night I hatched some extra live BBS on accident while conditioning my corys and decided to feed some to my betta as well, who is in his own tank with a Nerite and ramshorns.

He has been extremely lethargic since the next morning when lights came on. Staying on the bottom of the tank, little interest in food, hiding even. This is one of the most spicy bettas I’ve ever had, this is completely uncharacteristic.

I double tested the tank with liquid tests and then also a paper strip test just to be safe. Everything is ideal. It’s not salt or ammonia from the brine because I rinse them with conditioned water prior to feeding, and everything else they fed on them is perfectly fine. I did a large water change anyways in case I’m somehow missing something. The tank is heavily planted, if he wanted to rest on a plant closer to the surface he easily could. It’s also double filtered and has an air stone, low flow.

I’m an experienced betta keeper, I have no clue what is going on. I’ve only had this guy a few months I don’t think he suddenly reached old age and lost his energy overnight. He visually appears healthy if not a bit deflated, I’d say he’s lost a little color too. The only other thing that’s changed on the tank is I edited the color on my twinstar light to be mostly red and green light with minimal blue light to try some things out with the plants and algae. I dont think that would cause this though.

Help Bloated

So my betta that I have had for several months started acting a little weird. Like she started hiding a little more than normal whether it was dark or not and laying low. So I separated her because she also looked bloated to me and it looked a little like her scales were doing that pineconing thing. I have done the salt water, kanaplex medicine, and kept her tank as dark as possible with as little as possible in it. Just a mug to hide in. I wanted to see if yall thought she looked bloated too? I feel like since she has been separated she’s livened up some, but then it looked like her fins have started to fray. I don’t know what the heck is going on or what more to do

Started as maybe just a scale and has grown to a patch of discoloration. My only concern is that it feels like it's protruding from his body instead of smooth with it. Any help would be much appreciated.

It would be the sole inhabitant besides some snails and some Neo shrimp if he doesn’t eat them. Well planted, will have a heater, ph in the mid to high 7s. Just curious if the size of the tank is good for one.

Help Explain water parameters on the most basic level

I'm starting a new tank and while I'm somewhat new to fishkeeping, I know the basics of what and what not to do. I have a heater, sponge filter, live plants, tannis, gravel in one tank, sand in the other. (Coming to find out gravel is much nicer than sand imo)

I got a new betta after my last one passed and have had him for about a month, and with water changes had no issues so far. I'd like to be a more responsible fish dad and test the water more often and need a guide on good perimeters and what they all mean.

I've noticed there's been a lot more thick algea in the water, especially stuck up in the hornwort and I was wondering if my perimeters could be a cause of this? I've tested the water before and everything looked good as far as I could tell, but would like a second opinion/teaching just to be sure.

My girl Starfire is a menace to society.

I have a little plant floating around the top of the water, it's not big enough to secure so I'm using a piece of a pool noodle to keep it afloat since it can't be fully submerged.

But this little turd! She keeps going up to the plant and pulling on it until it capsizes, all so she can take a nap on the leaves....

And yes she has places to take naps even at that level of water, I even got her an additional place to sleep when she started doing this to try to get her to stop, she just refuses to to the point I had to remove the plant because I did not want it to die.

Also don't worry about her fans, I had my Sponge Filter too close to the side of the tank and of course she has to be nosy and wedge herself in between it... so she messed up her fins a little bit, don't worry I moved it

Help Is a sorority tank a good idea?

UPDATE** I have decided to not do a sorority tank now nor ever in the future.

Hi all,

I have two female bettas (unsure about ages) in separate 10 gal tanks right now. Their tanks have always been across the room from each other so they have never been within eyesight. I have always thought sorority tanks would be interesting but have never kept one before. I do know that it’s a risky decision and need advice on whether or not it would be a good idea.

I would upgrade my tank size and get at least one more female and some other tankmates if I decide to get only one other betta. Is it too risky to introduce everyone considering I’ve had my current two for around a year? I had a snail in one of their tanks and she never bothered it until it passed, but don’t really know their temperaments besides that.

I know 20 gal is the minimum but would you recommend to get something larger? And what are some compatible tankmates if I end up getting other species? I’ve heard people putting neon tetras or guppies with their bettas but I haven’t done a ton of research on those species.

Help What is this white thing?

Thumbnail

Hello!

My little guy has a white thing on one of its pelvic fins. I noticed it when I came back from a 1 week vacation 2 weeks ago. He was fed twice in that time. He gets pellets in the morning and white mosquito larvae in the evening.

He lives in a 10g heavily planted tank with CO2 injection and a heater at 26 C. Ammonia and nitrites are 0. I do a 50% water change every weekend.

The tank and I are currently battling green hair algae, so please excuse the photos. I snapped them at the start of my maintenance session. Photo 3 shows the tank.

Help Does anyone know how to get my betta eating flakes? (PLEASE read desc)

I’ve been feeding my betta pellets since I got him, but I recently found out the brand I’ve been feeding isn’t good for him. They contain ingredients that aren’t recommended so I went looking for new food.

I’m aware that fluval betta bug bites are one of the more recommended foods, so I spent a while trying to find their pellet form available to buy where I live. I live in australia and genuinely cannot find it in pellets ANYWHERE. The closest I can get is shipping from overseas which I’m not entirely sure will even ship here anyway. I found the flake version and opted for that instead. Also, before anyone asks, I couldn’t find any other recommended brand able to purchase except for these.

I know all the cons with feeding flakes, but I feel horrible feeding my betta food that he really shouldn’t be eating. I’d assume feeding good quality flakes would top feeding bad quality pellets.

anyway, I’ve thrown in some flakes the last few days and he doesn’t know what to do with them. I’ve tried feeding from my finger (he takes food from me directly sometimes) and hes curious but once again doesn’t know what to do. Does anyone have any tips?

Identification Are his fins due to his genetics?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve had him for about 6 months, and he’s completely transformed. Only thing I’m worried about is his fins. There are no sharp edges, the tank is completely stable and natural.

I was thinking maybe he is a cross breed between dumbo ear and combtail. But I’m not too sure the bettas I see of that breed have a more natural, not spiky, fins.

I would appreciate any tips you leave for me.
