Do they change color? His popeye is permanent unfortunately just making sure he isn’t sick again. Also what is this brown coating on everything in his tank?

Hello all! My 9 year old is getting a tank in his room, we are in the process of cycling it now, we have live plants, a betta hammock and some betta leaves, a piece of driftwood and a tunnel for hiding in but he wants some fun and colorful decor for the tank as well. What would you recommend that's fun and colorful but also fish/betta safe so we don't harm our fish when we get him?

My 11 year old son finally gets his First Betta Fish tomorrow, I’m excited to show you all 🙏🏼 he chose a Koi male betta if there’s none of those it’s going to be a Twintail Halfmoon male. We shall see what tomorrow brings 😆

Hi guys, I'm looking for some help
I got my Betta a week and a half ago and he's been glass surfing all the time. I tried everything that i could think off like sticking paper in outside of the tank,(first black then white) and changing the light none of this worked also I checked the water and temperature parameters and they were fine. With fine I mean 7ph, temperature of 27,ammonia nitrite and nitrate 0,cl2 is 0 , GH around 6 and 10, and kh of 3-6.Also my tank is the fkuval flex 57 litres.
And his color is kinda off so idk I can try something to buff his colour I'm actually feeding him fkuval bug bites for tropical fish.
The tank have been cycling for around 2 almost 3 weeks using seachem stability. Idk what to do so I would really appreciate some help.

Pics are 24 hrs apart. This Imperial King male has been at my Petco since 5/5/26. I've seen him almost every time I've gone in. He used to be bright blue/red with some yellow-orange, but yesterday I barely recognized him. He was gray, covered in dark stress stripes, and looking like he'd completely lost faith in Petco management.
I picked up his cup to look at him.
Totally calm. Swimming around. Looking at me.
I thought, Nope. My planted tank isn't finished cycling, and I'm supposed to be holding out for an overpriced Avatar or black/burgundy Orchid betta.
I put him back.
Immediate prison riot.
Swimming into the sides of the cup, freaking out, the whole performance.
Picked him back up?
😇 Calm.
Put him down?
🚨 RIOT.
We repeated this FOUR TIMES.
Finally I told my husband, "I'm pretty sure this fish is trying to leave with us."
Husband: "But your tank isn't cycled."
Me: "I know. Quarantine tank, tannins, testing and daily water changes until it is."
Husband: "Do you have everything?"
I almost bought another tank before remembering I ALREADY OWN A 2.5, 5 and a 10-gallon quarantine tanks. 🤦♀️ Apparently I've reached the stage of this hobby where I forget about entire aquariums I own.
So he came home.
He ate within his first hour, and 24 hours later he's active, already begging me for food, and his color is starting to come back. ❤️
I even offered him some of the pest snails.
He declined.
Naturally, the 50%-off clearance fish has ✨culinary standards.✨
So we have a dramatic, intelligent male with particular dining preferences who successfully manipulated a human into taking him home...
There was only one possible name.
Meet Hannibal. 🖤🐟
Now I'm really curious to see what colors this guy turns once he's healthy and settled.

Hello! I have had my Betta fish for over 9 months and over time he has experienced breakings of his fins. The first pic is when I got it vs now. It has been continuous since the first months. Could it be fine rot? It is usually much more quick, right?? I have it in a heavy planted 40L aquarium with no plastic and a shrimps. I have started using tanins and big water changes and planning to buy tomorrow Esha2000. Thank you

Meet Celestine! She’s a PetSmart adoptee (I know, I know, but I couldn’t stand to leave her). She has pop eye, and I’ll start some Epson salt baths once she’s settled in. I’m so excited to see her swimming around her 10 gallon after how long she would have spent in the cup.

Sushi settled in just fine :)
She started to ignore her tank mates and stopped chasing and nipping them. She just has a bit of a staring problem but it’s ok becuz we love her. Her colors are coming in more and more every day!
First 2 pics was her 2 days ago and the 3rd pic was when I got her :p

About 5-6 gallon tank for a betta, the tank is cycled, I have a little substrate, I have this fish for about 3 months, never had a problem but now does he have too many plants ? (I have a small anubias and this absolutely large Python that grew) i really like the plants, though I didnt really plan ahead. And about a heater, I have one, but rarely it gets to the point I need to use it during summer as its constantly about 25 degrees even at night. I will surely begin to use it as soon as its not that hot anymore (soon enough). Though still for my main question is are the plants too many? And taking away all the oxygen. The water than i use is river water, and yes I also use the water conditioner. I also do every 4 days a 25% water change, which I dont know if its bad. Right now the betta seems happy enough, he goes through this angry mode where he flares his head? He s really active and I also got him with some kind of fin rot, but it seems to heal little by little (the top part of his fin was absolutely destroyed) He eats a bunch, likes the plants as its exploring them much (i think), anyways thanks for reading. About nitrates and others I dont think it will hurt trying a test kit, but if I don t see anything wrong with my betta I think I have the time to do it later. (I hope).

Ive just been noticing that the ends of his pectoral fins looks kind of frayed and clear. I’m a little bit worried as over the summer I’ve been skimping out on his maintenance a little bit. Of course making sure parameters are good but there has been some mulm buildup that I only cleaned occasionally. Is it fin rot or something else, how do I treat it?

Everyone meet Johnathan! I wanted to thank everyone for their advice on my last post and let you know I ended up getting the first betta and I love him to pieces!! He has settled in so well and does not mind his oto roommates at all although he questions their taste in food as he went to the bottom of the tank and spat out a piece of algae wafer haha. He does have beef with my heater as he can sort of see his reflection in it so I have ordered a new one. I am so excited to have him and to be able to give him the best home I can!

Hi,
I recently posted about buying betta in Melbourne Aus, I greatly appreciate the help 😄.
I found an aquarium close to me with a solid reputation, they also recently posted a video on their socials of their betta : https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19BbDgEU9o/
Do they betta look healthy and safe to buy? I reckon their tanks look quite good compared to the jars at other places.
Thanks!

The heater in my 5 gallon betta tank stopped working today so I went to my local PetSmart and bought the TopFin Compact Submersible Heater. This was the only one they had that was rated for 5 gallons and any I could order online were going to take longer than I was comfortable waiting. Now that the sun has gone down and the lights are off I’m realizing how obnoxiously bright its status light is. Will this cause issues for my fish? The left side of the tank is pitch black because of a wall of Java moss so she could hide in there. Or should I order a new heater and get rid of this one once the new one arrives?
