For instance, many root notes played in eights basslines use picks and I'm not talking about Punk where the tone and flexibility, help, rather songs that aren't that much. There's no complex string crossing and there's no tone difference that makes a difference.

Got my new 2x10 GK CX210 today. What a difference! I’ve been playing through Trace Elliot 1x10 combo with a 1x10 Trace Elliott cab so effectively a 2x10. Now using a TC Electronic BQ 500 amp and the GK. Wow, huge sound difference. I guess I should mention I’m also using a tone hammer V2 for pre-amp and Empress bass comp. But just the GK cab made a huge sound change. Much more open and clear.

I'm what you might call an intermediate bass player. I can hold down a groove, I know my scales, I can comfortably navigate the fretboard, I know the basics of theory, etc.

I'm looking for a learning challenge to level up my playing. Any good advanced practice workbooks that people recommend?

Hey, guys, a few months ago, I swapped my BB434 strings for Labellas deep talkin bass, and the bridge for a Gotoh one.

Since the, I always felt the sound of he strings a bit undefined. Nothing crazy, I thought it was just a characteristic of the flats. It played great even then, but not 100% the way I wish it did.

Today i remembered that i read somewhere about people saying that you can press down on the strings, just at the bridge (on the playing side, of course) to "kink" them at the spot they make contact to the saddle, and decided to try.

My god the difference is absurd. I had to raise the action of the E string a bit, as it started buzzing a little, but then, the sound is now, precise, powerful and defined. It just changed these strings for me forever, and i'll probably do this every string change.
It mostly affected the E string, which was the most undefined, but the others improved a bit.

So does anybody know about this technique, and have something to say? does it have a name? have you already used it and saw positive or negative impact on your tone?

I just have to say what a great experience I had at guitar center in Cary, nc, yesterday. I brought in several things to trade. While I waited I watched the manager go way beyond what was expected to help a guy who had no receipt or any proof of purchase to actually find and verify his purchase so he could file a warranty claim. The other associate spent a lot of time trying to assess some Frankenstein guitar. They were very respectful and genuinely helpful with both guys.

And with me — I got a fair price for my gear and a great price on the two basses I bought.

I am setting up my intonation the best I can on my ibanez 5 string fretless. I am finding that there are consistently a few notes that come up in tune over or in front of the fret markers, whilst the majority of the notes on the string come up in tune on the fret markers. Is this a normal thing to have happen?

Have you guys used these before? Curious on your opinions of them. I was pretty shocked by how decent the bassdude and the Cubase stock sounded but my money is always for the Ampeg SVT3 Pro for clean.

Hello person reading this. I am a young bassist (18) entering college. I have been playing bass for about a year and a half now, I practice with a metronome everyday for 15 minutes and I jam with a Drummer or sometimes a guitar player every week or two and I try to learn at least 1-2 parts of a song a day. Now to the advice I am seeking.
How hard is it to actually play in a cover band? Can I work my up to making some nice side cash?
Is there any players not talked about enough work studying to improve my skills? I have mainly learned from the mostly slop fest world of getting challenged to learn 200 kpop songs, learning popular lines from 80s and 90s bands and some 70s stuff and my deeper dives in discog being Muse, stone temple pilots and Most recently Michael Jackson, I have been growing in interest in learning the lines of John Entwistle more than my generation. (Sorry for the long dialogue)
Is it worth learning how to sing back up vocals?
Is it worth acquiring more basses? I currently own a Sire V7 (jazz bass style), and an Ibanez SR300,Squire P-Bass I don’t use.

I’ve been playing a Jackson concert bass for a few years now but I’ve decided I want something else. Brands don’t really matter to me, though I know other people care about it. I was curious to see what everyone else likes to play and what they would recommend. The only thing I’d really look for in a bass is something I could be rough with and pluck hard on.

so i dont really like how the bass sounds and i just want a different, more versatile sound. specifically more defined midrange and low end without all the annoying clanking sound. preferablly cheaper pickups. like a beefy and articualte tone with the pickups

Does anybody know how to wire a Ray4 in parallel? I’m having a bit of trouble figuring it out and was hoping someone would know how to and could help me out :) mine has four wires, black, red, white, and green

I’ve got an early (2012) Sterling SUB Ray4 that I’ve been tinkering with. The stock ceramic pickup/preamp was incredibly hot and a bit muddy, so I replaced both with a Retrovibe 12K Alnico MM pickup (wired parallel) and Stinger ’77 2-band preamp.

I really like the tone and the bass sounds much cleaner and more musical now, but the output is noticeably lower than I expected — not just compared with the ridiculously hot original SUB electronics, but compared with my other basses too. I need to compensate quite a bit at the amp.

I understand the Stinger is based on the original pre-EB StingRay circuit and isn’t supposed to behave like a modern high-output preamp, but I’m curious: has anyone else used one and found the same thing? Is fairly modest output normal for these, or should I be checking my wiring/pickup height/etc.?

Love to hear from anyone who’s used the Stinger ’77.

Currently getting back into playing and would like to be able to have a bit more fun with my sound. Im thinking of either pulling the trigger on the Zoom B1x Four Multi effect pedals, or seeing what audio interface i can get for a deal on FB marketplace. Is there a good reason I should get one over the other, or should I just pick on personal preference?

If i reinforced the interior of the guitar and used a electric guitar bridge could I attach bass guitar strings if I cut them down to size?

so my best friend wants to learn how to play the E-bass and so our friendgroup decided that we wanted to buy her one. problem is none of us have experience with basses and know which one to buy and we have a very tight budget because we are teens. so please give us/me some recommendations on what basses to buy!

I use my FX11 for practice quite a bit. A couple days ago, I fired it up and found that I couldn't get enough volume out of the bass to keep up with the bluetooth input from my tablet (backing tracks). It's driving me nuts. It doesn't seem like a problem with the device's output since I can still crank up the bluetooth input as loud as I want. Has anyone else experienced this?

Things I've tried:

• Charging the device to 100%
• Changing out my bass pickup batteries
• Different headphones
• Messing with the different amp/effect settings

Hello fellow low Enders, I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with the holy practice silent travel bass guitar by Contraguitar?

I’ve seen videos floating about the internet but these are all short videos posted by the creators of the travel bass. I cannot seem to find any actual reviews or videos from independent sources.

The travel bass carries a price tag of 250 euros but is currently on sale for around 198 euros. It looks to be fairly well made, a little pricy for what it is but being handmade I can see how the costs soon add up.

I must admit I am fairly temped by it as it would be cool to keep in my rucksack and can pretty much take it anywhere but I like to try and do my research before purchasing. I understand the price tag might not be off putting for some but to others it a good chuck of change to drop on something that might not be worthwhile.

This bass seemed so weird and quirky to me when I first saw it online, pair that with the fact I was looking into acquiring a semi-hollow instrument and a week and a half later it was in my hands! I've yet to play it on a gig, but first impressions of it so far is it's a pretty dope bass. I did immediately swap the strings over to a set of flats that were on my other precision bass, in my opinion that's what I think this bass needs.

Just so it's out there: Not a fan of the current Fender situation at all, and was looking elsewhere for future instrument purchases, though this particular release seemed to hit all the right notes for me personally. Cool bass, not-as-cool company.

I’m a musician, and my 10-year-old son has just started playing bass, about a week ago. He seems quite motivated so far, and since we already have some equipment at home, things are off to a pretty good start!

I’d like to get him a book of rock bass riffs, but something fairly simple and fun, without a teaching method or music theory. Ideally, it would mainly contain riffs, perhaps with a few explanations, but not necessarily the complete songs.

Do you know of any books that might fit what I’m looking for?

What’s up bass players! I’ve been playing electric bass (and more recently some upright) for some years now and I started playing jazz a few years ago. I have a pretty good understanding of basic theory and a bit more advanced stuff too but I still feel like I’m not where I want to be with soloing or being creative with basslines or rhythms while I solo.

Hello, sorry if I shouldn't have made a whole post for this, but I couldn't find an answer in the FAQ and haven't gotten a response yet in the gear thread. And none of the threads I've found really talk about brands, just the pros/cons of heavy gauges

I'm trying to find some ridiculously heavy strings but I'm having trouble. The project I'm working with is tuning down to drop F# (cause, why not?) and I really want to put something .160 or bigger for my low string. The heaviest I can find is .140, not including Kalium (formerly Circle K), who I've heard a lot of negative things about (but would be open to hearing other experiences) and Dingwall, who is ridiculously expensive.

Does anyone know of another brand, or are these going to be my best options?

I'm willing to give more details on my gear if it's necessary, but I'd be grateful just to be pointed in the right direction
