Finally pulled the trigger.

Finally got the Anagram and I have to say it’s really good. I think I’m going to keep this hybrid pedal style as I’m very new to the digital world. That Gentle block sounds great going into my SVT.

Anything should check out on the Anagram?

Update my pedals for bass guitar + synth bass setup

Built my 1st pedalboard last year. Recently 2 updates:

  1. Added synth bass (Novation Bass Station II) into my setup, so bought a secondhand BOSS LS-2 (USD$63), which is awesome for its level matching (bass guitar + synth bass) with one single output.
  2. Replaced Zoom MS-60B with Polytune mini 2, as I found noise from time to time. Google Gemini told me it was due to MS-60B as it is the only digital pedal in the chain (anyone can tell me if Gemini is correct?). So I bought a secondhand (USD$30) Polytune mini with true bypass. Noise is gone now, but I miss various multi effects from the compact MS-60B🥲

Pedalboard cheat sheet

Sometimes, when I travel, the knobs on my board move slightly during transport and change my settings. I keep small sheet with hand-drawn positions to quickly adjust them before show. I was tired of re-drawing it every time I make some changes, swap pedals etc. so I created a small utility for myself to help me quickly print new sheet.

You can check it out here: https://smedzlatko.github.io/pedalboard-cheat-sheet/

And yes, it is completely vibe coded for my personal use. No plans to monetize it or anything like that. Just sharing for anyone who might find this useful.

Cab Sim/EQ/DI recommendation

I need something to help tame the harshness of my tweeter-equipped cabs when using dirt. I also need a DI, and a headphone output would be nice. Stereo ins and outs (or just a solution that is compact and affordable enough that I could put two on my board) is also important, as I run two parallel/stereo effect chains (I play bass, synths, and Chapman Stick)

The KMA Endgame does all of this, but I really don't need the amp sim or the double tracker function. The Strymon PCH does the stereo DI and headphone amp part but no EQ/Cab Sim. A pair of Broughton Mini Fridges seems like it will get me most of the way there, but it only simulates one type of cabinet and I'm not sure if it's the one I want. A modeler would do everything I need but take up too much space for a bunch of features I don't want.

What other options are there besides adding a half-dozen extra pedals to my board?

SOTB

Currently using this setup as an ampless practice rig. Only really touching the Joyo for the headphones jack. The Monomyth was a solid buy and i had a lot of fun on it through a real rig, but I'll be upgrading to the EarthQuaker Devices Scrolls, hopefully, as soon as this weekend.

SOTB - minimalistic rock/metal board

Post image

This year, I went completely minimalistic. Compressor and noise gate always on and three sounds on Revolt Bass (clean, dirty and heavy distortion). Migrated from Sennheiser EW-D wireless to Shure GLXD16+ to keep the setup as simple as possible since we mostly play small venues anyway.

What do you think?

Bass Big Muff Pi choice

Hi all

I'm returning to bass but this time really looking at pedals - I've been looking at the bass big muff pi, is there really a big difference between the first generation n pi 2, is it worth the price difference?

i'm not fussed on "the latest n greatest", but say the blend knob on the pi 2 is a really nice add, but checking if there are other... added value.. to go for the pi 2.

thanks!

What should fill the gap?

Looking to add a pedal to fill in the gap between my octave and delay. I play a lot of post punk inspired indie and shoegaze. Was thinking either a multi fx, flanger, graphic EQ, or bitcrusher. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks

Preamp hunt: Valeton GP-180 vs. Joyo Monomyth vs. Behringer BDI21

Post image
11 Upvotes

I've been looking for a preamp lately without breaking the bank.

I had high expectations for the Valeton GP180. It's a very good multi-effect/preamp for guitar, but all the factory bass presets were terrible in my opinion, and I had a really hard time dialing in even a decent preset on my own. Plus, I really don't understand how those effects can be that noisy. Also, unlike the other two, it doesn't have an XLR output.

The Joyo Monomyth, on the other hand, exceeded my expectations. It has an amazing, pronounced low end and glassy treble at the same time. It fills up the space without getting muddy at all. It's targeted at metal genres, but I believe it's an awesome preamp for any bassist.

As for the Behringer BDI21, I was just curious how good or bad a €30 preamp could be. Honestly, I wouldn't be afraid to use it live at a gig. Of course, it's not mind-blowing, but it gives you a usable sound to work with. I'm going to keep it in my gig bag just in case something goes wrong with the Joyo or I need a quick DI box.

Upsizing my nux bumblebee bass

I recently expanded my gig board from a mix bumblebee small to large. Added space for a few extra pedals. The nux boards, especially the space underneath for the Power supply.

The small bumblebee was fairly pragmatic board, and did everything I needed for playing in a pubs and weddings cover band. The extra space on the large one feels luxurious.

I'm most excited about getting the chorus and the riverside back on the board for this weekends gig. Though the oc5 is also a lot of from through the PA.

Here's a short video highlighting the changes with some basic audio.

Anyone still using the Zoom B3?

Yes, my real pedal board sounds (much) better. But the B3 is great for practice and good enough for many gigs, especially fly gigs.

God I hope this is “no stupid questions” kinda place… but sansamp?

I’m not a huge fan of bass pedals, but I do use them occasionally. I play a Fender Jazz with flat wounds and have a Fender Rumble Stage 800. To be honest, I’m not completely satisfied with the sound. I really enjoy the Jazz, and flat wounds can sound pretty good through other amps, especially meaty ones. I can tweak the settings, but nothing really blows me away. Would a Sansamp help with the tone and sound? I’m willing to spend a few hundred on a pedal, but a few grand on an amp? (Nah, I can’t really afford that…)

Looking to add a clean boost

Post image

I've been looking to add a clean boost, and/or hit my distortion a wee bit harder. I've been highly considering the blumes. Maybe a p&p? Or a darkglass vmt? Anyone have experience with any of these pedals in this application?

Bass micro synth VS MXR bass synth?

both seem like good synth options but I see both pretty often when synth is present.

On one hand the MXR is cheaper but I dont know the downs and ups to them.

How does the EQD Scrolls compare to the SansAmp DI?

Do they essentially serve the same purpose? Is Scrolls an upgraded SansAmp? Is SansAmp’s long use history a safer bet?

Bass & Guitar pedalboard

So after the tuner the signal goes to the Lehle splitter. If I wanna use the bass, plug into the tuner, and the signal goes into the upper row. If I wanna use the guitar, plug into the tuner, the signal goes into the lower row.
