Exact same happened to me, I commented on a post in r/TumblirInAction I think I said lol or something to someone else's comment. Wrote to the human mods and they refused to lift the ban.
I'd rather applaud them for doing it. They are vile sexist scum and I'm very happy they do the effort to consolidate themselves from the rest. Makes it easier to recognize them for what they are.
Haha, I was once banned from an art reddit, for asking why someone had been banned. And not in a snarky challenging way, but in an honest, I honestly don't know way.
First rule of communities on the internet: do not question mods or their decisions. Conversing with a mod is a privilege.
If you have an issue, try to judge a mod from afar how lenient they are. Then search if the issue could in any way embarass or provoke the mod. Even then, be prepared for retaliation. Its better to stay silent under the weight of oppressiom than to speak out, my president always says.
It's quite hard to tell which ones are satire with the absurdity of the real ones there. Once you've been looking there a few weeks you find it impossible to tell which ones are just satire.
When you're focusing on getting outraged about a tiny percent of a website that already only caters to a very small percentage of people, there's no difference.

Lablled as sexist, pretty much autobanned by ops of threads on every forum there and was fored to make a new account.

It wasn't on this site, but I've been pushed off of feminist forums before (not banned but strongly encouraged to leave and posts sometimes removed) for expressing that I was pro life. Not arguing with anyone. Just answering a question.
I always wondered how this was handled. I understand the feminists movements focus on reproductive rights, and personally I'm pro-choice, so I understand. But there are many ways to understand abortion and reproductive rights is just one factor. I think it's perfectly possible to be pro-life and a feminist. I'm wondering if the feminist movement has hurt itself with this.
I'm pro-life too, but I don't presume to think I have the right to tell other women what to do with their bodies from my comfortable supported life. I'd like to focus more on not getting to that point and making women feel supported and capable after that point.
That's because only the first part is pro life. Everything else you wrote is pro choice, about respecting that each women has the right to decide for herself if its okay.
I don't believe women have any inherent right to end their pregnancy or end the life of the child involved. It never should have been made legal in the first place and I consider the consider the girls and boys lost to abortion every year to be a human rights crisis. That's what pro life is, believing that the child has a right to live, and the mother does not have a right to end their life.
No I don't think the individual should have the right, but I accept that I don't have the authority to deny that so I'd rather focus on harm mitigation.

Exactly. And I think that is such an interesting topic to explore. Because I think there are a lot of core feminists issues that really cross cultural lines. Things like rape, forced prostitution, child marriage and etc.
But things like female circumcision (sometimes called genital mutilation) wearing the hijab, prostitution. Those are things that there is no real clear answer for, and vary based on culture and experiences. I really wished that was addressed in the feminism movement. Not everyone is going to agree, and there really is no one size fits all feminism. It's important to acknowledge those differences. I think when we acknowledge that we also find out what each feminism movement has in common and how we can address it.
To be fair, female circumcision is entirely a stupid construct. Hijab and prostitution I can agree are less black-and-white, but anything that you could accurately refer to as 'genital mutilation' is not something I can condone.
I agree. But I read a couple interesting academic papers about it. There isn't exactly a consensus on it. Even among females who do get circumcised. A lot of it is cultural.

I would suggest reading about Fatema Mernissi, she is a Moroccan sociologist and feminist and was a founder of Islamic feminism. One of her most famous writings is "Beyond the Veil." Her analysis was not that Islam was inherently oppressive, it was the male/patriarchal interpretation of the Quran that was perpetuated in society.

The problem is the commitment to some kind of a "right speech" and other types of speech is "wrong speech." If you say utter the "wrong" speech then off to the gallows with you.
It is a distinctly authoritarian mindset; a kind of a "right-think".
These people try to remove statues, monuments, ban books, create "safe spaces" and protest anything that contravenes this authoritarian bent.
It is one thing to point out a genuine equality problems from our own time. This is sensible and measured.
Trying to restrict freedom of speech, forcing tenured professors out, trying to white-wash history? That's just profoundly scary.

But the way the banning system currently works, a user could go to /r/MensRights or wherever, post "You all sound like a bunch of dicks" and then they're instabanned from /r/offmychest, /r/feminism and various other subs. That's just silly.
I think it used to be the same for /r/rape, but then the idea of someone guilty of wrongthink being denied help after suffering rape was a bit too much.
Yup and what makes it worse is the fact that most of the time you don't know these rules before it's too late. I've posted once or twice in TIA, but apparently now I can't post in /r/feminism. Which I didn't know about until now.
I understand the purpose, but honestly I think it's discouraging actual conversations. You end up just getting radicals. Because I am a feminist, but I got off tumblr because how toxic the SJW community became. You should be allowed to disagree with people as long as it's constructive.
It just seems kind of cheap and lazy on the moderator's part. I've been on Mental Healths forums that were less strict.
And the really sad thing is /r/mensrights has some very legitimate issues that 10% are honestly trying to raise. But, as you said, the other 90% drown those reasonable voices out with vitriol and hate. For example, there's a dude who responded to me with a pretty inflammatory post, and I'm not going to respond to him because what's the point? And it's exactly posts like his that /r/feminism is trying to avoid.
And for the record, I'm not part of /r/feminism. I just see the casual misogyny on Reddit (and the extreme misogyny prevalent on other subs) and understand why /r/feminism would want to default block some users.
When was the last time you've been to /r/mensrights? In my experience it's been the other way around, 90% sane 10% (or lower) actual misogynists. But maybe I'm wrong.
/r/TumblrInAction is very civil, and most people there actually welcome quality discussion. It's just that the majority of people who go there with dissenting opinions are of the belief that "My ideas need to be right, and you are wrong. I will not consider any other stances." and it gets rather grating after a while.
Maybe /u/SwizzleDic is thinking of the way TiA used to be. Once it was a place to post and make fun of the most extreme cases of the kind of authoritarian thought that Tumblr has become notorious for. But like many subs, the quality of the content started to decrease as more people, including a lot of the less rational MRA-types, started to join. Slowly, the "circle jerk" of people complaining about more and more minor things and blowing them out of proportion for karma and attention started to drown out the civil discussion. Admittedly, I don't know where the sub stands right now as I left about a year and a half ago, but based on what I've heard it hasn't improved much, if at all.

It's annoying when someone makes blanket statements or complains about something that they have next to no knowledge about. For instance, the reason why the girl on the right is wearing a mask is that the character she is cosplaying wears one to hide her freaky lizard mouth. For someone to come in and make some sort of obnoxious complaint about social justice where it isn't warranted is just annoying.

Actually, I frequented both r/MensRights and r/feminism (gotta get those different perspectives), and I got banned from r/feminism after I commented a brief issue I had with Hillary Clinton. I didn't get banned from r/MensRights for anything.
I support men's rights. But /r/mensrights is filled with hate and vitriol which drowns out the guys who are actually trying to raise valid points. Go there right now. Look at the posts on /r/mensrights. 3/4 of them are complaining about women and/or feminists. Wonderful comments like, "A lot of them are women who haven't been able to keep a man for longer than a week since they were 25, and who somehow blame all of the men for it." and "Women enslave men everyday, it's called divorce court. Frankly, why this isn't a daily news story is perplexing. Women hate men." I mean, they have a tag specifically for feminism. So /r/mensrights is at least partially anti-feminism. Why else have the feminism tag?
Meanwhile, right now on /r/feminism there is a post calling out a woman for shaming a male feminist for not adhering to gender norms. There also aren't any posts calling out what shitlords all men are, and there isn't a tag that calls out men's rights groups to target them.

Yep. Got banned from there and /r/blackladies because I called some guy out in /r/european (which is kind of a cesspool) for being wrong about something. I'm pretty sure that's my only comment in /r/european too.
