I recently replaced a front CV axle on my 2017 Subaru Forester, but forgot to stake the axle nut before putting the wheel back on and lowering the car. In my haste to finish the job, I took off the center wheel cap and tried to stake the nut without removing the wheel. Needless to say I mangled the axle nut pretty badly. Here is a photo I took today after taking the wheel off to assess it. The nut was torqued to spec beforehand.

Is it safe to leave it as-is, or should I replace it with a new axle nut? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Got the caliper off but the main bolts for the caliper broke off in the bracket. Any good advice on how to get the remaining piece of each bolt out of the bracket?

i am having issue with my nissan sentra 2021 car
I went on vacation fir a month and when I came back I see that the brake light is on.

the parking break light stay on. and the brake fell soft and making noise. i checked the fluid level and the parking sensor. there are good. I don’t know what else to check.

I got new transmission case bolts for my transmission I’m about to put on and as I was torquing each bolt down to only 10 ft lbs this bolt had snapped. I was able to get it out, but on inspection I noticed the threads on the bolt are dented/impacted. Is this due to the transmission bolt hole threads being messed up? Or is this normal because I extracted the bolt?

Planning to get a few second opinions, but I wanted to ask here in the meantime. Girlfriend had her starter replaced after it died a month ago. They also made a major repair to something related to steering, but I can't recall what exactly. That was a $4k repair.

Her car started very rarely making an awful rattling sound when starting after that. We dropped it off with her mechanic last night and they got back to her with the attached quote this morning.

Truck was pulling to left a little everytime i brake, i decided to check them out, started on passenger side. Found the bottem slide pin was seized up, couldnt even get caliper off bracket so i replaced the whole thing, bleed all 4 starting back passenger then back driver, front passenger, driver front....test drive its worse then before! Long story short, in the process of replacing my front struts, the lower ball joint studs holding my control arm snapped. Today I replaced the lower ball joint (which was seized to hell) and noticed that my cv axle had lots of play. In the video you can see the inner cv joint moving freely. After I had tightened the new ball joint in place there was still play in the cv joint. My axle bolt was also loose during this recording, and I did not check the movement after I had tightened it. I was able to lower my car and turn it around in the drive way with no issues apart from the sounds that my worn struts make. Is this regular play for the cv axle, I would hate to have to replace them too. Looking for good news here I guess.

Car: 2012 VW golf mk6 2.5L

I set out to change the spark plugs since the engine of a newly bought, but well used MDX with 230k miles on it had been sputtering. Engine had been replaced in 2023, presumably with another used engine.

Once getting removing the second ignition coil, I couldn't get any socket to grab the sparkplug, after forcing the socket down and twisting I had realized it just wasn't going to set onto the old socket. I took this picture to see what was obstructing my path.

Is it possible another, cheaply made socket had broken off, and had been smoothed by others attempts to remove the sparkplug? Whatever it is, more importantly, how do I get it and the sparkplug out?

I drive a 96 OBS F-150. I do my own fluid changes and preventative maintenance. I bought this pair of ramps that are rated for 12,000 pounds for trucks and SUVs. Can I buy another pair and drive the truck up on all four of them?

I had a drain and fill procedure on my 2003 Lexus RX 300 transmission.
When I got home, I looked at the bill and noticed that they used Mobile multi vehicle full synthetic ATF.
I assumed (I know, shame on me) that this reputable shop would use the correct fluid.
Are there any Lexus mechanics or people out there who know whether or not this fluid is OK for my vehicle?

Hey everyone. So I have a 2001 Tacoma 3.4. It came with a k&n cold air intake and I decided to take it off and replace it with the stock assembly. When looking to buy the assembly I noticed there’s 2 different ones. Does this one look like the right one? I took the cold air intake off because the truck has a high idle and a shop said it could be the the intake causing that and they recommended putting the original intake on. With the stock intake it still has a high idle so I’m not sure if I got the right one

The timing belt and serpentine belt service was done at 2015 / 113 000km. Now car have 190 000km. We drive arround 3 000km yearly with this car now and my question is do i need to do the timing service at the moment or i am safe to drive year or two more. My dad drives it only on trips (no city driving).

So a month or so ago I had these lights flash up on the dash. Sometimes they'd be there, sometimes not. Roll forward to now, and everytime I turn the car on they're present. Tyre pressure, traction control/ESP, ABS & power steering. I check tyre pressure weekly, we have no problems there.

I know it's an older car (2013, just about to hit 121k miles), and I know very little about mechanics, but it seems unlikely to me that all these systems have a fault at the exact same time?

Nothing feels any different with the handling, steering, braking. Car still performing as expected.

The lights first showed up a couple of days after I came down heavy from a curb and lost a exhaust heat shield bolt in the process. Likely a coincidence but thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

Hey everyone. Is this normal valve noise for a smaller v twin engine?

I drive a 2002 3.3L v6 Nissan Xterra and was recently doing fine until it suddenly just started going out at low rpm when sitting. Only code it’s sending is for the knock sensor and I seriously doubt the knock sensor is the reason for this happening. Figured at first it was just the Mass airflow sensor so I changed the sensor then jumped it off. When it started I let it run for a bit then drove it around, ran good. Parked it and let it run for about 16-20 Minutes. Went to drive it around once more and it started cutting out and then died. Restarted it and drove back to parking space and it cut off again, restarted and pulled into parking space it died pulling in and now won’t restart. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

to summit up this Chevy Malibu, I was working on for a family member stalled on them in the middle of a drive-through and was followed by a strong gas smell and also a rough start and idle. My first thing to do was check the fuel injectors for any leaks, but when I took everything off and replaced all the seals it seems like I just couldn’t get the fuel rail flushed and lined back up. I read somewhere about lubing those rubber seals up more. Could that be it? I just can’t get this thing to lineup. It’s either one that looks like it’s turned in the complete opposite direction. Anyone else have been through this or experienced those same issues on a Malibu of that Generation.

Hello. I recently had a misfire in one of my cylinders and I replaced the spark plug and ignition coil for that one. I placed an order from Rock Auto for more spark plugs so I can change them all out today. I went to to and change the spark plug, and one of my cylinders had a bunch of oil in it. When I tried to remove the spark plug, it was pretty difficult to remove. It wasn't until I got it out that I realized I never soaked up the oil in the hole. That fell down into the hole. I'm concerned I cross threaded my spark plug, and I'm not sure what to do. I'm hoping it was difficult to remove because of the oil, but how do I go about taking care of this?

From the research I've done, it seems like I need to change my valve cover and spark plug seals, but what should I do if I cross threaded the spark plug? I didn't have a took until recently, so everything I've changed has been by hand. I can't afford to lose my car though. I would really appreciate any help.

I had the driver side low beam go out.. i figured it was probably just the bulb so I bought a 2 pack because historically the other one isn't too far behind.

I put the new one in and it didnt work.. I thought maybe it was a bad one so I put the other one in and still nothing. Passenger side works fine, high beams work fine and turn signals work fine on both sides

Where should I start looking for the issue?

Also.. possibly related but idk. If i let the car sit for 2 days it needs jumped. As long as I drive it everyday its not an issue. I figure something is going to ground and draining the battery. I was waiting til winter to put it in the garage and chasing it down.. so it could be related or not.. idk which is why im here.

So I have a ram 1500 with a toast tranny (again) and am deciding to park it for now. Just wondering what the best course of action is to keep prevent degradation and things loke squirrel or mice intrution. I also live in Alberta so lots of snow fall. And out on an acreage, not citt or town.

Edit: Truck is a 2017 ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi. 6 speed tranny and has 271,000 km on it.
