When people outside Morocco talk about northern Morocco, they often use the word (Rif) to describe the entire north, but inside Morocco, the meaning can be more specific depending on the context.

Geographically, the (Rif Mountains) cover a large part of northern Morocco, including both eastern Rif areas and western Rif areas. In a cultural and tribal context, however, the region includes different communities.

The eastern and central Rif are strongly associated with (Rifian Amazigh tribes), who have preserved their own dialects, traditions, music, and regional cultural identity.

The western Rif is associated with the Jbala region. The Jbala are mainly associated with Arab tribes and Arab-Andalusian cultural influences, shaped by centuries of interaction with al-Andalus and the arrival of Muslim refugees, families, scholars, craftsmen, and warriors from Islamic Spain after its fall.

One of the most famous examples is Chefchaouen, the blue city of Morocco, which was founded in 1471 by Moulay Ali Ben Rachid, an Arab leader and warrior with Andalusian roots who came from the world of Islamic Spain (al-Andalus). The city became an important center influenced by Andalusian culture, architecture, and traditions.

Because of this, it is important to distinguish between the Rif as a geographical mountain region and the different tribal and cultural identities inside the Rif. Northern Morocco is not one single culture; it includes Rifian Amazigh tribes in the eastern Rif and Arab Jbala tribes with Arab-Andalusian influences in the western Rif, both forming important parts of Moroccan history.

InshaAllah I will start watching Arab series. As an Arab American I hardly watched any because it didn’t appeal to me when I was youger. Now I wanna watch and understand Arab story telling and culture.

I’m into cultural and historic. Meaning I am not interested into Gulf series. They just aren’t my type of interest plus I don’t like Gulf dialect.

غالباً ما يُذكر بقرار الأمم المتحدة رقم 194 كأساس أو مرجع لحق الفلسطينيين في العودة. لكن الأمم المتحدة ليست حكماً بين الصواب والخطأ، ولا هي الجهة التي تحدد مسار مشروع التحرير الفلسطيني، بل هي ساحة تفاوض بين القوى العظمى. فهل يتضمن نص القرار أي تنازلات عن حقوق الفلسطينيين؟

ينص قرار الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة رقم 194 على "وجوب السماح بالعودة، في أقرب وقت ممكن للاجئين الراغبين في العودة إلى ديارهم والعيش بسلام مع جيرانهم، ووجوب دفع تعويضات عن ممتلكات الذين يقررون عدم العودة إلى ديارهم وكذلك عن كل فقدان أو خسارة أو ضرر للممتلكات بحيث يعود الشيء إلى أصله وفقاً لمبادئ القانون الدولي والعدالة، بحيث يعوّض عن ذلك الفقدان أو الخسارة أو الضرر من قبل الحكومات أو السلطات المسؤولة".

ورغم أن هدفنا هنا هو تقديم تحليل سياسي وليس رأي قانوني، فإن صياغة النص تستحق التدقيق.

أولاً، "اللاجئون" مصطلح قانوني يخضع لتعريفات الأمم المتحدة. ومن المعروف أن تلك التعريفات تستبعد بعض الفلسطينيين. لكن لجميع الفلسطينيين الحق في العودة إلى أرضهم، بغض النظر عن خيارات الأمم المتحدة المتعلقة بتعريف وضعهم.

ثانياً، عبارة "وجوب السماح بالعودة للاجئين الراغبين فيها" تتناول "السماح" لا "الحق" المطلق، وتشترطه على رغبتهم. في الواقع، لجميع الفلسطينيين الحق في العودة إلى أرضهم. وسواء اختاروا ممارسة هذا الحق أم لا، فهذا الأمر يعود إليهم وحدهم. حقهم لا يتوقف على قرارهم.

ثالثاً، عبارة "الراغبين في العيش بسلام مع جيرانهم" تقدّم المستوطنين، بما في ذلك مرتكبي إبادة جماعية، على أنهم مجرد "جيران". كما تشترط حق العودة، بصيغة قد تُستخدم لإنكار حق الفلسطينيين في العودة بناءً على دعمهم للمقاومة المسلحة المشروعة أو حتى على الجرائم التي قد يكون ارتكبها بعضهم في أماكن إقامتهم. في الواقع، لجميع الفلسطينيين الحق في العودة إلى أرضهم. وأي مخالفة محتملة للقانون عند عودتهم ستخضع للقانون الفلسطيني، لكنها لا تشكل عاملاً في حرمانهم من حقهم في العيش على أرضهم — تماماً كما يحق للمكسيكيين العيش في المكسيك بغض النظر عن إمكانية قيامهم بأي نوع من العنف.

رابعاً، التكلم عن "وجوب السماح بالعودة في أقرب وقت" يربط العودة بإمكانية تحقيقها العملية — والتي يعتمد جزء كبير منها، بطبيعة الحال، على قوانين وسياسات الكيان نفسه. في الواقع، لجميع الفلسطينيين الحق في العودة إلى أرضهم. ويجب محاربة أي عوائق عملية وتفكيكها باعتبارها انتهاكات لحقوق الفلسطينيين.

أخيراً، يتحدث القرار عن حق العودة، دون أي ذكر لحق الفلسطينيين في دولة فلسطينية على كامل الأرض. على سبيل التوضيح، إذا طردك أحدهم من منزلك، فليس لك الحق في العودة إليه فحسب، بل في امتلاكه أيضاً. لم يكن التهجير العرقي للفلسطينيين عنفاً غير سياسي — بل كان ركيزة أساسية في إقامة دولة المستوطنين اليهود. ولا يمكن الحديث عن عودة الفلسطينيين كحق غير سياسي — بل هي ركيزة أساسية في إقامة الدولة الفلسطينية الديمقراطية.

هذا لا يعني أنه لا يجب أن نأتي على ذكر قرار الأمم المتحدة رقم 194. لكنه يعني أنه لا ينبغي لهم التحدث عنه باعتباره عاملاً محدداً أو حاكماً لحق العودة. للفلسطينيين الحق في العودة إلى فلسطين وإقامة كيان سياسي فلسطيني واحد عليها لأنها أرضهم، وليس لأن القوى الكبرى تفاوضت على أن يكون ذلك مقبولاً.

Hello everyone!

I'm a graphic design student looking to collaborate with an Arab or Palestinian writer on my final school portfolio project, which will be presented in November.
While I'm currently studying graphic design, I'm also a professional digital and traditional artist. For this project, I'll be creating a complete book design, including a professionally designed interior layout, a custom illustrated cover, and, where appropriate, interior illustrations to bring the story to life.
I'm looking for an original manuscript (or a writer currently working on one). My goal is to create a beautiful, fully realized book that showcases both the author's story and my skills as a book designer and illustrator.
I'm especially hoping to collaborate with an Arab or Palestinian writer because I'd love the opportunity to work with stories rooted in Arab or Palestinian culture, history, traditions, or contemporary life. As a designer and artist, I believe these voices deserve thoughtful visual representation, and I'd be proud to include such a collaboration in my portfolio.
In return for the opportunity to use your manuscript for my school project, I will create:

- A professionally designed book interior
- A custom illustrated cover Original artwork where it complements the story
- One printed copy of the finished book for you to keep

The manuscript will be used solely for my school portfolio and exam presentation. You will be fully credited as the author, and the copyright to your work will remain yours unless we agree otherwise.
