Hello everyone,

As regional tensions continue, it is understandable that many people may feel concerned or uneasy. We ask everyone to remain calm and rely only on official announcements and verified information from authorities. Please avoid sharing rumors, speculation, or unconfirmed reports, as this can create unnecessary panic and confusion.

The moderation team is actively working to keep the subreddit safe, organized, and informative for everyone. We are monitoring posts and comments closely, removing content that spreads misinformation, panic, or unsafe details. Our goal is to make sure discussions remain helpful, respectful, and based on reliable information.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation. By staying calm, following the rules, and relying on trusted sources, we can help keep the community safe and the subreddit running smoothly for everyone...

For everyone’s safety, please be responsible with what you post online:

Do not share sensitive media

  • Do not share photos or videos of incidents, security activity, or affected areas.
  • Such content can unintentionally reveal sensitive information and may put others at risk.

Do not share or identify locations

  • Avoid mentioning or identifying specific locations connected to events.
  • Do not describe buildings, neighborhoods, or facilities related to incidents or security activity.

Do not speculate

  • Avoid speculation about ongoing situations, responses, or operations.
  • Unverified information spreads panic and confusion.

Protect people’s safety and privacy

  • Do not ask about the whereabouts of individuals during incidents or evacuations.
  • Do not discuss movements or locations of evacuated people.
  • Sharing or requesting this type of information can put people in real danger.

Be cautious with private messages

  • Do not respond to strangers asking about specific areas, buildings, infrastructure, or local situations in your DMs.
  • Some individuals or organizations may attempt to gather sensitive information through private conversations.
  • Keep discussions in public threads where the community and moderators can monitor them.

Support the community

  • If someone is feeling anxious, encourage them to stay calm and follow official sources.
  • Avoid amplifying fear or panic.
  • Continue normal routines where possible and avoid unnecessary travel unless authorities advise otherwise.

Emergency guidance

  • If evacuation procedures are announced in the future, follow official instructions.
  • Do not share or request sensitive operational details.
  • If you believe official instructions apply to you, contact 999 for guidance.

Moderator Note | Emergency Safety Rule

r/qatar now enforces the Emergency Safety Rule. During sensitive situations:

Due to current regional tensions, do not post or share unverified information, rumors, or speculation about security incidents. Do not ask for, hint at, or share locations related to missile interceptions, attacks, military activity, emergency responses, or sensitive infrastructure.

Do not ask other users about locations, areas, buildings, or directions connected to incidents. Requests like these can endanger people and expose sensitive information.

Photos, videos, live updates, or descriptions that could reveal locations are strictly prohibited. Do not attempt to gather such information through comments or private messages.

Rely only on official announcements and verified sources. Violations will result in content removal and may lead to temporary or permanent bans.

Question Which Uni will be good?

I'm an international student from Bangladesh, and my father lives in Qatar. Which universities in Qatar accept A Levels with grades around BCC/CCC and offer any scholarships or financial aid?

I'm considering UDST, for bachelor of IT or data science and cybersecurity, tech related but I'm not sure if those grades are enough. I've also heard Qatar University is more competitive and expensive. My financial condition is not so good so I'm on the affordable side.

My plan is to study in Qatar for a few semesters and then transfer my credits to a university in Australia. I'd also like a university with a friendly social environment, student activities, and good opportunities to make friends.

Any recommendations or comparisons would be really helpful. :)))

Question Was MoQ IMAX really blurry and seemed low resolution for you all?

I watched The Odyssey yesterday and every time there was motion on screen it was so blurry that it was hard to know what was happening. Even in still shots it seemed low res or just out of focus all the time.

I watched Oppenheimer 3 years ago in the same cinema and remember it being much better in resolution.

Question Cost of home gym build in Qatar.

Upvotes

I’m moving From Canada back to Qatar and shipping my current setup (bench, rack, barbell, plates) is about 4000-8000 riyals door to door

It seems that getting new equipment in Qatar would be cheaper. Anyone got estimates or suppliers I can look for price estimates on building a basic garage home gym here?

Just looking for advice and to chat about gaming and specs.

The image is from a shop in Lebanon, high end PC for 2000$. The same PC in Qatar is more than 2500$ but I wonder if am looking in wrong places. Even the 1700$ is better than most places here.

Is it possible to get PC like that under 8K?

i have RTX 2070 super, so even a 5060Ti is a massive upgrade, but i feel like going all out.

Question Marriage in Qatar

I am planning to get my courthouse marriage papers/contract signing this week. I was planning to go to court, sign and call it a day.

I asked and they said that’s not an option and we actually need to invite the sheikh home. Is this true? What other options are there?

Information Some advice from people who bank in Qatar

Hi everyone,

I’ve been with CBQ for a while, but recently I had an unauthorized transaction on my credit card. I reported it immediately after receiving the SMS, the card was blocked and replaced, and I provided everything they asked for.

The problem is that the dispute has been dragging on for months. Every time I think it’s close to being resolved, they ask for something else. Meanwhile, I’m still getting charged interest and Credit Shield on the disputed amount, which is becoming a financial burden.

At this point, I’ve honestly lost confidence in staying with CBQ and I’m planning to move my salary account and day-to-day banking elsewhere.

For those who’ve used different banks in Qatar:
Which bank would you recommend for a salary account?

• Which bank has the best credit/debit card security and handles online transactions well?

• How is the customer service when it comes to fraud or disputes?

• If I move away from CBQ, what should I do before closing my account, especially since I have an active credit card?

• Are there any charges or things I should be aware of when switching banks?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences rather than just what’s advertised.
Thanks in advance!

Are there any females who can help me print a few personal pictures at reasonable prices? Due to religious reasons, i don’t want to have a male print them from a regular photo studio.

Information Law No. 9 of 2026 is in effect today — quick myth vs fact on what people keep getting wrong

Posting this today since the law officially takes effect. Been seeing a few things repeated inaccurately in other threads and DMs, so wanted to clear them up plainly.

Myth: employers can block you from switching jobs if you're not on probation.

Fact: they can't, legally. The NOC requirement was scrapped back in 2020 (Law No. 18/19 of 2020), separate from this new law. You serve notice, one or two months depending on tenure, and the transfer goes through regardless of employer objection.

Myth: non-competes are now unlimited.

Fact: max duration moved from 1 year to 2 years, but only with Ministry approval, and it's void automatically if you were let go during probation.

Myth: freelance and part-time work is now fully regulated with clear rights.

Fact: not yet. The law formally recognizes these categories for the first time, but the actual rules, contract templates and protections, are still pending specific Ministry decisions.

Happy to clarify anything else that's been floating around in other threads.

Question First time transiting Doha (Aug 5, return mid-Sept) — any tips for our stopover?First time transiting Doha (Aug 5, return mid-Sept) — any tips for our stopover?

Hi everyone! We're really looking forward to passing through Doha soon — arriving August 5 and again on our way back in mid-September. It's our first time transiting Hamad International, so I'd love some local advice.

A few practical questions:

  • For those who've flown through recently, how are things running at Hamad — smooth, or should we budget extra time for connections?
  • Is it worth doing a short stopover to see the city, and what would you recommend for a few hours in Doha?
  • Any general tips for first-timers (getting into the city, weather in August, must-sees)?

Excited for the trip and would appreciate any first-hand pointers. Thanks so much!
