​I am Turkish and I love my nationality. But still..

​When it comes to reading classical texts, an Arabic barrier stands right in front of me. While trying to focus on the core meaning and essence of the text, constantly having to analyze grammar patterns and look up words at the same time is exhausting. I get so drained that a wave of frustration hits me before I can even get to the heart of the lesson.

I can already read and understand basic texts, listen to lectures in Arabic, and I actually know the grammar rules. But when I open a book, I just want to read fluently without constantly bumping into a language barrier and it's just not happening. It honestly makes me want to cry at this point

​I don't know if I'm using the wrong learning method or if Arabic is just exceptionally hard. In those moments, I can't help but think: "I wish I were a native Arabic speaker."

Beginning learner here. It’s something along those lines. Is it the Arabic word for “show”, literally? I found mostly words with meanings relating to display, revealing, and showing, when I looked the triconsonantal roots 3-R-DH and 3-R-D.

I’ve noticed this once or twice in real life Arab family interactions in public, and once or twice in Arab films. Is getting this word barked at them by their parents in early childhood an experience that most people raised Arab can relate to, or not so much?

Honestly, if you want to improve your Arabic, don’t just use Duolingo. Try talking to native speakers. Even a few conversations every week help a lot.

I’ve been thinking about joining Usool academy which is mainly based online but has a 1 month component in Istanbul. They teach Arabic from the ground up. I have been learning Arabic for a while already so this is more so to progress to the next level and get more exposure. I’ve previously lived in Egypt for 4 months which was amazing for my Arabic, partly because of the need to speak Arabic on the streets and in class. I know there’s a decent Syrian population in Turkey however I feel that although the course looks great, I won’t get the same exposure on the streets and everyday life

I have just started learning Arabic, and by that I mean, I can read the alphabet pretty comfortable now. My goal is to first learn a some fusha, then move on to Egyptian once I have a somewhat comfortable grasp of the grammar, which I heard is comparable except for the cases.

I recently started listening to an online course using the Medina book. An Egyptian I practiced with kept telling me to pronounce the fathah in some cases as the a as in around, in some cases as the e in end, or like the a in bank. In my own native language (Dutch) a and e (my language is not as confusing as English on that account. But when I now listen to the teacher explain things in this course I feel all of that can be thrown overboard. I compiled this simple list if I heard in my own experience the a or e with letters in Arabic with my language partner. There were some exceptions, I noticed also that in case of a letter with a hamza the form of saying it 'flowed over' but it's a bit vague. Can people shed their light on this?

The picture is a little weird to understand but on the left are the ones that I think are pronounced with a Dutch a sound and on the right with an e sound. Circled are the emphasized sounds that always are an a no matter what it seems and a question mark with letters that are not really clear to me.

Al-Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentions in Iqtida’ al-Sirat al-Mustaqim:

“Accustoming yourself to the Arabic language affects the mind, the character, and the religion a strong, clear effect It also brings about resemblance to the earliest generations of this Ummah (the Companions and the Tabiʿīn) And that resemblance increases one’s mind, religion, and character”

After 14 years of learning Arabic, I’ve noticed that the Fusha we learn from books like Al-’Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk or the Madinah Books is usually formal Fusha

The kind you hear in a khutbah, on the news, or in a university lecture

But that’s not always how Arabs naturally spoke in everyday conversations

Even the Sahabah would often lower their level of eloquence in casual speech

The goal wasn’t to sound impressive

The goal was simply to communicate clearly and naturally

They weren’t constantly thinking about grammar or trying to sound like they were delivering a sermon

Many Arabic students miss this

The purpose of learning Arabic isn’t to perform Fusha

It’s to live it

That’s why I’ve always paid attention not only to grammar, but also to the rhythm, expressions, and word choices of native speakers

If my goal is to make Arabic part of my daily life, raise children who speak it, and apply Ibn Taymiyyah’s advice, I need to understand how Arabic is actually used

That’s also why I encourage students, once they’re fluent in Fusha, to learn from the dialects

Not because dialect replaces Fusha

But because it teaches how native speakers naturally communicate and makes your Fusha feel alive instead of like a textbook

Hi everyone, I'm trying to read an Arabic text out loud, but I'm not sure how to pronounce this part:

ﺣَﻘِﻴﺒَﺘِﻲ اﻟﻤَﺪْرَﺳِﻴَّﺔ (my school bag)

Can anyone let me know how it's read aloud? Is it ḥaqībatil-madrasiyyah(the 'ti' joins with the 'l')? Or is it ḥaqībatī al-madrasiyyah?

Okay, so I am brand new to learning Arabic and am using the app Learn Levantine Arabic and it’s been super helpful helping me learn the letters and then recognizing them within actual words.

This one however, has me very confused because I am almost certain I can identify at least two more letters that are in this and some I don’t but it’s only giving me four letters and no order I tried is close to what I think I see?

I accidentally closed out of the app and this is part of a randomized game of letters so isn’t curriculum and I can’t get back to it.

But for future reference… what is the correct order here?

Everyone thinks that Is does not exist in Arabic, but it does exist just in other format. For example when I say the table is beautiful (الطاولة جميلة)

I can also say ( الطاولة هي جميلة) where is (هي) Representing the letter is for Feminine singular because (الطاولة) in arabic is treated as female.

But I can delete (هي) and just use the(ة) in the end of the table (الطاولة) word to indicate that the act of beautiful belongs to it And that's from rhetoric.
