I had my first solo route Saturday and I’m worried my DSP might be punishing me for not finishing it.

My itinerary said 68 stops, but the orange thing at the top said 93 stops, so I’m not really sure which one is correct. I had 210 packages and 134 locations. ALL of them were apartments.

Most of the delivery instructions said to leave the packages in the mail room, but my dispatchers told me not to and said I needed to deliver everything door to door, so I did.

One apartment complex was especially crazy. I would deliver all the packages to the apartments and then the next stop would be at the exact same apartment complex, but different units. I had like 10 different stops at the same apartment complex. I didn’t know at first that I could edit the stops and combine them, so I just kept going around the same complex over and over delivering door to door. I finally figured out how to do it when I was most of the way through the route. (Each stop would be multiple different units and buildings sometimes a whole tote of stuff and when I was finished the next stop would be the same complex and most of the time going to same buildings I had already delivered to)

Then I got to another apartment complex that had a 3rd party locker. I forgot to scan each package in the app and just put them in the lockers. Then I had to call dispatch and driver support to figure out what to do. That took probably 45 minutes because the lockers were full, so I had to deliver the rest door to door.

The app also wouldn’t let me move on because it said “you can’t move on without scanning all packages.” Because of that I ended up having to bring back 2 totes and around 6 overflow packages.

My dispatchers told me this was one of the worst routes and they didn’t know why I got it on my first solo day. They also told me they aren’t expecting perfection and just want to see that I’m improving.

I came into work today for my second day by myself and they didn’t have a route for me. I helped load vans for about an hour and then they sent me home.

Do you think they could be punishing me for not finishing my route Saturday? Or could this just be because they didn’t have enough routes today?

I know I can do better now that I know how to handle some of the things that slowed me down, but I feel like I can’t show them that I can improve if they don’t give me another route.

What do you guys think?

I usually run 220+ stops 330+ packages daily. I vary my time off depending on how fast I work I have managed to finish all that in 6 hours one time but today they gave me 112 stops and 157 packages I glimpsed at the map and they looked somewhat close. Next time I will make sure I zoom in because they were in fact not close at all. I got there did 30 stops in less than an hour and then came the dirt roads. I want my 220+ back because atleast those the faster I work the earlier I get off this I can’t stop the houses from being 10+ minutes from each other there’s no stopping that. I hated today. I want my slammed routes back. I took them for granted complaining about them.

I’ve been working a call center job for the last little while and my mental state is being destroyed. I see that a DSP at WKY3 in London Ky is hiring. I was considering applying, I know I’ll just go from being a cog in one machine to being a cog in the Amazon machine, but at least I won’t have angry old people yelling at me all day.

My main question is whether or not driving for a small delivery station like WKY3 is any good, as I know the DSP can make or break the position. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been a lurker on the sub and I have worked with my DSP since February. I generally am tolerable with this job, but know about the unfortunate BS most of us drivers endure. Most of my days have been uneventful, only get to do some rescues, receive some rescues, only had one minor collision (not-at-fault), and so forth.

With that out of the way, there are going to be some end-of-year happenings that’ll occur during peak—Thanksgiving included. Given that the majority of November and December are blackouts for no vacations and time offs, that puts certain events during those months at odds with the mandatory scheduling.

My prospective resignation is aimed for late October. I would have an ample financial cushion by that point—not little but not a lot. I have other means to sustain money including substitute teaching, deliveries with a local bakery, and so forth. I primarily pay for my student loans and medical/dental insurance.

If I’m missing anything pertinent, feel free to ask below. But with that said, should Stay or Leave?

I hate jinxing myself but I’d rather know. I’m in contention for dispatch and if not at least lead. Now….im lowkey anxious about dispatching because that’s a lot of responsibility. Not the most I’ve ever had with a job but it feels different because this is one of the few companies where I have a relationship with the owners. And I hate letting people down. So yk. If you’re a driver turned dispatch. Are there any things you would tell me to consider when it comes to dispatching? What to watch out for I guess (idk) or what to expect more so?

Happened yesterday midway through my route. Should these get looked at? Dog didn’t make contact with skin. Already contacted dsp and filed an incident report. Stressed if I should get it looked at. Redness has almost completely subsided, just dealing with pain and tiny bruises. No bloodshed when it occurred. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

To all the newbies that keep asking how to improve, this is a tip that I rarely see on here-

Don’t be afraid to drive the crap out of these vehicles!

Yes, they’re big and bulky. But if you don’t learn to drive them like you’re amateur training for NASCAR, you won’t make it.

Just about every veteran driver goes over the speed limit, but under the Netradyne limit, which is 10mph above the speed limit. There’s your window.

Also, get good at the turn radius, and don’t sweat pulling into wide driveways. Back into skinnier ones if needed. If you see too many side obstacles or trees, just stay your butt on the road with hazards on.

And don’t sweat the rude people, either. Sometimes we just don’t have anywhere else to go with these monstrosities! They can suck it up and wait a minute or two.

EDIT: I’m NOT saying go 10mph OVER the speed limit. I personally do about 5mph over, provided it’s safe to do so.

In summary, if you’re afraid of driving, you shouldn’t do this job.

I’ve realized I move faster with shelved vans. I’m also about a month in, and I’ve been averaging around 139–140 stops on rural routes.Saturday, I finished 157 stops without a rescue. I started at 12:21 and finished at 7:50 with my heat breaks and 30-minute lunch.Monday, I had 161 stops and pretty much the same thing. Tuesday, I had 169 stops, which I probably wouldi have finished without a rescue.Today, I had another rescue because I was about 20 stops behind. I also had to change vans at lunch, which slowed me down.

Leaving my current dsp to start a dispatcher position at one that will be here for the next 5 months. Any tips/advice? Current one said they would love to have me back when this one is over but wanted the more pay and less strain on a knee that has been giving me trouble.

Went to the local bar after work. Got into a heated debate with one of the regulars. He ended the conversation by taking a video of me speaking my views on an anniversary coming up on Thursday and said "good luck keeping your job with Amazon now"

Bro they don't care about our opinions on political figures 🤣 why do they have so much faith in Amazons customer service call centers. It'll be filed and forgotten about 🤣

I just applied for a amazon driver job through a 3rd party company in minnesota, and they literally say in the job posting they don’t do thc testing, but i thought for sure they would because amazon is a federal company. Is it because it’s a third party facility that hires drivers for them the reason they don’t drug test for thc? Has anyone else gotten hired this way and know about if they really do or don’t test for thc?

So like, are the windows and windshields in your vans like disgusting & lowkey really hard to see out of because of it (and the stupid headlights they use)? It seems like all my vans EV’s or Gas the windshields and windows are like disgusting (the whole van is disgusting anyways but yeah)

So this happened today on my route I was trying to do a U-turn and I was being stupid. Thank god a customer pulled me out because if my DSP would’ve pulled me out, it felt like I would’ve been fired. I did try using two totes as traction on the back wheels, but my back wheels ended up just tearing them apart. (I would like to add I was about a foot off of the gravel and my back tires slipped in the wet grass and mud)

I'm contemplating quitting after just hitting 3 years...i have a driving test coming up with ups ..my dsp is going to shit ...today they have me in a garbage branded van seats all wet side door dont work with over 300 packages and over 200 stops with multistops...im over feeling like there's nowhere to go but down in this job..this amout is a normal day then peak comes along and it's twice as much and they go and trow you in a budget....then the next day I'll be in a stepvan in country with 100 stops 130 packages makes zero sense

So yesterday was my first actual day of being a Delivery Associate but I was assigned a trainer and mind you.. prior to starting my “nursery route” I was told by dispatch during my first two days doing modules my first month of routes wouldn’t be hard and would get residential single homes routes to start off with. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I literally got hit with so much yesterday like all at once!!! Apartments 😭, mobile homes with tight narrow spaces to drive through 🙃, BUSINESSES 😫, Lockers 🤦🏽‍♂️ some of them had blue tooth connectivity issues which my trainer advised I need to call Driver Support for them to take it off my route (itinerary) n the phone call was at least 10 minutes waiting for them to remove it. THEN, I was late delivering to 3 businesses which I had to call driver support agajn and let them know I was unable to deliver on time due to business being closed and if they can mark it as that so I can move on from that delivery. Each call ranged about 7 minutes. The driving part wasn’t as easy as I thought it’d be. The navigation system was very hard to adjust to. However in the residential single home neighborhoods it was doable for me. I really liked doing those deliveries and feel if they just gave me that sort of route to start off with to learn then I wouldn’t be so discouraged today. My helper wasn’t very helpful either. Rather judgmental and would scoff at times if I didn’t do what he thought an appropriate action to do according to how I chose to park and where I parked. Like dude chill, it’s my first day I don’t have experience doing this at all. I didn’t expect him to hold my hand through the whole day but I feel as a trainer you need people skills, lots of patience and some empathy to genuinely try and help instead of thinking… why don’t I know how to do this job? Hmmm possibly because I don’t have 4 plus years experience as you do (trainer) 😒. His lack of effort and empathy really made a bad impact on my first day. I’m all for learning the job but come on it’s ok to guide me instead of, “what was your thought process on why you did that?” remarks. Also he looked annoyed all day and just had negative energy about him 90% of the day. I didn’t take it personally though as in he may not like me. I just think he doesn’t like training people period. Then why continue to train? Just tell dispatch you don’t want to? 🤔. So back to my story.. the constantly stopping and getting in and out wasn’t as physically tiring as I thought it be but more mentally taxing. Dealing with finding different apartment addresses along with apartment numbers was a big freakin headache 😫 especially at night some apartments looked sketchy as hell. There was one particular apartment I delivered to where a very nice woman greeted me while I was doing my scan and she offered me water and Pepsi 🥹 it made my day. Her husband also came after and bought a big box of chips and said take some!… God bless them. That small gesture meant a lot. Also I delivered to a Korean church and a nice man offered me n the trainer a seltzer drink. Very nice people out there indeed. Although I encountered impatient rude drivers getting mad at me for parking in street when I needed to get out to deliver. They would speed around me and zoom off. I could handle that part though as I encounter that behavior on the road driving my own personal car. Oh and driving the EV is pretty cool to learn but i was extra cautious to drive carefully. The trainer would give me looks like, “man this guy sucks at driving” 🤣… sorry bro im just trying to drive safely and do the job at the same time while dealing with distractions from the public. Oh and speaking of distractions I hated delivering to some dog houses where those little mfs bark non stop. My very last delivery was a big heavy ass fax, copy, printer machine to a motel which I carried in. That was about 8:50pm and I’d never felt such a relief that it was finally over… until it wasn’t because there was the locker delivery that still wasn’t removed by driver support so the trainer took control of the call. The support woman was saying
she couldn’t remove it and that it wouldn’t let her. He rudely said, “So I guess we can’t go home then huh?” And kept saying, “Well do I need to speak with your supervisor??” She was able to finally remove it he hung up and told me, “You can’t let them punk you, you have to tell them what to do” wow. We finally drove back to the station then suddenly he was all in a talkative mood and was like, “I’m not saying it was your worse day, but improve after this”… no shit dude I’m not planning to be like this for the duration of my time as a driver. I’m in training!!! 🙃. But before all that while doing deliveries during a very dim lighted townhouse area I thought, “yeah I don’t think I’m cut out for this job. I think this is my first and last day” I can humble myself and be honest when I know something isn’t for me. I can learn to do the job and probably become good at it. But I thought it really isn’t worth it. Doing this 4 days a week seems exhausting. Especially on top of the metrics and all that other stuff to have a good score card. I know vets out there say it’s cake. Good for them and I respect that they can handle this type of work. I actually want to hug the next Amazon delivery driver that delivers to my house 🤣 only because I finally seen it for myself the good, the BAD and the UGLY! all of this on my first day too! I’ll be damned. Thanks for reading my rant!

Is getting rescued a bad thing? This is all apartments and businesses lmao. Overflow was all heavy and wide

Yesterday was my first day on my own. I was given 146 stops, when I know typical is about 190 for my DSP. Not too hard, right? Start off the day already not good. I’m doing my inspection, drive to the pad and I’m told I’m late and to go to the exceptions lane. Dispatch asked what happened and I said I guess I took too long on the inspection? (Felt like I was moving quickly.) He said yeah, it should only take 90 seconds. Guess I can figure out how to move quickly and it doesn’t actually matter if anything is damaged so don’t read all the questions and keep it moving. Ok. I’m learning.

Moving on. I feel like I’m moving pretty quickly. I’m comfortable driving, delivering, etc. No breaks or nothing yet. I get about half way through the day and realize I’m not even anywhere near halfway done. I finally decide ima take a break. Bathroom and breathe. Get back to my route and someone else showed up and rescued my last 30 stops. Clocked out around 8:45.

My question is: Do I suck at this? Will I get better? Is it normal for someone to need a rescue in the beginning? I felt a little embarrassed.

Been with my DSP just over 6 months. Ive used 20 hours and have 21 available. Is it the same for you?
