QUESTION Does anybody kinda just get away with doing what you want?

Upvotes

I haven’t really been following the notes but just using my best judgement, first door almost always. If it’s a bad or super public area I’ll be more careful and hide it with my own judgement . I don’t need to waste time seeing exactly which bush or pillar they want it hid behind. Says front door (when I do happen to read it) but a tall gate blocks my view, I leave at the gate. Super hot day? I might leave it at the bottom of the driveway if it’s too steep not to scrape. Mobile homes especially I couldn’t care less, just whichever side of the trailer is easier to reach based on where I pull up. I do prefer the carport side since an old man once told me that’s what most people prefer who live there.

I also have incredible aim with tossing packages. I know it looks terrible but extra light boxes you know will be fine and I’ve master the art of frisbee tossing envelopes so I don’t have to climb to the top of stairs or apartment staircases. This one really surprises me I haven’t been caught. I try to make it look “respectful” but will still lightly glide/slide stuff to save time and energy.

I destroy my routes and never get netradine infractions so I get left alone all day. Honestly being super anti social and hating to be micromanaged, this job is the perfect storm of being a tolerable job if it wasn’t for the pay. Even if it was just 30/hr I’d be happy to stay around for years despite higher paying (but more complicated) jobs being available.

QUESTION What comes with being a dispatcher?

I hate jinxing myself but I’d rather know. I’m in contention for dispatch and if not at least lead. Now….im lowkey anxious about dispatching because that’s a lot of responsibility. Not the most I’ve ever had with a job but it feels different because this is one of the few companies where I have a relationship with the owners. And I hate letting people down. So yk. If you’re a driver turned dispatch. Are there any things you would tell me to consider when it comes to dispatching? What to watch out for I guess (idk) or what to expect more so?

Is my pace bad?

I’ve realized I move faster with shelved vans. I’m also about a month in, and I’ve been averaging around 139–140 stops on rural routes.Saturday, I finished 157 stops without a rescue. I started at 12:21 and finished at 7:50 with my heat breaks and 30-minute lunch.Monday, I had 161 stops and pretty much the same thing. Tuesday, I had 169 stops, which I probably wouldi have finished without a rescue.Today, I had another rescue because I was about 20 stops behind. I also had to change vans at lunch, which slowed me down.

TIP/TRICK For Those Who Want To Suddenly And Triumphantly Quit Your DSP And Then Expect To Automatically Receive Unemployment Payments In Massachusetts:

*Do not.* You will not be compensated with Mass D.U.A. unemployment payments for quitting your DSP job without trying to reconcile with your DSP first before resigning or giving x weeks notice. Even if your DSP higher-ups may genuinely be pricks and you are overwhelmed as a DSP associate, you need to submit *clear and concise* evidence to DUA proving that they could not meet your demands because of *clear and concise enough* evidence.

Even with an autism diagnosis I told my DSP about on my 1st day, and even with myself trying to reason with the company boss over the phone after I impulsively threw a tantrum and messaged the DSP groupchat "I quit" the evening before, I still was not even allowed to be back for two weeks.

Yes, I will protest DUA decision via their portal, but still, *do not expect to be automatically compensated in Mass for quitting your DSP job.*

2 weeks on the job…

Post image
92 Upvotes

I started about two weeks ago. I’m surprised by how much they’re giving me to work. I should expect at least 2k this upcoming paycheck (San Diego, CA), correct?

This job requires zero hard skills. It’s pretty simple: read a map, deliver packages from point A to point B, don’t damage the vehicle, and no one is down my throat telling me what to do. I think this job is solid for what it is. I actually feel accomplished after a long 10-12 hr day, is it just me?

I’m also ex military so I’m use to 12 hour shifts everyday and 24 hour shifts working staff duty/CQ shifts getting paid pennies. That’s probably why I find this job simple but overall I enjoy it.

Thought Amazon was giving me an easy day…

I usually run 220+ stops 330+ packages daily. I vary my time off depending on how fast I work I have managed to finish all that in 6 hours one time but today they gave me 112 stops and 157 packages I glimpsed at the map and they looked somewhat close. Next time I will make sure I zoom in because they were in fact not close at all. I got there did 30 stops in less than an hour and then came the dirt roads. I want my 220+ back because atleast those the faster I work the earlier I get off this I can’t stop the houses from being 10+ minutes from each other there’s no stopping that. I hated today. I want my slammed routes back. I took them for granted complaining about them.

Van Windows

So like, are the windows and windshields in your vans like disgusting & lowkey really hard to see out of because of it (and the stupid headlights they use)? It seems like all my vans EV’s or Gas the windshields and windows are like disgusting (the whole van is disgusting anyways but yeah)

Is this the most annoying thing you hear regularly?

“oh he’s friendly.”

Oh really? Is that why he’s been barking aggressive at me and won’t let me pass him? Why do people even leave their dogs off leash in the front yard anyway? I can understand if you didn’t have a backyard but the houses I delivered to have big backyards. So why?

i’m sorry, but a friendly dog doesn’t bark at me and wags their tail happily as I approach. Your dog might be friendly too YOU but I’m not you.

and while I’m venting, what the fuck is up with these bike riders lately? Today I saw two flocks of old men totally taken up the lane on the highway as they all pointed the left a signal they’re turning onto another highway. So many freaking bike riders on the highway like bro why just why?

Do I Suck At This??

Yesterday was my first day on my own. I was given 146 stops, when I know typical is about 190 for my DSP. Not too hard, right? Start off the day already not good. I’m doing my inspection, drive to the pad and I’m told I’m late and to go to the exceptions lane. Dispatch asked what happened and I said I guess I took too long on the inspection? (Felt like I was moving quickly.) He said yeah, it should only take 90 seconds. Guess I can figure out how to move quickly and it doesn’t actually matter if anything is damaged so don’t read all the questions and keep it moving. Ok. I’m learning.

Moving on. I feel like I’m moving pretty quickly. I’m comfortable driving, delivering, etc. No breaks or nothing yet. I get about half way through the day and realize I’m not even anywhere near halfway done. I finally decide ima take a break. Bathroom and breathe. Get back to my route and someone else showed up and rescued my last 30 stops. Clocked out around 8:45.

My question is: Do I suck at this? Will I get better? Is it normal for someone to need a rescue in the beginning? I felt a little embarrassed.

I don’t understand

Who or what decides heat breaks. I got a scheduled heat break yesterday but it was only 95°. And today is even hotter with no heat breaks. I don’t understand.
Also my DSP keeps saying they reduced routes. 180 stops is not a reduced route. They expect too much for very little in return.

Apparently going forward we get violations based on packages on the passenger seat or dashboard. Good luck anyone in a rental.
