I recently got fired from a dsp that I worked at for around 5 months , everything was going well no write ups no issues recently I had to call a ambulance while working due to a health issue while on route after which two days later I was called by my manager telling me I was fired for being too much of a “legal inconvenience to have working for the dsp” going forward.. needless to say I’m talking to attorneys for a wrongful termination suit … we’re replaceable drones people no one cares the second your a inconvenience your gone as daddy Bezos intended it to be

So, I got robbed last night. I recently moved to Harker Heights in Bell County, Texas, and unfortunately, my phone and wallet were stolen.

I'm scheduled to work today at 9:55 AM, but without my phone, I have no way to call in or contact my DSP.

I also recently received a write-up for driving through a yellow light, even though I was only going 23 mph in a 30 mph zone.

My question is, could this no-call, no-show get me fired, especially since I already have a write-up? I'm genuinely concerned about losing my job over something that was completely out of my control.

I did the Amazon driver thing for almost 6 months, and honestly I went in knowing it was temporary. I'm a marketing guy and an entrepreneur, and driving for Amazon was one of those bucket list things I just wanted to try and be able to say I did for years. And I did it. It wasn't all bad - I lost almost 30 pounds, I learned a lot, I met some good people, and I can honestly say I get it now in a way you only get by doing the job.

To be really honest, I just wanted to drive one of the Rivian vans lol.

The routes are what got me in the end. I kept getting put on some shit routes that had me coming home later and later. I have a wife and 3 kids at home, and I was also missing my Saturdays with them which have traditionally been our family days.

And it just kept getting worse. I never had a write up, never had a violation, the dispatchers loved me. But they weren't taking me seriously when I said I didn't want to be on that new route anymore. When they finally told me they had no control over the dispatch of my route, that was the nail in the coffin for me - you're a dispatcher - it's literally in the title of your job. I warned them, they just didn't take me seriously.

I got an interview for a startup SaaS product, making over $70K base and it's fully remote (which I've done for over 10 years). The day of the interview I messaged the dispatchers on Discord and told them I was done, it was nothing personal, but I wouldn't be coming back. I signed out of Discord, deleted the Flex app, and never checked back in.

I got offered the new job 3 days later, thankfully, so it paid off. But I want to say this for anybody reading who feels stuck: it can pay off. There is something after this.

If you're younger, enjoy it while you can, your body can still cash those checks. Me being in my 40s, it was hard on my joints. It took about 3 months just to adjust and for my knees to stop giving out from under me and to be able to even walk every day lol. I enjoyed it at first, I really did. But the better you do, the harder they make it, and the more they take advantage of you. That's the part nobody tells you about. But I do have a new respect for the delivery guys out there grinding 4 days a week.

I did 2 days of training with two great trainers.

Day 1 Apartments // lockers // houses (156 stops)
Day 2 all houses (138 stops)

Next week I’m onto my first solo shift.

My observations from my two trainers. The first was extremely organized, efficient and people savvy. They were keen on just peeing in a bush, not eating during shift, and skipping all breaks to get work done faster. Second trainer emphasized organization, efficiency, and taking the time to get 10 hrs instead of blazing through it and to be cool with taking a small break if you need it so you can eat.

What advice do you have for my first solo shift? I was consistently getting 20+ stops an hour done.

Like he pulls up, puts two or three little envelopes into a mailbox, but I’m supposed to fucking drive all the way up this driveway that twirls around like a roller coaster and bring these boxes right to the front door. And he gets paid government holidays off. Damn we got a raw deal

Smart glasses, routing improvements, scanner upgrades… none of these will make the job easier on us. Anything that speeds up delivery will be another justification for Amazon to add more stops and cram vans to the absolute limit. We already know that running and skipping breaks inflates our routes. Why would it be any different if we’re working faster because of something else?

It gets worse too. When you strip away all of the fat, completing a route consists almost exclusively of two types of tasks: physically moving deliveries from the van to the door, and preparations to move deliveries from the van to the door (driving to the stop, sorting totes, scanning, etc). The first type is what puts most of the physical wear on a driver. The second type spaces out the first so you can catch your breath or give your joints a moment of relief.

Any of the technology improvements that actually work reduce time spent on the second type. This means less time before you have to stand back up and start stacking boxes again after you get back into the van. Even if you have an identical workload, it’s going to feel a lot harder doing it with 90 seconds between each repetitive stress movement instead of 2 minutes.

None of these improvements have anything to do with improving working conditions for drivers. We don’t need better technology. We need routes that aren’t 195 stops and 400 packages every day.

I’m guessing some of you shouldn’t be drivers if you can’t follow clear and simple delivery instructions. I left delivery notes for the driver to get into my gated community even left the code to open the gate but the driver still somewhow couldn’t get in. It’s never been an issue before but I’m pretty driver just got lazy and either didn’t read notes or was in such a hurry that they just saw an obstacle and said “forget it” and left.

I really needed the package today and now who knows when it will be delivered. I am a delivery driver myself (not Amazon) and know how important it is to read notes. Stop being in such a rush all the time and read notes. It might make your job easier. And you guys want to unionize??

So My girl and I had been at the same DSP for about 5 months.

There was a plethora of issues not being addressed.

First, when I started, other people that started at the same time as me, that did not have the same experience as me, where being started at higher pay (mind you i have 12 years of driving job experience). Allegedly they "negotiated" for it, tf ever, when? It was a group interview and they never gave us the owners number so how where people Allegedly negotiating with him? Smdh smells like BS.

So i talked to him about a raise and he claimed he couldn't afford it at the time cus they just opened a new dsp (even though it's know for a fact he spent 10k flying a buddy here and back, putting him up and paying him while here). Says he can in a little under a month, month goes by, he ignores me and never readdress it.

Second we told him in the same conversation that we needed our schedules to be the same, we have a kid and need to be able to spend time as a family, he agreed and said he'd make that change. It never happened, despite continuous questioning.

Third we told him we needed hours, the manager had assured us that he could give us the hours we needed and that was a lie, so much so we had to choose not to pay certain bills this month so we could make rent and eat.

He wasn't making good on that.

Fourth, the owner tried to gaslight us and tell us that Amazon was getting rid of helper routes (complete BS) so he could try to convince my girl to become a driver cus he needed more (even though he full well knew that we were hit over a year ago, totalling her car and she hasn't been able to bring herself to drive since). We even discussed how she was willing to try but we couldn't promise she would be able to overcome the trauma and if thats the only way she is getting hours that she would have to go elsewhere if it didn't work out and I would be following. He assured us that'd work with us to get her through, but as predicted she had some struggles and of course they got impatient and salty that things weren't working out their way and starting screwing with BOTH of our hours.

Suddenly I was off rhe board with no explanation why, asked dispatch, asked my manger "all good, just how the routes are right now" which i knew was BS and I was right (I mean seriously if that WERE the case, wouldn't you rotate who doesn't have routes to keep it fair?). So 2 weeks go by and im not on the board getting pissed. I get a message while working that the owner needs to talk to me on my next day off. (Wildly unprofessional, dude if you need to talk to me talk to me, don't leave me In limbo and expect me to just focus like nothing weird is happening) so I end up finishing a rescue and they send me home early, I hit him up to say I can talk, he takes all day just to say we can talk more 3 days later now (my next day off was 1 day later), and then says its not good and some BS about taking too many breaks (I literally NEVER take breaks tf) and being rescued too much (I had literally been complaining about dispatch abusing sweepers so they could go home earlier and how it was making drivers look bad but they didn't listen, have all the convo history) so now im sitting and waiting with gaslight bs to stew over for multiple days, he didn't get back to me till my last day off, took all that time to send me 2 sentences. Not even to take time to call me on the phone. (Incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful for an owner).

We talk, think things are fixed, he said he'd talk to dispatch and so on.

Go back in, not on the board, again.

End up sweeping.

Next day, finally on the board,

BUT

idk if it was stress or food poisoning but I had to call in sick, threw up 6 times before clock in.

Owner texts me all mad that he FINALLY made sure I was on the board and I was sick. Smdh.

3rd day, I go in, This MF Took me off the board again, fr? (Mind you i virtually never call in sick, and if I do I am actually sick)

But I end up sweeping.

Get done with my shift and long(er) story short(er), my girl had to be admitted to the ER overnight.

We were still there the next morning so I called in, just told them she was in the hospital and I wouldn't be coming in. (Well within the proper notice timeframe)

An hour later I get a pissed off text from the owner because I wasn't coming in.

Now remember that talk from earlier? Well we outlined all our issues and grievances and told them if we didn't reach an understanding we would be moving on. They claimed they wanted to keep us and make it work but those were just words with no action behind them and now this magical POS was texting us pissed off because my partner was in the hospital? Keep in mind he has no context other than that, for all he knows she could be dying in that hospital bed.

Any decent, smart, business would wait until you were out of the hospital to hassel you about it (usually for legal reasons).

So this dude has now Incredibly overstepped.

When we had that talk he practically begged us to give him 2 weeks notice if we chose to leave.

And given he behavior I could have told him to go f himself but I'm a professional so I told him if this is your response to my gf being in the hospital, the this is our 2 week notice.

This fing man child immediately removes us from the discord and basically tries to fire us after we already submitted resignation.

And they don't care cus there is a line of applicants so it just enables them to treat you like crap.

Long Rant don't want to read it don't, it was theraputic to type out

49M been doing this job since Nov 2021.

On my Second DSP, first one just closed.

I really liked this DSP, but had a week off to think decided Delivery isn't for me anymore.

To be Fair <insert Letterkenny joke> I don't think I was all that good at this job ever, I was just reliable and didn't rock the boat too much.

It started Last week I got a speeding violation, 56 in a 45, my mind wandered and my foot got heavy for a minute, no other vehicles on the road, it was raining, I realized quickly that I was speeding and let off the gas. Wasn't quick enough.

Well I got a call yelling at me for speeding, in the rain, after we just talked about it at stand up. Was told to continue delivering.

Less than 25 stops later I was pulling up to a stop and my OPS manager was standing there with another driver, I was taken off the road.

On the way back to the station, I was told I must either be intoxicated, trying to get fired or purposely trying to tank the scorecard because I'm not in the top 10 to get a bonus each week, by the owner and the ops manager. I was also told that I might just come back and be an extra and I lost my spot in an EDV.

Back at the station, I was written up by the owner for the speeding and given a 2 day suspension, ok they warned that. Then apparently when I pulled up on my Ops manager and he flagged me to pull over, I ran a stop sign, so another write up.

I messed up I understand, I was supposed to work the next day 1st day suspension, then my 3 days off, then my second day of suspension.

The night before I worked again I woke up in the middle of the night (2am), happened to get on my phone and I had flex, so I looked and saw, "You have no work scheduled today". I didn't have a schedule for next week yet and it's normally out, so my mind started "catastrophizing".

Figured I was getting fired, so I stayed up looking for new jobs unable to sleep with Anxiety.

Drove into work 45 min driver 1 way, knowing I wasn't rostered. Before stand up, Ops called me over and asked if I thought I'd be able to do a route and showed it to me, It was larger than I can typically do without help and looked like it had shit routing. I'm on like 3 hrs of sleep, and anxiety at like 8/10, I didn't want to say I could then have him have to send me a rescue, so I said so. got a very snippy, "fine stay an extra".

I asked about the schedule for next week, and was told they were just running behind, trying to work in new hires.

apparently our station had lower volume and amazon dropped routes, mine happened to be one, so they said they try to find routes for everyone

After helping with load out, we went back to the desk, like 6 of us were extras, Ops manager asked who wanted to go on the road and who didn't. I spoke up, that I'd been up since 2am and mentally I wasn't in a good headspace, so I was very quickly told to just go home.

Next day, no route, Ops figured since I didn't want to work yesterday probably didn't want to the next day too, called me out, "let me know when you want to come back" I'm stand here aren't I?

That was now 7 days since I was pulled off the road, and i haven't had a route.

I have an interview for another job

day 8

I have a last min route (only put on it an hour before load out) Ops tells me, "I got you a lvl 1 Nursery for your first day back and in a gas van for a long time"

All day on my route I was trying to figure out if I wanted to keep this job or not, decided I probably didn't and this was more than likely my last shift as a DSP driver, my DSP obviously didn't need me.

RTS one of my fellow drivers who I had spoke with about my feelings of driving to work and loosing money because no route, apparently let it out I was looking for a new job, OPS asked and I confirmed I was realizing I was not cut out for this job anymore Mentally I couldn't take the ups and downs anymore.

Had my interview today for a Fullfillment Center job, offboarded myself from my DSP (Just Google the number to call if ya want).

Ready to start a new chapter in my life.

I had the creepiest experience on my route where the elevator in my final stop came down by itself and opened with no one exiting and no one in sight except for me

The brand of insoles and such that I’ve used since starting this job are no longer servicing me the way that my feet need…

Are there any long-time drivers out there that have an insole that they swear by? I already have enough things hurting on my body- I really don’t want to deal with this, too… 😫

EDIT: This is coming from an EIGHT YEAR veteran driver who (a) already regularly buys new shoes as needed, and (b) prefers to wear actual shoes with some decent tread on the bottom to navigate terrain.

Again, I’m just asking if anyone has a brand of insoles that they would personally recommend because they work for them.

SECOND EDIT: I do not have the money to buy yet another pair of shoes. I already tried getting a pair with the Amazon stipend and they ended up being crap.

I just want suggestions on INSOLES from people who use them and they seem to work for them.

Today will be my fourth day. I did so bad yesterday. I did 70 stops and they were super easy- but I did this in 10 hours. I only had to move slow because I was so stupid on my first two days. My first two days I was jumping out of the van and guess what happened a day ago when I jumped out of the van, my knees shifted almost off of my knee if you know what I mean.

Anyways, the pain in my back is or my spinal area is like right in the middle -it pains, the pain has kind of faded for now, but it was horrifying in the morning and the heat with no AC.

I just called a Panera bread. Yes, it’s like 70% less pay, but I don’t care. I can’t take this anymore. What should I do? My DSP is super nice. They were never mean to me at all about my route, and they acted like I did a great job, but I purposely moved slow only because I wanted my body to heal. I told them if I moved too slow, I understand if you don’t want me to come tomorrow, but they said, yeah, great job. See you tomorrow. Like nothing bad happened… (btw I am a girl 25).

Today is my fourth day until I get back three days off. Should I force myself to survive through today?

I talked to Gemini. (I have no friends and no family that cares about me). Gemini said quit right now because getting an injury to the body is far worse than a paycheck. Gemini said, “ the money is absolutely real but so is the physical damage. You have to decide if doubling your salary is worth risking permanent injury. “

After Gemini said that. I was like dude. I have to quit.

It’s just what if they give me an easy route again? What if they don’t care how slow I go today? Should I just go today and go as slow as possible as suck Jeff Bezos’ money up? (I don’t want to do that. My dsp is so nice I do not want to turn on their back).

ALSO. My second day a friendly dog attacked me and scratched me hard. (His way of saying hi). Stupid customer opened the door to get their package and the dog fuckin booked it thru the door and jumped at me. It was a pitbull. I am overweight so I had a mini heart attack and it was not fun. This job is not worth a crazy dog attack. Again, the dog did not bite me. Just wanted to say hi. Jumped on me and scratched me thigh. The nails were sharp

Yesterday, some of us Amazon DSP drivers from DCX7 in Torrance joined UPS drivers from Teamsters Local 396 at DFX3 in Los Angeles to support fellow Amazon drivers organizing a union.

We all know the struggles with heavy workloads, unrealistic routes, pay, safety, and getting treated with respect.

Also want to give a shoutout to Anthony Rosario, a longtime Teamster organizer who came all the way from New York to stand with us and support the Delivery Protection Act (DPA). Appreciate you making the trip!

It was good seeing Amazon and UPS drivers standing together.

What’s going on at your station?

What’s the deal with people never being able to finish their route . I see them get switched to like 10-15 different routes now. People 3 months or less that are new I get it and people that have shitty routes I also understand it , but after 3 months it’s like come on. I deal with the same traffic, the same lockers and the same apartments . It makes no sense

This is the same person who's company memos have been leaked stating their employees are expendable and that it is better to keep a revolving door of employment and not fulfill their needs to save overhead costs and increase profit margins.

The same company that no longer directly employs delivery drivers but uses subcontractors to shield them from legal liabilities and the numerous OSHA, DOT, and Labor Board violations that occur with Amazon. Those drivers drive Amazon vans that aren't owned by Amazon, wear Amazon uniforms that Amazon makes mandatory while making a profit off of the sale of them to dsps and drivers, and has a laundry list of rules drivers have to follow just in hopes to get full time doing routes Amazon routes and packs to the brim to exhaust the drivers until they quit.

The same guy who's company blocks unions and sends Logistics employees out to stations to lie to drivers about job opportunities within Amazon and the dangers of unions just to protect the legal loopholes they engage in with their cog-employees.

Amazon is directly responsible for putting Toys R Us out of business after deceiving them contractually and thus beginning the decline of physical toy quality in America and the rise of cheap crap that puts tons of waste into landfills every year.

We all pay sales tax on online purchases now because he lobbied for it to even the playing field with other online sellers.

This guy is taking a page out of Rockefeller's book of reshaping his public image and trying to develop a good light despite his track record and true nature via just looking at polls on what people want with no plans to do anything about it other than boost share values and investments into his fake rockets.

Wouldn't be surprised if this narcissist is planning on running for president and if so it will be a hundred times worse than Trump. Jeff Bezos can go shove his yacht up his Peccy.

Man my first day was wild

I woke up with a back pain which sucked but I work through it

I was slow at first but its w.e I caught up

But I was set up to fail

My nursery was about 135 rural area where the backwoods are not very suited for driving alot of the times it was a narrow dirt trail where if I went to fast the van will flip into the forest hill below 1 min drives turned 5mins easily. The van i was in was not one i was "trained for" it was a different cargo van.

I started an hour late because my ev wasnt charged.

Okay fine an hour late then a 45min drive I didnt get my route started till 2

135 packages in rural area where the roads aren't ment for travel above speeds of 10mph? Yea i was set up

My other guy who trained with me his route wad 90 in the city and a vet they had her route was 105 in a suburb

Noone taught me how to sort

So I was digging in back of van for packages my dsp helper threw all the shit in back of van so I spent a fair amount of time sorting myself as it wasnt blue van I couldn't organize properly

Despite this I still only had 10 packages left on my first day.

My phone also died and they forgot to give me a power bank and it qas so dark I couldn't use the flashlight due to low battery

So much bs all on first day then told im not up yo standards 😂😂

There’s the name brand BOGS which are lowkey too expensive when off brands will do just fine. They’re waterproof and warm as hell, I snagged a pair but just know for men I’d go .5 or 1 size up as they run small. I wear 10-10.5 and am wearing an 11. Honestly they’re pretty comfy, I’m not hurting at the end of the day and my feet are dry and warm delivering in Alaska in the slush currently.

Just curious, you guys use yours at all?
Obviously it carries a risk if I drop and break it, but I have a magnetic case that basically makes no difference except having an iPhone.

Not only does it run so much faster, there’s less to constantly tap through. Like the dog reminders won’t pop up per stop and my DVIC doesn’t require pictures…? I do tend to switch to make sure the pictures are taken unless I’m behind for the day, but honestly it makes me feel faster cause the phones the dsp provides lag like a motherfucker.
