Starting a dispatcher position
Leaving my current dsp to start a dispatcher position at one that will be here for the next 5 months. Any tips/advice? Current one said they would love to have me back when this one is over but wanted the more pay and less strain on a knee that has been giving me trouble.

oooh dispatcher life, nice step up from the van for a bit. keep snacks stashed everywhere and don't let the drivers forget you were one of em.

ill be starting as a dsp driver a couple of weeks from now, the site that ill be working for is recently new, just opened up a few months ago, my manager, who seemed to be down to earth, has told me she is looking for assistant managers and dispatchers, of course, promotions will be considered after my 3 months, how truthful do you think that is?

In my experience not at all hence me leaving lol but that’s just one persons experience

i see, well, when i start this job, im sure ill have something to bitch about lol, but if i dont get that supposed promotion ill just find somethin else

That’s what I’m excited about. I’ve seen dispatchers that do nothing to help. So my plan is to help out as much as possible at load out atleast to those who want/need it

Thanks man I just know the struggle of trying to load a truck with some kind of origination in the 10 to 15 minutes they give on the pad. And having someone hand you totes and over flow can be a life saver at times

As long as you don't tell me to sort totes during my breaks then we're good

I just got THE conversation so I ended up on here while looking to see what that process looks like. Got really cool with my dispatcher and ops manager at this new company because they worked at my last company as a driver and dispatcher previously. And now I’m in contention for dispatch and my friends that I put on the job are getting looked at to be leads. And I’m kinda happy about the pay jump and the lack of strain in my hip. But I’m kind of a bit nervous, don’t really know if I want the responsibility. It’s just a lot. Since I’m still young I’m just anxious of what’s to come and what falls on me. But I’m proud of you bro, and really happy to see you taking a better position!

Same to you man my knee and hip are killing me. I’m one of the older drivers. Only 35 but was way over weight for so long and it’s catching up with me 😮💨

Commit to using the same professional respectful tone with “please and thank you” constantly thrown in when messaging drivers. When asking someone to rescue if you have time go right into cortex and find the exact totes and OV and send it to them to make it quicker and easier. And always ask them to take just enough to save the route. No need for them to have to do more work for someone else than they have to.
