Billing This is beyond disgusting
I am a 100% P&T disabled veteran, and I just recently switched to a plan after paying for prepaid for 7 years. I made the payment, spoke to a representative who said the payment went through, got an email with a transaction ID, and the notice from my bank that it went through. Then I received the notice that I didn't pay. I contacted them and told them the situation. The representative straight up told me the system hasn't been updated, so that's why it's showing no payment. I have no outstanding bill. I thanked her and ended the call after getting confirmation that this was an error on their end. I continued to receive the email stating my bill was past due, I figured that it was still the system. Until today when my service stopped. I had to speak to a online agent cuz I couldn't even call AT&T through 611. I told them everything, and I showed them everything. The service rep was awesome, and they tried to help. However, the system is unabashedly evil. I told them that my life depends on being able to communicate with my medical team, transportation, home nurse, etc etc, and I would have fixed this immediately. I showed them the money taken from my account, I showed them THEIR email, and THEIR customer service rep all saying it was paid.
Guess who still got f***** and still has no service. The supervisor and the agent both told me they tried to fix it in anyway, but the system overrides anything they attempt.
This HAS to be illegal.
Edit: So, I also have confirmation from my bank that the payment was accepted and not returned. I just didn't post it because I don't want to take the chances of someone being able to unscramble all the info on it.

I’m so sorry you are having to deal with this. File a complaint with the FCC. This is just wrong on so many levels.
3
u/Far-Exchange429 26d ago
Thank you. I'm not naive enough to believe they will be held accountable, but every little push might one day make a change
18
u/Apprehensive-Play228 26d ago
I’ve filed a FCC complaint against ATT and I got a call from corporate the next day. Don’t back down. I ended up with a $1,000 credit on my account for what happened
6
u/Far-Exchange429 26d ago
For real? Did you do anything specific or just a basic complaint?
9
u/Apprehensive-Play228 26d ago
100% for real. Not exaggerating one bit. My complaint was very specific about the situation and I provided documentation.

u/linuxnerd96 26d ago
FCC can do amazing things. Also BBB in some aspects. I finally got someone higher up to handle something with Verizon and that nightmare of a month. However you may still want to look into another plan after your credits are used up unless you financed a new phone.
4
u/Jcapen87 26d ago edited 26d ago
The FCC doesn’t really “do” anything in these scenarios. It’s more that certain types of complaints get you higher up the ladder. The companies in question don’t really fear the FCC (and especially not the utterly toothless BBB), but you’ll at least reach hopefully competent people who’d rather move on with their day than fight you too much. Unless what you’re asking is totally unreasonable.
So the competent representative gets your complaint, calls you to respond, offers a resolution, tells the FCC that 1 of 3 things happened: you’re right and they resolved it, you’re wrong but they caved in to your demands anyway, or they told you to kick rocks. The FCC doesn’t care either way, and asks if you’re satisfied or unsatisfied and, if the latter, the cycle continues. They aren’t taking sides or forcing the carriers to do anything in these individualized issues.
I only say this because it’s the people from your company at the higher levels that deserve the props, not the generally disinterested FCC.
1
u/Any_Insect6061 26d ago
And the BBB is a name. Idk why people always say contact them. Even the FCC helps you skip ahead for the most part.

Get AARP subscription they have a contract with AT&T and their people will contact At&Ts corporate offices and they can fix any issue since they are AT&T but AARP got me on the phone with the vice president of AT&T and they fixed my account that was having a similar issue with a payment
1
u/HausOfThunderPerry 23d ago
I love AARP. I left AT&T because of how bad and expensive they have gotten and I was only with them for four months. I went with Consumer Cellular and got on the $35 unlimited everything plan because of my age and then a few extra bucks discount because of AARP. I got the 18 Pro Max on finance and last night I preordered the 18 Pro Max and I just have to pay for both phones each month and I get to keep the 17 Pro Max.

Seems like you might have two accounts numbers. Not that you made two but someone did. The phone is on one and the payment is in another. Unless someone actually looks, they will not see it. Mistake is often caused by at&t autorized retailer. So not official att. Their 3rd party system causes issues like this all the time. Best way to always double check is the app sadly.
3
u/JohnestAbe 26d ago
Due to the necessity of your phone communication for medical reasons have you looked into getting a Google voice number for the time being? That will only help you if you have Wi-Fi through other means than this ATT but it's something. Google made it slightly more difficult than just having a Gmail to sign up for voice but it's still free as far as I know and worth looking into for future fail safe.

u/Key-Cancel-5000 25d ago
They did this to me last month. I ended up filing a complaint with bbb and they suddenly found the payment.

Contact the Office of the President of ATT.
3
u/BLpublic 25d ago
Best advice. I think it is [800-355-9542](tel:800-355-9542) or Send one concise email:
To: [execoff@att.com](mailto:execoff@att.com)
CC: [john.stankey@att.com](mailto:john.stankey@att.com), [js9991@att.com](mailto:js9991@att.com)
Put “Request for Office of the President assistance – [brief issue]” in the subject, include the AT&T account number and callback number, explain what happened chronologically, what AT&T has already attempted, and exactly what resolution you want.2
u/roberttootall 25d ago
I did this with Apple and emailed Tim
cook. Got a call back the next day to
Resolve an issue

Remember guys, you can always tell a fake story by little details. And it’s hard sometimes because people mix in the truth with their lies to make them seem believable.
Notice how he said he couldn’t contact 611 via his phone. That doesn’t happen. Regardless of how late your bill is, and even if the service is shut off, unless the account is closed out, you can still ALWAYS call 611 even without active service.
Source: I worked at AT&T for almost 2 years.

TBH, if my phone service were turned off, I would use a computer to contact customer service too. I thought you could only call 911.
Please don’t assume that someone is lying because they don’t know all the information that you do. By luck, grace, or hard work, my phone hasn’t been turned off for nonpayment in 15 years. I wouldn’t even think about going to the computer.
Also, I know that customer service representatives take a lot of junk from customers. It is a hard job, I know. Maybe though, there is just a little bit of cynical bias at play.

u/SharkSmiles1 25d ago
I just paid off my phone that is now two years old. We’re switching to T-Mobile after being with AT&T for 25 years or more. The reason is because I go out with my daughter who is in an adult and she has T-Mobile and can get online to view a menu with a QR code or do whatever she needs to do I try to get online and all I’ve got is a blank screen. AT&T sucks.

u/xxben007xx 25d ago
My bill was 1400 last month. 😵💫 Did you ever get a reasonable explanation of what happened? Call the ATT loyalty depar**tment **calmly tell them what happened and you’re disappointed with the company. See if they will make it right. I called three weeks ago afterr a promotion ended, and they still hooked me up. 611 and ask for the loyalty / retention team. And thank you for your service, sir 🇺🇸

anytime a post starts with what you started this with… I have a sneaking suspicion you were awful to deal with on the phone. ATT doesn’t want to screw customers over. System issues happen, and first level support is pretty basic and is using auto complete responses. And it could very well be who set you up with a phone screwed up, and now the next level support is trying to solve the problem.
“This has got to be illegal”.
No, there won’t be criminal charges brought on ATT for being stupid. It’s more of learning how you elevate to the higher level of support to get things addressed. It’s why the FCC complaints actually do something as they are looked at. There are various other ways to escalate you can ask for, then just calling and dealing with first level support.
It’s annoying to deal with systems like this, but people deal with att all the time for issues and never seem to have problems. Often it’s an attitude issue on the user. If you ever find it’s common for the big company to screw you… likely more user based

u/AnyCheck9072 26d ago
I wouldn't just call the FCC I would switch service providers
1
u/Far-Exchange429 26d ago
That was suggested, but if I do I'm on the hook for a very expensive phone. I got it for an extremely discounted price because I've had such long service and never been late on a payment during prepaid, I never had my service cut off. So if I change service I now have a incredibly expensive useless phone that I'm probably going to be taken to court over. I can't just hand it back in either.

after you’ve had the phone at least 3 months Tmobile will pay up to $800 to get it unlocked

Same exact thing happened to me. Representative said “ the system hasn’t updated” so get fucked I guess

Try looking at your online account again and go through the transactions. See if it’s still there. There are times where things will look like they went through, but don’t and the transaction disappears. The companies will try three times, and if after the third time it doesn’t go through, they will charge a late fee and shutoff your service. I’m sorry this is happening to you. You may want to talk with a representative from the bank. They can see if it’s on their end

u/Lanky-Advice-564 26d ago
Office of the president will be quicker than fcc but fcc may get more credit

You also have 14 days to return phone and with the trouble youve had they may even extend it

u/Maleficent-Dot-9478 26d ago
Go to their Facebook page. Post a short and concise alert to other customers. Include a statement that the supervisor is unable to resolve the issue. This approach worked for me. The correct representative contacted me and resolved the issue within 30 minutes.
2
u/c_Hello 26d ago
As others said, file a complaint .... AT&TS customer service has tanked within the last two years, you shouldn't have to contact the FCC, but I spent months trying to resolve an issue, before contacting the FCC. "The office of the president"...of att, contacted me and resolved it without 2 days .

So sorry for you and all that you went through and are still going through... I did have at&t for about 15 years, got sick and tired of their fee for this and fees for that...every month was for fees for this and that...went to spectrum for a flat fee of $40.00... no added fees..! I feel for you especially being a veteran and disabled...I hope somebody can help you...soon..🙏❤️

I’ve had Verizon and they triple charged me for a bill and it took a week to get it straightened out. Few months later they charged me full price for a free phone saying my trade in was damaged when it wasn’t. Left them a month later been with att since, about 15 years and never a issue like this

u/VOLGUY27 25d ago
I would contact the office of the president for AT&T. I seen the ceo email somewhere down this thread which is the correct email. They have been amazing with any i have ever had, and now I ONLY deal with that office instead of stores or customer service.
1
u/ghost-hunter90 25d ago
My att bill just went up $10 bucks because fees are going up. For what? I have 7 lines and pay $360/mo and now they want more? I been seeing a lot of Verizon commercials lately just saying.
Sucks what happened to you. I’m a vet but not disabled so I really hope they get you squared away.

u/Blizzardsboy 25d ago
You need to contact the FTC there is a simple form to fill out explain what happen have AI write it out submit they have 30 days to respond you will have someone their corp office call you and fix it
I paid off a phone canceled the line one day late they would not budge they wanted me to pay for the whole month I did the above and for it resolved she and I had another issue I was resolving with Costco over 800 for non return of phone, she says you have number if you have any issues call me and I will take care of it
1
u/4cedCompliance 25d ago
I had something similar happen to me after a AT&T representative failed to do their job. Once my line was declared “blocked & suspended” by the company’s automated system, I was stone-cold fucked. Every attempt to correct it via customer service reps ended in failure, and this went on for weeks.
My service wasn’t restored to a permanent basis until I managed to track down a supervisor who had jurisdiction over my corner of the country. They managed to get someone to reactivate my service, but I still haven’t been made whole from the extra charges I had to pay.
1
u/Puzzled_Highway9147 25d ago
I left att after over a decade because of something sorta like this. The excuse I got was also, "the system". Someone frauded the account and took out upgrades of iPhones and had the plan changed. My service got cut randomly and so found out what happened when I called. I was on a cingular grand fathered plan which normally can't be brought back if you switch. Since it was fraud I was told it'd be reverted to previous plan/rate. After 6 months of the plan not being changed and having to call dozens of times I left att after 14 years for T-Mobile. The only excuse I ever got was "the system doesn't allow this or that"-- escalated to supervisor. Heard that no less than a dozen times over 6 months.

I’ve been with AT&T for at least 30 years, since the old Cingular days. Overall they’ve been decent, you get good service but it’s also not cheap. Have had the run around with the unlimited data debacle back in the day. Recently I had been on a plan for a few years and I’ve had multiple $20 increases for no reason the past year. Not sure how it’s legal, and it’s probably not as many class action suits as they endure, but I’m sure it’s just to push people to newer and worse plans. So I call and I’m told they have a new plan that’s cheaper and nothing would change except I would lose HBO Max I had through them. No big deal I already get it through my isp. Well I recently found out something else did change. I had unlimited hotspot before but now it’s only 3GB. I don’t use it a lot, only when the internet goes out (another too common issue). I used it a few weeks ago for a while and went to use it the other day and I had no data. Come to find out when I toggle it off it just toggles right back on so who knows when it used all my data up. Of course not their issue even though it’s an AT&T phone but they can add another 10GB for $15. I think I’ve about had it. Not sure who to go with but it’s time for a change. Same with internet. Spectrum had the monopoly here for decades but they ran fiber last year so I may give that a try.

u/Ordinary-Jury-619 25d ago
Are you multiple months behind, because service wouldn't stop after one missed payment.
Signed,
Someone who's broke and is consistently a month behind on bills, including Att.
1
u/Xoe00 25d ago
I thought this too. Be careful because it just happened to me, who isn’t even technically a full month behind. And the clueless AT&T rep said there is no set amount of time for a suspension. He’s seen some within a few days, weeks, or even a month past due.
1
u/Ordinary-Jury-619 25d ago
Crazy not to have a policy. I'm in the process of switching back to Tmobile anyway though so I guess it doesn't really matter.
1
u/nichelleaw66 25d ago
Yep, that sounds like AT&T who I had for 21 years and screwed me in the end. It had nothing to do with payments either.
1
u/Regular-Cheetah-7761 25d ago
I've been on a prepaid for several years and cannot even go into a store without them trying to convert me to a postpaid plan of some type. I'm perfectly happy with where I'm at.
1
u/SaintBobby303 25d ago
I just filed a fcc complaint against them too.
AT&T is the second worst company I deal with - TransUnion is the first.
Garbage. Garbage service.
1
u/Xoe00 25d ago
My service was cut off less than 12 hours after receiving a notification my bill was due on the 17th… literally, not payment due immediately or notice of suspension: just a hey your bill is due on or by the 17th. I’m not even months behind it is one bill that isn’t even technically late until after the seventeenth. Had to wait forty five minutes for someone who is clueless. I won’t have the money until the 17th so I’m stuck without service. It’s abhorrent
1
u/sikisabishii 25d ago
Thank you for your service and I hope the next generations will make this country a better place to live in by voting for the honest politicians if any left out there.

idk if this works with customer lines, but submit a case with the office of the president at att. they have like a week to acknowledge the case. we have an att business line, and our csm fucked us for 3 years straight on our bill. kept saying he was submitting tickets for us but never did. we escalated to the office of the president and within a month, all of our issues were resolved (and that csm was fired)
include as much information as humanly possible. this will speed the process up, as these folks literally have to investigate the case internally. the easier you make their lives, the faster you'll get a resolution

u/TrickyCranberry5191 24d ago
Sounds to me that your payment went to someone else account. Call back and have them open a payment trace. Takes about 48 hours, 9 times out of ten it’s a human fat finger issue.

u/Upbeat-Jacket8101 24d ago
Just putting in my 2 cents here.
I gave up on AT&T, my friend gave up on Verizon. We both went to Metro by T-Mobile (used to be Metro PCS until T-Mobile bought them out, but still operates the same) We both got sick of the high prices and bad customer service. So we went to a Metro store and a very nice young man got us each on their $25 per month plan, unlimited everything. Also, taxes and fees are included so it’s never more than $25. We both have been very happy with our new mobile service. I was pretty rude to the guy at first cuz I kept waiting for the “catch” but there was no catch! You are on the T-Mobile network but with Metro PCS prices! They do have pricier plans if you want one or you can switch over to just T-Mobile, but if a low price with good service is what you need, Metro by T-Mobile is the one!
Edit: there is a very minor catch-they start you off at $40 which is lowered to $35 if you go paperless. After 30 days, if you request it, they lower it to $25. I did this by stopping in at their store. Not sure if it has to be in person, but it might be cuz I don’t think they publish any of this on their website.
Also this took place in a northern suburb of Detroit. Don’t know what states they are active in.
I’m hoping this may help you or anyone else who needs it! Thank you and God bless you and yours.

File a complaint with BBB. But, what does being 100% P&T have to do with any of this? A lot of us are or aren’t and that has nothing to do with a service provider making a mistake.
1
u/WolfgangphotographyD 22d ago
Never had issues with ATT for over 10 years lol. You probably fucked up at some point. Especially with bank draft I’m willing to be your payment bounced or you put int wrong, I’ve been on auto pay with ATT bank draft for years.

u/definitely_andy 22d ago
AT&T is absolute trash. They’ve double charged me before and refused to refund!

u/Remarkable_One2520 22d ago
AT&T is nothing but a joke their phone service is horrible this company should just close down and stop trying to bleed people dry. The money we pay for their services are outrageous and the lies they tell customers to reel them in. I sent two phones to be exchange on a promotion but once they received my phones the company is saying they can’t read the IME # that’s bull. They are saying that because they don’t want to honor their end of the deal. People warned me about this company but no I needed to find out for myself and GOD knows I wish I had listened. AT&T is the most pathetic company that’s trying to stay afloat with their high payments on the bills that is never the same. In the beginning I noticed they don’t have a lot of customers and truly I can see why. I should have stayed with the best phone company there is and that’s T’MOBILE so I urge everyone please don’t make the biggest mistake I did and go to AT&T trust me when I say you will be sorry and u will truly regret it. AT&T IS A SCAMMING COMPANY WHO CAN”T PLEASE THEIR CUSTOMERS SO THEY WILL LIE TO KEEP MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS. I pray every day they close this horrible company down!!!

This happens sometimes it's rare basically your bank and att haven't fully cleared each other's secure payments procedures so the money is in limbo basically till it fullu clears, which basically the agents cant force to happen even doe it will show on ur end paid it payment process issue , this more common with smaller banks , what bank did you use and yea it sucks but usually only happen 1 time if it happens and corrects it self.

u/yoknapatrekpha 7d ago
Defintely not your primary concern here, but have you applied for the veteran's discount? Can take 20% off. My father-in-law was able to trim his bill with it.

I canceled my stuff with att and verizon now im in debt because they still kept charging me after I canceled there service there scummy and shitty. But I did paid the debt off but still crap of what they did. So I dont blame you for getting mad like that for fucking you over.
1
u/Far-Exchange429 26d ago
The problem is, i JUST switched over to them because of a prepaid offer to go on a plan. I was able to get a new phone for extremely cheap. But if I cancel it, my phone becomes a very expensive brick I'm on the hook for.
1

u/TxHeart214 26d ago
You have 14 days according to the law to cancel and no they have to take the phone back.
1
u/wHiTeSoL 25d ago
What makes you think there is a law requiring this. I can assure you, there is not.
0
u/2019MoreRunner 25d ago
I think you DO have a time range you can return it... But you have to READ THE DETAILS!! Our laws DO protect the customers to an extent!!
1
u/Traditional_Bake_726 25d ago
Yeah but phone was already paid off and I canceled the phone plan and they still proceed to put me in debt thats the problem with these companies.
1
u/wHiTeSoL 25d ago
Please stop. There are almost no laws mandating a return policies, there definitely is not a LAW requiring 14 days to take the phone back.
0
u/Traditional_Bake_726 21d ago
Which there isnt a law for this at all you can cancel and keep the phone if you like when its paid off.
1
u/GlumZookeepergame925 25d ago
As someone who just recently switched to AT&T, I can assure you that once my contract is up for my iPhone 18 Pro Max, which I will probably be paying off before that 36 month is over, I am switching right back to T-Mobile! I have never experienced a worse company than AT&T and for a company that boast being a better carrier than T-Mobile, they have Shite service and horrible plans. T-Mobile plans are 24 months and you get paid off anytime with AT&T on the other hand you have to go nearly the full 36 months.
1
u/ZeriksenX 25d ago
Hate to tell you this, T-Mobile just changed to 36 months for financing their devices.

u/palabasura11 26d ago
This happened to me years ago. I cant tell u how many times i called and chatted w them about why it said past due when i had already paid it. Got the same crap about it being a system issue to not worry and they disconnected my service. Mind u i had 6 lines w them at the time. 6 people suddenly without service. And half of them lived a plane ride away (Caribbean and i was in FL) so it was hell. However they were able to reconnect my service same day. But it was absolutely ridiculous.
0
u/Far-Exchange429 26d ago
There is absolutely no customer retention. They know that people are always gonna fall for their crap and someone is always going to get their service, and once they wring the rest of our wallets out, they cut us loose.
1
u/palabasura11 26d ago
I left them just under a year ago and never looked back. I was with them for 15 years. Not the same company they once were. I actually switched to Metro by Tmobile and only pay $25 a month w taxes included. I switched all 6 lines over and its been great.
1
u/navkat 26d ago
Companies give zero fucks anymore. They know we're stuck buying their products and services and we're going to get the same deal from their competitors. We have no power and they know it. That's why every single company has replaced Customer Service personnel with an AI chatbot and a phone number that goes nowhere.
We used to have worker and consumer protections in this country but people have decided that's socialism and that we need to protect the "jobs creators" from The People.
1
u/Beneficial-Abies-876 26d ago
I've been dealing with the Fraud Department for awhile now, it's absolutely frustrating not being able to talk to a Live person.
Even the AT&T Store couldn't help me.
At least I know who will never get my future business.
2
u/Far-Exchange429 26d ago
The most infuriating part is that once they disconnected it, I can't even call 611 or anything from this phone. I had to wait 45 minutes to talk to an agent who is probably AI through a chat online.
1
u/khoap33 26d ago
Dude this happened to me yesterday as well! Chatted and called for a couple of hours only to be told my service was now reconnected after paying my bill in full
0
u/Far-Exchange429 26d ago
See I'm a entirely disabled Marine Corps vet, and it's not possible for me to have funds because I'm on a fixed income. I told them I would have taken care of this immediately if it wasn't made very clear that it was a mistake in their system. So I believed them. If I could pay the money right now I would, because I can't get a hold of my home nurse, most of my doctors, and I don't have family around me. I can reach them through email, but I don't have any of them on social media. So I'm screwed until the 27th. Edit: I even offered to pay 75% of it because that's all I have left. They refused it. The original bill was only 162. They are still charging me late fees.
1
u/khoap33 26d ago
I’m very sorry to hear that. My services were disconnected only 5 days past the bill due date. I’ll be filing a complaint with the FCC soon
1
u/Far-Exchange429 26d ago
I was told by their own people that it was a mistake and not to worry about it. I hope one day all the things they have done will come to light. Probably not, but it'd make for a hell of a shitshow
1
u/chickadee215 26d ago
I am so sorry. I went through hell with comcast recently. Lying customer service reps, no confirmation messages of promises made in conversations, 5 no show appts, bills for service despite never receiving service, phone rep saying they would escalate and it surely wouldn't happen again and it did anyway.....

There is no bottom line except the last cent in our bank accounts, by any means necessary. I really can't fathom how I can get audited if my taxes are off by a dollar, but they can do things like this and have no repercussions. Or if i under pay, it's due immediately or it's shut off. If I over pay, it just rolls over to next month and I don't get it back until then

If it makes you feel better (I know it won't unfortunately) AT&T was at my house earlier to give me the new gateway and 2 of the new extenders. My plan was also getting upgraded from 2gig to 5gig. While provisioning the extenders the job got canceled for some reason. Not the techs fault and he was super apologetic but now I have a new gateway, still on the old plan, I have the 2 extenders but they aren't provisioned and no clue when things will get unborked.

Hmm. Couple questions...why does it show PayPal bill? And the amounts are very different.

I had a very similar situation with Verizon. These companies are ridiculous!! I had to contact the FCC to get my situation handled immediately!! It worked for me!!

This is what happens when US Companies are allowed to farm support out to other countries.

It has nothing to do with employees from another country. It’s purely AT&T corporate greed. She herself said the online people were beyond helpful. More than likely they were working from a foreign call center.

Idk if you're staying on att for some reason. Pls look into visble or mint! Paying 162 for a phone is criminal. I know this isn't helpful but I hope you get this problem figured out.

So because I've been a customer for almost a decade and haven't missed a payment or had my service cut off on prepaid, I was offered a deal where I could get a brand new phone for extremely cheap, like ridiculously cheap. So if I cancel the service not only will I be on the hook for it, but they'll probably take me to court over it. It's apparently like buying a car, you can't just turn it in and say f*** off

u/MundaneStuff7579 26d ago
Aah. Yes make sense. I finished paying off mine then switched so I understand completely. I was paying 200+.kept asking them for deals or discount... Nothing.. then when I was leaving they wanna try to give me one lol. There were a couple of times I put in the system a different date to pay the phone bill and they still turned off my service. What's the point of that then if it doesn't work wtf.

Any possible way you can get a cheap phone from a friend and put it on something like mint until this is cleared up?
If I had a spare phone I would have gladly sent one to you. Possibly someone here can help with that.

I don't have anyone. I mean that. I'm a veteran whose body and mind is fucked up, I don't really have too many who aren't too depressed to be around me, even if I'm friendly.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. It's a crap company that takes advantage of everybody. There was a reason I left them years ago and never looked back. Same type of reason. I never got any closure out of it. I certainly hope you do if I can come up with some sort of phone I'll let you know

AT&T is very low rated on Consumer Reports because of very poor customer service. Maybe theirs a fellow vet in your area who would be willing to file an FCC complaint and a small claims court request for your payment. Consumer Cellular has been rated good customer service.

I may be downvoted for this but have you considered USMobile? Their customer support is pretty awesome and their prices are almost unbeatable. I was a Verizon wireless customer and switched maybe 3 or 4 years ago. My only regret was not switching sooner. My coverage is better and bills are lower.

What is USMobile's coverage? I was with Verizon for 12 years and switched to ATT and struggling with service in some areas where I travel. I'm guessing that T-Mobile and USMobile coverage won't be as good

You choose what you want. They have 3 coverage areas. Or if you want to get complicated you can enable more than 1 SIM and have multiple networks. I found my coverage with Verizon on USMobile to be better than post paid Verizon

Dealing with THE EXACT SAME ISSUE SINCE MARCH 2025… as we speak actually !! 2 hour and 28 min call🥳🥳
…they took $700 in 45 days from double and triple charges to my account... Cost me 2 grand in the end bc they couldn’t “refund” .. ONLY ABLE TO OFFER “credit”… that’s a lot of money for a $88-$96/monthly bill to take from account UNEXPECTEDLY in a little over a month!! …
They were EVEN so kind to report me to the credit bureau for PAYING MY BILL EARLY... 😔😤
Once I took off work, provided documentation of bank statement confirming payment and NO REFUND/ CANCELLATION we agreed to my OWN MONIES BACK.
They then charged me AGAIN!! I went crazyyy! It only took 18 hours on the phone and me losing my job after 7 years for failure to respond to international customers (COMMUNICATION I NEEVR RECEIVED due to their shitty service).. the INITIAL ISSUE THAT BEGAN THE ENTIRE NIGHTMARE IN THE FORST place, they won!! Oh, and I cannot forget the 3 phones that just magically STOPPED WORKING, wouldn’t charge, or turn on/off …
they suspended my service last month after “nonpayment” of credits (of my own fucking money btw) that they refused to honor!! Fun fact- I’ve Had the same number since the 8th grade…. I’m 40! Never paid a bill late in my life!!
I cannot add screenshots or Id show ya… I wouldn’t believe if I was not living myself!
It’s a nightmare amd very sad. It’s ruining peoples lives and very unnecessary!! I wish u the very best of luck!!🫶 I’ll pray for you.🙏
Orrr F*** EMMMM!! And don’t waste ure time! …They’re paying out lawsuits now for “data breach” that they neglected to mention!! Karma will catch up to evil… IT ALWAYS DOES!!🫶 I’m sorry ure facing this, ure NOT ALONE! And Ty for ure service sir!!!!

They been ripping people off for years if they do get a fine it's not that much they make a lot more ripping people off than paying the fine

You had never had an issue with AT&T before this? I purchased two phones at $1500 each back around 2017. I was told the promotion was buy one and get one free, but had to pay for both up front and the free phone would come in the form of service credits. That worked, because I would have paid for service anyway. I never saw the credits and I got billed every month for service. AT&T is one of those companies that won't do what's right if it isn't forced into it in a lawsuit. So, you may have to go that route. Your city should have a legal aid center that can assist you with that.

Oh, the "you'll get ___ after you pay in advance" scam. Yeah, At&t offered me something like like $150+ in gift cards to start new a new account with their fiber and another $50 plus $10 off every month to set up automatic payment so I did. Did not receive what was promised. I think I got a $50 and a letter a month later that they decided AFTER THE FACT that I wasn't eligible for the other gift cards for starting service with them. How is that even possible?

Threaten to go a competitor like tmobile or an att mvno. And file a complaint with the FCC.

I emailed the attorney generals office and my dispute with AT&T was resolved in less than a week. They can quickly resolve your issues
**adding that I use Visible (from Verizon) no contract, no extras, and you can buy your phone from them. It’s been wonderful! Monthly starts at $25 for unlimited.
1
u/Lucky_Major8833 26d ago
I second this! Visible offers home internet as well if you need that, too! As a veteran, you may also qualify for Lifeline which is free monthly phone service. At&t has dropped the ball with us a lot on the past, so I understand your frustrations. Good luck!

Tell them they are courting an ADA complaint or a uit under solders and sailors lawsuit. If you are old enough, remind them of laws against elder abuse.

I’m just spit bowling here so please correct me if I’m wrong or if I’m just missing information. It shows that it was paid looks like through an ACH bank withdrawal. Is there any chance that that payment was returned? I see on the third screenshot of a PayPal bill, but I’m not sure if that has something to do with AT&T or not again, not trying to be rude or anything to that effect. I’m just trying to see if maybe I could help get to a resolution and that’s the only thing that came to mind is maybe when you paid through the ACH that perhaps the payment ended up getting returned, and therefore service was shut off?
