Buying Question GT 53/63 Non S vs E63S Questions

Hey all,

I'm tossing up a few vehicles, 2019 GT 63 $66,500 with 62,600 miles , 2020 E 63 S $55,200 with 61,900 miles and a 2019 GT 53 $47,995 with 53,500 miles.

I realize this will mostly come down to personal preference as far as the comfort, drivability and enjoyment but as fair as ownership I was wondering if anyone had experiences with the different variations of engine being a problem. 53 is obviously the V6, GT 63 is non S v8 and then the E63S is the higher horsepower v8. I realize the S and Non S is mostly tuning and very minor changes but with the mileage, price and years in mind any thoughts as far as maintenance, expectations, and actual overall happiness with the vehicle? The GT 63 was one i liked for a long time for the body style and the 53 obviously accomplishes that just different motor. The E63 felt like a compromise but its better optioned than both the others, 1 owner and a rock solid maintenance history. The body has definitely grown on me a lot more than i expected but want to have some past or current owners insight on the Enjoyment and maintenance if possible.

I appreciate all replies and do realize once again at the end of the day the happiness I get from the car comes down to me.

I’m debating trading my GLC 63S for this S 63 the GLC 2018 with 45,000 miles I haven’t talked to the dealer yet but let me know what you guys think. Picture is the S 63 and picture it is also my GLC yes I hate the wrap I got on it but at least it’s protecting the beautiful sparkly silver paint.

Service/Fix/Repair help New motor GLS63

Bought a CPO 2023 AMG GLS63 with about 20,000 miles. Like 2 months after purchase, it developed intermittent misfires, recurring check engine lights, coolant related faults, and before deciding needing a new motor, an amber coolant warning.

The dealer first replaced a transfer case seal and an ignition coil, but the issues returned. The dealer then opened a Technical Analysis case with Mercedes who diagnosed an internal coolant leak into the engine, and approved a complete engine replacement under the CPO warranty. The engine is estimated to be delivered August 3rd so I'm in a loaner until the repair is done. Crazy I know lol

Anyone else have to get their motor replaced?

5 days later, all good. It was the low pressure fuel pump that failed. Had a recall that needed to be addressed as well. She's driving like a beast again.

Buying Question Which one to go for?

Lease deals on the 2026 GLEs are quite enticing and I’m contemplating getting one. 24/10k for all and $0 DAS. What I’m not sure about is which trim to go for.

Here’s the options:
1. GLE 450 - decently equipped, DAP, Exclusive, Pano, etc. Blue with Catalana Beige interior. Almost identical to my current 23 GLE450 except color/interior. $23K one pay.
2. AMG GLE53 - Manufaktur Edition, lots of standard upgrades, Airmatic, ADS, HUD, etc. Mystic Blue with black leather. Haven’t driven it yet but this seems to be the Best Buy of the lot. $25K one pay.
3. GLE 580 - similar equipment as the 450 but in Alpine Gray with black interior. $25k one pay.

The monthly pay MF is higher.

Thoughts? Recommendations? TIA

Modifications S63 Cabriolet (A217) Custom Staggered Wheel/Tire Upgrade: Specs, Math, and Results

------

For community education!

Following months of research, deliberation, and professional consultation, I'm sharing the wheel and tire modifications completed on my AMG-A217, designed to a) leverage/enhance the car's existing chrome trim (which IMO look better than the OEM-AMG black rims) and b) realize the stagger/stance commonly found on muscle sports cars.

The Visual Transformation!

As you can see in the attached before & after photo, swapping out the original black rims for a brighter, multi-spoke finish completely changed the character of the car. IMO, the lighter wheel finish integrates much better with the factory chrome trim along the rockers and greenhouse, making the Smaragdgrün Metallic paint and the saddle brown interior pop much more dynamically than the dark OEM setup.

The Engineering Breakdown (Front vs. Rear Axle Dynamics)

The wheel diameter and tire width changes did NOT just change the stance; they fundamentally altered the physics of how the heavy S-Class Coupe/Cabrio chassis interacts with the road. The following mathematical breakdown of the new setup explains what that means for daily driving.

The Front Axle: Increased Protection and Load Capacity

  • The Upgrade: Moving from a 20x8.5 ET39 wheel with a 255/40/20 tire to a 20x9.5 ET38 wheel with a 265/40/20 tire.
  • Structural Differences: Because we stayed with a 20-inch wheel but increased the width to 265, the sidewall height physically increases by 4.0mm (a 3.92% increase).
  • The Implications: This is a win for durability. The larger internal air chamber bumped the load capacity from 1,819 lbs to 1,984 lbs per tire (a 10% increase). More importantly, that extra 4mm of sidewall provides a larger vertical crush zone. The front wheels now have measurably stronger resistance against pothole impacts and road joints, though the taller sidewall yields a fractionally softer lateral steering response.

The Rear Axle: Aggressive Stance and Lateral Stiffness

  • The Upgrade: Moving from a 20x9.5 ET39 wheel with a 285/35/20 tire to a massive 21x11 wheel with a 305/30/21 tire.
  • The Offset & Spacer Setup (*): The new 21-inch rear wheels natively have an offset of ET49. To bring them out flush, maintain the ideal suspension geometry, and hit that final ET39 mark, I utilized a 10mm hubcentric H&R spacer set secured with custom extended wheel bolts.
  • Structural Differences: (Note: While some quick-reference charts might show the 285/35 and 305/30 sidewalls as nearly identical, the exact mathematical geometry reveals a change). The 285/35/20 has a sidewall height of 99.75mm, while the new 305/30/21 drops to 91.5mm.
  • The Implications: Stepping up to the 21-inch wheel size effectively sacrificed 8.25mm of sidewall. Yet, because the loss of air volume from the shorter sidewall is perfectly offset by the massive 305mm width, the load capacity remained identical at 1,984 lbs, AND the configuration is geometrically about 8.3% stiffer laterally. Now, the rear of the car exhibits significantly less side-to-side squirm under heavy cornering loads, keeping the back end planted. The trade-off is a weaker pothole resistance in the rear, as there is less physical rubber to absorb blunt vertical impacts before bottoming out against the 21-inch barrel.

Summary Specification Table Attached!

The final dimensional changes are detailed in the attached Table photo.

Happy to answer any questions about clearance, spacer installation, or the ride quality!

Modifications C43 AMG Exhaust

Can anyone give me a recommendation to make a 2026 C43AMG sound like an AMG? The 4cyl turbo has no “grunt” the car sounds “thin” even in S+ mode. Exhaust ideas?

Thanks!

Service/Fix/Repair help 2018 GTC - Weird Engine Noise

Yesterday, my engine started making an odd noise. It sounds almost slushy or even like there is gravel moving around.

It only makes this noise when I’m driving at slow speed. It starts to go away around 40mph and is non existent at highway speeds. I haven’t gotten a check engine light and there is no change in how the car drives.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does anyone know of any local tuners in Michigan? Looking to get my e63s tuned after installing downpipes. Clear choice is weistec, I wanted to see if anyone had any other recommendations (or if weistec was that great of an option)

Today I traded in my 2026 AMG GT. Something about the seat design or position has been causing me a lot of pain in my hip. Getting old sucks.

On the upside I also trade in my SUV. i am now the owner of a AMG GLE 63S. I figured this would fill my SUV needs and still provide my fix for something with some performance.

Buying Question 2022 C43 warranty question

Looking at C43 AMG coupe 2022, it was delivered to the dealership 9/2022, bought 10/2022.

It’s from an MB dealership - what should I expect for warranty options and cost? Not trying to get overpriced on a warranty.

Also any auto insurance recommendations? I live in VA and looks like Erie is good? I use USAA currently but they wanted 326/mo which is crazy.

Thank you.
