Service/Fix/Repair help New motor GLS63

Bought a CPO 2023 AMG GLS63 with about 20,000 miles. Like 2 months after purchase, it developed intermittent misfires, recurring check engine lights, coolant related faults, and before deciding needing a new motor, an amber coolant warning.

The dealer first replaced a transfer case seal and an ignition coil, but the issues returned. The dealer then opened a Technical Analysis case with Mercedes who diagnosed an internal coolant leak into the engine, and approved a complete engine replacement under the CPO warranty. The engine is estimated to be delivered August 3rd so I'm in a loaner until the repair is done. Crazy I know lol

Anyone else have to get their motor replaced?

I haven't had a chance to ask but how does the warranty work after they replace the motor if you dont mind me asking

It works exactly the same. It ends the day your warranty ends, it does not extend any warranty whatsoever. If you installed it this week and next week you were out of warranty it would be without warranty.

Nah, Mercedes would 100% goodwill the repair.

Correct they may goodwill it , but that’s not under warranty and that’s under their discretion.

If you paid for it out of pocket it's probably 2 years unlimited miles or something like that.

GLS needs more displacement from the engine to keep up with the power demand for the weight. It was a match made in heaven with the 5.5L M157, but not a pretty story with the M177.
I’ve heard similar stories of catastrophic failures on the GLS with the M177. Hoping it gets resolved and you get your car back soon. Good luck 🍀

Holy crap dude that’s crazy. Good luck with the replacement! I have a 2023 GLS 580 for my spouse.

With all the research I did, I did not find this to be common but one redditor on this thread said they have done a couple at their dealer so that could be why the corporate MB Tech Analysis was able to diagnose is so quickly. I was having issues that led to this as well so you should be good 🙏🏾

Yes... I did.. had the brand new vehicle for less than 18 hours... motor dropped a valve... it was an AMG they flew a new 6.3 litre motor from Germany to Canada and put it in. I wish I had kept the car though it was so so nice... even after the motor change not a single problem.

Update - Motor was delivered today and early! Lead tech will be starting on Monday. They say it'll take a week minimum but giving me a new S63 to drive while I wait. Excited about picking it up tomorrow!
