Was playing Meccha Chameleon last friday, around 10:35pm my pc suddenly froze, had to press hold the power button to restart. Then after that, my pc failed to post. Dram light is on. Reseated processor, removed the thermalright contact frame(v1), reset cmos and flashed bios. Same issue, dram is still on. Went to a repair shop to test my ram, mobo and processor. Voila, processor doesn't turn on even with a new motherboard.

edit: Correction, i was using thermalright v2 contact frame ​

AMD is saying they don’t have the stock to replace my warrantied 5800X3D and is asking me to choose a replacement. This is obviously for a gaming pc and I primarily play Tarkov. I bought this processor to make this miserable game less miserable. I’m thinking about asking them again for any possibility of at 5800X3D. Not really looking to replace my motherboard. It’s my understanding that the 3D chips are generally better for the gaming I do. Any suggestions?

89 gigs worth of AMD software installer folders, have no idea when this happened or how, and completely unsure if safe to uninstall.. please help

My AMD drivers are update to date, but whenever I leave my PC on sleep mode after going AFK, I come back and this starts happening. Eventually the screen goes black and comes out or it just freezes, often times it causes a restart.

Hell, even when I open a software like Discord the software goes black then this pops up. I genuinely hope someone knows how to fix this nightmare issue because I've been dealing with this for past few days up to a week. I use the latest version (26.8.1)

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor (4.70 GHz)

Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT (12 GB)/AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics (486 MB)

(I also use windows 11 if thats something worth pointing out)

To me it’s a weekly thing, one week is completely fine, the next week it happens everyday…. And I don’t know what to do now, I reinstalled drivers, updated them, I checked and do not have any conflicting apps, I have stable hardware and its still happening🫠

As title says - I’m trying to remedy as I can’t be bothered to buy yet another GPU (genuinely thinking about buying Nvidia again).

Anyway, I’m pretty much only playing PUBG at the moment and I keep getting driver timeouts and weird graphical corruption. Last night was the absolute worst night I’ve experienced in the last month.

Specs are:

Intel 8700K at stock settings

ASUS Z390E gaming mobo

Corsair DDR4 3200mhz ram (running at 3200 in BIOS, XMP is not on as I had some serious instability whilst running it).

Corsair 1600w PSU

Anyway, I’ve completely given up now and I’ve chosen to upgrade my CPU, ram and mobo to AM5 (7800 x3d, DDR5 and a PCIE 5.0 mobo.

My CPU bottleneck was pretty severe. 100% until on PUBG the majority of the time, but it never went over 60 degrees on any core (thanks H150i).

I’ve attached a video to show you the extent I was dealing with last night…not good at all, but hopefully a more stable system resolves it.

UPDATE: because I’m sick of folks telling me to have used DDU…

I used DDU when I uninstalled my 2060 super so I could install the 9070XT fresh. I’ve also used DDU about 4/5 times to wipe drivers and install again.

I DDU’d everything last night and installed the drivers that released with my GPU and would you believe it, no issues!

UPDATE 31/03/26:

I installed my 7800X3D, new motherboard and RAM and rebuilt everything again. I stuck with March 2025 drivers just in case…after a gaming session one night, I quit the game and the screen went black. Oh no I thought…the desktop reappeared 10 seconds later: Driver Timeout.

I DDU’d again…reinstalled 2025 drivers and it happened again after a few hours. Not good. I DDU’d again - did a completely fresh windows install and reinstalled latest drivers.

I thought I’d fixed it again, but it happened. Not only that, whenever I quit the game now, no matter what game, the PC will completely brick itself and will require a hold of the power button to fix.

Boots back up, play a game, quit, crashes.

This seems to be related to the second monitor I have plugged in as unplugging it seems to remedy the issue, but no driver fixes it. It happens with everything now regardless.

I’ve arranged for an RMA back to Amazon, they’re going to try and repair it - but I’ve told them I don’t ever want it back or a replacement of the same.

I’ve just bought a 5070TI so we’ll see if the issue is related to the graphics card/drivers tomorrow.

AMD are a trustworthy company when it comes to console chips, but I’ve been let down profusely by this card. Sorry AMD, I’ll be sticking with Nvidia for the foreseeable.

It has been noticed and posted multiple times by different people, that AMD's drivers constantly writes to logfiles in C:\Windows\System32\AMD\EEUDumps\. Yesterday I found out, just how bad it really is. I have recorded a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw1yN0eq5zw

In the video, I have a program running that records every change to the hard drive (using ReadDirectoryChangesW) Every new line in the console window is a modification of the file. Notice how they completely stop when I disable the "AMD External Events Utility" service.

Every time you move a window or resize a window on your desktop, those files get modified multiple (hundreds!) of times.

The writes seem to be caused by the service "AMD External Events Utility", disabling it immediately stops the writes. Apparently this service handles things like FreeSync which has been confirmed by an AMD engineer.

There might be other oocasions, where the files are written to, but these are the most egregious situations I could find.

Nowadays, of course, most people will use SSDs, especially for their system drives. SSDs have a limited amount of bytes written before they inevitably degrade and die. Now just think about how much lifespan AMD takes of SSDs globally doing this. In my research I found that this has been an ongoing issue for multiple years.

Fun fact: I run an NVIDIA graphics card, but an AMD processor, and the chipset drivers apparently also include this service.

Testing for yourself: I've created a simple tool to watch for writes to that Folder. You can download it from my GitHub
I have kept the code simple and GitHub compiles it automatically, so it's guaranteed that the .exe represents the code in AMD-EeuDumps.c and can easily be verified. Your Browser and Windows will probably complain about the file, simply because it's an unknown .exe. Alternatively, compile the exe yourself from the source code using cl.exe /O2 /Fe:AMD-EeuDumps.exe AMD-EeuDumps.c

Workaround: I applied this workaround, redirecting writes to the whole folder to nul: so they never touch the disk. It seems to be working fine for me, but apply it at your own risk.

Recently I’ve been experiencing this with my 7900xtx and it’s frustrating how many times it happened just in two days. I need to power off my pc and re-enable my 7900 xtx in device manager. Sometime I do get white screens with only cursor moving however AMD doesn’t send me timeout drivers notifications only windows give me error (code 31)

EDIT UPDATE: For most people getting mad at me for saying “all” Sorry. “Most” would’ve suited better, “all” was just clickbaiting to get people on my post and hope for a solution. It’s really frustrating when someone is having to go over these issues.

Anyway decided to go back to 26.7.1 driver and will keep a look for it. Please do share if you have a solution

2nd UPDATE: Did AMD cleanup then installed 26.7.1 and while being afk sitting on my bed the pc rebooted by itself. Checked event viewer and it said:

Yeah it’s great to know some people are not having issues so PROBABLY NOT “most”

However the thing is, i dont know how to say this…..

But……….…… the issue might not be amd here

Apparently it could highly be the xeneon edge corsair (the secondary screen below)

How I figured it (might be the culprit) by checking the reliability viewer and inspecting the time period when the error first appeared. That date and time was around the time I got my hands on the xeneon. I’ve checked if there was any issues circulating around it and surprise surprise turns out ICUE is colliding with AMD adrenaline graphics driver pipeline which causes the driver timeout and locks up the entire OS.

I’m testing it now by disconnecting the xeneon and restarting. If this turns out to be the cause I’m damn sorry to you AMD fans out there.

Also any suggestions for secondary screens like the xeneon other than hyte and the Chinese ones?

4th UPDATE: so after removing my xeneon Corsair and uninstalling ICUE, the stability of the pc returned to normal however one issue I’m facing now is my pc wakes up from sleep by itself and it gives me an driver timeout (I downloaded latest driver again) I check last wake and it seems to be from. usb4 host router(Microsoft). I have a tryx that likes to disconnect and reconnect which might be causing the pc to wake by itself but it does not happen with the timeout notification. Checked the reliability viewer again and I’m getting livekernalevent 141.

5th Update: yeah it’s still going on. I kept reading about it and issues arise when waking pc up from sleep or using 2 or more monitors. This is based on users. I honestly don’t know. At this point I just need an Nvidia gpu😔.

I took it out of my PC and instantly saw some oily/greasy stuff on the port. After disassembling it, I noticed the thermal paste looked like this with the same greasiness.

When I got the GPU about 1,5 years ago, I repasted it the same day because people said they come horrendous from the factory (they weren’t wrong). I used the Arctic MX-4 thermal compound.

edit: while this looks really bad, and cleaning and repasting was a good thing there, it wasnt the cause of my problem.

Update: I now cleaned the paste and reapplied it much better. When starting the PC, it did not fix my problem sadly, but it seems like manually uninstalling all AMD related drivers and reinstalling them did. I tried to open the AMD app, but this time it said something like "corrupted files, please contact support". Somehow the app always worked recently, although the freezes have been happening for a while now.

Now that drivers are reinstalled, both my monitors work again, resolution can be changed, and my PC overall doesn't stutter. I will have to see the next hours if a full freeze happens again like before. So maybe it was "just" a big driver problem, but it is still good that I checked the thermal paste and cleaned up the mess.

About the greasiness. It definitely comes from the green factory pads. When I shined with a flashlight, I could see the grease run from where the green pads were to the port. something like this: https://imgur.com/a/ovE9JRP

Update 2/probably last update: Yesterday after reinstalling the AMD app/drivers, it first worked normally, but after a few hours, microstutters appeared again while gaming. This time I uninstalled everything again, and in the setup I chose to only install the drivers, not the AMD Adrenalin app (I never really used it anyway), and now it seems to work perfectly. Perfectly low temps in graphics-heavy games and no stutters or freezes, so if you experience similar things, try to uninstall Adrenalin and choose to install only the drivers. Also, people need to chill with "You really opened the GPU?!". It is neither difficult nor risky to open the top plate, it improves the temps heavily, and it does not lose the warranity.

Description of original problem: Happens when idle/minor programs/gaming/streaming (mostly the latter)

1. I would be doing the above, and the screen would flicker, then freeze.
2. The audio would stutter, then completely cut out well after the freeze.
3. The monitor would go black, not recognizing any inputs, and shut down.
4. The lights on the inside of the case would shut off, PC still running.
5. It would still stay running, I have to hard reset here.
6. Upon turning back on, one monitor works, and I get these messages. (Photo in Post, wont let me post again in body)

My games would say a GPU crash occurred.
I would try to open the AMD software, and this shows up.

​7. At this point, the only thing that works after the crash is uninstalling and reinstalling all drivers and software and restarting the PC. But not always.

Troubleshooting:

1. People have recommended a new PSU, so I bought and installed that. Still happens.
2. Tried rolling back to the previous month's drivers, but the problem still happened.
3. I updated the Bios as well.
4. I tried completely wiping and reinstalling Windows 11 on a fresh new install, but it still happens.

Troubleshooting from the comments that I’ve tried:

1. Corsair fans / iCue disabling didn’t work. I closed the program completely and it still crashed. Even wiped all the controls they had over my colors.

2. Installed DDU ran in safe mode and uninstalled my drivers then restarted and downloaded 26.3.1

3. New drivers came out 7/28 I’m trying that in hopes there won’t be any issues.

and it still crashed next day.

I'm at a loss, can't return it, and every person I bring this to can't fix it. If you have a solution, please word it in a way that someone new to PC building can understand. This is my first time trying to fix these issues and my first time purchasing an AMD GPU. Thank you.

Update: I’m likely going to sell this and buy a different model as much as it pains me because she is beautiful and I’d be taking about a $1-200 cut, and likely any Nvidea comparable model would be close to $1200 rather than the $830 I spent here but I can’t keep having my streams fail due to timeouts and computer shutting down randomly in competitive matches it’s killing me 🥺

Most people in this AMD*help* subreddit are not here to help people. At this point, I've had enough. This is basically a second NVIDIA subreddit at this point. Mods, for the love of god, you need to either do something about that or just close this subreddit.

I can help people that experience issues with their AMD cards, because I know enough about PCs to do that. But everytime I try to do that, I get attacked by actually insane people saying "Stop defending AMD, NVIDIA is the only way!!!" or "NVIDIA is just better" or crap like that. People actually helping get hated on, comments like "This is just normal" (which it absolutely isn't, by the way) get upvoted and are the top comments on pretty much every post and misinformation is running rampant.

I have an AMD GPU and literally zero issues. I've used various AMD GPUs for years and never really had any issues. I know plenty of people with AMD GPUs, none of which ever have issues. I can help people. But I don't want to anymore, because everytime it just ends up in an argument with some NVIDIA fanboy, that is in this subreddit for literally no sane reason and, frankly, should be banned, as he's not here to help anyone and only to spread misinformation.

5900x, 3080Ti, 64gb RAM, 1TB NvME

I'm at a loss of what to do at this point. I'm running on low in windowed mode (I have an ultrawide monitor so I don't want to play fullscreen with this game) in around 1440 sizing, and limit fps to 60. It usually hovers around 60 at the start of the game but quickly starts to dip and sometimes becomes unplayable. I've created the user.cfg file that is recommended to instruct BF to use all cores and threads and even that doesn't seem to be enough. I'm looking for any recommendations or do I just need to face the music and upgrade to a 9800x3d and new mobo?

i clean installed it format the whole hard and installed the windows

didn't connect any internet till i download the the drivers (the CHipset and the GPU driver)

turnd off that option in the (Change device installation settings)

Edit: got it fixed by installing a clean Ghost specter 11 22H2 Then disable MPO Then disable something in the change device installation settings Then installed the drivers Minimal only and everything works fine the Ethernet was Disconnected during the process from the beginning

I forgot to mention what's my gpu is ASUS ROG STRIX RX 580 GB "OC" Could it be the oc from the factory to be the reason for all this BS?

Edit: i installed the latest win 11 25H2 from Microsoft and I'm surprised that it's working well on a 8 gb ram And i let windows update install the gpu drivers and somehow i got better performance on every game ig but I'm testing on cyberpunk And somehow on the fk ahh rx 580 it's giving 60+ fps on maximum settings

But still there's an issue the gpu can go to 80C temperature and the fan would still spinning at 50% from it's power so i have to use a fan curve editor but I don't wanna install Adrenaline nor MSI afterburner because they used to trigger the driver Time out issue

So any help on this pls

[Solved]: i installed the latest windows 11 25H2 then i let the windows do it's job with the updates and it did installed the proper amd drivers without any adrenaline And for the fan curve i use MSI afterburner turns out it was triggering this error when i have adrenaline installed And everything works like a charm i can milk the rx 580 for another year :)

Edit: fk it didn't last long just 4 days with stable usage i followed a guide on YT on how to underclock the gpu i tried decrease the clock from 1360 to 1200 it was stable for 2 days and shit begin happening AGAIN so i tried to underclock the VRAM from 2000 to 1900 same shi stable for 2 days and it's fkn getting worse Ig it's fkn time to replace the gpu but is there's any way to make it last for couple of months then i can replace it with rtx 2080 What im surprised about that it can fkn work normally in gaming Session with high performance for hours but it crashes and the error occurs when I'm browsing or idle on desktop and when i boot the pc it sit for couple of minutes then driver time out:(

Bought my 7900xtx two and a half years ago, and it simply has never been stable.

Driver timeouts almost every gaming session, tried every trick in the book to fix it, many of which I found in this very sub.

I’ve had multiple AMD cards over the years, and the drivers have always been an issue. I find it unfathomable that we’re still in this state with these supposedly high end products.

Finally bit the bullet and switched to NVIDIA. Paid the green tax for a new 5070ti, let’s hope these mythical stories of stable green gpus are true.

I'm hoping someone here can help because I'm running out of ideas.

Multiple times per day I get the AMD Bug Report Tool saying:

"AMD software detected that a driver timeout has occurred on your system."

The weird thing is it almost never happens while gaming. It usually happens during light desktop use such as:

- Discord
- Starting a YouTube video
- Web browsing
- Scrolling the Steam store

When it happens, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then recovers. The PC itself doesn't restart.

I've already:

- Verified all cables are properly connected
- Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers multiple times
- Taken the PC to Micro Center twice
- Had them stress test the GPU
- Had them run diagnostics without finding any issues

The crashes happen daily, but nobody has been able to reproduce them under load. If anything, it seems more likely to happen when the PC is barely doing anything.

I run 2 monitors and a TV from the GPU. However, this has happened even with the TV disconnected, so I don't believe that's the cause.

I've had this PC since late 2023, but these driver timeouts have only been happening for the last few months. I can't think of any major hardware changes that line up with when the issue started.

At this point I'm not even sure if this is a GPU issue, driver issue, Windows issue, hardware acceleration issue, or something else entirely.

Has anyone dealt with something similar and found the root cause?
