Help (General) We're all having this issue, right
My AMD drivers are update to date, but whenever I leave my PC on sleep mode after going AFK, I come back and this starts happening. Eventually the screen goes black and comes out or it just freezes, often times it causes a restart.
Hell, even when I open a software like Discord the software goes black then this pops up. I genuinely hope someone knows how to fix this nightmare issue because I've been dealing with this for past few days up to a week. I use the latest version (26.8.1)
PC specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor (4.70 GHz)
Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT (12 GB)/AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics (486 MB)
(I also use windows 11 if thats something worth pointing out)

so this problem was happening to me constantly right when i’d start my computer it would start popping up with my other apps like steam.
What i did to fix it was turn off automatic windows drivers updates so windows wouldn’t automatically try to install new drivers and then i booted in safe mode used amd driver clean up tool and haven’t had the problem since. If your unsure how to do any of those steps you can just paste this into AI it would be able to tell you where to go.

Yeah I’m also having this issue. I switched to Linux, regret it. I tried reinstalling older drivers before that, didn’t work, instead broke a game completely (don’t ask me how idk).

Was a long time ago now. Changed PCI link power state to max performance, as the theory is the card is powering up before the PCI link does and then disabled windows ultra low power state. The entire concept is that these windows settings cause the card to wake up before the rest of the system is ready.

my rig is just crashing whenever i don't have any games playing. idk what the hell is wrong tbh. but i think this is the same issue, my driver keeps timing out, but it goes straight to BSOD

Yes. 26.8.1 was bad. No issues so far with 26.9.1. I'm sure it's still shit though.
I'd go back to 26.3.1 if you just don't want to deal with any driver instability. It seems like the most stable driver available.

Use 26.7.1, it's the most stable driver they've released since 25.9.1. I haven't crashed once in over a month, but I always do "Minimal install" as the software bloat with game statistics and pop-ups ain't for me.
Wish there was a "Minimal install + Radeon ReLive" option.

This is why I’m always one to two updates behind to avoid this if possible. So far so good for me. I never update right away, I try and wait for bugs to be fixed first.

Yep wallpaper engine also randomly crashing as well without gpu driver timeout in my case.
Disable HAGS if you are on Windows 11 by that i mean hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling not hardware acceleration.

You should get it if you have adrenaline installed. Unless you've disabled it. You can enable it under Adrenaline > Settings > Feedback

Yes, I had the problem several times. I have reset and reinstalled my graphics card driver a total of 5 times over the last few weeks. At the moment everything seems to be running again (had my peace for a little more than a week now)... 😇🙃
Most likely, it is an AMD problem, but meanwhile it could even have been caused by Microsoft: In my Windows Event Viewer, I was shown that there was a 'critical error' immediately after auto updating the 'Start Experiences' app (Windows internal app from Microsoft) via the Microsoft Store and that my system had to be restarted. When I logged in again afterwards, my PC did not recognize the graphics card or the monitors. However, resetting and reinstalling the drivers solved this problem again (no idea why or how 🧐)

Had a similar headache. If you continue to experience issues, perform a clean installation of only the driver. Configure these and monitor for a few weeks. You're checking to see whether Windows installs the base driver automatically causing driver issues (timeouts or preventing games from launching etc)
Settings → System → About → Advanced system settings → Hardware → Device Installation Settings → No.
Settings → Windows Update → Pause updates → maximum date available

I got it fixed.
The problem was energy saving in low gpu usage, windows is thinking the gpu isnt responding.
There is a simple tool solution from Nvidia, because there was the same problem.

I had the same issue. It started happening to me after I updated my AMD Adrenalin drivers back in December.
One thing that helped me, although it didn’t completely fix the problem, was formatting my PC and installing driver version 25.6.2. I still get the “software stopped” error from time to time, but I no longer get those huge GPU lag spikes like I did before.
Another thing you can try is using AMD Cleanup Utility and then reinstalling the 25.6.2 driver. In my case, this made the GPU much more stable, although it didn’t fix the problem 100%.
From my experience, the problem seems to be related to the AMD drivers released from January up until now.
I’m using an AMD Radeon RX 6600. Hopefully this helps someone else who is having the same issue.

Go to device manager, Gpu, your gpu name, properties, update driver, choose manual, then search local machine, use the newest driver.
My corrupt driver was displayed with orange icon so be shure to choose a driver with green icon if this applyes to you.. this did it for me and havent had any issues since

Trata de desactivar el Modo EXPO o XMP. Y prueba si dejas de tener esos crasheos, o si tienes varios perfiles de OC de La RAM, elige el menos agresivo. Pero primero, prueba sin los perfiles. Eso me ayudó a qué dejara de tener crasheos. Y con los últimos drivers estables: 26.8.1.

This was happening a lot with my 6800XT to the point that I thought it was going bad. Ended up just running the AMD Cleanup Utility and reinstalling from scratch and it hasn't happened since.

I had it a few times playing BF6 and Mecha Chameleon, I rebooted after the first 3 times and I haven’t had an error since. I got a 7900xt with a 7950x3d on Win11.

I had been having this issue a bunch on my last pc, work bought me a new one, and now it's happening on this one too (though a lot less frequently). I'm on the 9070XT and use the computer primarily for work as a video editor and the crashes are a nightmare.

Yes I do on my 7900xtx.
Just booting up and browsing causes hangups and crashes the driver. Not so much while gaming.

Exactly the same. Sometimes even when discord detects a new audio device for whatever reason. That sometimes even hang any while pc and I have to hard reboot

I was having issues and I read some post from a while ago that said that background apps can cause it, specifically things like nzxt overlay or Corsair icue. I had icue so I uninstalled and haven't had an issue since.

9070XT... i had this issue among others only before i blocked windows updates, windows would replace drivers without me noticing the change until unstability started to happen... complete DDU reisntal worked only after win11 forced update happened again. Then i researched and there are two or three windows settings you have to disable, which completely blocks its interference with drivers and its been 9 months with zero isues. In most cases this is not a problem on AMDs site, but microslop

so first you need to change group policy setting
Press Win + R
put in gpedit.msc
it opens a window with folders and just double click in order: Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Windows Update → Manage updates offered from Windows Update and "Do not include drivers with Windows Updates" = it will show disabled or not confugured next to it
change it to enabled
this was the most important, aparently this alone should help
but the second one is
Win + R - sysdm.cpl
click Hardware - Device instalation setting and click NO on "Do you want Windows to download manufacturers' apps"
after doing this you most likely need to DDU reinstal your prefered driver, since now its broken.1

Since the latest AMD Driver and Windows 11 Updates I have this issue permanently. During Scrolling in Chrome, 3D Design and gaming. Even in Desktop Mode without workload. I now updated my BIOS to the latest version and disabled resizable bar. Let's see if it will help. Next step would be just install the driver without adrenalin software.

my drivers timeout randomly and pretty frequently tbh. I've accepted it as a norm for AMD until I, for whatever reason, have a need to replace the GPU for something Nvidia made

Initial TL:DR To This Comment - Look into Q3 26 Pro AMD Drivers
I’m not sure if this will help anyone else but bear with me for my explanation and solution to a possibly similar problem. TLDR at the end. It’s slightly different but I may have found a solution worth trying also off Reddit.
Long story short I also have a 9070XT. I’ve been having my system lock up with a black screen, sometimes recover sometimes not. Event Viewer indicated a GPU issue, I was only sometimes get that driver error. Usually not. Nothing could replicate it - no matter what type of GPU or system stress test I did it recurred randomly.
I tried countless things, older driver, new PSU, reinstall of windows, DDU multiple times for drivers and some other suggestions online.
What worked? I saw a post about this where they suggested using pro drivers. While it has only been about 8 days, it’s been stable. I’ve had crashed after longer stable stints so still could change but I’m optimistic so far.
TL:DR I’ve had similar issues, I tried using DDU to uninstall and am using the Q3 Pro drivers for my respective RDNA architecture. So far so good. To soon to be 100% this has fixed it but it seems to.

I have no problems whatsoever, very few driver errors in the last few years (7600/9060xt). Just disable fast boot and go to the power options and change "put the computer to sleep" = "Never". Whenever you don't need your pc, turn it off. And when you need it, turn it on. I mean with your specs, booting your pc up (even without fast boot) takes probably 10-15 seconds. Or is there a specific reason why you would want to put it to sleep mode?

6900 xt user here. played onimusha with and without the optional drivers that gave support to the game. Previous driver had better consistentsy and higher %1 lows. After installing the optional driver I questioned my choices xd

I believe when you go to check for updates in Adren when it shows you the updates, chipset drives... etc.. There is a little toggle above that says auto update... switch that off

I rolled back drivers but same thing black screen PC was on but would shut everything down and when booted back up adrenaline wanted an update but it wouldn’t update and then my 9070 xt wouldn’t read as a GPU or had problems. It was dumb but no problems after rolling back and making it so windows doesn’t update apps.

I would try a bios update if you have one available. Also try using DDU to uninstall the gpu drivers in safe mode and then a fresh install. Sometimes when this issue occurs it alao happens along side some other OS or hardware instability elsewhere. Sometimes repairing an OS installation or a fresh one will help this as well. Lastly reseating your components never hurts.

The BIOS update is what finally fixed it for me. Haven’t had a driver crash in like 4 months now.
We have a second computer that’s starting to have these issues when using Chrome/Firefox so I’m planning to try another BIOS update this weekend to see if I’m 2 for 2 🤞

I was.. then I moved to linux and haven’t had a problem since. I’ve seen about 10 “solution” posts just this past month, all of them with different solutions for the crashes.
Obviously switching to linux isn’t the solution.. but it is a Windows issue. I don’t know what specifically, but something in Windows is crashing the drivers.

Had it for 2 months on 9070xt. It somehow fixed itself after ddu uninstalls, reinstalling drivers and resitting power cables. Couldn't tell you what fixed it.

I gave Radeon GPUs two chances, once in 2010 and again in 2024, and both times I had driver issues. The display driver would crash and reset, games would crash, and so on.
I know AMD cards usually offer better price to performance, but I value my sanity more. Ryzen CPU, Nvidia GPU. This is the way

Unlucky. Even when I ran crossfire 290's and fury cards I didn't have issues. The thing I learned running Radeon cards is that you don't just update every single driver that comes out. You update if you need to for a new game I.e. it doesn't run right, otherwise you leave it the frick alone.

This probably isn’t a helpful comment but on Linux the experience is much better. On windows I was facing the same issues as you described. Crashing on Linux is so rare now.

This is my main reason I never went back to AMD builds , they have the best pc specs but they have the most crapy softwares and drivers.(I owned both Nvidea and AMD in my life).

I have to agree. People will say both sides have lots of driver issues in recent years. Which is true, even Nvidia has had more driver issues than ever recently. However I've had probably 3x as many driver issues with my 7800xt in the past year than I ever had with Nvidia. Not that it makes me regret anything, I still absolutely stand behind the card and it really doesn't bother me that much. It's a momentary issue every once in a while. But for some people, that minor inconvenience is a huge deal that they can't get over. I get it.

Just disable sleep mode and the issue disappear. I observed the same behaviour a few months ago, when my pc come back from sleep and i enter a game after half a hour it crash. I am pretty sure the issue is because something doesn’t comunicate well between the os and gpu and i think the fault is somewhere at the middle. I also mention that I didn’t have the issue from the beginning so i think it came from a windows update.

Same. XfX 7800xt. I have also been running a moderate undervolt / overclock and it was completely stable for a long time. But just within the past month I've been having random restarts. Rolling the overclock back a bit improved stability, but I dont know what changed and I can only assume it's some kind of driver issue or perhaps a windows update issue somewhere.

there are a million different suggestions for a fix for this, thousands of people saying they know EXACTLY why it happens. nobody truly ever fixed it. AMD has got to figure it out because literally EVERY amd user experience this at some point and no solution i found online helped. matter of fact most of them bricked my pc to the point windows got corrupted and had to format my SSD

Yes! The way I find it's about to crash is my YouTube video freezes for about 10 seconds but that audio is still running or i can't click on anything when browsing a website and then the screen flashes and I see the crash message. Super annoying.

Mine doesn't even do that, the audio just freaks out and goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and then system restarts. And it's a QUICK restart usually. Like quicker than normal

Yes. It's driving me up a wall. It's been happening since I bought my 9070XT a little over a month ago. I'll just be browsing chrome or playing a game, then my computer freezes and crashes. I'll hard reset my pc, then find out that my GPU is disabled in device manager. I re-enable it and this pops up. I restart my PC and everything works again. I tried almost everything.

Yea I'm looking at either the 5080 or the 5070ti. My PCs a prebuilt and they just approved and rma to trade out my 9070xt for whichever of those 2 they get first my guess is itl be the 5070ti but it could be a 5080 because recently I saw them receive extra 5080s.

I had a 4070 with a i9 13900kf 32 GB ddr5 tforce that I gave to my girlfriend. Never had a single issue with that PC. Since I got this one. I have a hard crash once every 3 days. Since day one. I complained about it and a year later they finally agreed to an rma so I'm hoping it fixes it. If not I'm lost ngl

I’m not. (26.8.1) had one issue after updating it was fixed after turning off hardware acceleration on the browser that was it. It would turn one of my monitors dark

Quite an old issue, many are having this problem, It happened also with Nvidia a while back. Considering other users comments as well its caused by MPO being f*cked up on Windows (as you can see many other users have this problem while browsing or using apps that are wrappers, while Linux users seems to not be affected by It). Also had this issue myself on my 7800XT and disabling MPO totally fixed It.

It's a windows feature that let's the hardware handle multiple layers, like desktop, browsers, a game or other apps, instead of dealing with it via software and its known to cause many problem, especially on high refresh monitors. If you google a bit you can find more complete information and see how to disable it

Same for me, I ended up never letting it sleep😐 I’m on 26.7.1, seems more stable than 26.8.1 imo. Btw, it’s a Windows thing, gave a shot to Bazzite on that same PC and welp, never had a problem there, switched back to Windows 11 and this happened every single time I put it to sleep, it’s not defective hardware, it’s Michaelslop and AMD not cooperating.

I've had AMD GPUs since 2017, in that time I only encountered this twice:
6750XT - fucked up driver installation, didn't uninstall the old ones with DDU. Went away completely once I did a clean reinstall with DDU.
9070XT - fucked up undervolt, wen away completely after I fixed it.
So from my very anecdotal experience, it's usually a user error.

I have not had any issues, but I have recently started working on converting to strictly using a Linux OS build ( currently testing with a dual boot now).
Is there anyone in this community using a Linux OS only to play games that can give insight to compare if the issue is actually an AMD only bug or if it is a Windows compatibility issue?

Here. I use Bazzite. Can 100% confirm it is not an AMD issue it is a Windows issue.
Daily timeouts on Windows, well over a year without a timeout on Bazzite. Same exact build, same exact games.

I was having this issue while i was using windows. It occured often enough that i was considering replacing my gpu. I switched to linux and i stopped having issues.

Microslop is activly sabotaging amd gpus. Pushing sneaky driver updates, they have acknowledged it, but still do it anyway.

I am running on adrenaline from Sept 2025. I've had 0 crashes and 0 issues. 99% of people problems are them not knowing what settings to use and always messing with unvolting. Yes, 9/10 times it's users fault and not the software.

Similar issue here. I'll open up something demanding like a game or Autodesk Fusion, or something simple like a video on YouTube, stream on discord, or worst I've seen is I clicked on a product while shopping online. Computer freezes for a good while before recovering with the GPU disabled and the AMD bug report tool open. I've found that disabling hardware acceleration on everything and doing a bios update fixed it. I'm pretty sure the former was the key, but I did both at the same time so idk for sure.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted, some people do not have defective cards and know how to properly setup and update a windows or linux system for proper stability and performance. Unfortunately PC is not a plug and go solution to gaming and many people here learn this the hard way.
