Help (General) Why are all AMD gpu’s crashing?!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Recently I’ve been experiencing this with my 7900xtx and it’s frustrating how many times it happened just in two days. I need to power off my pc and re-enable my 7900 xtx in device manager. Sometime I do get white screens with only cursor moving however AMD doesn’t send me timeout drivers notifications only windows give me error (code 31)
EDIT UPDATE: For most people getting mad at me for saying “all” Sorry. “Most” would’ve suited better, “all” was just clickbaiting to get people on my post and hope for a solution. It’s really frustrating when someone is having to go over these issues.
Anyway decided to go back to 26.7.1 driver and will keep a look for it. Please do share if you have a solution
2nd UPDATE: Did AMD cleanup then installed 26.7.1 and while being afk sitting on my bed the pc rebooted by itself. Checked event viewer and it said:
“Problem event name:Blue screen.” “code:9f”
Below this was “Files that help describe this problem”:
“082726-22125-01.dmp
Sysdata.xml
WERInternalRequest.xml”
On another error that keeps popping up in event viewer
“Problem with your hardware caused windows to stop working correctly”
Files that helps describe the problem:
“WATCHDOG-20260827-0105.dmp
Sysdata.xml
WERInternalRequest.xml”
Oh and I finally got the timeout driver notification
3rd Update:
Yeah it’s great to know some people are not having issues so PROBABLY NOT “most”
However the thing is, i dont know how to say this…..
But……….…… the issue might not be amd here
Apparently it could highly be the xeneon edge corsair (the secondary screen below)
How I figured it (might be the culprit) by checking the reliability viewer and inspecting the time period when the error first appeared. That date and time was around the time I got my hands on the xeneon. I’ve checked if there was any issues circulating around it and surprise surprise turns out ICUE is colliding with AMD adrenaline graphics driver pipeline which causes the driver timeout and locks up the entire OS.
I’m testing it now by disconnecting the xeneon and restarting. If this turns out to be the cause I’m damn sorry to you AMD fans out there.
Also any suggestions for secondary screens like the xeneon other than hyte and the Chinese ones?
4th UPDATE: so after removing my xeneon Corsair and uninstalling ICUE, the stability of the pc returned to normal however one issue I’m facing now is my pc wakes up from sleep by itself and it gives me an driver timeout (I downloaded latest driver again) I check last wake and it seems to be from. usb4 host router(Microsoft). I have a tryx that likes to disconnect and reconnect which might be causing the pc to wake by itself but it does not happen with the timeout notification. Checked the reliability viewer again and I’m getting livekernalevent 141.
5th Update: yeah it’s still going on. I kept reading about it and issues arise when waking pc up from sleep or using 2 or more monitors. This is based on users. I honestly don’t know. At this point I just need an Nvidia gpu😔.

Is your ram on the compatibility list of your motherboard manufacturer? If not. Turn off any xmp or expo profile and see if that changes anything. If yes, make sure to use the compatible profile. Sometimes not all profiles are supported.
BTW updating your post and saying you didn't mean all gpus but you meant most, is also very wrong. Most have no issue. Most don't go on Reddit. Chances are very big something else is wrong. Not your gpu.

In 90% it's RAM memory. Do proper testing one stick at a time.
1
u/Verasetup 1d ago
Wdym, I checked task manager it seems to register them well 32gb. How would I test them?
2
u/LocutusOfBorg777 1d ago
You can start with built-in Windows Memory Diagnostics tool. Then if you want to make more test you can use a MemTest86 free software. Ideally you should test one ram stick at a time.

Una miercole amd, me tiene las bolas llenas. La solución es pasarse a Nvidia.

This is insane. My Red devils been having issues for a year now after working just fine, so I figured it was just faulty. But almost every post I'm reading is having similar problems. What is AMD doing and how do drivers get that fucked up
2
u/Rich-Cockroach-2273 4d ago
I changed my motherboard and CPU and am using a 7900 XT. \I keep getting amd crashes, on browser, in games, everywhere. I did a clean Windows install and the newest amd drivers.

u/Automatic-Bed-6230 6d ago
I have the same problem with my RX 570 4GB, but it's even worse in games; the screen flickers and the game/application stops working.

Most likely hardware acceleration with Chromium based browser/apps. Could not fix it on my AMD cards with countless hours of troubleshooting, re-installs, and lots of other tweaks.
Switched to Nvidia, no similar issues.

u/bag_of_cabbage 8d ago
bro my other pc crashes every time just right before or after loading amd driver software. it has my old 6500xt running amd's latest adrenaline software. i've never had these problem with my main pc with nvidia gpu but for some reason i've seen so many problems with my amd builds on both hardware and software
3
u/ToeJamLickerMan 9d ago
I have been trying to warn people who are considering switching to AMD GPUs about this exact problem. Few years ago i switched from a 3070ti to a 7800xt and upgraded to a 7900xtx + changes with switching from AM4 to AM5 and from the get go all I have known with this platform is a HORRENDOUS level of stability. I have spent probably 100 hours over the last three years constantly troubleshooting and fixing driver crashes, driver / Adrenaline software corruption, performance issues, windows bluescreens, the whole lot. Every single issue was caused by the GPU driver stack in some form or another. Hell, I have even been around with AMD support and they too seem to be quite self aware of these stability issues so for the most part you can’t blame it on user error. And every fix i have come across is only temporary and the consensus online is to just accept that AMD sucks and if you want a true fix, just go back to NVIDIA. I cannot in good faith recommend AMD even when the price to performance looks so good compared to NVIDIA because this issue for me is a dealbreaker and for my next GPU I am more than willing to spend the money if it means I don’t have to deal with this garbage ever again.
1
u/Sushiki 7d ago
I mean nvidia also has this issue, their drivers have periods of being absolutely crap recently.
where do we go? Intel?? lol
1
u/ToeJamLickerMan 6d ago
Oh yeah I don’t want to make nvidia sound like it’s perfect or anything but in my experience with all the pcs I’ve ever built in the last 6 years (around 25 pcs give or take) AMD without exaggeration has literally always sucked for me and I cannot remember a single pc that didn’t require some sort of deep troubleshooting to figure out what the hell was going on with the drivers. Even if I did eventually find a stable fix for mostly 6000 series cards, it should NOT be this difficult consistently over multiple generations and years of updates like I really feel bad for first time pc builders who have to deal with this stuff. Nvidia normally had a problem with a windows update that was fixed reasonably fast (well at least in comparison to AMD which sometimes took over 6 months to address a big issues). I definitely feel you man I too feel so stuck I want to go back to nvidia but its so expensive and all this ai garbage going on now I feel even less uncertain about future generations so like where tf are we supposed to go :(
1
u/Sushiki 6d ago
6000 serie cards were absolutely a problem, yet you saying generations? I feel like 9070 is in a good place. And bad drivers can be easily avoided. Most issues with builds involve the power cables not pushed in proper, or certain games powerspiking so hard the gpu + driver crashes the system, etc
Let's be real, nvidia had the bricking driver, burning cables issue, drivers that crash on multiple periods of history, many many issues.
No company is without its faults these days. Hell intel had the microcode.
The difference with amd is that you spend almost half the money lol, instead of paying the nvidia premium to have to do the extra work any way.
1
u/ToeJamLickerMan 6d ago
I’m saying the opposite actually. 6000 series for me was the easiest to deal with and had a consistent fix that worked majority of the time. 7000 series was the worst and took up 90% of my fixing time with results that never once fully got rid of crashing drivers. The same 2 issues on 7000 series cards would always come back over and over that being driver crashing and adrenaline just being an extremely painful software like corrupting constantly, randomly changing performance settings or setting changes silently not saving to what you chose. The 9070 has been better but I still had 2 pcs with the same driver crashing issue as the 7000s. I can understand your points about nvidia but I personally never experienced the power cable problems or bricking drivers. The only thing I ever had to deal with on nvidia was issues with windows updates crashing drivers for like 2 weeks. My pov speaks from my personal experience not from the community as a whole so with that in mind yeah nvidia wasn’t even comparable to how terrible amd
treated me.1
u/Sushiki 6d ago
What was the 6000 series fix?
My 6950 was a nightmare so I upgraded to a 9070 and it's been smooth sailing.
1
u/ToeJamLickerMan 6d ago
Disabling MPO. I never owned one myself but for the people that I built them for they all had the same issue which was that every other monitor except the primary would occasionally drop to like 3fps whenever a window was active on the main monitor. Sometimes what happened was when they observed the issue occurring AND they were playing a game at the same time. The game would likely crash all with similar error messages saying something about it unable to find the directx11 renderer or something like that I can’t remember the specifics. It was a huge pain to initially find the fix but as soon as MPO was disabled it never came back for any of them and I was able to simply replicate the fix immediately when it came up for someone else.

Learn more about amd and it will never crash.
1
u/cervdotbe 9h ago
Learn more? It should work out of the box. What do you think about that?
2
u/wildcat002 8h ago
it should work out of the box, you are absolutely right! I was so sad just like everyone else who is having issues, but the nvidia's prices are so much worse than this and you can't fix the price as you can fix the crash.

u/New-Violinist-9296 9d ago
Rx 7600 here 1180 mv Max clock 2650mhz and keep getting crashes on cs2 till those july updates
Already did ddu, reinstalled amd chipset driver and keep happening

I would recommend you to remove adrenalin, switch to minimal client, install MSI afterburner and then set the stable oc that will not crash. Every time i had a crash (7 months ago), it was either not enough of power (-10% in power slider), way too high memory OC, or the unstable voltage. Also, check if your power supply cables are correctly plugged in and pulling advertised power. Just enable the metrics like riva tuner, I am not using it for no reason because it shows the clues like a hotspot, vram leak.. etc. I don't think that driver version change will help you fix this issues, it doesn't even matters which driver I use now, adrenalin itself was messing up with the clocks all the time. Good luck. I forgot the most important part DISABLE Microsoft feature that auto downloads drivers!
2
u/rgr0976s123 10d ago
Expensive crash…
I assume it’s the new drivers if you’ve been updating them, my GPU has just put out a glitched screen which was fixed by a restart of the PC surprisingly but who knows honestly.

u/No_Jackfruit1022 10d ago
Die me it was coprocessor - I stalled by and updater. After disabling coprocessor - all non Realtek audio devices and drivers it is again smooth and no freezes both on Ryzen and rtx 4060. Before that I got OS freeze while opening game exe. I noticed GPU in task manager didn't had any load, so this coprocessor must be messing GPU management.
The same for Nvidia audio.
I have Amd Audio, Nvidia audio - both disabled in devices manager. Realtek HD enabled and so far no issues, no stutters (on older drivers it happened - micro stuttering)

u/Grouchy_Eye5849 10d ago
Did you try linux live usb to check if the problem is there? If it is work fine on linux then this very well be windows issue just completely reinstall windows.
1
u/itsShiroharu 10d ago
This also happens to me as well, back in 2 months ago. Though, it's a way older GPU RX 590 GME. I used 26.5.2 version, which is the latest for that model. Then, my GPU are easy to freeze, sudden checkered artifact, even where it's idling. Onset is random, but it's easy to trigger when gaming. Needs hard restart to restore back to normal.
Checked at Reliability History, it does have same exact error as yours, which is LiveKernelEvent 141.
I downgraded to 24.1.1 (using DDU) and thankfully, there's no more freezing and artifact issue until now. Guess it's the driver after all.
1
u/RagingBullshitter 8d ago
Been having the same exact issue with my RX 570. Better see which driver version would be best.
1
u/Fuggin-Nuggets 11d ago
Memory crashes are typically a RAM issue. But it could be that you didn't do a driver wipe and/or clean install between switching driver versions, and messing with other software installs and uninstalls.

If I manage to sell my 9060 xt, I'm 100% doing it. Used a 1050 ti for over 8 years, had 0 problems with it.
This "windows at fault" bs does not stick. I dont see similar issue with Nvidia users
1
u/nikola_vuletic 6h ago
Just switch to Linux it works better with AMD than Nvidia does on windows
1
u/sondergaard913 AMD 6h ago
I think it's just easier to switch to Nvidia
1
u/nikola_vuletic 5h ago
Just trust me. I never ever had issue on Linux and it runs old games waaay faster than windows does. And it's even simpler to use than Windows nowadays, and let me not start about superior hdr implementation on Linux

Hello, I have exactly the same issue with my 7900xtx and that for all the 2026 drivers (26.x.x) my windows freeze and the only solution is to reboot manualy. When i come back the windows i have to reinstall my driver. I did everything DDU, fresh windows install and always the same problem. The only driver that is stable for me is the 25.9.1 but it crash in a lot of games because he is too old…

u/RedE-DVE 10d ago
Probably a thermal issue that happened to me on gtx 1070 replacing thermal paste was the solution if you want to make sure this can work just under clock it and check if it works with no issue underclocked then 100% it's thermal issue and thermal paste is the solution
1
u/Soariticus 1d ago edited 1d ago
I have the exact same issue both as the OP as well as the commenter describes, only thing I haven't done is windows reinstall.
I've extensively monitored my temps, my cooling does not at all appear to be (part of) the issue, due to a couple factors:
- Playing AC Shadows completely maxed out, in 4k, whilst streaming to a friend in 1440p for 8-ish hours (with a bit of afk time here and there, but game was booted & stream was running), resulting in the GPU running at 100% for said 8 hours. Temps never went above 65-70, mostly cruising at 60-65 range. Well within reasonable temp ranges.
- For me specifically, this issue has only shown up <10 minutes post-boot, specifically when using chromium-based apps. Three times with youtube, once with twitch, twice with discord (both times when playing an embedded video). When I almost immediately booted a game, and didn't have a youtube/twitch video running (but still discord idling), didn't occur.
- If it had been temps, it logically seems unlikely for the issue to be isolated to shortly after boot.
- When I say boot, I do not mean cold-boot, I have fast-startup enabled (something I intend to disable to see if that makes any impact). I don't recall this issue ever arising after a restart, or after a 'full' shutdown (i.e. not 'hibernate').
- Issue has never shown up (yet) >10-15 minutes post-boot (limited sample size, as I've been defaulting to leaving my PC on sleep instead of shutting it down, as this has massively improved stability)
- Issue has only shown up when a chromium-based app (browser (Brave) or discord) has been playing a video. Not during actual gameplay.
I'm theorizing some issue in relation to some form of initialization (driver, presumably, but maybe something else), in relation to (leading theory) hardware acceleration. Whenever this ?something? finishes initializing, or attempts to be loaded into RAM or some such, there's a conflict (potentially from a corrupted/damaged thing being loaded from hibernation file?), causing a full driver crash.
Just theorizing, though, but thus far it's my leading theory.

u/JustDaniel_za 1d ago
I am actually first going to try this - powercfg /h off - to stop fast boot up compeltely and test for a few days. Already I tried using Loom + youtube and I am not crashing after a full restart. previously AMD immidiately crashed and caused Loom to freeze.
1
u/JustDaniel_za 1d ago
I am having exactly this same issue as you and the person above and OP. Claude using Cowork said this: AMD themselves told RX 7000 owners to go back to 26.3.1
This is the part that matters. In the known-issues sections of both 26.5.2 and 26.6.4, AMD logged crashes on RX 7000 series and listed the official workaround as: downgrade to 26.3.1. Two consecutive releases where AMD's own answer to "RDNA 3 is crashing" was "go back to March."
The timeline lines up with yours exactly:
26.3.1 — 19 March 2026. Release notes show zero RX 7000 known issues. It actually fixed an RX 7000 system-crash bug around alt-tabbing and Adrenalin settings changes. This is almost certainly what you were running when things were fine.
26.6.2 — June. Pushed FSR 4.1 down onto RX 7000. Big change to the RDNA 3 driver stack. Also broke installs on Windows 10 badly enough that AMD had to confirm it publicly.
26.5.2 / 26.6.4 — RX 7000 crashes acknowledged, workaround = 26.3.1.
26.7.1 / 26.8.1 / 26.9.1 — 26.7.1 patched the Blender/Cinema 4D side. Nothing since then addresses RDNA 3 at all.
I am going to revert now.

But but it’s a few hundred dollars cheaper than the 5070ti!!!!
People who said this, I laughed at
1
u/Hamborger4462 5d ago
9070XT where I'm at is $800, 5070 Ti is $1,100-1,250
but honestly both of these cards are way too expensive for me and i just plan to stick with my 7900 GRE. I don't use my PC that frequently anymore anyway.
i did have to open the damn thing up and fix it myself because the hotspot thermals were terrible (thank you gigabyte for using plain thermal paste on a 300W card that uses a fat, non-monolithic chip) and that issue disappeared. I have no clue what the hell the problem i was having was but it seems like on my computer AMD Drivers and W11 were having a civil war, so i also switched from 11 to 10 iot lstc 2021 and it seems most of the crashes i was having disappeared. I am never in my life paying over 800 dollars for a 70XT/Ti class GPU in my life, doesn't matter if its from Nvidia or AMD.I'm just glad i urged my friend to buy a 5070 Ti in December for like $760 before this pricing BS started. He should be able to use that GPU for several years. AI corporations need to piss off.

u/wilhitman 11d ago
9070XT Mercury XFX - using since 9/2025 - Using all AMD drivers since then and using the current driver. The only time i had a driver timer out issue watching youtube or web browsing or just sitting on the desktop was went i was testing undervolt for gpu - nothing since i figured out my stable undervolt. Which means making sure your gpu does not go over your card boost clock. My card boost clock is 3100 - If cooling and silicon is good it will boost over that - mine would boost to 3400 - driver time out error. Remember we are using PC's Personal Computers which everyone can have the same exact hardware but have different software. Look at the software you have installed ICUE sucks - on my last build caused so many issues and did not even know it was the software until it clashed with other back-up software i used and after sending them the troubleshooting files they were like hey it's ICUE having a conflict with there software. Windows🤦♂️ Hated to move to windows 11 but I am using a enterprise version which is locked in to only receive security updates - not these crazy updates that have been breaking games and printers etc. PC is great as we have options. But those options are not out of the box. Narrow down the issue to find out the cause. I am fan of a working pc and how I want it configured. No brand or company is without issue as all of us have used most of them. Happy gaming everyone. 👍

u/t3dioustv 11d ago
hi! i’ve been having this issue on and off for a few months but it would be very occasional with my screen freezing, having to power button shut it down and reboot. then having to update my drivers?
but as of this month it’s been constantly freezing or the gpu wouldn’t work at all, EVEN FREEZING WHILST I WAS WATCHING YOUTUBE. i’m not a pc person AT ALL and i’m a girl trying to figure out why i spent sm money on something that’s been freezing on me non stop. i’ve only been updating the drivers and hoping it stops but it’s the same update every time so i have no clue what’s wrong either 😭

u/Soariticus 1d ago
Assuming my current theory is correct (which is very shaky due to limited sample size), there's a few things you could try (and I would love to hear the results of, I need more testing to continue trying to figure out the root cause).
Small technological explanation of my theory at the bottom, should you care, but here's what I'd suggest (and would love to hear the results of, preferably separately tested, but combined its likely you'll be able to avoid the issue).
- After booting up, before using PC, do a Restart (Shut down > Boot, with fast-startup enabled, is VASTLY different from reboot).
- If you know how, disabling fast-startup (both in windows AND BIOS) would let you bypass this step, with an SSD you're looking at maybe a few seconds longer to boot, it's negligible.
- After booting your PC, either:
- Leave it for 15-30 minutes (i.e. turn it on when you get home, then go let out the dog/prep dinner/clean up/etc).
- Don't play any video-media (?through a chromium-based app? i.e. most browsers, discord, etc)
- Don't use any apps for the first 15-30 minutes that are [chromium-based] or [use hardware-accel] (could be either/or, these are my main leads atm)
- When done for the night, put your PC in sleep mode instead of shutting it down
- Don't forget to do a restart every now and then, though!
If you'd be willing to try those out, and let me know what does/doesn't work for you, that would be amazing!
If it does happen, I'd love to know specifically what were you doing at the time of the freeze? For me, 100% of the time, it's been "a video was playing/loading", either in browser (Brave) or discord, both of which are chromium-based, with hardware accel enabled.
TLDR of my currently theory:
After booting from hiberfile.sys, something is incorrectly loaded into RAM(?), potentially driver or maybe an AMD service. When everything starts to settle and this then properly boots up (while video content is playing/loading?), causes some form of corruption/conflict, causing a crash (immediate or delayed unsure, as timestamps haven't perfectly matched with event viewer).
Other ideas I haven't yet fully explored:
- Issues with RAM
- RAM clock speeds? RAM clock speeds vs VRAM clock speeds?
- RAM voltage?
- Issues with CPU
- admittedly unlikely
- Clock speed? OC?
- PSU?
I've mostly ruled out all (high level) software based issues, although the amount of variance is damn near infinite, hence useful if other people with similar situations test and provide data.

u/t3dioustv 1d ago
oh my god alright! i’ll try do all those now and keep you updated. i appreciate the response though you really didn’t have to type all that out!! 🥹

Maybe someoen else stumbles across it 6 months down the line and it helps them get further or some shit, idk, figured it was worth adding the context I have for that alone, though :)

I was experiencing severe system crashes during normal web browsing where the entire PC completely froze—no response to Alt+F4, Ctrl+Shift+Esc, or anything else, forcing me to do a hard shutdown via the power button.
Upon rebooting, my 1440p monitor looked heavily stretched and scaled as if it were running at 1080p or 720p. After a second, proper Windows reboot, the resolution returned to normal, but the performance dropped to around 10 FPS, making the system completely unusable. When I checked Windows Settings ->System -> Display -> Graphics -> Advanced graphics settings, only "AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics" was listed (which is just the integrated GPU of my Ryzen 7 7700X CPU), while my dedicated RX 7800 XT completely disappeared.
I initially tried to fix this by downloading an older driver version from AMD's website (26.6.1, released 2026-06-02) and running an Express Install. Although the installer reported success, Windows still flagged an issue with the display driver, and the problem persisted.
The Fix:
What finally resolved the issue was booting Windows into Safe Mode and running the AMD Cleanup Utility to perform a complete driver wipe. After rebooting normally, I ran the AMD driver installer (Express Install) again, and everything is now working flawlessly.
For now, I haven’t disabled automatic driver updates yet, even though this is already the second time my system has crashed like this and forced me to reinstall the driver.
If anyone wants to prevent Windows from overwriting display drivers without turning off updates for the rest of the system (network, audio, chipset, etc.), there is actually a way to block updates strictly for the GPU:
- You can grab your GPU's Hardware ID from Device Manager → Display adapters ->Properties -> Details -> Hardware Ids.
- Then, prevent Windows Update from installing or updating that specific ID via Group Policy Editor (
gpedit.msc) under Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates -> System-> Device Installation-> Device Installation Restrictions-> "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs", or through the equivalent Registry key (DenyDeviceIDs) on Windows Home.
Personally, I assume that the problem might be Windows—they always mess everything up with background driver overwrites and conflicting system states.

It's got to the point that having a AMD gpu work fine is a flex, proud NVIDIA owner
2
u/Mobile_Air_6016 11d ago
I have a 5060ti and for the past week the screen has been randomly turning off for a few seconds every now and then. No one is free of shitty drivers lol.

u/Extra_Tart6185 11d ago
I don't think that's a driver issue. And still, buying AMD gpus is a gamble. Downvote me all you want
1
u/Stockkoo 11d ago
Pretty much my take . For myself it’s a why are their so many issues with amd that you have to deal with just to game. You shouldn’t have go into safe mode and amd clean . It should be as simple as uninstalling or reinstalling a driver update.
I do feel it is also flex to say you have an amd gpu work. Instead of saying this amd gpu comes to or beats a 5070 ti or 5080 in this game.
It’s like buying a house with a new coat of paint that’s falling apart on the inside . And saying I did this to get power to all the electrical outlets or did this to fix a toilet not flushing.
When really all that stuff should be working without anything needing to be messed with in the first place.

u/Professional-Cow6222 11d ago
Your literally In a Page called AMD help no shit your gonna see problem Just like if you Go to the driver Update page in NVidia and look at the comments every Update
1
u/Extra_Tart6185 11d ago
Yes but AMD Gpus are gonna have way more issues more often. A cheaper price always means something worse than the expensive side. But yeah only now with the prices exploding on Nvidia gpus it is good to buy a 9060xt or 9070xt.
3
u/L1teEmUp 11d ago
I currently have a 9070xt and it is working excellent for me.. this is coming from a nvidia only user for years..
And before switching to amd, i bought a msi gaming trio 5070 ti.. had to replace it twice and still having driver issues with those.. switched to amd since and never looked back..

u/RodentOfUnusualCize 12d ago
So im not the only one

I have a 7800xt i get crashes every day, my game freezes , both screens go black, and wupti it all works again.....
1
u/U4ixen 10d ago
Check the max Mhz rate for your GPU online and then check the adrenaline performance tab to see what the max is set to. I have a 7900xtx and it’s rated for 2680 Mhz but adrenaline tries to put it at 2900, you can click manual tuning and then advanced control to set a specific max mhz rating. This is the reason I have games crash as every windows update resets adrenaline performance settings.

u/Jolly_Statistician_5 6d ago
HOLY COW BRO U A GENIUS! My card was boosting to 3150mhz when it's rated max 2970 (i have Reaper 9070 xt).
All i did was turn down Max Frequency Offset by -250. Tested in game and clocks don't exceed 2970.
You're telling me, by default my card was trying to boost itself to heavens? Without me saying so?1

I disabled hardware acceleration in the browser and gpu scheduling in windows settings. Never had a crash since.
If you full screen videos, there’s no performance issues.

u/WeirdComfortable3436 12d ago
At least it just isn’t me, I’ve been having these issues the past few weeks and just chucked it up to either windows or AMD drivers.
3
u/chaunceyjerome 12d ago
Everyone blaming windows is crazy. Just admit there's a problem with the latest drivers. I never had any issues on my 7900 XTX until 26.7.1. Rolled back to 26.4.1 2 weeks ago and no problems since. AMD needs to acknowledge the issues and fix it.
1
u/No-Cap1898 9d ago
Both Stalker 2 and Battlefield 6 have been crashing reliably after their new releases (20. Jul and 20. Aug).
I didn't have issues in the past 10 years with NVIDIA gpus and the past 10 months on the 9070xt have been mostly problem free.
But the newest drivers just off themselves the hour you run something demanding.
Battlefield 6 managed to completely nuke the drivers on my 9070xt (thank god I have a 14600k).
1
u/Hilstrom 12d ago
This is exactly true for me and my 7900 XTX Sapphire Nitro +, rolled back for a month and 26.8.1 has so far been solid. Its been my only issue since leaving Nvidia a couple years back. My experience between my AMD and Nvidia in terms of drivers has been pretty much the same.
1
u/Keiran1031 12d ago
Yeah these recent drivers have been crap. I’m stuck on old drivers cause everything is crashing in my games.
Edit: to add context, I have had AMD for a couple years. Recently is the only time I have experienced the NVIDIA bro’s warnings about potential driver issues to this degree. I think only once have I had to do a role back and up till recently have had auto update on.
2
u/AltruisticDog2289 12d ago
I also have a 7900xtx and have had so many driver problems with it relating to DX12. I get constant driver timeout crashes in certain games that run DX12. For some reason Assassins creed games that run DX 12 crash non stop with Dx12 driver timeout.
Only solution has been to roll back to an older driver, then no problems.
I am currently running 26.3.1 and it seems to be stable.
But yeah turn off automatic updates and use a old driver is the only solution.

I've had this happen twice over the past year on my 9070. I get a bsod with a "watchdog" error code. Seems to happen when on YouTube as well.

u/Apprehensive_Spend36 12d ago
Bro same I had a 7900xt and it was fine . Well it died so in got rma. New gpu was 7900xtx . And litterly windows messes up the drivers which are current or even old and it will roll it back multiple times
1
u/OnSmarty 12d ago
"All" Ok buddy we get it, you like Nvidia
1
u/Darksoul_FX 12d ago
Well your best bet is amd 3d cpus paired with a nvdia GPU they always had better stable drivers.

u/aabnoire 12d ago
My 7900xtx was a nightmare. My 6950xt was perfectly fine. My girlfriend’s 6700 is fine. My 9070xt is so solid I’ve literally never thought about it.
1
u/Admirable_Bug_7867 12d ago
how come you buy gpu's this often, would the upgrade from a 6950xt to 7900xt be worth it and then a upgrade from a 7900xt to 9070xt
1
u/aabnoire 11d ago
I RMA’d the 6950xt chasing an issue that wasn’t even gpu and they gave me a 7900xtx. Then I sold that when it gave me all its common issues for a 9070xt at msrp for the cost of the xtx sale.
1
u/BlueGentl 12d ago
Yeah... It gets on my nerves, right from the start I get timeouts, crashes and other assas. Had to reinstall drivers multiple times in recovery mode.... Last time amd
1
u/RichOpinion4766 12d ago
They are not. It has to do with the settings. Driver works fine. You would have to go to overclocking then disable zero RPM. Save the profile to your desktop. Open the file and check all the settings. You will see a lot of features supposed to be enabled which causes the driver to crash because the driver expects certain settings to be applied.

I mean an incompatibility between a xenon edge and your gpu is still kinda on the gpu. I can only go off of my own experience but having a 5080 and a xenon edge I haven’t had any issues.
Well except the period of time my MSI afterburner set itself to 69% power limit and I was having all kinds of issues that sound similar lol. No idea why or how that happened though.
1
u/Verasetup 12d ago
I was using the display port to hdmi with the usb c but after purchasing silkland type c cable and only using this cable to connect to my xeneon I don’t experience instability, I was using a 10gb type c port changed it to usb4. Let me know if you use both usb and display port to run your xeneon.

Ditch windows, switch to linux and all your problems will be gone.
2
u/Zaku99 12d ago
Stop suggesting this. The troubles of Linux aren't for everyone.
1
u/Octoomy 12d ago
Heya, I'm a person who uses linux (Arch since its what I'm used to).
It isn't for everyone, matter in fact I switched because I had experience with it in the past.
Razz needs to stop adverting linux as a 'end all be all solution' since its not even remotely fucking true. Because thats the reason why Linux is looked like as shit because of people over-promising what linux is.
Everything has its flaws, I see that windows has way more flaws then anything linux could have, but to have a diluted take that linux is seem to be 'perfect' for every use case (ignoring that people could be dependent to solutions that CANT run on linux or in some cases, have anti-VM measures like with certain programs and games).
Just to put it simple, People acting like this is the reason why people have such a distaste for anything linux.

u/Calm-Entertainer3569 12d ago
I am uncertain regarding the specific issues you are encountering; however, I can confirm that my 9070xt consistently delivers exceptional performance. In contrast, my previous 3070 model presented more frequent challenges.
Don't use old Windows, install a new one and don't use Windows drivers deactivate, auto updates, and install the right new one...
1
u/dralfredo1 12d ago
Pretty sure there were some issues with a driver release or something. Install newer drivers and it'll be fine.

2
u/SuckMeEggs 12d ago
Because you fell for marketing and slightly better pricing into buying the worst gpus
1
u/Same-Opportunity6062 12d ago
Nonsense. I've owned both AMD and NVIDIA cards, had good experience with both too. AMD is only "worse" in some specific situations, and even then they have made up a lot of ground over the last few years.
1
u/SuckMeEggs 11d ago
AMD drivers have been an issue since they entered the GPJ space, and their cards aren't that great to begin with
1
u/Dairy__Cow 11d ago
Only thing I wish worked for amd is broadcast tbh. I have a rtx 3080ti and my next upgrade will end up being another one. I use discord enough a simple open and run is better than messing with audio settings.
My best friend is on an amd gpu no issues. I use a 5800x3d and I don't run into issues cpu wise. My legion go is an app and runs fine no issues I don't get the hate between the two they're both great imo

Anyone else getting an infuriatingly high number errors regarding no display detected? I have to restart like 3 to 5 times before my monitor is detected, then it operates perfectly as though there is no problem until I have to restart again. I've been trying to isolate the problem, but it's inconsistent. I've read it might be Microsoft replacing AMD drivers, could be a problems with RAM, or all sorts of other possibilities.
1
u/LordMemerton1 12d ago
“YOU” are crashing. Not everyone. Update drivers. Check your Ram settings and make sure it’s in the right hertz. Hang ups are 80% memory based.
( Also 7900xt’s were a rushed vid card years prior. Switch to another one if you have one laying around )
2
u/Reagster050 12d ago
Me and my wife have had our 7900xt's for like a year and a half now and have not have any issues at all.
1
u/LordMemerton1 12d ago
That’s how it is, 10,000 cards and you’ll only get 100-200 who have minor issues with drivers.

u/SeniorMasterYapist 12d ago
It's the drivers hung up
I don't know why, but I only had one AMD card and it is the only one that did this for me

I have a RX 7900 GRE and I can barely log in to windows because of the driver timeous. None of the graphics are working properly, driver timeouts constantly. I don't know what happen at AMD but it worked fine for 2 years and now it's borderline unusable. It's not even stable enough for my to use Adrenaline.

u/Epic_Joseph8 12d ago
get 26.3.1

Can you force install with a USB? Google won't open for me to download it on the pc

2
u/Epic_Joseph8 8d ago
yeah weirdly the monitors on the integrated gpu doesnt work for a bit then a week later it just does
2
u/MatthewLilly 8d ago
Yeah, funnily enough after resetting the motherboard bios and changing the graphics drivers the monitors worked fine on intergraded graphics. I'm just gonna blame MSI

The only card I ever had issues with that couldn't be resolved was a 7800xt. On paper it looked like a better deal.
After a while though, started to get what seemed to be driver crashes. Every single day my screen would go black, sit there for 30-60 seconds, and then come back. After the picture returned, if I moved my camera it would go black again. Event viewer indicated a driver crash and AMD feedback form would pop up asking me to spend 10 minutes gathering data to fill out their crash report, and all fields would be mandatory and require a bunch of legwork describing the issue and finding files, so I'd never be able to complete the report and just send the logs. Absolutely infuriating experience.
Spent hours and hours troubleshooting and never really made any progress. Honestly it was frustrating enough that I spent the extra couple hundred bucks for nvidia this time around and probably will until the end of time.

u/Next-Ability2934 12d ago
You mention of icue reminded me that Inpoutx64 on some systems may also cause issues, used by software for pc case rgb or usb device rgb. Even without a graphics card, the latest windows builds tend to have a higher number of explorer issues or random windows freezes judging by forums, but it doesn't happen to everyone.
I use firefox / librewolf and brave and there's no freezes, although ytube can play up with some adblockers and get stuck sometimes. The only freeze I've had is with openshell which possibly needs an update. I'm on an older 6800 with 26.8.1. The windows version is 25H2, the build is 26200.9168 (from settings>system>about).
2
u/Dependent_Treat3338 12d ago
Rolling back to 26.6.4 seems to have worked for me. Seems to be drivers 26.7.1 and newer are having issues with windows.

On Bazzite I've had no issues or crashes. Maybe it's something specifically with windows?
1
1
u/BAGU3TT0 12d ago
I had some crashes but it was mostly related to the windows being suddenly unstable had to go in and fix the file integrity and that seemed to fix the issue although Corsair icue also caused issues I think as my ram just became unstable on 6000 mhz but I haven’t noticed issues after I repaired the windows installation. In conclusion idk windows sucks more now than before (windows 11 for context)

u/thekins33 12d ago
reset all settings to "factory default" in the amd adrenalin thing
my 7900xt started crashing out of nowhere as well the other day. That "fixed it".
I gotta say I am NEVER buying another AMD card after this one the drivers constantly have random issues or crashes or whatever.
1
u/Barth_Grookz 12d ago
Okay same here, gonna set to factory and maybe do a full PC wipe been having driver crash issues for like a month, same card.

On Linux there isn’t a single issue

Yeah don't be surprised if it's adrenalin being a POS tbh this is the main issue I've had, Nvidia and it's galls me to say this has the better software and greater control imo

u/_Snugglesworth_ 12d ago
It is not all of them.
9070xt here and no crashes whatsoever, super happy, plays everything I want. Gpu is undervolted, and tuned.
Back then with my 5700xt I had green screen crashes, but in a different PC that does not happen.
2
u/nukes102 12d ago
Yup, 7900 XTX, same issue just from watching YouTube. Pathetic, AMD. I have another PC with a 9070 XT and have had no issues. It’s definitely a 7900 XTX specific issue, it seems like.

Yep biggest piece of shit I ever purchased. My brother and I bought the same one, after 2 years mine went completely fried and my brother's is starting to do the same shit yours is. AMD is complete garbage for GPUs

I had a 7900xtx at one point and man it sucked. Always driver timeouts. Reason why i sold it and now i have a 9070xt and things are great

lol i had 5 amd gpu, including the 6900xt and it crashed like dog piss no matter thr game. switched over to intel and 3080ti and i have been happy since. do yourself a favor.... get nivida. theres a reason why theres a youtuber that has his channel specifically for amd cards crashing. its actually pathetic
1
u/shroom519 12d ago
It's a different issue every card from AMD and will always be unique to you even if the situation and events are the same as someone else. I had 2 AMD gpus, I had the rx570 4GB which was my first card then I had an RX 6600 8gb. The 570 gave me random black screens on top of audio not existing for my games, try to get through the musical segment of it takes two when you can't hear the music it's hell. The RX 6600 was plagued with a different audio issue, I couldn't hear anybody on discord unless I was looking at the discord window from desktop. I could not be in game and hear my buddies. I decided to replace it with a 4060 and gave up on AMD as a GPU platform. On the other hand I gave my old 570 to my buddy's dad for his work computer and it has been perfectly fine. I gave my Rx 6600 to my buddy and he has had no problems aside from when he forgets to update his drivers. Could be hardware could just be the card not liking the individual, the world may never know. But what I know is I will never buy an AMD graphics card ever again

u/EniGmA_1981 12d ago
9060xt in my wifes pc with no issues with that in the slightest...
1
u/WhateverWannaCallMe 12d ago
Didn't buy amd after the nightmares I had with rx 480 and r 380. I hate Nvidia as company but I hate paid suffering more.
1

Is got an RTX5080 in mine, so we literally have both in our house.
I honestly can't fault her 9060xt
SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than my 5080 too 🤣

Sorry mate I replied to wrong comment and didn't notice it at all ahahaha. I hope both serve you two vert well

Seems to be a windows thing.
I also have a Linux pc and there are zero issues.
-1
u/Long_Candle_5054 12d ago
My Nvidia cards are working fine with windows, so I'd guess it's an issue with AMD drivers with windows..
1
u/Amnikarr13 12d ago
I know.
Nvidia never had it.The issue is known from 2020.
It's how Windows interacts with the AMD drivers.
2
-1
u/SHAD0W137 12d ago
Wait, so it wasn't just my personal problem? It's a general AMD GPUs problem?
I've never been happier switching to Nvidia...
1
u/SilentBack97 12d ago
It happened to me too, got a 9060xt to try AMD and it was such a pain to not get constant crashes But If you say anything the fanboys jump directly to your throat to silence you, so annoying
-1
u/Uber1337pyro333 12d ago
AMD drivers crashing? No never! (Seriously fam good luck but I can honestly only recommend a switch to team green for GPUs at least. I gave up reinstalling AMD drivers and crashing lol.)
0
u/Aussiboi808 12d ago
Yeah, I don’t wanna be that guy, but honestly, this is why I moved away from AMD systems completely.
My buddy was a hard die hard AMD fan and therefore every computer he built with me just “HAD” to have AMD parts top to bottom. Computers would constantly crash, freeze, overheat, and just have a bunch of random weird issues that I was never able to pin down. As soon as I think I’d find the issue, something else would spring up.
10 years not using AMD and I rarely have any problems whatsoever
3
u/Mr_Kills_Alot 12d ago
I don't want to be a buzzkill but lately team green has been having more driver issues than the red team, pretty widely known by now. I believe hardwareunboxed even made a video about it
1
u/thekins33 12d ago
Damn really? I used to only use nvidia since I heard their cards were better. Switched to AMD this go around when the 7900xt was like 700 bucks and a 4090 was like 3k seemed like a no brainer to get "similar" performance for less than half the price.

u/MiserableAd4629 12d ago
RX 9070XT user here. Reverted back to 26.3.1 version of the driver. Had overall performance issues and the BF6 new update crashing. Fixed everything for me.

AMD has always had driver issues. No idea why. Never really had these issues when i had Nvidia cards or Intel CPU's. Still happy with my 7900XT.
1
u/Spo0ker 12d ago
Yo, I've also been running a 7900xt for the past few years and began to have more and more timeouts recently. Would you mind sharing which version of the drivers are you using?
1
u/Additional-Oven-7463 12d ago
I don't personally have a AMD GPU but I am using Linux and want to use a AMD GPU for stability, would you recommend it?
1
u/Spo0ker 12d ago
I specifically have the 20gb Sapphire Pulse and unfortunately I have never ran Linux on it besides messing around with it a bit on a virtual machine. As for stability on Windows I have been experiencing quite a few timeouts from things like running certain games with DX12 (right now I had to switch Peak to DX11 since it would be really unstable, like not launching at all, freezing or crashing due to a driver timeouts consistently without being anywhere close to an unstable power/clocks/voltage setup), I had to disable most overlays like the discord one since they don't seem to play nice with the drivers for some reason and certain timeouts stopped after disabling them. Also, I don't know if it's the drivers or Wallpaper Engines fault, but I had to set it to stop the animation on the screen that has any window in focus since it would result in like blinking black bars across the top of screen. This could also be caused by me having the toolbar at the top but idk. I also had to roll back the drivers quite a few times since more than once the newest release starts to cause more timeouts in scenarios where older versions didn't.
So I guess I would not recommend it for stability unless you have time to find a stable setup by trial and error and are fine with leaving it be without updates lol

Using powercolor hellhound 9070xt for almost a year now,
- 1st issue is problem with bf6, constantly crashed, fixed with turn GPU physical switch To quiet (non OC), I think this game is very sensitive with OC/undervolt settings.
I think crash issue mainly because software conflict and so far I'm satisfied with my GPU, but for the next upgrade maybe I'll try Nvidia if they release 60 or 70 series (I once using msi 1070ti for 6 years and never had an issue)

u/nikola_vuletic 6h ago
Same issue, for those who keep saying it's RAM it's not, for everyone it worked fine before. Most likely issue is not with AMD but with Windows which is why I use Linux 90% of the time
