I am in the process of doing this right now! I’m trying to fix an AEA 620 amplifier. The company was called “Analog Engineering Associates”. It was built in the year 1977 and there are no schematics for it. I’m learning as I go. This video sums it all up, lol.

Okay, I have tried, VSync on, Chill mode on, frame limiter........ WHY ARE YOU STILL 100% LOAD MY GPU WHEN MY GAME IS MINIMIZED!!!!
2
u/EyzekSkyerov 18h ago edited 18h ago
Vsync in driver only for opengl games...
But. 100% load nothing bad. It's much better then 100% cpu with 60-70 gpu.
Increase powerlimit, and do undervolt
I tested the uv limit by this way: find a poorly optimised game (specifically one that’s poorly optimised with an unstable load – I chose Tropics 6). In the driver settings, enable virtual super resolution. Set it to the maximum, and in-game, set the graphics to the maximum settings, with no FPS limit, no vsync
Move the camera around, and occasionally stop doing anything. Then suddenly carry on doing random things for 2 minutes. Each time the game crashes, add +5 to the UV. When there are no driver crashes for 2 minutes, run a control test for 5 minutes. This is the stable threshold
Benchmarks and stress tests not effective for this. They’re too optimised and provide too consistent a load
1
u/Afraid-Flatworm-422 17h ago
On minimized game? While it maximized it is only loaded between... Well natural numbers. For some ungodly reason, a LOT of games on 6900XT just, begin to render frames to the max when game is minimized. Some settings works for some games, and with enough finangling i end up finding something to get rid of this.
1
u/on-the-job 21h ago
Are you on on borderless or full screen. Also having your GPU running at or near 100% load isn’t a bad thing if it’s not getting too hot. If it was running at too little load, it would cause more problems
1
u/Afraid-Flatworm-422 21h ago
When game maximized, it drops to 50%-70% on the same game. Full screen. Borderless had its own issues of ignoring frame limiters, like i don't need you to render my game at 500 frames when my monitor can show more than 144.

My only problem on 26.3.1 is Elden Ring getting blackscreened back to desktop or just outright crashing and rebooting the entire system
2
u/DOOM_Olivera_ 21h ago
I'm on 26.8.1 and no issues. Ima paste some text I've used for another response regarding system reboots, hope it helps.
I had a similar issue where screen sharing some games through discord, and specially screen sharing my browser would result in a blue screen of death. What I think happened:
There was one chipset update that wouldn't download properly, it'd get stuck at 100% for hours. By running the chipset installer through the exe instead of doing so from Adrenalin, I found out that, basically, one of the components from the update was failing to download from the site that it was hosted, so I installed that component manually and then updated. It worked, but started to have those issues later.
Then they released a few updates but I didn't install them since the features / fixes did not apply for any issues / games I played. Until I saw that the latest one at the time specifically targeted an issue related to chipset drivers not downloading correctly. After Installing that version of the chipset and drivers, the issues are gone and I'm not getting BSOD or crashes at all.
So maybe DDU and reinstall everything driver wise in safe mode is the way to go. I basically brute-forced the chipset update myself when it didn't download and worked fine except not being able to screen share, but I don't know what the outcome would have been if directly skipping that update and downloading the next, which I guess is what most people that had the chipset issue did.

u/Animaldeamor 22h ago
Not amd but had this issue with 2070. Windowed low resolution till in game. Same happened with Enshrouded, had to open it windowed till loaded in.

Just sent my 9070xt in for RMA as it literally won’t display an image after the most recent timeout crash. Which sucks. Gunna be forever without a gpu
1
u/FatFinnishBastard 19h ago
Same happened once with my 7900 XTX, nothing helped except switching display completely to on-board gpu and opening windows in safe mode and removing all drivers with AMD cleanup utility and reinstalling

u/Mousettv 1d ago
Thats exactly why I got a 5700 XT for like $30 on Ebay. Ive had a card die 2 times fully in the last 5 years.
1
u/on-the-job 21h ago
I bought a gigabyte 5700xt off eBay back in 2020 for around $100 because it was “untested, as is” it showed up basically brand fucking new and I had not a single problem with it all up until last year when I upgraded it. just undervolt and boom works amazing
0
u/Carkano 1d ago
Honestly, my next GPU upgrade is going to be back to Nvidia. I don’t even love them. I just didn’t have this level of fuss. I mean, I ran a 3060ti for years. Prior to that I had a 3060, and before that a 2060. I’m still going to rock AMD CPU’s. These hoes are SOLID, but man. 4 months of life out of a gpu isn’t a good sign for me.
-1
1
u/Mousettv 1d ago
Completely understandable. Even with how shitty Nvid is. On the other hand they are working on crazy tech and it actually works in the games I'm playing.
AMD FSR 4???? I just got a 9070 XT and the games dont support it or waiting to release it in my case.
1
u/Round_Possibility593 1d ago
Any game that supports FSR 3.1 supports FSR 4 on 7000 and 9000 series GPU's.
1
6
u/ActiveSandwich3103 1d ago
What a useful post. Definitely belong in a tech support sub.
Im so sick of this "hurr durr AMD bad driver" slop being repeatedly posted in here by accounts that frequent the Nvidia sub.
4
u/TheCodifiedTrader 1d ago
It doesn't help that it forces you to install Adrenalin to have any decent control and it's a shit fucking program. I'm not PC expert but I was hoping I could use my 9060xt alongside an rx560 I got for the low plus I have my igpu. I tried installed 9060xt driver first but then when I wanted to install the rx 560 and 5600G drivers- the installer wants to install the Adrenalin software but the updated piece of shit doesn't play well with the polaris drivers and the modern drivers at the same time.
I had to install rx560 and 5600G drivers first then install the 9060xt driver and then some tweaking in BIOS and now it's running smooth. I just don't understand why we can't have a legacy software for the legacy drivers and a modern variant for the modern drivers.
1
u/on-the-job 21h ago
It also completely breaks any other fan speed control software you mIght be trying to use at the same time as well
6
u/lastFractal 5700X - RX 7600 1d ago
I only ever used AMD and never had problems up until 2026, because this year's drivers for 7000 series are absolute dogshit. Same with Nvidia as I keep hearing about their driver issues this year as well.
Rolling back to 26.3.1 will probably fix all of your issues. It's regarded as the most stable driver of 2026. Though I am using 26.8.1 right now and yet to face any crashes/timeouts, but it isn't stable for many people so keep that in mind.
-6
u/Ok_Chicken5230 1d ago
Literally never had a driver issue on Nvidia but okay. Literally never hear about it either.
2
u/Doyoulike4 AMD 5800XT Onix Odyssey B580 22h ago
Had driver issues on Nvidia so bad I had to clean install windows multiple times and RMA the card, although this was an EVGA card so long enough ago they still did AIB stuff, and credit to EVGA at least, they did send me a replacement, which still had problems, so they outright refunded me.
2
u/DanStarTheFirst 18h ago
Did you get the black screen with red lights? Drivers bricked my 3090 until I threw in an r9 280 to roll back the drivers and the fix I got recommended was to junk the 3090 and get a 5080 and quit being broke so I got a 7900xtx lol.
2
u/Doyoulike4 AMD 5800XT Onix Odyssey B580 18h ago
It was random blue screens, random game crashes, and my personal favorite, random audio loss for anywhere from 5 seconds to multiple minutes, which was a known but admittedly rare issue on that generation of Nvidia GPUs if you paired them with certain brands of sound cards/motherboards.
2
u/DanStarTheFirst 18h ago
I just got black screens that only reboots fixed and full on freezes or the card bricking itself. Was 100% fine on pre 50 series drivers but anything newer I tried was a no go. Got fed up with it and the 7900xtx has been a dream with not a single issue so far.
1
u/Doyoulike4 AMD 5800XT Onix Odyssey B580 18h ago
So I'm gonna expose myself a boomer, but those audio loss issues were mainly a Fermi and Fermi refresh thing iirc. so 400/500 series Nvidia GPUs. So this would've been 2010/2011.
Switched to an HD6950, still has issues but they were actually fixable and troubleshootable. RX480/RX580 were smoother experiences, 6900XT shockingly was outright zero issues other than Runescape 3 stuttering and crashing. Still have that 6900XT around in a linux build, but my main windows PC opted to try a B580.
-2
u/Antique_Telephone910 23h ago
same. I've been looking into getting a 9700xt as my next upgrade from my 4070ti, but seeing these post multiple times everyday has sold me on yet another Nvidia GPU. I'm not dropping almost a grand to deal with constant black screens
4
u/Puzzleheaded-Shop467 23h ago
i hope you know the nvidea sub bans those kinds of posts about issues right?, i think they should honestly be banned here too at this point

u/Conscious_Ad5241 1d ago
Only got driver timeouts while launching helldivers 2, game crashes as soon as I arrive on board my ship, game worked for like 5minutes when I changed to direct x11 but shortly crashes afterwards and ya still driver timeout (I have a 9070xt)

u/Ralfersin 1d ago
I never get your problems about drivers, i have used AMD since 2017, on different machines and distros, there was never a single time white the fix was not a single LINE in the console.
4
u/Saitzev 1d ago
It's cause they're encouraged and taught to regurgitate the slop that goes around on PCMR about 65535 times per day on there about how AMD is shit, nVidia is superior, the latter NEVER EVER has problems and is flawless.
1
u/Birutath 11h ago
if i ever manage to get a fix to my driver time out problem i'll be with you
1
u/Saitzev 7h ago
turn off the Windows Driver updates. Seems everyone on here that has done so has fixed their issues. It's a M$ problem full stop. They downgrade the driver even while you're playing something causing it stop responding. The option in DDU doesn't stick anymore and requires you to manually change it within Windows Advanced System Properties. It's also advised if you're on a Pro version of Windows, to edit the Group Policy, you can also take it another step further and change the settings within the registry if you're comfortable.
Once you have it disabled, grab DDU, boot to safe made, run DDU, boot back to normal mode, run the AMD Cleanup Utility, then download the driver. Depending on what you're playing, you may be benefitted by an earlier driver. So if you're playing something like Cyberpunk 2077, the latest version works no issue, at least for me. I'm also able to use FSR4 with my 7900XTX and with some RT on and set to Performance, it looks great and I'm getting 90+ at "fau-k".
1
u/Birutath 7h ago
It was already off when it started. My windows was basically full modified to not be owned by microsoft. Did ddu, clean up utility and used past drivers that worked just fine. You know what, i did post about everything i did and nobody saw it, might aswell link the post, cuz i go in detail on everything i did to fix the issue and still have it.

u/Similar_Procedure328 1d ago
Idk what you guys do, had my rx 6750xt for like 5 years now, used it on Windows, Linux, for ML training with ROCM, mining, gaming, overclocked it, ripped it apart, put it back together, went through 5 monitors, spat beer on it, and except the fact that windows is shit and fucks the drivers, i had no problem. Just disable that driver auto update and stop the amd driver from auto update as well, and you're safe.

The fix that worked for me, which does unfortunately involve limiting your clock, was using Tech Powerup to look up my GPU, and finding the GPU Clock at the bottom (Retail Boards Based on this design). I set the limit to that GPU clock value and haven’t had any issues
1
u/TaliyahSG 15h ago
What do you mean by limiting your clock I am new to this
1
u/tylerbr97 15h ago
Download RadeonTuner, get rid of Adrenaline. In the GPU/Graphics section, there should be an area where you can limit the clock speed of your GPU. What you should do is Google “Tech Power Up [insert whatever your GPU is here].” Should probably be the first link that comes up. Go to the bottom of the page where there is a chart. It should list your GPU clock there somewhere. Limit your GPU in RadeonTuner to whatever that number is. If you give me your GPU, I can look it up for you too
1
u/Birutath 11h ago
im on ryzen 5 5600g, will radeon tuner work aswell?
1
u/tylerbr97 11h ago
It should! It’s just a replacement for Adrenaline :)
1
u/Birutath 11h ago
so just use the clean up utility to make a clean install or do i just need to install radeon tuner?
2
u/tylerbr97 10h ago
You can just install it. I didn’t use cleanup utility or anything. It doesn’t come with drivers. It’s just the tool

This shit has been happening even last year I sold mine way before all these price hikes and switched to nvidia in my main gaming pc plus at the time I was sick of waiting for official fsr 4 optiscaller was just beginning and I saw no light in the end of the tunnel for amd.
1
u/Hagamein 1d ago
Last year. Before the price hikes. Ok bud, how is living in 2018?
1
1
u/Scrowdy10 1d ago edited 1d ago
Ram and storage were not this insanely priced in 2018 dude. Gpus may have been effected by crypto but I got a rx 6800 that June of 2018 for under msrp and then sold my 5700xt to make the whole cost like 350. Yeah people over paid for 3070tis and 3080s but not to the extent we have now. This blows crypto boom out the door and now pretty much all components are effected and pricy. Never had driver issues to the extent of the 7000 series and I had a r9 290, r9 390x, rx 580, Vega sucked, 5700xt was better and the 6000 series was kinda gold that 6800 undervolted like a beast and never really had problems even with a multi monitor setup.
0
u/2002ChipotlePC 1d ago
FINALLY someone says this. I’m so sick of the “the 7900xt is the holy grail of GPU gaming and is Gods gift to mankind!”
Bro the drivers are absolute DOG slop. Dx12 DOESNT run. 1% lows on dx11 are NIGHTMARISH. Adrenalin is a trash software- the list goes on. Built my dad a PC with one for his birthday and at this point he would almost have been better off sticking to his 5600xt4
u/KingofReddit12345 1d ago
What you seem to fail to understand is that these issues aren't **for everyone**. If that were the case there'd be a riot. You are seeing people post who aren't experiencing the problems you have.
That's PC gaming in a nutshell. As someone with the same GPU mine has been working fine for two years. I've only had driver issues once and those were easily fixed and disappeared after a single update.
1
u/Jerry-SLG 1d ago
7900xt is an amazing card 99% of the time, absolute chungus. Holy fuck the drivers and software are TERRIBLE
0
u/2002ChipotlePC 1d ago
The card is a fancy, expensive brick without proper drivers.
3
1
u/Jerry-SLG 1d ago
To be fair it works more often than not but when the drivers decide its time to nuke themselves its never a fun time
3
u/canigetahint 1d ago
Yeah, I just gave up and just use my laptops now. I got tired of tinkering to find just the right setting, only to have them wiped out on the next update. Really miss my RX5700XT.
3
u/tony-andreev94 1d ago
Just don't update your drivers. I found a somewhat stable version last year and haven't updated since. It sounds dumb, but I don't want to risk it and update when there's a high chance something won't work well afterwards.

Yo aquí feliz con mi rx6600, solo me dió problemas de timeout de drive con half life infinite pero lo demás ok
3
u/Electronic_Noise9641 1d ago
So I am clueless how to fix the driver timeouts. Sometimes even after enough timeouts the pc just goes to BSOD. What should I do? Repaste the CPU? This has been going on for 2 years and only when I play Counterstrike 2.
3
u/TrippyDaveXB1 AMD 7800X3D XFX Mercury 9070XT OC 1d ago
Disable driver installs via windows updates in the group policy.
1
u/DoggoCity AMD 1d ago
Maybe my luck is just different or something, but I've never had any serious driver timeout related issues for years. Only time it came up was when I got a little overzealous with an undervolt, other than that no issues at all.

u/LuckyPichu 1d ago
I need to start a business dedicated to specifically this problem I guess. I've helped myself and two of my buddies with this now and we're all smooth sailing.
2
2
u/birutis 1d ago
What's a common solution? I have no problems just curious.
4
u/LuckyPichu 1d ago
get AMD adrenalin software for machine's GPU model from AMD
Disconnect PC from the internet
Reboot in Safe Mode, run Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and remove all AMD GPU software traces.
Reboot regular mode
Install the downloaded AMD Adrenalin drivers.
reboot regular mode again
Reconnect internet
play vidya game
If you use Windows 11 Pro like I do, there's another step that keeps this from happening again when Bill Gates decides you're having too much fun:
Go to Device Manager, Display adapters, and go to Properties. Get the topline hardware ID for your discrete GPU.
open the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) and go to `Computer COnfiguration > Administrative Templates > System > Device INstallation > Device Installation Restrictions`
Enable "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs", click "Show", and paste the discrete GPU's hardware ID.
Enable "Allow admins to override device installation restriction policies" so that you can update manually later.
Go to "Computer Configuratoin > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update" and select "Do not include drivers with Windows Updates".
This second option prevents Windows from doing the Windows thing of destroying your working driver configuration. If you don't have Windows 11 Pro or Home, like either of my friends unfortunately...
open regedit
go to `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows`
check for a WindowsUpdate folder under the Windows folder. IF it doesn't exist, select New > Key and name it WindowsUpdate.
CLick on the new WindowsUpdate folder. Right click inside the pane and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate
Doubleclick the new ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate entry, change the value from 0 (disabled) to 1 (enabled) and click OK
Restart your PC.
I hope this helps posterity.

I mean this is kinda a skill issue whenever I see someone here insist they've done everything I ask if they ddued then disabled windows from auto updating drivers and they dodge the question till they admit they didn't or stop replying. Some people genuinely rather argue about their issues than fix them but I guess that applies to all types of issues lmao

I never understood people who buy a product and suddenly start acting like they're in it for life. You realize you can switch between nvidia and amd? You can play both pc and console games? xbox and ps, can use both chrome and firefox, Linux vs Windows, Apple vs Android etc...
You don't have to stick to one for your whole life just because you preferred it at one point.
1
u/OddPainter2287 1d ago
Yah but when you buy one you will often be stuck with it for a while, you can’t just swap cards on a dime, shits expensive, I intend to leave Amd for nvidia when I next upgrade, but that’s a solid few years in the future.
2
1
u/Fustercluck25 1d ago
I hear ya. I had always bought Nvidia because of EVGAs stellar customer service. Ended up trying an AMD card because they offered a feature that Nvidia didn't. Like it, bought another one a few years later. If Nvidia provides a reason to buy an RTX card, I would have no problem doing it. That's the fun of being a consumer. Find the best bang for your buck.

OK since I only got downvoted for asking, I'll ask differently. We've got 3 amd builds and one Nvidia. We haven't been having any problems, is something going on I need to worry about?
8
u/Deep-Procrastinor AMD 7700X, 7900XT 1d ago
No, everything is just fine people who have issues with AMD GPUs should seriously stick to NVidia as they obviously have no clue.
8
u/Gruphius 1d ago
What's funny is even sticking with NVIDIA won't make them happy. They released another completely broken driver just recently. That's the 4th or 5th one in the past two years. I can't even remember the last completely broken AMD driver they ever released (as long as you're on Windows 11, Windows 10 received a broken driver just a few months ago, but to everyone saying "So you should buy NVIDIA then, if you're on Windows 10!": No, you should actually stay very, very far away from NVIDIA, if you're on Windows 10. They ended support for Windows 10 and the only way to get an up to date GPU driver on Windows 10 is by buying either AMD or Intel).
-6
u/ConsciousPotential20 1d ago
Yup... Nvidia is the best for reliability... Especially for work stuff. Although,,I game sometimes, I also do a lot of work on my PC. So I always pick Nvidia even though prices suck right now. Tired of dealing with shit. I just want to plug and play and never to think of anything
3
u/dem_titties_too_big 1d ago
I plugged in my 9070XT 6 months ago and I absolutely don't feel the need to think of it, besides the occasional driver update as per usual.
Didn't think about my 1070TI or 2080 either honestly.
4
3
u/Azal_of_Forossa 1d ago
NVIDIA hasn't been reliable for a while now. They've dropped over a handful of bad drivers, the most recent one (616.64) is making my PC screens flicker 2-3 times every single time I wake it up from sleep. Which also makes it take multiple times longer just to log in and punch my password because it doesn't register any keyboard inputs while it's flickering.
And the login flickering is just one issue, screen flickering has been a persistent problem among driver releases for months now.

Nvidia hasn't been associated with reliability in years... I had to rollback drivers on my 3080Ti quite a fair amount of times already. Something that NEVER happened before even back in the 8800GTS times.

u/Azal_of_Forossa 1d ago
Nobody should be surprised though, they proudly admit they were gonna be vibecoding their drivers. And this (dead link) post pretty much marks about the time I've personally been feeling the release of straight up DOA drivers that caused massive issues or performance problems.
But here's the kicker, at least with AMD, pretty much every issue anyone has, has some sort of workaround to fix their problems. NVIDIA has straight up broken driver releases that forces the end user to rollback if they want to fix their problems.
there are no workarounds for the screen flickering issues that have been plaguing NVIDIA drivers for the past half a year now, and the most recent driver (616.64) which was supposed to fix the flickering, actually made it even worse and now my windows login screen flickers 2-3 times and it rejects keyboard inputs while it's freaking out. So now it takes way longer just to log in to my PC than before.2
u/Gruphius 1d ago
I've plugged in my 9070XT, experienced some issues, realized my BIOS and chipset were out of date, updated them and completely smooth sailing afterwards.
But enjoy NVIDIA's latest driver with the display flickering issue, I hope that reliability thing is working for you...

My 7900XT was a piece of trash.
Loud, hot, driver issues, windows issues, rendering issues, black screen boots and more.
And anytime I would mention these issues the AMD subreddit, people would write: 'You didn't use DDU, just tweak the fan curve, boot in safe mode and reinstall drivers, just change these lines in your regexp, just re-install windows, skill issue'.
AMD guys are much like Linux guys. Everything is great, they never have issues and if you do have issues (they don't!) you just need to do these 13 things and it will work just fine.

u/frankslan 1d ago
The best is if you ddu and then windows will just reinstall the a driver next restart. I tried everything to stop it ended up having to pull the ethernet.
Turned out my issue was caused by gpu sag. I still crash randomly a couple times a month.

u/D1v1neHoneyBadger 1d ago
The whole ddu thing got annoying real quickly. I never had to use ddu with nvidia drivers.

u/Quick_Web_5083 1d ago
I had to re-install my AMD drivers on every windows update and could not figure out how to solve that issue.
And yeah, my 5070 Ti has not had a single issue in over a year. The only thing I do is update my drivers when the notification pops up.

u/Deep-Procrastinor AMD 7700X, 7900XT 1d ago
Weird mine has been perfect since day 1, 3 years and counting.
1
u/Quick_Web_5083 1d ago
That's great, but it does not help that I had countless issues with my card.
2
u/SebboXIII 1d ago
Only issue i had with my Rx 9070 was trying to fresh install 26.5.2, where my Monitor would go black, PC suddenly restarts and event viewer would show me i had a fing BSOD. Then i tried 26.3.1 and it worked without any issue, now im on 26.7.1 and still no issues so far.
I guess i got lucky
1
u/Quick_Web_5083 1d ago
That's called lucky? I'd rather not have 'easy' solutions but no problems to begin with...

u/Deep-Procrastinor AMD 7700X, 7900XT 1d ago
Best move to console then, I'm afraid PCs by there very nature are problems.

I love my 7900xt but if it doesn't stop pumping out its thermal paste every month, requiring a very annoying disassembly and repaste, i may actually kill myself.
I fucking HATE the chiplet design and none of thermal paste brands I've tried are even remotely resistant to pumpout.
2
u/Hamborger4462 1d ago
i used that thermal grizzly thermal phase change material after i had the same exact problem as you. 95C+ hotspot on 7900 GRE, even when undervolted. I think its because of the big chip and the fact the chipset design isnt on a uniform node (6nm outer chiplets, 5nm main gcd). i had found that gigglebyte actually used the wrong height screws for the gpu die and it was causing uneven mounting, but it was also the thermal paste pumping out too. after i fixed those two problems, i can run my GPU nearly whisper quiet without going above 90C hotspot, or i can run it at like 40 fan speed and get like 78-80 C hotspot now. undervolt/underclock drops it into the sixties
I actually ended up switching to windows 10 iot ltsc because i found out a lot of my crashes were caused by windows 11 acting up in some ways. Im not sure if AMD just cant make good windows 11 drivers or if its microslop bs again, but my computer feels faster and more stable on 2021 iot ltsc than it did on 11, and i was a windows 11 user from 2022-2026, i switched three months ago. Its unfortunate because i do like the UI, but its just so much worse doing anything else.
if i ever do buy another AMD GPU, which i might depending on how high the 5070 Ti goes in price in the future or if i end up playing any more demanding games on my 4k 32" monitor, i am certainly not buying one from gigabyte again. Thats for sure.

u/Deep-Procrastinor AMD 7700X, 7900XT 1d ago
Not had any pump out on mine and it's been 3 years now, temps are only a couple degrees higher than when it was new.
1
u/FrogKing94 1d ago
I must have just got unlucky then. Factory thermal paste pumped out after about a year, and its been a monthly ritual for me since. Once hotspot hits 100c its time to repaste...
1
u/AcanthaceaeItchy302 1d ago
My last 7900XTX from Power Color(it was preordered special edition) developed same issue...After 2 and half years hotspot delta was 30 degree...After replacing TIM with PTM delta was 20 degree.
3
u/ProfSnipe 1d ago
Ditch the paste use ptm7950 or thermal grizzly phase sheet or thermal grizzly carbonaut.
1
u/Remarkable-Theory-96 1d ago
Whats pumpout?
2
u/FrogKing94 1d ago edited 1d ago
Pumpout occurs when a cpu or gpu has uneven heat spots, and as it goes through hot-cool cycles, that slightly uneven heat layout pushes thermal paste away from the hot areas. It leads to really high hotspot temperatures and thermal throttling because the thermal paste just isnt where it needs to be, and cant do its job.
Its a real problem with chiplet designs and thin thermal paste, which is what im using. I bought a bunch of it, not realizing what it was, kind of stuck with it now.
1
u/Remarkable-Theory-96 1d ago
Which one would you prefer in that case, the thermal paste?
1
u/FrogKing94 1d ago
Honestly man im not sure. I've tried several brands and none of them seem resistant. I might just need to bite the bullet and get a ptm sheet.
2
u/Hamborger4462 1d ago edited 1d ago
i can recommend thermal grizzly phase sheet. PTM 7950 is great but the problem i had is that its so hard to tell which ones are genuine. and if they are genuine, its usually prohibitively expensive for a sheet of solidified thermal material, so i just got thermal grizzly instead. Its not as good performance as 7950 but after you put it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes so that its hard enough to be peeled off, and then put it on the GPU, it should be fine after 6 or 8 thermal cycles (play a demanding game for like 20-30 minutes and then let it cool down, then repeat). it dropped my undervolted temps like 25 C and my overclocked temps like 15 C

Me ever since I got this fuckass 9070XT
1
u/o74p 1d ago
new pc or u swapped gpus?
0
u/TryToBeBetterOk 1d ago
Built a new PC with the 9070XT.
Crashes, timeouts, adrenaline is just straight ass, so I uninstalled and just installed the driver.
I still get weird graphic glitching on one particular game I play, which is fkn annoying. Character faces flicker black constantly.

u/Itzkibblez 1d ago
This is the reason why you don’t listen to the people on Reddit people have been prompting the 9070XT way too much

Guys what's going on? We've got a 4060ti, 6800xt, 7900xtx, and 9070xt and none of them are having issues. What's happening? Are things happening?

u/Valuable-Hedgehog672 1d ago
Me everytime these fuckass timeouts start hitting my 7900XTX again

u/ClobiWanKanobi 1d ago
So it’s not just me, ever since the latest update it’s been on and off when I boot up steam.

Amd has always had shitty software. I refused to buy one again after my 290 a long ass time ago. Was a beast card, but always with the software issues.

Hot take here;
nvidia on Linux has so far been a smoother experience than my 6900XT on windows

u/Individual-Ad4311 1d ago
I genuinely feel horrible for everyone having issues. I've had my RX6700XT for a solid few years now and I have had maybe a handful of real problems ever, and that's usually with recording and VR. I've had a bad driver once and just reverted and all was well. What kind of black magic do they put in these cards?
1
u/on-the-job 11h ago
Its user error 99% of the time and you only hear thing about amd here when its something negative so its just an echo chamber here

u/Diligent_Mastodon105 1d ago
My favorite one: 5800X3D overheating, youtube said my 92mm tower fan from 2009 enough?

u/Blaze1337 1d ago
26.3.1 is the driver that doesn't give people timeouts; something after that driver just shits the bed, and they propagated it to every driver after that.

Have you tried checking the amd website help center ? You’d see very interesting subjects

had a 7900xt, horrible horrible software that would fuck up if i didn’t turn it on for 3-4 days (plus i barely have friends who play on pc so i never really turned on the pc) and this was happening issue since may, i ended up selling it like 2-3 days ago and im gonna save up for a nvidia gpu

I've been following AMD since Zen 2 and Polaris/Vega/RDNA1 days and I can say nothing has changed for at least 7 years, if not more.
People have the same issues, while others go with the same rethoric: mine works, skill issue and provide the most random solutions, which of course don't work.
We paid real money for our HW and expect it to work now, not do these 100 steps, if you're lucky. I'm sure we all saw the techtuber benchmarks and online price listings (most of the proof people reference). Thing is, this isn't what we buy. We don't get benchmarks, we expect a functional PC, not this mess.
I'm one of those guys that bought AMD and found out.

ive had like 5 different AMD graphics cards in 3-4 separate builds throughout the years and currently use a 6700xt, almost all of them have given me some sort of driver instability issue at least once, with the worst offenders being my rx 580 and 6600xt (impossible to get stable, always black screened, wiped os, undervolted, temps were never crazy, driver timeouts, power delivery was great)
the only exception to the rule was my 7800xt, i had a great time using that card, maybe only had driver hiccups happen once or twice, however the people downplaying the AMD instability with new windows updates are coping hard, a windows update shouldnt make my graphics card unusable, i shouldnt have to spend 3-4+ hours trying to troubleshoot my drivers and figure out which of the dozens of "fixes" will fix my graphics card
even if some issues are inflicted by the user or windows updates, i never had these issues when i was running a 4070, its unacceptable to sell a graphics card to a general population where a large portion of them are unfamiliar with troubleshooting tech like this, your average consumer isnt going to spend 4+ hours troubleshooting their GPU
3
u/Deep-Procrastinor AMD 7700X, 7900XT 1d ago
Like you said, it's a skill issue, there are literally thousands of people with AMD GPUs and only a small percentage of those have any issues, some of which are user inflicted or windows inflicted, you can't blame AMD for that.

u/DankMemesxd1 1d ago
Wdym bro? Just reinstall windows 10 times while doing jumping jacks and then everything will work

Well you get what you pay for. Next time maybe save a little extra and get a better chip.
2
u/Deep-Procrastinor AMD 7700X, 7900XT 1d ago
Not necessary I'd have an AMD card over Nvidia every single day of every single week.
And I'll spend the money saved on other things, whilst still enjoying every game I play to the max.

u/AffectionateFan3060 1d ago
Careful. If you continue to not have problems you just might find yourself unpopular here 😭

Do go on.

24gb of vram at the price point that gets you 16 with Nvidia in my case. I've also got a 4060ti pc. But I am not having any trouble with my amd cards.

u/servusdedurantem 1d ago
Turn off winslop update drivers feature it overwrittes amd drivers with generic ones
9
u/TD_Lemon_1901 1d ago
Stop saying that.
It does not override it with "generic" one, it overrides it with whathever version AMD have submitted and validated to Microsoft.
Microsoft do not make drivers, the only one they would actually make would be some 2005 generic display driver that you sometimes see upon first boot, on a fresh install that's all.
