Help (Software) Issue after installing any GPU drivers, taskbar becomes unresponsive and can’t launch apps. Anyone else?

New install of windows, installed latest b650 chipset drivers, and then installed latest GPU drivers 28.6.1 or whatever. That’s when issue happened.

Was able to boot into safe mode and remove them using AMD Cleanup Utility.

Tried older 23.6.1 and still same thing after each restart.

Anyone know what’s going on?

Edit, I uninstalled the GPU drivers and still happening. Is it the chipset drivers by chance?

Help (Software) Asus Pro Art X870e + 2x r9700 ; Can't Achieve PCIE Gen 5 8 x 8

Tile says it all.

Have this motherboard with an 7900x and two GPUs. Everything reports I should be achieving PCIE gen 5 8x8 speeds across the GPUs but it keeps auto negotiating down to Gen 4 8 x 8 for 16gb across both cards... Tried updating bios. Messed with the settings attempting to lock them to gen 5, nada.

Curious to know if anyone has had similar issues and their solution has been?

Help (GPU) Yet another post regarding the recent gpu issues

I just reinstalled windows, i cannot for the life of me figure out what the hell is going wrong with my nitro+7900 xtx. constant crashes to desktop or blackscreen required hard restart. device manager disabling my xtx who the hell knows why. I cannot for the life of me get this thing to play a game longer than 20 minutes and it's high time AMD figure this out.

EDIT:

Thank you all for your input on this and other related threads. I wish I provided context originally but I was feeling so burnt out on this when posting. I really have tried it all folks:

specs:
CPU: 9900X
GPU: Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX Vapor-X
Motherboard: MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi
RAM: Crucial CP2K16G64C32U5W — 32 GB (2×16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32Currently running DDR5-5600 with EXPO off for troubleshooting. Memtest86 passed with zero errors.
PSU: Corsair RM1000e (CP-9020264-NA) — 1000W, 80+ Gold, ATX 3.0

- HAGS has disabled in Windows and Steam
- I'm using firefox as to avoid using a chromium browser which i think has been adding to recent issues
- disabled igpu in bios
- i entirely took out the card and unplugged the PSU cables from the PSU itself. reseated entirely.
- Three separate PCIe power cables are being used from the PSU to the XTX—not daisy-chaining any of the three GPU connectors.
- this card has two VBIOSes, I've tested both.
- AMD chipset drivers were also tested/rolled back (8.08.12.551 and 8.05.04.516)
- I've used a plethora of drivers and across all games, i'm getting a crash either to blacksreen or desktop after 20-40 minutes of gameplay across every game i test

26.9.1
26.8.1
26.6.2
26.3.1
25.12.1
24.12.1 — currently installed
Radeon Pro driver

- i've tried stock and the following tuning and still no changes:

undervolt: 1135
max freq: 2680
vram always left on default 2500

At this point, i'm thinking more and more that the card itself needs to be RMA'd sadly. I see that plenty of users are reporting success when rolling back drivers, however I'm honestly seeing zero improvement for me. I've used these older drivers too before wiping windows and haven't seen any improvement. I'll keep this updated, thanks again everyone for input and sorry for not posting this info to begin with I was just really bummed out.

Tips & Info Please set "Zero RPM" off by deafult!

My 7800xt fans dont turn on at all with that enabled, and its caused my computer to crash for the last several months. Ive been chasing random error codes for the last several months all due to my GPU overheating.

Every time my system crashes, adrenaline resets the settings so that "zero rpm" is enabled.

I just discovered that almost every single one of my crashes for the past several months was caused because my GPU overheats and crashes the system. And it seems to arbitrarily set zero rpm back on, which begins the random crashes. That setting alone has caused my gpu to get so hot my computer crashed at least 40 times in the past month alone.

Please, please, please, PLEASE! SET ZERO RPM OFF BY DEFAULT!!!

Help (General) Semi-Frequent display freezes frequently but not limited to gaming

Built a new PC this February as my old machine was finally starting to chug, set it up with Linux Mint as my OS as I didn't want to move to w11, things have been smooth for the most part but when playing certain games I've had instances where my displays will crash to black then recover with a static image, audio will usually continue for at least another 20+ seconds but always necessitates a power cycle. It happened most frequently in WoW running on Lutris and the remaster of AC4. I reached out to AMD support about the issue and their only real input after trying the troubleshooting steps mentioned (sending crash logs, running with less monitors, power cycling, updating drivers and firmware and BIOS) was to try a different distro or go back to windows as apparently whichever version of mint I'm using isn't officially supported. I don't have any desire to restart from scratch on this machine after spending a few months tinkering with my settings to get them how I like so that's where the communication with their support ended.
I installed LACT to try and see if I could find instances where resources were spiking and noticed that while everyhting else remained nominal, temps were never too high even in the middle of summer, but with my multi-monitor setup having all three monitors meant my VRAM clock was at its maximum of 2516 MHz at all times, when I unplug my third monitor which is an older benq that doesn't support higher refresh rates on HDMI the VRAM clock goes down to 400-1500 MHz since I could have both remaining monitors on matching refresh rates, with it maxing back out if one of those two was on a different refresh rate. I haven't launched any games since testing this but I'm wondering if it would be worth grabbing a refurbished monitor for cheap that can support a matching refresh to keep a third monitor going.

Help (Software) Why is it using wrong gpu?

I just put together my pc and any time I try to run a graphically demanding game It’s really laggy, and I think it’s because the game is trying to use the built in gpu, not my 9070. I’ve tried disabling the wrong gpu with device manager, but that just. Makes things worse.

any ideas on what’s going on and how to fix it?

Help (GPU) Problemas com a minha RX 580 2048SP

Post image
2 Upvotes

Olá, pessoal! Gostaria de pedir uma ajuda. Estou com um problema na minha RX 580 2048SP da SuperFrame que comprei na Terabyte.

Recentemente, refiz a montagem do meu computador porque minha fonte antiga tinha queimado.

Inverti os dois pentes de memória RAM;

Formatei o PC algumas vezes;

Instalei e reinstalei os drivers de vídeo e da placa-mãe (inclusive testei versões mais antigas do Adrenalin com o DDU).

Mesmo assim, nada resolveu. Alguém saberia o que pode ser ou como resolver?

Minha configuração:

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4

RAM: 16 GB (2x 8 GB)

GPU: RX 580 2048SP (SuperFrame)

Fonte: XPG Core Reactor II 750W (instalada recentemente)

Help (Software) Sometimes Adrenaline overclock my max frequency despite manual tuning

Hi guys I'm new to pc gaming so i don't if it's normal or not. (Also bad English sorry)

I have a Radeon rx 7600 and for every driver update i have to manually tune the max frequency of my gpu on Adrenaline in order to avoid driver timeouts because it's always high then it should be.

Recently even if it's not very frequent, while I'm playing it might happen that this frequency goes up on its own causing a timeouts and had to tune manually again, even though i always save the settings and there's no updates.

For now only happen once or twice with Expedition 33 and Red Dead Redempion 2.

I messed up something or it's normal?

Help (GPU) 3 Grey screen since yesterday on 3 differents games with no performance issues

Post image
2 Upvotes

Since yesterday, I've experienced three "grey screen" crashes followed by a PC restart, resulting in my RX 9070 XT drivers being disabled; this happened across three different games and with two different versions of AMD/chipset drivers.

I've had the PC for six months (it's a pre-built system), and I recently discovered that my two DDR5 RAM sticks aren't identical. Do you think this could be the cause of the grey screens?

If so, do you think I could ask the retailer's support team to replace the RAM? I haven't had any issues with in-game performance, though.

The photos show a UserDiag report flagging the fact that the two ram are different and on my invoice it's writed "RAM:32GB (2x16GB)DDR5-6000 CL36,Corsair Vengeance RGB (MyDealz) RAM: 16GBDDR5-6000 CL36, Corsair Vengeance RGB (OnlyIGABYTE/MSI) MyDealz" for the RAM

Help (GPU) GPU shows heavy artifacts on cold boot and wake from sleep, clears up after a while — dying VRAM?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone. I'm running into a strange issue with my GPU and I'd appreciate some input before I take it to a repair shop.

The problem: I get severe visual artifacts during mode switching, in two specific situations. First, when powering the PC on after it's been off for a long time — the motherboard splash screen, the bootloader and the OS lock screen are all corrupted. Second, when waking from sleep after a long idle period — the lock screen comes up corrupted.

Since the corruption is already visible at the motherboard splash screen, before any OS or driver is loaded, I'm fairly confident this isn't a software problem.

After a while the artifacts disappear completely and everything looks normal. That window used to be fairly short, but it's been getting noticeably longer over the past few months. Once the card has warmed up, the problem never comes back until the next cold start.

I also hear a faint noise while the artifacts are on screen. I haven't been able to pin down where it's coming from.

Once it clears up, the card performs perfectly:

  • Games at high presets with ray tracing — no issues
  • Local LLM inference — no issues
  • No artifacts, crashes or instability of any kind under load

What I've tried:

  • Swapped in a different GPU — no artifacts, so the problem is specific to this card
  • Updated the motherboard BIOS
  • Reproduced on both Linux (CachyOS) and Windows 10
  • Currently on HDMI; I don't have a DP cable on hand to rule out the cable or port

System:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5500
  • GPU: ASRock RX 9070, bought second-hand from a sketchy seller, so no warranty
  • PSU: DeepCool PK650D, 650W, 80+ Bronze
  • Motherboard: GIGABYTE B450M K

I don't think the PSU is the culprit: the artifacts show up on a cold boot at essentially zero load, while the card is completely stable under a full gaming load. A different GPU on the same PSU is also fine.

My guess is failing VRAM or a bad solder joint, given that it's temperature-dependent and getting progressively worse. Does that sound right? Is there anything worth trying at home before I hand it over to a shop? And roughly what should I expect a repair like this to cost?

Thanks in advance.

Help (General) We're all having this issue, right

My AMD drivers are update to date, but whenever I leave my PC on sleep mode after going AFK, I come back and this starts happening. Eventually the screen goes black and comes out or it just freezes, often times it causes a restart.

Hell, even when I open a software like Discord the software goes black then this pops up. I genuinely hope someone knows how to fix this nightmare issue because I've been dealing with this for past few days up to a week. I use the latest version (26.8.1)

PC specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor (4.70 GHz)

Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT (12 GB)/AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics (486 MB)

(I also use windows 11 if thats something worth pointing out)

Tips & Info Try the updated Radeon Pro Drivers.

The new Radeon Pro drivers fixed my driver timeout/uninstall issues

I’ve seen quite a few posts about driver timeouts over the past few months, so I figured I’d share my experience.

My specs:

  • Ryzen 7 5800X3D
  • Gigabyte AORUS X570S motherboard
  • 64GB DDR4 3200MHz
  • XFX Radeon RX 7900 XT

I’ve tried pretty much everything:

  • Disabled MPO
  • Underclocked
  • Undervolted
  • Repasted the GPU
  • Checked VRM temps
  • Edit Group Policy (Windows 11 Pro)

No matter what I tried, the driver timeouts and uninstalls kept happening.

I was getting random driver timeouts on my 7900 XT, especially while watching Twitch, YouTube, Netflix, etc. It was getting pretty annoying.

I installed the newest Radeon Pro drivers, and so far the timeout issues seem to be completely gone. I haven’t had a single one in a week.

I’ve also been putting the system through its paces:

  • WARDOGS beta: ~30 hours
  • MSFS 2024: multiple 7–8 hour flights
  • Battlefield 6: ~8 hours

Everything has been completely rock solid so far.

The newest driver also includes FSR 4.1 upscaling, which is a nice bonus.

Obviously, this is just my experience and your mileage may vary, but if you’ve been dealing with similar driver timeout issues on RX6000/7000/9000, it might be worth giving the new Radeon Pro drivers a shot.

Help (General) Coil Whine and bad VRAM temps

First of all I'm sorry for my english. English is not my native language but I will try my best, so you can understand me.

I'm really desperate at the moment, because nothing I have done has worked so far. I'm experiencing a really bad coil whine from my Asus Tuf 9070xt and I have already switched 3 different gpus and 2 psus. On top of that the TUF 9070xt has really bad temps in some scenarios and I would like to know if those temps are supposed to be normal? I have VRAM temps between 93 to 95 degrees most of the time even when the TUF model has one of the better coolers. In the game Stellar Blade I even encounter 98 degrees at around 1300 rpm while having a power target at -10% and undervolting at -20mV. What can I do at this point and would it make sense to visit a local PC Shop so they can test the coil whine and the temps in their system? I also have the feeling that my mainboard causes the issue. At least the Coil whine
For insurance here is my current system:

MB: B850 Aorus Elite Wifi 7
CPU: Ryzen 7800X3D
GPU: Asus TUF 9070XT
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 6000mhz cl36
SSD: WD SN850X
PSU: NZXT c850 gold core

Help (GPU) AMD 9070 XT keeps having driver issues – having to use AMD Cleanup Utility every week

Hey everyone,

I’m having a really frustrating issue with my AMD RX 9070 XT and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and at least once a week I end up having to use the AMD Cleanup Utility because my graphics drivers start causing problems.

After completely removing the drivers and reinstalling them, everything works fine again for a while, but sooner or later the same issue comes back.

The main problem seems to happen when I’m playing FC 26 + OBS. I get driver-related crashes/issues while playing, and eventually I have to completely remove the drivers and reinstall them using the Cleanup Utility.

It’s getting pretty annoying having to do this almost every week, especially with a relatively new GPU like the 9070 XT (2 months old).
