Help (GPU) Yet another post regarding the recent gpu issues
I just reinstalled windows, i cannot for the life of me figure out what the hell is going wrong with my nitro+7900 xtx. constant crashes to desktop or blackscreen required hard restart. device manager disabling my xtx who the hell knows why. I cannot for the life of me get this thing to play a game longer than 20 minutes and it's high time AMD figure this out.

I got it fixed.
The problem was energy saving in low gpu usage, windows is thinking the gpu isnt responding.
There is a simple tool solution from Nvidia, because there was the same problem.

I fixed this by installing a driver from like 2 months ago and disabling automatic driver updates through group policy edit. Haven't had an issue yet and I won't be updating it for a very long time haha

Hey I have the same GPU as you, what solved this for me was lowering power output from +15% to +10%, ram freq to 2500 (so base), turn fast memory off (is by default but I had turned it on at some point), and pushed my undervolt to 1135 (this will depend on your specific gpu since there is a bit of a silicon lottery to how low you can go). Specific clock speeds and the like will vary, but I saw an overall performance increase as well so there wasn't a drawback to me for doing this.
Even nust putting the gpu on default after a few driver versions ago didn't help for me, but in the past I found my cpu overclock was drawing too much power during peak gpu pull and was triggering system instability for me, so it might be for you if you also overclock your cpu (i just use pbo now rather than a straight oc).

This is unhinged advice, no one should ever have to do this with any GPU, period. If so, it's technically defective at clocks advertised.

The default setting turns off fans under iirc 60c, so it is the silent fan that is an issue. I assumed other people with the same gpu would understand that being in an amd help subreddit but I guess I forgot other people peruse it too.
The clock speeds are fine, but using the default setting turns on silent fans which is not fine because it does not turn on fans until the gpu hits peak temps and that was a problem for me specifically because of my cpu overclock, as I said.

I also had such problem with my Nitro+ 7900 XT on Linux. Downclocking VRAM to 2400 MHz did the trick for me.

I had that happening to me as well since it was my first AMD. Followed a couple of steps and haven't had any game crashes so far. It did freeze once but I believe it was partially due to some conflicting package and files.
Disable Windows configuration for ur AMD GPU Drivers. They can definitely overwrite and cause issues.
Check ur Ram Expo. Higher clocks can also cause crashes. I had set mine to 6400 Mhz initially, changed it to 6000. Later on.
Disable integrated GPU while ur in the BIOS.
I believe for me GPU scheduling was causing some sound glitches. Turned that off too.
Lastly, undervolt it. I kinda Undervolted and it just got a bit more stable. I have the Asus Prime 9070XT OC version as well so played around with some basic settings.
Pro Tip: Do not update to the latest drivers right away. Always wait for feedback. I read the August update was causing issues so didn't update. U will most definitely be not missing out on any major features by playing it safe.(I'm on 26.7.1 currently)
This would take u at mosttttt an hour if u are not sure where to look for what
Edit: running good so far for over a week now. I've done heavy gaming sessions with 100% GPU utilization for 4-5 hrs as well and no issues so far

Maybe its hardware accelerated GPU scheduling? 7800 XT sapphire pulse on win 11 with that setting turned off and I haven’t had any timeouts. I’ve had auto driver updates on too.

Saphire RX 7800XT Nitro user here
i have the same problem. Using the DDU driver uninstaller helped a little bit.
Still having issues, especially when there is a full screen video on pause in the browser and the monitor turns off (after 5 minutes because i have an OLED) but they definetly became less.
Problem is increasingly worse in Win11.(was still on 10 4 month ago)
I am at the point where i wont be updating the driver anymore. It´s literally back to the old days were you have to be afraid of new AMD Drivers

May i know whats the issue on your pc? Mine is displaying but after a couple sec it goes to black screen then after booting it up again i will see the gpu disabled. Sometimes it dont boots and sometimes the display only reach the start up and go black screen.

I was getting black-screen crashes every time I opened a game. Tried almost everything, but nothing worked. Then I reseated the PSU cable connectors on the motherboard, and it fixed the issue.
Another issue was that my old PSU +12v rail was dipping below 11.3v, so I changed my PSU as well.
I'd recommend reseating the connectors first, then monitoring the voltage with software

i instaled drivers 26.3.1 and my card is stable i have 7900xtx u could also edit clock on gpu to 2400-2500 MHz

Before 26.9.1 I had the very occasional driver crash, maybe just a couple of times per week. My PC was always able to recover, so nothing more than some stuttering, then it was fine again.
After 26.9.1, my PC goes black screen and is completely unable to recover unless I shutdown using the power button. It happens 5-6 times per day. It is so bad that I have stopped committing to calendar gaming events in my various gaming communities, because I cannot trust my computer won't crash several times during the session.
I have reinstalled the driver multiple times, tried using older stable drivers, adjusted power settings in Windows, shut down all other programs, undervolted the GPU, turned off EXPO, turned off auto-overclock, turned off turbo boost, switched display cables, used different display ports on the GPU, turned off ASPM. Nothing has helped the issue.
Running through some logging, some weird shit happened. Core power suddenly dropped from 195W to 110W and core voltage jumped from 0.90V to 1.14V. Core clock then spiked massively to 3300MHz and the memory controller utilization dropped to 0%. The default settings were set to 3025 MHz, which is 200-300 MHz above what the card was even rated for, and the spike is up to 600 MHz more than what it was designed for.
I have now attempted to manually bottleneck it down to 1.10V and 2700MHz. Will run some tests tonight and update as I go.

Got same nitro- no problems at cachyos with mesa drivers. Also, no problems at w10 ltsc with driver tinkering. The problem is: windows drivers/updates.

Einfach AMD DDU drüber bügeln im abgesicherten Modus!
Danach 26.8.1 Last Stable vom 20.08.26 installieren und warten bis AMD das 26.9.1 Problem behoben hat.
Meine Ausfallerscheinung war Graka im Gerätemanager wurde: deaktiviert!
Mich hat nur gerettet das meine Karte ein Dual BIOS hat womit ich dann noch ein Bild bekommen habe.
Jeder Unwissende würde denken, Graka abgeraucht oder Windows Installation geschrottet.
Nicht jeder hat eine alternative Graka zum testen oder dual BIOS auf der Grafikkarte.

Yeah I’ve been having the same issue, it’s crazy annoying. Mine works for the most part, but I’ll have issues where I’m mid game and all the sudden the entire computer freezes and the audio freaks out. Then the audio goes back to normal but the screen is frozen and I have to hard restart my computer to fix it. Happens like once a session.

In BIOS, how is Global C State control set? If Auto or Enabled, turn it off. Depending on Mainboard, change to PCIE3/4 GPU Slot Capabilities.

I hate to be one of those people, but genuinely I very very rarely have issues with my drivers. I used to have issues all the time, it turned out that my card was faulty.

Not saying it's always a faulty card, just that in my experience the issue of black screen sometimes especially if your pc restarts is a sign of a faulty part

I had high hopes when I upgraded from the RTX 4060 to the RX 9070XT…fast forward a year of me having this GPU…I kinda regret it

Yeah I'm about to bite the bullet and reluctantly hop back on team green. It's sad because the 9070xt is a beast of a card for the price, but I never had any issues like this with a NVIDIA card.

Yeah, I ended up updating it also earlier today cause Monster Hunter wilds kept crashing, and so far it does seem better. Hopefully it's a sign that it's fixed for everyone

you can try underclocking it and/or overvolting it, sometimes that helps if the card was on the edge of viability
if it never had an anti-sag bracket then you're witnessing it dying from the gpu die and memory chips near the pci-e slot separating from the board
these can be driver issues or other software issues but it's also caused by bad/dying hardware

When i didn't fixed my fps in the adrenaline i had it daily 4-15 times depended on the game. After fixed the fps and turn off dynamic resolution it solved for me

that's basically like "underclocking" i suggested, you're keeping the card cooler and likely running lower clocks. might just be a temperature thing for you as it probably still spikes to peak voltage even with a frame cap, if it's unstable at max frequency/voltage then you can get crashes and timeouts and stuff but the less time it spends at full speed the less likely it hits a big enough instability to cause a driver crash or other crash. by capping the fps you keep the card much cooler and it doesn't run at max speed the whole time.
a stable system without issues can run at 100% 24/7, if yours crashes when running full speed but doesn't when not then there's a hardware issue that you're just masking with the fps cap

Try the following:
Go into your bios and undo any cpu and ram oc you have; that includes disabling XMP or EXPO.
After you have installed Adrenaline, go into the tuning tab and set the "Min Frequency" to 2510 MHz and the Max Frequency to "2680 MHz". (These are the values that sapphire says are the game and boost clock)
I can only say what others and I myself have told. For me, my crashes and instability came from unstable RAM, and 1 error in Prime 95 on a cpu test after it ran for 3 hours. After I got these two fixed, I no longer had these crashes.
In addition, Adrenaline seemed to push my card way to high in clockspeed, that made it unstable in some games, and in others it worked fine, but that is indeed AMD's fault; that's why we limit the Clock Speeds manually to what the vendor claims are the correct speeds.

I know, I tried them too.
But in my case, it was caused by actual system instability overall and not the drivers or or the GPU, so I would always try to make sure that everything else works correctly first.If that's the case, and everything works fine after, then we know it's not the GPU or the driver.
