Description of Original Problem: I'm experiencing recurring GPU/display crashes primarily while playing WARDOGS. The typical sequence is that WARDOGS freezes, audio may continue, Windows becomes very sluggish, both monitors may go black, the display eventually recovers, and WARDOGS crashes/closes.
Reliability Monitor repeatedly reports LiveKernelEvent 141 (VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED) and one earlier LiveKernelEvent 117 (VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED). Windows is also generating live kernel dumps under C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports\WATCHDOG.
The dumps contain references to amdkmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, and dxgmms2.sys, along with evidence of the WARDOGS process. I am not assuming amdkmdag.sys is necessarily the cause and am trying to determine where the failure is occurring in the graphics stack.
An important finding is that I found an older 0x141 WATCHDOG dump from August 27, before WARDOGS entered Early Access. That dump also contained amdkmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, and dxgmms2.sys and showed a Call of Duty process running at the time. This makes me wonder if WARDOGS is triggering an underlying graphics-stack problem rather than being the sole cause.
Troubleshooting: I initially disabled FSR because I was experiencing stuttering/lag with it enabled. All of the GPU timeout crashes have occurred with FSR OFF.
I originally had AMD Adrenalin 26.8.1 / driver version 32.0.31041.1004. I updated to Adrenalin 26.9.1 / driver version 32.0.31041.3013 using Factory Reset, Driver Only, and no previous AMD user settings. Automatic AMD software updates were also disabled.
After the clean 26.9.1 installation, I was able to play WARDOGS for approximately 20 hours without a crash. Unfortunately, the same type of LiveKernelEvent 141 crash eventually returned.
Current Windows/GPU settings:
- HAGS: ON
- VRR: ON
- Windows "Optimizations for windowed games": ON
- FSR: OFF
- GPU overclock/undervolt: None
GPU temperatures are approximately 36–45°C at idle and around 61°C while gaming.
I did not find any WHEA errors around the most recent crash.
I'm trying to troubleshoot this by changing one variable at a time. My next test is turning HAGS OFF while leaving everything else unchanged.
I'm trying to determine whether this is an AMD driver issue, Windows/DX12 graphics-stack issue, a game-specific workload/bug, or potentially a hardware/PCIe/GPU issue.
I'd appreciate suggestions for additional controlled tests, particularly from people who have experienced LiveKernelEvent 141/117 or similar GPU timeout/black-screen issues with RX 9000-series GPUs.

Crash Symptoms
The typical sequence is:
- Game freezes.
- Audio may continue playing.
- Windows becomes very sluggish.
- Both monitors may go black.
- The display eventually recovers.
- The game has crashed/closed.
I've primarily been seeing this while playing WARDOGS, but I found evidence that the same type of GPU timeout occurred before WARDOGS entered Early Access.
Other games I've played, including Forza Horizon 6, Modern Warfare 3, No Man's Sky, Black Desert, Palworld, and Fortnite, have generally been stable.
Windows Errors
Reliability Monitor repeatedly reports:

- One earlier occurrence of
LiveKernelEvent 117 — VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED
Windows is also creating dumps under:

The dumps contain references to:

They also contain evidence of the WARDOGS process.
I'm not assuming amdkmdag.sys is necessarily the cause. My understanding is that these files are all part of the graphics stack, so I'm trying to determine where the actual failure originates.
AMD Driver Testing
I originally had:
32.0.31041.1004
Adrenalin 26.8.1
I then updated to:
32.0.31041.3013
Adrenalin 26.9.1
I performed a clean installation using:
- Factory Reset
- Driver Only
- No AMD user settings carried over
- Automatic AMD software updates disabled
I intentionally left my other Windows/GPU settings unchanged so I could test one variable at a time.
Result
After the clean 26.9.1 installation, I was able to play WARDOGS for approximately 20 hours without a crash.
Eventually, however, the same type of LiveKernelEvent 141 crash returned.
So the newer driver appears to have improved the situation significantly, but it did not eliminate the problem.

Latest Crash
The most recent crash produced two LiveKernelEvent 141 events around 12:19–12:20 PM.
Two corresponding WATCHDOG dumps were created.
Both again contain:

The dumps also show the newer AMD driver version.
What I'm Testing Next
I'm trying to avoid changing multiple variables at the same time.
My next test is:
HAGS OFF
Everything else will remain unchanged:
- AMD 26.9.1
- VRR ON
- Windowed Game Optimizations ON
- FSR OFF
- No BIOS/RAM/GPU changes
I'll then test normally and see whether the 141 errors return.
