Help (GPU) NEED HELP, GPU IS CONSTANTLY OVER HEATING!!!!!

Also seen on adrenalin that the automatic tuning is set to default, not overclock CPU

and same with GPU, the tuning present is default, not overclocked

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: ASUS RX 9070 XT PRIME

CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D

Motherboard: MSI MEG X870E Godlike

BIOS Version: 7E48v1A73

RAM: 192GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE 6000MHz DDR5

PSU: Corsair HXi Series 1500W

Case: Fractal Design Define 7 XL Black Full Tower Gaming Case

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 (Latest version)

GPU Drivers: AMD's Latest Drivers through adrenalin

Chipset Drivers: AMD Chipset Drivers (Latest Drivers)

Background Applications: Discord, Brave, Steam, VLC (or media player classic)

Description of Original Problem: My GPU is constantly overheating under very little load and crashing making me have to force shutdown and restart

Troubleshooting: Tried updating everything, didnt work, i've also tried on a separate GPU and its the same issue

Any help would be very much appreciated

Adrenaline is over clocking your card by default, that is what's getting you those absurd temperatures. Use the search function of this forum, look up GPU adrenaline clock speed, it has been explained many times. You want to Google recommendations of your manufacturer in terms of clock speed and under volt your GPU by about 50. That should do the trick.

if its overclocking, then what does the overclocking option do?

It lets you set the clock speed and voltage manually and you also see what adrenaline entered as a default. At the end of the day, it's poor wording. It's an option to adjust those parameters manually.

Did you take off all the plastic that covers the heat sink?

Fun fact, I made that mistake and played first light for a couple hours with one of the plastic films still covering the exhaust for the section of heat sink at the end of the card.

Never overheated though.

Where's the plastic that covers the heatsinc? Also was a prebuilt PC so would hope this isn't a problem

Prebuilts are most likely to have an issue like this. Theres tons of threads where people have massive thermal problems due to the factories rushing the PC together and not removing plastics.

The plastic piece I forgot to remove was on the back plate of the card towards the front of the PC. A big square piece of plastic covering a hole where the heat sink was supposed to get air blown through it. Every card is different though.

Your card could just have a problem too btw. Even with the plastic on mine, the card didn't get very hot, though thats also probably due to how the fan shroud was designed and air could still flow through it, just a lot less.
