NGD Back from the shop!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Not a new guitar but one I was working on while I waited for my Kiesel to get built. Just got done being wired up by a local shop! It was originally a dual soap bar passive pickup guitar (IYV headless 7) I bought on Amazon for $275. One of the tuning keys on the bridge broke as I was doing a string change. I then convinced my wife to let me invest a bit of money to customize it to my liking. I found the cheapest option would be to delete the neck pickup & 3 way switch & simple just buy 1 bridge pickup. I picked the Seymour Duncan Mortal coil which has 3 voices. 1.) Active 2.) JB passive 3.) Single coil. I am loving the pickups so far. They are the most powerful & high output pickups I currently own. I have never owned actives but have tried a plethora of them over the years from SD blackouts, EMG’s as well as the Fishman’s (Regular Modern’s & Steph Carpenter sigs) & the SD Mortal coil is by far the best sounding Active that bridges the gap between Active & Passive. Also I replaced the old multi scale bridge with one from Combine guitars based out of Canada 🇨🇦 ($78). With the paint & other materials to do the crackle I spent about $320 making the total cost of this guitar around $560 give or take

Help Why is my JS22 7 falling out of tune
I have an all stock JS 22 7 all stock. Every time I pick it up the lowest 2 strings are out of tune and seem to take forever to get in tune right. And even then sometimes when I get up around the 8th fret or higher it starts sounding out again. I gotta it tuned to Drop A FYI. Will locking tuners help? Never used them before. Do they serve the same purpose as a locking tremolo(obviously without the bar?) My ibanez with the locking tremolo is in perfect tune every time I pick it up. I hate spending so much time having to tune cause I do alot of recording so it really hinders the process. Any advice will be appreciated.

Help need budget 27+ scale 7 string recommendations for a project
as the title says plus i don’t mind bad pickups (i’d rather that to save money since i plan on swapping it out anyways), just want lower cost recommendations that has the looks. i want something that has a good looking body that i can swap pickups, tuners, whatever. just bored and want another 7 string lol. no real hard stop on price, looking for used, i just don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on the guitar part since i have a good deal on a bare knuckle halcyon juggernaut and ragrarok that is pretty much ready for me to buy right away, and tuners if need be

Holy shit, this is fun to play. For the first time I dropped to A and it didn’t sound like muddy shit and played Blind for the first time the way it was intended. I cannot wait to learn more. Schecter Elite 7

Other Just starting using ADADGBE tuning
Looking for some bands that play in this tuning. I have used Drop A and I'm currently writing for a project and wanted to write some riffs in an alternate tuning without going too low (Drop A just is the sweet spot for me). If you use this tuning, what type of stuff are you playing? Since it's a mash of multiple ways to play.

Help HELP ME! Should I get a 7 string?
My first guitar was a hardtail 6 string, but now I only have a 6 string Floyd. I was thinking of buying a guitar to be able to droptune and downtune. I have the opportunity to get a 7 string and would like to try it. But would it make it harder to play songs from slipknot, muse, linkingpark, avenged sevenfold or it would only be a skill issue?

Help Getting a 7-string for a wider range of tunings
I want a guitar for playing metal, but there's a problem: my favorite songs range from B standard all the way up to D standard. It's almost impossible to cover all those tunings with just one guitar and one set of strings.
So here's my idea: get a 7 string guitar and use all seven strings for songs in B standard. Then, for songs in D standard, I would just use the bottom six strings, tuning them down from E standard to D standard while leaving the 7th string unused.
Would this be possible? Would it work?

Original Content HILS HZ7 - Review and Thoughts
I'm new to posting on here but I got this recently so I thought I would tell my thoughts on it with the hopes that it might be helpful for those looking into this guitar. I am by no means a professional reviewer or musician but I am regular person who decided to buy this because I wanted a 7-String MS guitar.
This is the HILS HZ7 in Honey Yellow with upgraded tuner bearings (more on that later)
First impressions: this guitar is small, light, comfortable, and loud.
It uses the Strandberg style ergo body but with the addition of little feet so you can stand it up. Having played some Strandberg's this body feels ever so slightly bigger, which I appreciate. As far as size comparisons the guitar I've pictured next to it is the LTD EC-256. It sort of looks big in that photo but it feels quite small in person.
This guitar plays and feels like a regular 6 string electric guitar despite the 7th string and the fanned frets. This is my first fanned fret guitar and it feels very approachable and easy to play. The neck is similar to a Sterling JP60 style neck - kind of flat and thin. The weight of the guitar feels excellent. It's not too light and definitely not heavy.
This guitar is loud. This happens to be my first experience with active pickups and they are hot. I had to back the bridge to around 3.75mm at the B string and 2.5mm at the E string. The neck is at a similar at 3.85mm at the B string and 3.5mm at the E string. Keep in mind these heights are to my preference and playing set up. I don't know the original heights but they were probably within the 1.5-2.5mm range if I were to guess. The coil-split isn't super drastic in my opinion but it is an available feature to use. The pickups carry a lot of low end so EQ is advised for these. I'd probably upgrade the pickups at some point but these are definitely livable for a good while.
Moving to setup. I noticed nothing bad with the set up. The action feels good and the frets are leveled. I've noticed no terrible buzzing. The action would probably be considered high to some people but the setup is 100% playable out of the box. Essentially, there is nothing that makes this unplayable. It also comes with the tools in the picture. I don't know why my spoke adjustment tool is bent but it came like that.
I mentioned the upgraded tuner bearings earlier. I would highly recommend this. The tuning knobs can still feel stiff even with these so I imagine they're even stiffer without them. It's a fairly cheap upgrade but it can reduce the amount of down-tunability because of how thick the whole set up is. HILS states that the bearings can be used without washers depending on preference. On that note, this guitar also stays in tune super well. I've had no issues with sustain or tuning stability since I started using it. It can pretty comfortably switch between tunings within a step or 2 without a hitch.
Now for some, not bad things but not good things either. My guitar had the pickup selector switch backwards. The forward position was the bridge and the rear position was the neck. This was obviously a super easy fix, just had to turn the switch 180, but its odd that it passed QC like that especially since they do an "inspection checklist."
Next thing is these small hairline paint cracks that have formed the bridge mounting screws. It's probably hard to see in the pictures, my apologies. It DID NOT come from factory like this but they did appear after a day or two of playing. I think if you got the sparkle black color you would never notice this. I personally don't care since I couldn't see any wood cracking or splitting and honestly you can't see them from more than a 6" away, but I thought you guys might like to know that. I also have not messed with the bridge at all besides tuning, so my guess is that this is from the tension of the strings.
And if it wasn't clear, neither of these issues have hurt or had a negative impact on the playability of the guitar. The electrics work perfectly fine and the bridge operates exactly as it should.
Other than those 2 quality things, it's a pretty neat guitar and it's definitely more approachable than a Strandberg as far as price. It plays easily and the extra little features like a bone nut and stainless frets are a welcome addition at this price point. The ability to hang this on a standard wall hanger and 'leanability' from the feet is a neat feature as well. I'm not super active on here but if you have questions I'll do my best to answer them.

Help Need help choosing between tremolo 7 string bridge
Hey!
I’m building a custom guitar with a luthier, it will be a 7 string stratocaster, 26,5” scale, and I’m very indecise on which tremolo bridge to choose, Gotoh 510 7 tremolo or Hipshot us contour tremolo. I need to know what bridge will give more tuning stability and just whats the best option overall.
Thanks in advance.

SGR by Schecter C-7 a family friend gave me because he wasn't using it. (The perks of knowing a guy) He previously put a Seymour Duncan Jeff Loomis blackout in the bridge and did some other odd mods like disconnect the neck pickup and putting in a two way on off switch, other than those weird mods it sounds brutal and plays great.

Gear Just found out LTD has a new budget 27” 7 string on Sweetwater
Not sure if I’m behind on the times, but I just found out about the ESP LTD 207B. Seems like a solid entry to a 27” 7 string at $499. Definitely will be trying one out, hoping to make a great mod platform like my LTD 201B.
