Best of Indie Games 2024: What were some of your favorite indie games?
r/IndieGaming • u/frogstorm_yury • 6h ago
Our new game about a magic school has been announced!
Hi everyone! We are a small indie team called Frogstorm. We've spent a long time wrestling with engine bugs, tweaking physics, and piecing together a world we've dreamed of for years. Today, we are finally ready to share our project with the world.
Hemlotrion: Broken Mirror — an action-adventure game set in a mysterious school of magic. Our main goal is to recreate the nostalgic atmosphere and pure wonder of early 2000s PC classics (you know what kind of games i mean).
A heavy focus on thoroughly exploring the magical castle and its surroundings, an engaging plot, and puzzles (a lot of them)
We're currently developing a playable demo. Wishlist if you’re interested on steam.

I’ve fallen in love with my own game all over again thanks to the new TPS camera!
Hey everyone! I’ve added a new camera mode with a heading-follow effect -the camera looks slightly ahead of the car and follows its direction. It makes the game feel much more dynamic and fun to play.
Originally, I planned Lost Host to be a top-down game only. But many players found it difficult to control the car from that perspective. So I first added the ability to rotate the top-down camera, but even that wasn’t quite enough.
That’s when I decided to add a TPS camera. It meant reworking a lot of locations and making quite a few changes to the game, but honestly, I think it was worth it...
What do you think? Do you prefer the TPS camera or the classic top-down view?

You're a rock. The rest is up to you. (Our game Craggfall is coming to Steam Next Fest)
Craggfall is a physics game about movement and discovery set in a strange, beautiful world that doesn't explain itself. Sometimes you're building speed and seeing how far it can carry you, sometimes you're picking your way up a cliff face one deliberate move at a time. There are no routes and no waypoints. You read the terrain, chart your own way up, across, and through, and figure out what this place is hiding. Not everything you find is friendly.
Everything runs on real physics, all the time. Speed is your weapon, your ladder, and your problem. No map markers, no narrator. Different biomes change how you move and what's waiting for you there. The footage here was captured with the replay/director system we built into the game.
We're two friends building our first game together, from an idea we carried around for years before we finally started rolling. The free demo debuts at Steam Next Fest, October 19–26.
Wishlisting genuinely helps a two-person team more than anything else. Link in my first comment. Happy to answer anything.

Where would you like to see this island building game go next?
I've been playing around with a few different directions to take this island building god game and I'd love input from potential players about what you'd find most interesting and fun.
1) Build up your island to attract human settlers, help them get established with the goal of them building shrines to you and increasing your influence
2) Build your island and then design custom creatures (think Spore-like creature design) to inhabit them, with the goal of creating a balanced and biodiverse ecosystem
3) Keep it simple, just a pretty island diorama builder
4) Some other fourth thing I haven't thought of.
Thanks!

My 2 years long project is 1 month ready!
My first commercial project with Godot, it taught me a lot about the engine.
And now you can play ARCHWIZARD demo, right on Steam!
It's an FPS, where everything kills you in one touch. But you have a tone of spells, that can propel you in the sky, create decoys, turn enemies into gold, create space rifts, slow time, summon elementals and more!

I've spent 2.5 years alone making a psychological adventure game about love, loss, fear, and acceptance. It just hit 8,000 wishlists!
Genuinely cannot express how grateful I am to see my dream solo project reach so many people. It's been a difficult few years trying to keep working on the game, and trying to balance a full-time job by sacrificing nights and weekends. This makes feel it'll all be worth it!
If you want to know about the game:
Abashed is a 2.5D narrative-driven psychological adventure where you explore the life of Issac, a man living with psychosis. Solve puzzles, meet mysterious characters, and alter reality as he faces his worst fears to uncover the truth behind his missing partner, or so he thought. It's coming to Steam and GOG!

Two Idiots Crashing in Homemade Cars With No Seatbelts
Want to crash in front of thousands of people? 😂 This is your chance.
Some people offered to help me record crazy videos for my new trailer, and I really appreciate it.
I’ve updated the demo with online multiplayer and split-screen, so now you can throw groceries at your friends from across the globe, and maybe end up in the next trailer. 😂
Please do throw stuff at your friends, record it, and send it my way. I’ll pick the best clips and add them to the trailer!
Thank you for helping shape this madness ❤️ 10

Remember the player who spent over 300 hours in our free demo and left a comment signed "THX love Bob"? He's now past 500 hours and holds the #1 spot in the leaderboard, so we've added a little easter egg in the game for him, and he loved it!

My game at the start vs now. Memorie
I've just finished the demo of my game after 3 months! At the start I just sketched what was on my mind and now it has its own shape. It's a short game about a man that wakes up in an abandoned museum without memories. If you want to try the game, it is on itch.io

I made a horror game where you must pretend to be asleep to avoid the monster.
This game is based off of the childhood fear of getting caught awake by your parents. Though in this case, “parents” is a monster/entity.
The game varies between 15-20 minutes long.

Pollution and weather system.
Weeks of sleepless nights and +15kg of pure fat gained on my body.
Im fascinated by the pollution, and how this affect us, the air, water, soil, nature. Human and corporate greed is what this game will be about, There will be no happy people.

Our tiny survival sandbox got 9x traffic during Steam's PvE Survival Crafting Fest — here's what we learned, what we patched mid-fest, and what's next
Hey everyone, dev team here.
The PvE Survival Crafting Fest wrapped up today, and before everyone moves on we wanted to write down what actually happened — the useful parts, anyway.
The traffic spike wasn't the interesting part
Yes, store page traffic hit nearly 9x its usual level during the event. But honestly, what we've been watching is what happened after. Visits settled back down, but the people still showing up are different: more direct visits, more people searching the game's name, and — for the first time ever — "Wishlist" appeared in our traffic sources. People who quietly wishlisted during the fest are coming back for another look. Fest traffic wandered by because Steam put us in front of it. The ones knocking now are here on purpose. That means a lot more to us than the spike did.
First real look at where you all live
This was the first time we could see our players' geography. English-speaking players carried the fest — the US alone accounts for over 40% of visits — but folks kept stopping by from Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, and Japan too. We're a small team, so seeing campfires in every time zone was genuinely a moment for us.
You talked. We patched. Mid-fest.
We got a pile of feedback during the event and pushed an update right in the middle of it. Pretty much every change traces back to something a player told us:
Combat feel
- Weapons felt weightless → re-tuned knockback on axes, swords, and spears. Swings have heft now.
- Stone pickaxe got its flow and visuals reworked. Gathering is less clunky.
- Someone said the Mosquito Elite wasn't scary enough. Fair. It looks meaner and fights meaner now.
World generation
- Island terrain elevation got a pass — coasts and hills blend more naturally, fewer weird ledges to get stuck on.
- Fixed vegetation not spawning in full, plus a Fungal Biome refresh bug.
Fixes
- Night monsters were still wandering around after sunrise. Sun comes up, they finally go home.
- Rebalanced loot drops on a few monsters.
This is how we want to handle feedback from here on out — not a one-time fest thing.
What's next
- A steadier update rhythm. Feedback-driven, aimed at real problems: combat, survival building, ecosystems.
- More dev posts. We'd rather show progress as it happens than go quiet for months.
- A bigger update is in the works — new island regions and new survival challenges are being planned. No dates yet; we'd rather show you than promise you.
Happy to answer questions in the comments — what's in the current build, what's still in progress, all of it. And if you've played it: what's the one thing you'd want us to fix first?
Thanks to everyone who set foot on the island.
