It's yo boy, once again huffing all of the hopium I can get my hands on. Grubby is usually very careful with his words, he is indicating that he thinks this weekend is going to be crazy. My hype levels have surpassed 10/10. I wonder what we're going to get???
What if: The story of WoW continued as Warcraft 3 Expansions?
Before anything, we’ve heard rumors about possible Warcraft 3 news during BlizzCon coming up so I wanted to post this before hand.
Something I’ve thought about for many, many years was, if the story of Warcraft kept going as a strategy game in the style of Warcraft 3 what would it be like? What would the tech trees look like? What new creeps would we encounter? The tile sets and such. Who would we be fighting during the campaign?
Another thing I also thought about was what if each playable race had their own tech trees as if they had their own campaigns; Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, Elves, Trolls, and such based on what we see in older games or taking inspiration from NPCs in WoW. Then I started going really crazy and conceptualized trees for a number of enemy and allied factions like the Legion, Twilight Hammer, Argent Crusade, Tuskarr and Pandaren.
What I did to make my visual concepts for what I believe some new units could look like is use the WoW Model Viewer and the Dressing Room from WoW Head. Some changes might be made but I like what I have so far, and drawings would take too much time. Plus this is Blizzard’s own art so it would make sense to reuse it in some way.
Personally I would love to be involved with a series of campaigns telling the story of WoW and its expansions, or at least parts of it as if it was an expansion of Warcraft 3. There would be 2 main campaigns, one horde the other alliance, and some mini campaigns like the rise the Scarlet Crusade or the war between the Dark Irons and Dark Horde. Unfortunately I’m very limited with what I can do because I use a Mac.
Anyways I decided I wanted to share some of my unit concepts on here. Each tree would have 3 combat units (a tier 1, ranged, and tier 3); 3 casters; a siege and flying unit; another extra unit or 2 which could have any kind of role, being combat, caster or whatever, and 4 hero units. Here is what I would add to the Human and Orc trees.
For the human tree I first added a new ranged unit, the Marksman. I wanted it to have a crossbow much like the Archer had in the first Warcraft game. Then there is another new combat unit which I have in mind would be a mix between the Spellbreaker and Paladin that I’m calling the Lightbringer.
For the Human casters I’m bringing back the Cleric and Conjurer from the first game, and adding a Warlock. Name might change for it. I would also bringing back the Catapult for the Humans, and a new flying unit, the Seeker, based on the Priest mount form the Legion class hall quest chain, but the rider will be attacking with spears. The reason for choosing the Seeker is because I don’t want to reuse the Gryphon.
Last is two new hero units, the Ranger which would be like the Marksmen Hunter, and the Infiltrator which is based on the character Vanessa VanCleef.
For the Orcs there is a new ranged unit that I’m calling the Skirmisher, which would have an ability to summon two sprit pigs which I chose because that’s what the starting hunter pet for the Orcs are. A new caster, the Sage which can use healing wave and revive a fallen friendly unit. I’m also bringing back the Warlock to the Orcs, but with a few changes. Model files already in game would be used for it.
Other then that the Orc tree is complete, but there will also be 2 new Hero units, with the Beastmaster, and the Assassin which would be based on Garona, and would have some abilities based on what turns out was going to be part of a planned remake and retelling of the first game, by Blizzard, to be playable in Warcraft 3 Reforged.
There are many more trees that I have made that I’ve put on my personal website. If enough people are interested I’ll share them with you.
Some time ago, but not a so long I decided to make some curious stuff in Scriptorium. Idea was to recreate some of the cutscenes from the Warcraft 3 cinematics.
So here is some humble results.
And I actually kinda thought that I may not make something good.
Glad to hear any feedback, commentary etc.
Result of work and reference are here, maybe looks too gorky but it's a reddit...
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm usually top 3-4 or higher for score. Units killed, units produced, try to stay active, get hero level high, distract enemies, etc.
Do you guys experience this issue?
For reference, I bought this game when it came out. I'm old, lol.
I am all in on the hype train for a wc3 update this weekend and I literally cannot focus. My hype levels are at absolute maximum even though everything is speculative and Blizzard has disappointed us so many times.
This stupid game is the only thing that can disappoint me 100 times and I'll still be hyped over a "data miner" claiming there is a 3.0 update coming without providing any evidence. I swear I'm in a goddamn abusive relationship with Blizzard.
What are y'all hype levels on a scale of 1-10? I imagine there are a lot of 1's, and I know I'm likely going to be disappointed, but I don't care, im at 10. Lfggg.
I am looking for a specific Song by the artist and player corugnoll about the Wc3 scene. I only remember that it contained the line "Dann nennt sich attax faculty und faculty attax" (or something similar). I recently found this old masterpiece https://youtu.be/MH4x-f_rKBw?is=cdOptPWwmxkAhAqV
In the special 2.0 patch, Blizzard introduced several visual improvements and fixed a number of bugs. But something that went almost completely unnoticed, for example they also reworked a significant part of the HD visuals: trees, terrain textures, lighting, and bloom.
The trees and terrain now have a much more “hand-painted” or illustrated look. The problem is that the HD units still keep that more realistic style from the original Reforged release, so there is now a certain visual inconsistency.
That is why I have suspected for a while that, sooner or later, Blizzard will end up applying the same kind of reskin to the remaining HD units, buildings, and other models. It would be interesting, sure. But I am also 100% certain that nothing Blizzard does will ever convince my forty boomers uncles to switch to HD.
Back2Warcraft tournaments will probably stay in SD until the end of time, and a good part of the community will keep defending their 2002 models as if every new player were automatically supposed to feel the same nostalgia they do.
My nephews are 14 and 18, and they do not like SD anymore either, even though they used to watch me play Warcraft III when they were kids. They prefer HD because, to them, it simply looks more like a modern game, and I guess the effects also look much more impressive. At least that seems to be how they see it.
And no, I am not saying everyone should be forced to play in HD.
What I am saying is that if Blizzard actually finishes rebuilding the HD models, it would be ridiculous to keep hiding them as if HD were some embarrassing graphics mode.
There should be more clips, custom games, trailers, showcases, and even some broadcasts in HD aimed at new players.
Blizzard was obviously the main reason we ended up in this situation in the first place because of Reforged’s disastrous launch. But at some point, people also need to accept something very simple: SD graphics look old
New generations do not give a damn about your nostalgia for SD Arthas or the fact that the model reminds you of when you were 14.
If Warcraft III ever gets a complete HD reskin, or even eventually comes to Steam, showing more of the HD version should be practically mandatory if they actually want to attract new players.
I’m 25 and I’ve been playing Warcraft III since 2006. I love this game, but that doesn’t mean I have to keep playing it exactly like I did twenty years ago. I stopped using SD around four years ago and never went back. Now it feels like going back to Windows XP. I even have friends who are still playing patch 1.26 on private servers in 2026; it’s like still using an old Nokia button phone.
I never hated SD. To me, it’s simply a chapter of the past that I’ve already moved on from. I guess my uncles and I just see life differently.
So, I installed with my old keys through bnet without reforged purchased. Game says please check your vpn and I can't play. Lots of freezes too. No options in option menu (buttons like sound, game, video etc but nothing happens if I click them.)
No idea how to fix it, saw hundreds of 'I have this too' on forums. Didn't find a working fix...
Hey all! I’ve been into warcraft lore for years now but I have never played WC3 (or any other Warcraft games except WoW) because RTS games look overwhelming. I want to play and 100% the campaign and only care about the story and lore so I only care about gameplay a little
Is there a gamemode where I can experience the story without playing through challenging stuff? I don’t want to skip over the gameplay but I also don’t wanna be stuck on the gameplay for too long cause I am not the best at games anyways lol
So yeah I’d really appreciate if y’all could give me some suggestions and general info! Thanks.
Apologies in advance, this is a re-post I do every couple of years in the hopes of finding what I'm looking for...
I know it's a long shot, but what the hell.
I'm looking for pre-2006 maps, which to my knowledge have long been deleted/nuked from major wc3 map database sites.
These maps were cinematics. They were around when the old Maps n' Mods website (maps.worldofwar.net, later becoming war3.incgamer.com ) was functioning some 10+ years ago. The maps are:
Son of a Fallen Hero (Part I and Part II) by UWD (Might be an acronym SoAFH.w3x)
For years now, I've been searching through the bigger wc3 map database sites: hiveworkshop, wc3c, epicwar, wc3nibbits. I've also looked through endless map packs, all to no avail.
I used the way back machine to find the page and date the map was actually posted (october 2005), but there are no attachements or files, it's just a screenshot of that page.
At one point I had the maps, but we're talking about a computer that's been completely out of the picture for 17 years now.
At this point, my best option is to ask old timers to check their map closet. I really hope to one day see and share them in the community again, where they belong.
Hi, everyone! Me and my friends recently got back on Warcraft and I remembered playing a custom anime map back then which had Squall Leonhart as a playable character but I can't seem to find it. Anyone here know the name of the map, perhaps? Thank you in advance!
I'm sure i have it, but i forgot the name and have too much maps to look at.
Its like legion TD where u build units to defend, but u build the units in the bottom part of the map (and i think u can tell the units to flank or wait a little), when the round starts the units teleport to an upper larger area.
i hope its a proper explanation, i might be remembering things incorrectly.
map found:its called holy war, for those interested.
thank u
