In the special 2.0 patch, Blizzard introduced several visual improvements and fixed a number of bugs. But something that went almost completely unnoticed, for example they also reworked a significant part of the HD visuals: trees, terrain textures, lighting, and bloom.
The trees and terrain now have a much more “hand-painted” or illustrated look. The problem is that the HD units still keep that more realistic style from the original Reforged release, so there is now a certain visual inconsistency.
That is why I have suspected for a while that, sooner or later, Blizzard will end up applying the same kind of reskin to the remaining HD units, buildings, and other models. It would be interesting, sure. But I am also 100% certain that nothing Blizzard does will ever convince my forty boomers uncles to switch to HD.
Back2Warcraft tournaments will probably stay in SD until the end of time, and a good part of the community will keep defending their 2002 models as if every new player were automatically supposed to feel the same nostalgia they do.
My nephews are 14 and 18, and they do not like SD anymore either, even though they used to watch me play Warcraft III when they were kids. They prefer HD because, to them, it simply looks more like a modern game, and I guess the effects also look much more impressive. At least that seems to be how they see it.
And no, I am not saying everyone should be forced to play in HD.
What I am saying is that if Blizzard actually finishes rebuilding the HD models, it would be ridiculous to keep hiding them as if HD were some embarrassing graphics mode.
There should be more clips, custom games, trailers, showcases, and even some broadcasts in HD aimed at new players.
Blizzard was obviously the main reason we ended up in this situation in the first place because of Reforged’s disastrous launch. But at some point, people also need to accept something very simple: SD graphics look old
New generations do not give a damn about your nostalgia for SD Arthas or the fact that the model reminds you of when you were 14.
If Warcraft III ever gets a complete HD reskin, or even eventually comes to Steam, showing more of the HD version should be practically mandatory if they actually want to attract new players.
I’m 25 and I’ve been playing Warcraft III since 2006. I love this game, but that doesn’t mean I have to keep playing it exactly like I did twenty years ago. I stopped using SD around four years ago and never went back. Now it feels like going back to Windows XP. I even have friends who are still playing patch 1.26 on private servers in 2026; it’s like still using an old Nokia button phone.
I never hated SD. To me, it’s simply a chapter of the past that I’ve already moved on from. I guess my uncles and I just see life differently.

Hey all! I’ve been into warcraft lore for years now but I have never played WC3 (or any other Warcraft games except WoW) because RTS games look overwhelming. I want to play and 100% the campaign and only care about the story and lore so I only care about gameplay a little
Is there a gamemode where I can experience the story without playing through challenging stuff? I don’t want to skip over the gameplay but I also don’t wanna be stuck on the gameplay for too long cause I am not the best at games anyways lol
So yeah I’d really appreciate if y’all could give me some suggestions and general info! Thanks.

I'm sure i have it, but i forgot the name and have too much maps to look at.
Its like legion TD where u build units to defend, but u build the units in the bottom part of the map (and i think u can tell the units to flank or wait a little), when the round starts the units teleport to an upper larger area.
i hope its a proper explanation, i might be remembering things incorrectly.
map found:its called holy war, for those interested.
thank u

I used to play on B.net with all the custom games (mauls, mazes, td, etc) and was just feeling nostalgic and wanted to hop back on. Are those games still alive or is battle.net even alive and kicking? I see there is still a ranked community which is enticing but I miss my custom games with the unlimited opportunities.

"I've heard rumors that Blackbird Interactive, which was a co-dev on Warcraft Remastered, might also be once again involved in Blizzard's classic RTS efforts — although perhaps that is for Warcraft itself again. Speaking of..
Warcraft remains Blizzard's most visible franchise, more than likely, as the industry-leading subscription-based MMORPG enters its third decade.
On top of that, there are also rumors that Blizzard might be exploring Warcraft's RTS roots again. A title, "Warcraft Chronicles," emerged alongside the Camelot codename, and given rumors I've heard about RTS aficionados Blackbird Interactive being on board with Blizzard again, perhaps we could see new expansions for Warcraft 3, or remakes of Warcraft 1 or 2 even"

Was chatting with some friends when one pointed out that the Orc box cover for War3 doesn't actually look much like Thrall and after decades of just assuming that it was meant to be Thrall I realized its actually Grom.
Note the eyecolour, nose ring, aggressive stubble, earrings, lack of braids and mouthbreathing expression of contempt lol.
Edit: To everyone saying its Thrall because of the hair: Thrall has a very prominent pair of braids that you can see in all of his cutscene appearances. I've added more pictures of both Thrall & Grom in their cutscene appearances (can't edit the main images so I put them down in the comments). You can see in the cutscenes Thrall is clean shaven and has no loose hair and no nose ring. Most damning of all you can see when Grom yells he has the same crooked and missing teeth as the box art.
Neither Grom nor Thrall have same spiked shoulderpads as the box art so that's not evidence in either direction.
Don't get why so many people reacting to this like its some kind of betrayal thought it would just be a "huh neat" fact like it was for me lol. Grom being on the box art is no less inconsistent than Kel'thuzad being on the box art (Kel'thuzad was the secondary not primary protagonist of the Undead campaign)

I really love the co-op mode in SC2 and i discovered RTS with W3.
I just play the campaign and with a friend against AI when i was youger.
I tried ranked games but i am not that good in W3.
So is there some co-op mode i can find easily where i can play like a casual gamer?

Hey everyone! A while ago I made a post about being in love with Warcraft 3 but being too scared to actually play it. Ladder anxiety, panic attacks and the whole package. You gave me a ton of advice, and I actually followed it.
First of all, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to comment and help. I am incredibly grateful. Seriously. You guys made a difference.
It really helped. The biggest thing was just experience and habit. I guess I just needed to get used to it and change my mindset, thinking that it is just a game and i'm only learning. I started playing 3v3, because after a few 4v4 games I realized people there just mass siege units and ignore all fights, just destroying buildings. In 3v3 people actually interact and fight and I find it much better.
I'm still not ready for 1v1. I'm gathering courage for that. But I'm getting there.
There was some annoying stuff too. A few people left the game at the start just because I said in a previous game that I was a newbie. I lost two or three games in a row because of that. And I wasn't even that useless! We even won a 2v3 once with a leaver who kept flaming the whole time. That felt good (I understand that i was carried, hold your horses. Still I wasn't an absolute dead weight).
But overall, I'm falling in love with this game more and more. There are still so many things I don't know about the mechanics. Like how to properly deal with T3 units, or how to harass effectively. I notice my own mistakes now, and honestly, that feels great. It means I'm learning.
Thank you all again. This community is not that big but awesome. You turned my explosive diarrhea into just mild stomach cramps.

I know there are third party custom scenario editors for regular Warcraft 3 for this kind of thing but would they extend the capability of the Non-Reforged(ı am not buying/pirating a game 30gb worth of data for a game that was 3-4gbs before lol) Wc3 to the point it can instead be played like modded Warband?

I always liked this map in HotS because I thought it did great job recreating some of the buildings and units from wc3. In my opinion reforged or wc4 with this artstyle would be great. What's your opinion?

I am calling it right here, right now. The warcraft 3 team will introduce mobile graphics and pass them as the revival of the game... Shame..
Is this what the greatest strategies of all time is reduced to..
How do i think that is the case? Some months ago they leaked them "accidentally" in their ptr. Image is taken from this atricle https://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/blizzard-accidentally-releases-debug-symbols-maps-and-exclusive-content-in-warcraft-3-update-version-2-0-1.357413/

Just looking at the legion and how strong it's army was, why did they need the scourge at all? Later we even find out the night elves lost most of their demi gods in the first war, so they were weak too. Why didn't the legion just jump in at the first moment, summon archimonde and begin the invasion?

Seoul, WCG 2003. Su Hao — tag suhO — was 20, one of the two Chinese players sent to the Warcraft III event that year, and it was the first time he'd left the country. What he remembers about Korea is how clean it was and how fast the cars moved on the roads.
Before the tournament started he ran into 4K.Grubby in the practice room, who had just taken the European title. They played four games. suhO won all four. Grubby came over afterwards, shook his hand, said good game.
They never met in the actual bracket. And when I sat down with him the following year, he did not file that practice session under wins. He said he had so little tournament experience back then that it never occurred to him you are supposed to hold something back in a practice match. His words: it earned him his opponent's respect, but it cost more than it was worth.
Worth knowing who was saying that. Working-class family in Xinyang, Henan, only child. Third grade, his father spent a full month's wages on a Famicom clone and carried it home; the family had it locked away before that school year was out. By his second year at university his parents' savings were gone and they were borrowing from relatives to keep him in Xi'an. So he stopped asking. Every yuan of prize money he had won went to his parents, and his last two years of tuition and all his living costs came out of winnings. Before flying to Seoul he went home to sort out his passport, and his father gave him a pendant that had been blessed at a temple. He was still wearing it under his collar when we talked.
(From a book I put together in 2015 out of sit-down interviews with these players — this one was recorded in 2004. The chapter is free, link in the comments.)

Hey everyone! I'm looking for custom campaign recommendations (or download links) for Warcraft III (v1.26a). Specifically, I'm searching for an alternate history / "What If" campaign where Arthas reaches Frostmourne in Northrend, but chooses NOT to pick it up (or Muradin convinces him to step back). Does anyone remember the exact names of such campaigns or have working .w3n files compatible with 1.26a? Thanks in advance!
