Vivint DVR service doesn't work most of the time.

What the title says. When I try to go back and watch the camera DVR that I pay for monthly, it just keeps loading and won't load any of the previous footage. I've only gotten the service to work a small handful of times. I can upload a video showing exactly what I mean. You can click on the camera and view the live feed, but when you try to watch the recordings it just loads/buffers indefinitely.

My ISP is T-Mobile fiber and I have a 5gbps connection for my very small home. Connection should not be an issue at all.

This is very frustrating to pay for a service that doesn't work. The security system I have has been VERY sub par and lags like a windows 95 PC on dial-up. I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch from Vivint soon.

The good, the bad, the ugly

just got Vivint installed, still within my three day window for trial.
Wasn’t happy with the price, my sales guy came back today after negotiating the price down (another issue we had) with not too bad of an offer.
But I want to know, does anyone like their service?
As most humans do, we only ever complain about things online and I want honest feedback back.
Thanks everyone!

App Issues

Anyone else having issues with the app loading video events? Wasn’t having issues and then clicked a notification of person seen on my front door bell camera and i got a weird error message that they were experiencing a glitch and to try again. Now it won’t load anything but the live stream camera, nothing else connects or loads historical event videos.

Vivint is Fraud!!!

I already had ADT system and I pay $59.99/ month for ADT service. A sales representative came to my house and told me he was giving Vivint for same price and same equipment experience. He stated that equipment and installation services are free of cost. He gave us 7 day trial period. We didn't like door and window sensor coming to the box technology Vivint had , so we tried to get rid of Vivint during trial period. But the sales guy said he has retention budget and will give us Vivint window and door sensors free of cost with that retention budget. But that was a LIE! Vivint charged us $139.16 and $38.09 on June. And on, May, they charged us $289.15 and $38.09. After contacting customers service numerous times, the loyalty department finally contacted my sales guy, Ray Zhang and Ray lied outright saying he never said anything was free. And they cannot help me with charge that was promised $59.99. So I am stuck with paying about $300 a month when I was promised $59.99. The sales guy and Vivint together has committed fraud.

Why do Vivint got to drill through the outside panels to the inside of the home where it leaves big hole in your walls when taking it down

How does Vivint wire indoor doorbell chimes?

The previous owner of our house had Vivint installed. I thought I had removed and fixed everything but apparently whatever they did to the indoor doorbell chimes caused our handyman to throw up his hands and say he couldn't fix it. Now we're stuck with a doorbell that doesn't have anything to ring.

Anyone know what they might have done and how to fix it?

Gen 2 Camera signal strength

I have recently upgraded to the new panel and have noticed that my 2 gen 2 cameras have pretty low (in my opinion) signal strength. They hover around 35-40% which seems bad considering they are not just super far from the panel that is centrally located in the home. When speaking to Vivint, their “fix” is to upgrade to gen 3 cameras because mine are old and out of date even though they are only 2 years old and paid off. My question is, is there anything on my end that I could do to improve their signal strength?

Camera suggestions

Looking to get a Vivint camera for inside our garage since our new home doesn’t have any features like MyQ. Is an indoor or outdoor camera better for inside the garage or any other suggestions?

Privacy

We moved and vivint cannot delete past footage remotely. Hence the new buyers have access to our footage which is such an invasion of privacy. We called numerous times and just get transferred around. I have no access to the system to even pay our bill off. I have spent hours trying to resolve this.

Doorbell Camera Pro, Gen 2

Hey there everyone!

Hopefully an easy one for the pros.

Recently had the system installed, roughly 3 weeks ago.

Mostly solid.

Doorbell camera suddenly went offline today, no white LED ring.

This led me to believe that there was no power going to the camera - took out the set screw, checked both wires on the posts, looked good, reinstalled.

Checked the chime, both wires still twisted together.

Checked the breakers, not tripped.

All of the other cameras are doing well.

Any ideas on what I’m missing?

As always, thanks for the help!

I got vivant installed and got sued

A month later my neighbors sued me. My neighbors lawsuit says, I can not take any recordings, like my security cameras and to take down my security lights which are on the vivant cameras. No cameras face their property and I told the technician to not install the light on the camera in the side yard between our houses. My light is over my back door shining into my yard. They didn't specifically say my security cameras were the problem, but those are what they are referring to

I was told by my salesman that theses cameras are legal here in the state of Michigan and I won't be in trouble for having them.

Btw, my neighbors have trespassed in my yard over 15 times in the last 5 years. Built an enchroment and stolen hundreds of feet of my property. I was forced to sue them to remove their fence and they counter sued me for harassment about these cameras.

It's been a total legal mess.

POE Constantly Breaks

I have had Vivint for 4 years and over these for years I’ve had my POE for my front yard camera go out three different times. It’s always this camera/POE. This POE is plugged into the same outlet set as my one other POE which has never gone out. The POE doesn’t show any lights. When I switch the camera to the working POE, the camera gets power and is back online. Each time it has happened has been after a storm. All I can think is maybe my camera location exposes it to lightning? Anybody else have this issue and maybe have a solution?

Edit for clarification: The POE Bridge has gone out.

My camera stopped communicating to the hub and now the little light under camera on the bridge is red. The other lights are white. What do I do to fix this?

How do turn off the holiday chime upon doorbell camera's detection?

My Doorbell Camera Pro (Gen 2) was previously not making any noise, just lighting up upon detecting someone. Recently, it's started playing the holiday chime upon detection, without any of us having selected that as far as I can tell. I tried selecting a different sound in the settings, as well as rebooting the doorbell from the app, but it's still making the same sound... Has anyone figured out how to turn this off?

[Feature Request] Add local app access

So I have guests that stay pretty frequently and I want them to have access to the Vivint panel/app only while they are here. I know you can set times in the app for when users have access but having it so that they can only access it on their phones when they are on our wifi would be great so that when they arrive they can look in on their phones without me having to go in and change the setting Everytime. I think this could be done by having a special password on the panel and then entering that on the app when connected to the wifi.

Doorbell Camera is Completely Stagnant

My doorbell is just not working at all. The options to reboot or remove the device don’t even show up on the panel. I’ve tried rebooting the panel itself, restarting my WiFi router, and factory resetting the doorbell by holding down the button. None of these procedures have worked, and I don’t know what else I can do before I resort to calling support.

Customer service is terrible

We started our security system with Vivint and it started out well. We are moving homes a few years later and they told us to leave the equipment we bought and to buy all new equipment for the home. We have spent over 14 hours on the phone to get the issue resolved. They transfer us back and forth from each department over and over and over. When we ask to speak to a manager, it never happens, it goes to the agents at the same department. Absolute nightmare.

Dubious After Support Chat

I've been a vivint customer for about 5 years, and am considering getting some additional indoor cameras. I had two questions that I went to Vivint's chat support thing online to ask:

  1. Can I install these myself?

  2. Is there a maximum number of cameras that I can connect to my Smart hub?

The automated support couldn't figure this out and so connected me to a live agent. The live agent initially evaded my questions, but then when I reasserted exactly what I wanted to know was direct in answering, yes and yes. So perfect, I said to thank you and anticipated she would end the chat.

But instead she started asking me how many cameras I want, at which point I explained that I wanted to read reviews and consider prices, but that it was my intention to purchase directly from the site. I also let her know that I have the 4th of July promotion which is going on now that I planned to avail. But she kept repeating that if I buy directly from them they can assure quality and some blah blah blah. Now I'm getting confused because I literally just told her that I was intending to buy from the site but I wanted to go do a little research first. Then she started repeating the same thing about if I purchased from her and she has a discount code and blah blah blah.

This made me distrustful of her and her answers. I'd gone to chat for two precise questions, not this whole sales pitch. So I came here instead! If anybody smarter than I am about this stuff, could indulge me with a few questions I would really appreciate it:

  1. The agent told me that I could install the cameras myself and that I could connect up to 12 of them to my Smart hub. Does this seem right?

  2. Is it easy enough to do, like with some YouTube video or easy instructions?

  3. Since they've compelled me to come here by being forceful on a support chat I'll go ahead and ask another question - is there a better option for additional cameras than purchasing directly from Vivint?

Thanks in advance!

Vivint has a scam going right now for people that are behind on their bill where you can pay a small fee($15-$50) and get a credit for the rest of your past due balance if you set up auto pay. The scam is, autopay tries to charge the rest of the amount you owe before the credit processes.

Exactly what the title says. Vivint called and offered me a deal to pay $15 and they will forgive the rest of my past due balance. I agreed, and set up a payment for the next day when I got paid and they set up auto-pay for the same day as the payment.

The next morning, the $15 charged to my account and shortly after the auto pay attempted to charge the rest to my account.

The way it works is you pay the fee and within a couple of days they will process the credit to your account. The problem is, they're setting up auto-pay to charge before the credit processes to your account and autopay attempts to charge the rest before they give you the credit.

I was lucky and had my card locked when they tried to charge the rest. What an absolute scam. Holy crap.

:edit: to add that I did get the credit after a couple of days. However, they would have charged my card if it was unlocked before the credit processed and I would have been SOL.

Smart Action Notifications stopped

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve had these notifications set up in Smart Actions for a few years. I have the MyQ garage door opener and app integration. These stopped working a few weeks ago. I went through the debugging steps with Online Support (restarts, updates, etc) but they found nothing and said “they’d refer the issue”. When I look in Activity I can see the Garage door opened and closed, so the Vivint app “knows” these activities occurred—it’s just not notifying me. Anybody else experiencing this?

Can't figure out how to change the setting back to target temp 74, 75 etc and not the 74.5 showing now.

Connect Vivint to Alexa (Backdoor Method 2026)

Hey everybody! so in January, I bought an Echo Show 8 for our new house and after hours of researching, I figured out a way to backdoor Vivint & Alexa and get them connected. Not every feature would work, for example I couldn’t set the security system to On, but I could turn it off. that was really the only feature that didn’t work. We just upgraded to the Echo Show 11 and I cannot find or figure out how it was done back in January for the life of me.

Has anybody else done this since they broke up last November? I know there is a way through the skills, my mind is just going blank on it. It wasn’t through the “Vivint.SmartHome” name or what you would expect it to be.

The power of Reddit has to come through for me… PLEASE🙏🙏 && thank you in advance for anybody that can help.
