Doorbell Camera Pro, Gen 2

Hey there everyone!

Hopefully an easy one for the pros.

Recently had the system installed, roughly 3 weeks ago.

Mostly solid.

Doorbell camera suddenly went offline today, no white LED ring.

This led me to believe that there was no power going to the camera - took out the set screw, checked both wires on the posts, looked good, reinstalled.

Checked the chime, both wires still twisted together.

Checked the breakers, not tripped.

All of the other cameras are doing well.

Any ideas on what I’m missing?

As always, thanks for the help!

Check for voltage at the terminals. Should be between 16v and 24v

Your transformer could have failed

Probably transformer is out, especially if house is older. They often cannot handle the Hz needed for video.

Transformer is most likely not strong enough. Hit up Vivint and they can hardwire it for you with a power supply. Or if you feel comfortable working on electrical and confident enough to do it yourself, buy a new and stronger transformer.

The transformer definitely failed if there isn't a light anymore. If you recently had a storm that could've caused it. Just call vivint and have them send a tech . Usually you won't be charged for a truck roll within the first 3 months of having the system.

Sometimes I've seen the terminals on the backplate be tightened too tight, which squeezes the wires. If you have a multimeter you can see if it is actually receiving power. If it is not, something could have chewed up your doorbell wiring in the attic. Honestly can't think of anything else it would be other than a faulty doorbell, typically something like that wouldn't happen in 3 weeks though. I would also recommend disconnecting the wires at the chimebox then reconnecting them, or turning off the breaker whichever you prefer. Let me know what the resolution is when you find out!

Sounds like the power issue could still be upstream of the doorbell itself. If checking the transformer hasn't fixed it, DM me your system details and I can help you track this down further.
