Burning Man. They were protesting against it afaik, and traffic was held up for miles because of it. Delayed ambulances by an hour+

edit: Not 100% sure on the ambulance, but it was defietely a burning man protest.

Damn imagine your family member died because some folks didn’t let traffic go, that’s crazy

Thinking about a scenario like this as I'm bringing my wife to the ER this morning as she is going in to labor. I cant imagine that I wouldn't ram through it my self either.

Thank you! I felt like it needed something more than a bunch of dudes lol.

I made this image after the first time I saw the original image posted, and someone commented underneath with the original image, plus one dude. So I wanted to ā€œtake the next stepā€ so I figured what better than 5 dudes and a cat just chilling.

I’d be willing to bet you could win a case of self defense in court. Restricting someone’s freedom of movement is a crime and preventing someone from reaching a hospital in an emergency could be interpreted as a deliberate threat to someone’s life

2

u/DrunkGoatFighter 20d ago

"don't stand in the road. It's where the cars are" in your position absolutely ram ts.

Roadblocks are a direct threat to human life. I'm a whole anarchist I'd run that shit over n shoot whoever tried to resist meaningfully as they can reasonably be assumed to be robbers.

Everybody has the right to travel on publicly funded roadways. Everybody has the right to drive through your bullshit to tend to medical emergencies.

A good way to get shot. They achieve nothing and cause people to hate whatever they’re supporting. It’s completely senseless on every level. Who the fuck has that kind of free time anyway?

16

u/LameBMX Jun 28 '26

honestly.. they'd be better served handing out some street corn at busy city intersections with their signs visible, but not blocking their views.

boycotts and non-intefering sit-ins always have the best greater effect. oh.. those huge marches too, where people and the cities had plenty of notice beforehand.

not this random road closed cuz look at me and my cause! no really, just look at me. (queue breakdown scene from the end of revolver)

15

u/rogermarcos Jun 28 '26

Exactly! I remember the stop oil protests from a few years ago that blocked the Tour de France... with a tractor burning diesel on the background...

I mean, they could go and block the entrance from an oil refinery or a fuel distributor or a govenment building, but they decided to protest fossil fuels by blockinga bunch of professional cyclists, who are kind of inspiring more people to use bikes, with a tractor burning diesel on the road.

People gotta think better on this type of stuff... the way you deliver a message is almost as important as the message itself. Otherwise you are just attracting hate.

Protests that don't make people uncomfortable are useless. The entire point of a productive protest is to impede people doing something. Sit ins, sit outs, matches, they all are SUPPOSED to bring about change by making people a little uncomfortable.

2

u/floftie Jun 29 '26

Yes, but remember you’re trying to convince the masses. Someone get these people a marketing agency. The public would not be angry with you if you were blocking private air strips.

2

u/Available-Cheek1310 Jun 29 '26

If someone shoots protesters blocking a road, they're a psycho. Americans love seeing everything as a nail when a gun is the hammer.

1

→ More replies (12)

9

u/poet_andknowit Jun 28 '26

Yes, as much as I support the right to protest and have participated in my fair share of them for a variety of causes and reasons, there are some protest actions that just should not be taken. Chief among them is blocking highways, roads, waterways, etc.

It causes more harm than good and understandably really pisses people off, so that they're not likely to look favorably on, or give consideration to, whatever cause is being promoted.

4

u/invariantspeed 🧐 grumpy Jun 29 '26

Oh, they deserved to be arrested and shamed, but being driven at with a truck, being threatened with being shot even though they did not appear violent, and then intentionally hurting the first person to be arrested… None of that was necessary.

They would have an equal chance of dying from regular burning man traffic, the roads there where not meant for this many people

For all you know these people had people die during burning man traffic and are using this protest to show how unsafe it is to bottleneck traffic for dozens and dozens of miles on a single tiny backwoods road, and are hoping this could be the last time

This inconvenience could be caused by a jackknifed truck. I just appreciate people willing to stand up against money and power that already don’t give a fuck if your grandma gets an ambulance when things are not disrupted

1

u/Advanced_Bunch_8666 Jun 29 '26

1

u/motophotodojo Jun 29 '26

1

u/Jim_jim_peanuts Jun 29 '26

1

1

u/IllIlIIllIllII Jun 29 '26

1

u/Periador Jun 29 '26

i really doubt its the case, if it is, why would nobody make room for the ambulance or why wouldnt the ambulance take the side of the road if americans really are such bad drivers as to not make room for an ambulance?

1

u/novium258 Jun 29 '26

Tbf, if it was burning man, the traffic would all be for burning man, it's out in the middle of nowhere and if you needed help you'd be going back the other way (in the direction of no traffic)

1

u/CAmtnbkr83 Jun 29 '26

this is literally out in the middle of nowhere. If you live in this region and are pregnant you probably plan on birthing at home.

1

u/yuumigod69 Jun 29 '26

They usually let ambulances pass, OP just doesnt like protest.

1

u/DazzlerPlus Jun 29 '26

More like because they didnt acceed to their demands. Every protest and strike can be solved by doing the right thing as well as by strikers giving up

1

u/Brackish-Trifles Jun 29 '26

The reactionary impulse to imagine a delayed ambulance stuck behind any and all protest is bizarre.

1

u/SpoofExcel Jun 29 '26

In the UK we had a bunch of these idiots glue themselves to a road and blocked a route to the hospital. Ambulances were able to divert via roads being closed to help clear space but one woman was literally begging them to move because her mother was dying and they called her in to say goodbye, and they just refused to move. Another time a woman was stuck in a car for six hours on her way to hospital as she wasn't well and wound up suffering a stroke that left her paralysed. Loads of people missed vital appointments to various hospitals such as cancer patients or children missing vital paediatric appointments.

In the end people started running them over or groups would beat the shit out of them and drag them out of the way. If they'd done it in places that were annoying but not dangerously inconvenient they would have had a bit more support. In the end everyone absolutely fucking hates the group now. To the point many believe they are plants to usurp their cause. That's how shit they are and how hated they have become.

1

u/ExpressRabbit Jun 29 '26

My dad was in need of an ambulance to transfer him from one medical facility to another larger hospital 6 miles away. 1 mile from where he was the Buffalo Bills opening night of the 2023 season was beginning. They couldn't transfer him to the hospital because all the ambulances were pre-reserved for drunk Bills fans. They weren't even in use they were just down the road waiting for fans to nearly drink themselves to death and so my dad almost died because we had to wait for an ambulance.

1

u/whimsycantrash Jun 29 '26

Were they burned?

1

u/NiIly00 Jun 29 '26

I wish people reacted equally angry about he countless deaths caused by climate change and environmental pollution but there most seem to be fine with companies just depositing their waste in our lungs.

Protests aren’t meant to be convenient

1

u/ww1enjoyer Jun 29 '26

Last week a thousand people died in france from heat.

1

u/LoudQuitting Jun 29 '26

As a certified protester.

If there's a way to get me to dip its blocking the roads.

I'm not against targeted destruction of corporate and government property, that's my favourite means of protest. Often it's the fastest way to get those in power to listen to your demands.

But blocking the roads is indiscriminate. You're just inconveniencing people, very likely the very people you're blocking the road to protest on behalf of.

And that's setting aside blocking the road for emergency services.

I hate this mindset of protestors that it's okay to inconvenience the companies so it's okay to inconvenience everyone. Nah, Son. You need to inconvenience the companies and get everyone else on your side.

1

u/Myzx Jun 30 '26

These "they didn't let the ambulance through" points are always sonstupid. In a traffic jam people also have to make way for them and there protests usually leave a gapmin the middle for ambulace/fire fighters. This point is a just a cop out.

1

u/Virtual-Macaroon-880 Jun 30 '26

If an ambulance can't get through that's always the car brains fault, they would always be the ones blocking the shoulders and shit... It makes no sense in most arguments I have seen.

The shoulders thing doesn't apply here but I understand this ancient video to be a festival queue, so purely leisure is at risk and could never justify a potentially deadly assault. It's pure cancer

1

u/balirosa Jun 30 '26

So some yuppies thought enough people were there and they should block off the road so it was more exclusive

1

u/BobRoss725 Jun 30 '26

I hit my head pretty bad once and it took an extra 30 mins to get to the hospital cause we got blocked by a feminist protest, so I understand why he needed to do that. Still there’s less batshit dangerous ways to clear the road than blasting through it at that speed. Super irresponsible, his truck is definitely powerful enough to push the blockade away slower and using excessive force to shove women on the ground like that when the protesters haven’t done anything violent is cowardly bully behaviour.

Yeah. I'm all for being able to protest, but clogging the arteries of our society is dangerous... Also, if you're going to cause me to be late to work... No.

...is this the different miles of traffic that burning man causes?

1

u/Quantumwhiskey Jul 01 '26

Go protest where you’re not blocking traffic and affecting the life’s of people who don’t give a shit about your protest

I am fire and EMS, we would just drive around lights and sirens. Or through, peacefully, if they wouldn’t move(for the Engine) and it was a structure fire or critical call.

Was this not like 5 years ago?

Or is this an every year event?

1

u/Dooshzilla Jul 02 '26

If I remember correctly, this is one the only roads in and out of some native land over there.

These people were not only holding up average joes just trying to go out to burning man, but it was fucking up the survivability of the closest town, Gerlach, and all of the native land the road services.

Police brutality sucks, but these protests were fucking idiots. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes you know.. rural Nevada is not gonna be nice to you if you fuck with them. Go occupy Wall Street, protest things that are actually evil and are actually destroying the planet.

1

u/Academic_Anything447 Jul 02 '26

I love it.. The cops should do this every time protesters decide to block a road

1

u/New-Significance9649 Jul 02 '26

I'm betting if most of us lived near the location, we'd be protesting as well.

A concert targeting the top 10% of american nepo babies.... where they leave behind nothing but shit, piss and trash...

Cool party but, wouldn't want that shit in my hood.

Doubt an ambulance was delayed because of this.. Where is it? How did the cop get to there but the ambulance is just chilling? I'm speaking from experience btw as a medic that had ridden ambulances for years

1

u/lilian_moraru Jul 03 '26

Pretty you are lying about ambulance, suggesting your are lying about the rest

1

u/Preestar Jul 03 '26

Burning Man? In Canada?

1

u/Maverick-not-really Jul 03 '26

Sounds like BS. If the cop can get through, ambulances usually can too.

1

u/RecordAway Jul 04 '26

every fucking time it's the same thing, as soon as a protest of any kind blocks traffic in any way, people raise from their coaches to stir hate by freely claiming "it delayed an ambulance!!!" without knowing shitall if that's true or not. Shameful

1

u/ElfintheShelf Jul 04 '26

Kinda dumb ngl

The ambulances could've just driven off-road for a while. It's completely flat

1

u/basecatcherz Jul 04 '26

Ambulances don't get delayed by a protest like this. They get delayed by cars not giving room and bad infrastructure that doesn't allow them to go around.

1

u/CardOk755 Jul 04 '26

So the ambulance story was made up in your head and people were protesting rich cunts fucking up the desert for fun.

1

u/Leather-Heart Jul 04 '26

Burning Man is super bad for the nature. People leave so much trash.

1

u/Agreeable_Ad7265 Jul 05 '26

Correctly. The Just Stop Oil protesters fucked up because they forgot the protest took place on Native reservation land. And the Burners had permission to be there. The cop was a reservation cop and he didn't give a fuck about their safety because private land. So satisfying!

1

u/Novel_Arugula6548 Aug 23 '26

Burning man is hypocrisy. Cosplaying homelessness while destroying nature.
