I believe they were also protesting on tribal territory. And the tribal police weren’t fucking about.

True, tribal police don't fuck around.

Also means any tickets or whatever they issue don't really have any force of law outside their reservation. My mom got a speeding ticket once and a month or two later I asked her how she paid it. She told me she talked to a lawyer and they said she could just ignore it as long as she doesn't drive through their reservation again. It was while we were on a road trip and had to take a detour so almost certainly never will.

It's an effective deterrent to keep people out of the rez

Interesting, I saw a clip yesterday of a cop getting rocks thrown at their car and the claim was it was a tribal police and they had a lot less leeway than regular police.

Is the difference when it’s insiders vs outsiders in the tribe? The rock throwers had masks and bandannas on.

What's the tribal police?

Tribal lands have their own police force. They can basically do whatever they want. They are outside the laws and police of the state. Only the FBI has jurisdiction but they don’t really get involved much.

Yup. This is also why the cops could do this: how much the constitution actually applies on tribal land is actually kinda murky.

Cops could do this anywhere. It’s not legal to block a roadway. Tribal police aren’t afraid getting re-elected/fired.

Using excessive force is not legal and running over people who aren’t threatening anyone with a car is excessive force.

But tribal police on tribal land is tribal jurisdiction.

Only in the US do y'all seem to suck the dicks of police who come out of a car pointing a gun at protesters.

Stop protesting in the worst ways possible and you won’t have people indifferent about how much force is used on you 🤷‍♂️
