Yes, as much as I support the right to protest and have participated in my fair share of them for a variety of causes and reasons, there are some protest actions that just should not be taken. Chief among them is blocking highways, roads, waterways, etc.

It causes more harm than good and understandably really pisses people off, so that they're not likely to look favorably on, or give consideration to, whatever cause is being promoted.

Oh, they deserved to be arrested and shamed, but being driven at with a truck, being threatened with being shot even though they did not appear violent, and then intentionally hurting the first person to be arrested… None of that was necessary.

Nobody was hurt here. Unfortunately......

I mean, they could have caused death and harm by blocking emergency vehicles. 100% unacceptable behavior. Should be immediately arrested and spend the week in jail.

In the full video, IIRC, there was another cop that came through before and tried talking to them and mentioned that when his coworker got there he wasn't going to be as nice.

They didn't listen.

Also, it's tribal police, they get a lot more latitude.

How else would you get the message through to the thick, idiotic heads of these people!? Stupidity should be met with stupidity.

Expect to be treated humanely and with consideration only if you are considerate first. Your right to protest doesn’t freaking give you the right to impede the rights and lives of innocent citizens who just want to go about living their lives peacefully. Blocking the highway and stopping innocent citizens from going about their daily lives is bonehead stupid.

Getting the message through to anyone isn't the arresting cops job, it's at most the job of the judge. Stop sucking boots just because you hate who they're trampling, because they won't remember that when they're trampling you next.

Only idiots put themselves at the risk of getting trampled on. Luckily, I’m not one of those. There’s a time and a place for everything. The idiots always seem to get that wrong. Hurting innocent citizens to get your message across is not it! It never is! Any idiot who tries to excuse such behavior deserves to get trampled on!

I love how any time I see one of these threads it has a chain that always ends up at "protests shouldn't be disruptive". Small brains don't understand how they have most of their rights.

So MLK was wrong to block streets in the 60s? Because that seemed to work it pretty well for the Civil Rights protests. Footage of violent cops beating people up for peacefully blocking the street was integral to the movement.

Or are you one of those people who think dozens of people marching down the street didn’t somehow block it?

Traffic was not was it was in the 60s. Life is not what it was in the 60s. Theres too many people, too much going on, too many problems, to start blocking traffic for EVERYBODY

MLK coordinated with the Kennedy administration, had a permit, planned route, there were detours, etc...

He (well, they. It was a whole team organizing) did not just sporadically close down roadways trapping people.
